Shards

Haruhi knew she was doomed when she heard a high crack and the then the shattering of what had once been a very expensive looking vase. Then she had fallen, and the pieces pierced her flesh and entered her.

She flinched

Red seeped from her hand and she lifted one to her face to observe it.

Blood.

She knew she was damned when she looked up and all six boys were staring at her with various emotions, all of which seemed negative. The Ootori boy (she'd heard girls speak of him as he passed by), for example, looked a mix between exasperation and veiled worry.

The two redhead twins ('Hikaru and Kaoru Hitachiin' she idly thought 'they're in my class') had pained expressions. One leaned more towards pain and the other fear, the fearful one clung to his twin. Whether out of concern for himself or holding him back, she did not know.

The tall violet eyed blonde covered lower face with his mouth and stumbled before catching himself, eyes widening in shock.

The smallest person ('Why is there a child in the room?') simply cocked his head before looking about, likely gaging the reactions of the other people around him. The largest inhabitant of the room had no visible reaction besides a single abnormally fast blink.

After a pregnant pause the child stepped forward and offered her a hand in assistance "Hi there, I'm a dragon. My name is Haninozuka Mitsukuni, but you can call me Hunny!"

Haruhi looked at him surprised 'A dragon?'. Most people didn't even introduce themselves with species, for lack of necessity and fear of discrimination. She took his hand despite her shock and he easily pulled her up "That looks really bad, want me to walk you to the nurse...?"

She realized he was waiting for a name "Fujioka Haruhi, mermaid." He had done it, so she decided to introduce herself the same way.

"Alright Haru-chan! If you're hurting then I'll let you hold Usa-chan!" Just as the boy (How old was he anyways?) was going to lead her out of the room Ootori cleared his throat

"There is still the matter of the vase you just broke. We were planning to auction it off with a starting price of eight million yen. You're the scholarship student, which means you have almost no money to speak of. How do you intend to pay?"

Haruhi froze 'eight million?!'

"However," She noticed his gaze shift toward the mostly recovered blonde who's head seemed to be purposely directed away from her "as vice-president, I am not in power to make that decision. Our president will have to decided. Tamaki?"

"Kyoya, it doesn't matter."

"I disagree, eight million is a substantial amount, one that cannot simply be ig-" and she knew that she was in danger when Tamaki interrupted him.

"Kyoya, just get him out of here!" Tamaki's eyes flashed a dangerous red

A vampire.

Ootori cleared his throat and, to the Hitachiin twin's seeming disbelief, nodded "This matter will be settled at a later date." He closed the black book he held "But rest assured, it will be settled."

Haruhi knew it was true.

After all, they seemed to have a fair share of vampires, and vampires do not forget.

A/N; I made Haruhi a mermaid solely because she cannot sing and found it funny. Now that I've finished Never Alone I'm gonna do this (and maybe actually my other stuff). I also found Hunny being a dragon fitting. For future reference:

Haruhi- Mermaid
Hunny- Dragon
Mori- Witch
Tamaki-Vampire
Hikaru and Kaoru- Freed Impundulu (creatures Africa said to be witch's familiar Google it)
Kyoya- Vampire

I'll explore more about what this means in later chapters. For now there is the important issue of who should be paired with who. I will accept PMs and reviews on what you'd like. I'll also make a poll on my profile.
