CHAPTER 5: ANOTHER PIT-STOP

Max had pulled in to another roadside motel to stay the night at. He escorted Thibault by gunpoint to their room for the night. Max was sure that he evaded the authorities. There was an underlying reason why Max was doing this besides reverting his nephew back to his old ways. Max was sterile and couldn't have kids of his own. Plus he thought of Thibault as his successor of sorts. And he wanted to make him just like who he was; unapologetic, egotistic, mean, took no prisoners, and someone who would keep his woman in place. He wanted an heir, and if it was going to be his brother's kid, so be it!

What Max or Thibault didn't know was Max's ex-wife was following them the whole way there, from a distance, of course. She had parked at the motel just a few doors down from them. She was planning her own rescue mission to get Thibault away from her monster of an ex-husband. Once she saw what room they were in, she made the call to the authorities.

"Hello, 911? Get me the nearest police. I'd like to report a kidnapping." After holding for a minute she got the sheriff's department. "Yes, my name is Martha Watkins. Do you have an A.P.B. on Thibault Watkins and Maxwell Watkins? You do?! Well this is Max's ex-wife, and coincidentally, my ex-husband and nephew are at the same motel I'm at. Yes, it's the Golden Kangaroo Motel off of Highway 45. You know where it's at? Good! Officers are on route as we speak?! Great! I will meet up with them when they arrive! I'm staying in Room 104. Thibault and Max are in Room 108. I await their arrival! Thank you!" And she hung up the phone.

Pretty soon, police surrounded the motel. Many had their guns trained on Room 108. Inside, Max was watching TV and Thibault was once again handcuffed to the bed and asleep.

"Maxwell Watkins! This is the Carver County Sheriff's Department! Come out with your hands up!"
