A Broken Family

Chapter 2

Family

Grizabella sat on a bench outside as she watched her three kittens play. The oldest were twin toms, the oldest twin had a ginger coat, while his other twin had a silver coat, and their younger brother was a Maine Coon.

"Macavity, play nice with your brothers." Grizabella announced to her oldest son.

"Yes, mother." The ginger tom replied

"Oh, stop lying." The silver tomkit stated. "You never play fair."

"Munkustrap, be nice." The grey queen replied to the silver tomkit as she walked over to her kittens.

"Do we have to take Tugger?" Macavity complained, pointing to the Maine Coon.

"Yes, you have to." Griz replied.

"But he always slows us down!" The ginger kit complained.

"You never stop complaining." Munk sighed just under his breath.

"What did you say?" Macavity growled holding up his claws to his silver brother as the two brothers started fighting while Tugger hid behind his mother.

"That's enough you two!" Grizabella yelled separating the twin brothers. "Macavity go to your room." She ordered yelling at the ginger tomkit.

"But mom," Macavity whined.

"Now!" She yelled as the ginger tomkit stormed off to his room. "Are you alright Munk?"

"I'm fine." Munk replied holding a paw on the left side of his face.

The grey queen removed the silver tabby's paw from his face. Once the paw was away, she saw three scratches covering the left side of his face.

"Let's get this cleanup." Griz replied leading her son back to the house, as Tugger followed holding on to his mother's fur.

The house was a two-story lighthouse. The windows were all broken or cracked. The walls were damaged from a past fire and damaged furniture was the only thing left in the empty house. Downstairs in the living room was a couch, some tables, and a broken TV. In the den were books, some chairs, and a desk. The kitchen, dining room, as well as upstairs, were untouched by the fire. In those rooms, not much furniture was left. In the master bedroom upstairs, Grizabella's room was a king-size bed that she enjoyed laying on, a broken mirror was also in her room. There were two other bedrooms. One was a nursery, where Tugger slept, the other room was where Munk and Macavity slept on two twin size beds. There were two and a half bathrooms. The half bathroom was downstairs and the other two were upstairs.

The glamor cat led her son to the downstairs bathroom, where a first aid kit was. As she cleaned her son's injuries, Tugger sat in the doorway watching.

"Tugger, go play with your toys dear." Griz suggested.

"Okay," The small tomkit replied before running off to find his favorite toy his brothers mostly hid from him.

"Did you hide his toy again?" Griz asked looking through the kit.

"I think Mac hide it this time." Munk answered, watching his mother.

"You could be nicer to him; he is your younger brother." The grey queen explained, looking at her son.

"It was Mac's idea to hide it."

"Just because Macavity does it doesn't mean that you do it." She explained, placing the wet rag against her son's wounds.

"I know," Munk replied. "Besides I'm nicer to Tugger than Mac."

"I know." Grizabella sighed. "You think I don't know what goes on around here." She replied as she treated her son's wound. "There that should do it. Now go help Tugger find his toy." Griz ordered as her silver son went to help his brother.

"Hello, anyone home?" A female voice called from the front door.

The grey queen walked over to the door. "Jenny, hi." Griz greeted hugging her Gumbie friend. "How is everything in the junkyard?"

"Everything is fine." Jenny replied. "I have some stuff for you and the kittens."

"Thank you, but you don't have to do that."

"I know, but you're a mother of three toms and their father is never home."

"He comes home once in a while." Griz replied.

"Mommy! Mommy! Mommy!" Tugger yelled running to his mother.

"Not now dear, Mommy's talking." Grizabella replied as the kitten pouted. "Sorry about that," She sighed facing the Gumbie cat.

"Mommy!" The Maine Coon tomkit yelled louder.

"Sorry Jenny," The grey queen apologized before turning to her youngest son.

"It's alright." The other queen replied with a smile.

"What is it dear?" Griz asked, kneeling down to her son's level.

"Munk has my toy and he won't give it back." Tugger whined.

"Alright, I'll handle this dear." Grizabella replied, "Munkustrap get down here."

The silver tabby slowly walked down the stairs and approached his grey mother.

"Yes, mother." Munk said, looking up at her.

"Tugger says you have his toy." Griz stated as the youngest tomkit stood beside her.

"I don't have his toy." The silver tomkit replied.

"Yes, you do!" Tugger yelled still holding onto his mother's fur. "Give me back my toy!"

"I don't have your toy!" Munk shouted back looking at his younger brother.

"Yes, you do!"

"No, I don't!"

The grey queen rubbed her head and rolled her eyes. "That's enough!" Griz yelled as her sons looked up at her. "Munk, where is Tugger's toy?"

"I gave it to him, then he lost it and now he says I have it." The older tomkit explained.

"Because you do have it!" The youngest kit yelled

"I already told you I don't have your toy!" The oldest kit shouted.

"Munk, go help Tugger find his toy." The grey queen pleaded, feeling a migraine coming on.

"But I already know where it is." Munk stated, looking up at his mother.

"Then go show him where his toy is." Griz ordered.

"Fine," Munk sighed as he took Tugger upstairs to find it.

"Sorry about that Jenny." Griz apologized with a deep sigh as she turned to the Gumbie cat.

"It's alright." Jenny replied with a smile. "What happened to Munk?"

"What?" The grey queen asked, not sure what her friend was talking about.

"How did Munk get those scratches on his face?"

"Oh that, Mac and Munk fought earlier today."

"Where is Mac?" Jenny asked, looking around the house for the ginger tomkit.

"He is in his room."

"Do you mind if I talk to Munk?"

"No, go ahead."

"Thanks, I'll see if those scratches are becoming infected." The Gumbie cat explained as the grey queen nodded.

The Gumbie cat walked up the stairs and went to Tugger's room. She saw the silver tabby playing with his younger brother.

"Munkustrap," Jenny called standing in the doorway as the kitten looked up at her. "Can I talk with you?"

The silver tabby stood and walked out into the hallway, as the Maine Coon glared at the Gumbie cat for taking his brother away.

"It won't be long." She replied to Tugger as she closed his door. "Your mom told me you got in another fight with Macavity." Jenny stated taking the silver tabby to the bathroom.

"Yes." Munk sighed as he looked away from the Gumbie cat.

"This is the third fight this week, Munk."

"I know," Munk sighed lowering his head.

"How did this fight start?"

"He was complaining because we had to play with Tugger. Then I guess I got him mad and he scratched me." Munk explained as he followed the queen's lead.

The Gumbie cat led the kitten inside the bathroom and had him stand in front of her.

"Let me see the scratches." She replied, lifting the silver tabby's head up. "They're not that deep." Jenny stated examining the wounds. "Let's get it treated."

"Mom already cleaned it." Munk replied, watching as Jenny looked through her doctor bag.

"We'll just clean it again."

"Why?" Munk asked, not sure what the point was to clean a wound again

"Because since it wasn't bandaged bacteria could have entered the cuts making it infected."

"Why?"

"Because if your cuts get infected then you can get sick. Understand?" Jenny asked, looking down at the kitten as he nodded his head.

"What's that?" Munk asked as the Gumbie cat pulled a bottle out of her doctor's bag.

"This will help kill the bacteria." Jenny replied. "Now I'm just warning you this will sting alright." She explained pouring the liquid on a cloth as the silver tabby nodded.

"Ow!" The silver tom shouted turning away from the Gumbie cat after the damp cloth touched his wound.

"I'm sorry Munk, I know it hurts but it will help it heal." Jenny explained, looking at the silver tabby.

Once the Gumbie cat cleaned the silver tabby's wounds she placed a bandage over top.

"There you're done."

"I can go now?" Munk asked, looking up at the Gumbie cat.

"Yes, you can go now." She replied with a smile as the silver tabby went back to his younger brother's room.

"What in the world happened up here?" Grizabella asked at the top of the stairs. "I heard Munk yelling."

"It's alright I just used a liquid that would clean his wounds but it stings when it touches open wounds." Jenny explained.

"Where is Munk?" Griz asked, looking for her silver son.

"He went to play with Tugger." Jenny replied as the grey queen nodded her head.

"I have to talk to Macavity now." Griz stated walking up to the closed room.

The Gumbie cat headed to Tugger's room to watch the kittens. Once she reaches the door she heard yelling come from the other room. The Gumbie cat stared at the door until she heard Tugger's door open behind her.

"What's going on?" The silver tomkit asked standing in the doorway and looking up at the Gumbie cat.

"It's nothing Munk just stay in here with Tugger and keep this door close." Jenny explained as the silver tabby nodded and closed the door.

The Gumbie cat approached the other bedroom's door as she got closer to the door the yelling got louder until it hurt her ears. Once she approached the door, she slowly opened it. She saw the grey queen trying to hold her ginger son away from her, but he was strong and knocked her to the floor unconscious. The Gumbie cat ran in and grabbed the ginger tomkit but he shoved her away so hard that she fell to the floor. Macavity stood in front of her staring at her with his evil black eyes. He was about to attack Jenny when a silver flash ran past her and tackled Macavity to the floor. The Gumbie cat took this opportunity to run downstairs grab a muzzle and shackles from her bag and run back up to the stairs.

"Tugger get back in there!" Jenny yelled as Tugger shut the door.

The Gumbie cat ran into Macavity's room. The silver tabby had his ginger brother pinned to the floor. She quickly placed the shackles on Macavity's paws and placed the muzzle around his mouth.

"Alright, Munk you can let go of him now." Jenny stated.

The silver tabby slowly loosened his grip on his older brother but before Munk was completely off of Macavity, the ginger tomkit stuck out his back claws then with all his strength he kicked his silver brother right in the face throwing him across the room hitting against the wall. The silver tabby fell lifeless on the floor. At first, he didn't move, but a few seconds later he pushed himself up.

The Gumbie cat approached the silver tomkit. "Munk are you alright?"

The silver tabby held his paw up to his face, his head was covered in blood and some of the blood slowly dripped to the floor. Jenny looked back at Macavity. He struggled on the floor trying to get free. As Jenny watched the ginger tomkit struggle she noticed that his back paw was covered with Munk's blood.

"Jenny," The grey queen called slowly pushing herself up.

"It's alright Griz, Macavity is shackled and muzzled." The Gumbie cat replied looking at the grey queen.

"Where are Munk and Tugger?" Griz asked. The silver tabby was blocked from his mother's sight by the Gumbie cat.

"Tugger is fine, he is in his room, but" Jenny started, looking at the grey queen then back at the silver tabby. She was trying to get the bleeding to stop by applying pressure to the wounds.

"Munk is hurt, isn't he?"

"Macavity almost killed me when Munk came and was able to hold Macavity until I shackled and muzzled but he scratched Munk badly with his back paw." Jenny explained, finally getting the silver tabby's wounds to stop bleeding.

"Then don't worry about me." Griz replied standing. "Take care of Munk I'll handle Mac."

The Gumbie cat nodded her head and took the silver tabby to the bathroom where her doctor bag was.

"I guess I should thank you Munk," Jenny stated cleaning the blood off his face.

"It hurts,"

"Well, these scratches are deeper." Jenny explained cleaning the wounds and bandaging them. "You should be glad that Mac didn't take your face off. Are you alright?" She asked noticing that the silver tabby was swaying side to side.

"I just feel so tired." Munk replied, trying to keep from falling or passing out.

"Probably because you lost a lot of blood. Once you get some sleep you'll feel fine."

"Jenny," Grizabella called standing in the doorway, as the Gumbie cat turned around and faced the grey queen. "I have Mac locked up in the basement."

"Alright, I'm almost done." Jenny replied as the grey queen went to check on her youngest son.

"Here, Munk I'll help you to your room." The Gumbie cat stated helping the young tom up and to his room. The silver tabby slowly lay down on his bed. "Get some sleep Munk." Jenny replied, tucking the silver tomkit in then closing the door behind her as she walked into the hallway.

"Jenny, is Munk alright?" Grizabella asked.

"He's fine, just needs some sleep." Jenny replied as she walked down the stairs followed by the grey queen. "How is Tugger?"

"He is curious about what is going on, but he's fine."

"Here let's check your injuries."

As the Gumbie cat checked the grey queen's injuries around her stomach she stopped.

"What's wrong?" Grizabella asked looking at the Gumbie cat's confused face.

"Have you been gaining any weight lately?" Jenny asked, looking at her friend.

"Maybe, I think so, and my stomach started getting bigger." The grey queen explained. "Why? What's wrong?"

"Griz, I think you're pregnant."
