"Hey Woozle! Come on, you gots ta get yous papes!" Jack called out and motioned for the younger girl to follow him. "I'm coming! Come on, Mousie." the auburn haired girl said as she tied the four year old newsie's shoes and carried her. Mousie mumbled something incoherent and allowed Woozle to carry her. "Heya Mousie." Jack smiled and gave the tiny girl a high five. "Yous ready for a great sale day?" He asked and she grinned and nodded. "Aight, ladies foist." Jack smiled and let Woozle get in line in front of him. "Thanks Jack." she smiled and set Mousie down, holding her hand. "No problemo sis." He smirked as they waited in line for their papes. "You think it's gonna be a good sale day?" Woozle asked. "I think so. Sun is out, skies are clear. It's gonna be a great day." Jack replied. "I hope so. I's gots ta buy some muffins for duh kids at duh refuge." She sighed. "Trust me, yous gonna get duh money." He reassured her.

"Well, well, well. What do we got here this fine morning?" A familiar voice spoke nearby as they moved up in the line. "Hey the coicus is in town again, eh Mousie?" Race said as he glanced down at Mousie who was behind him. "It ain't nice to talk to the kid like that." Morris smirked and squated in front of Mousie. "Right kid?" He asked with a smirk. "No. Yous mean." she mumbled and kicked Morris' shin. "Ow! Why you little brat!" He winced in pain and went to kick Mousie. Racetrack was first to step in front of her and take the hit for her. "Outta the way rat!" Morris spat. "Yous seriously gonna hurt a kid?!" Woozle snapped and moved Mousie behind her. "She's four! She can't defend herself, hit me instead you snot nosed brat!" She said boldly, willing to take a hit for Mousie. Morris raised his fist, ready to hit her when Oscar caught his hand. "Save it for later, Morris. She ain't worth it." He said. "You're right. But he is." Morris replied and punched Jack square in the jaw. "Jack!" Woozle panicked. A fight quickly broke out when Jack hit him back and soon enough the bulls were being called. "Get Mousie outta 'ere!" Jack yelled. "Not without you, big bruddah!" She exclaimed and jumped onto Morris' back, choking him as he beat on Jack. "Let me go!" Morris choked out. "Leave my bruddah alone den!" She spat and started kicking when Oscar grabbed her off of Morris. "Put me down!" She yelled at him and kicked him in his knee. He hissed in pain and dropped her, kicking her in her side repeatedly. She managed to get up on her knees and as he kicked her again, she rolled herself towards him, knocking him over. At this point, she achingly stood up and gave him a good kick in his stomach then she ran towards Mousie, who was crying and surrounded by a few bulls, she scooped her up in her arms and had her hold onto her neck so she could climb up a fire escape and escape the area.

"Hang in there Mousie. I's got ya." Woozle said. Mousie nodded and mumbled something. "Get back 'ere!" Oscar shouted as he got up. "Make me, pretty boy!" She called back and climbed faster to the top, running on the roof and trying to see where to go. "Woozle! Duh underground!" Race yelled from the next building. "Aight!" She replied and ran down the next fire escape, clutching Mousie and running down the street and into an alley a few blocks over.

"We safe?" Mousie muttered, "Yeah. I's think so." Woozle panted and sat on a crate to catch her breath. "Gimme a minute and den we can continue. Aight?" She asked and Mousie nodded, sitting by her. After a few minutes, she stood up, clutching her throbbing side. "You okay?" Mousie asked with tears in her eyes. "I's okay. Just gotta walk it off. Aight? Now let's go to duh underground." She said and Mousie climbed onto her back for a piggyback ride. "You good?" Woozle asked and fixed her cap. Mousie smiled and nodded, "Aight." She replied and walked with her down the alley and opened a back door to a building and walked in. It was a rundown building they referred to as 'The Underground'. Woozle's dad owns it and lets them use it for emergency purposes. It was poorly decorated but the girls always made sure there was food in the fridge so if anyone needed food, there was some to spare. There were old sofas and armchairs. A beat up stove and working fridge, even running water.

"Thank God ya made it!" Crutchie greeted them. "I barely made it out." he continued. Bruises were setting in on his face and a few other Newsies were there, including Woozle's close friends, Violet, Kid, and Snippy. "Come on Mousie, let's get ya somethin' ta eat." Violet said and took Mousie from Woozle. "Thanks Vi." Woozle said. Violet hummed in response and went to feed Mousie. "You okay Crutchie?" She asked and grabbed a first aid kit she had stashed away behind a sofa. "Y-yeah. I's fine." He replied with a cheerful smile. "Here, let's see that cut on your cheek." She said. "Okay." He replied, knowing better than to argue with her. She took out the antiseptic and cleaned the cut. "Who did this?" she asked in frustration. "Oscar." He replied. She sighed. "I's gonna soak 'im fer ya. Just ya wait." She informed him and shook her head. "No, he'll hurt ya." He replied with wide eyes. "No worries. I can take 'im." She smiled and he chuckled. "Aight, yous all good now." She smiled. "Thanks Wooz!" He grinned and went to talk to someone. As soon as Crutchie left, Kid and Snippy ran up and sat by her, "So, did ya see 'im?" Kid asked and wiggled her eyebrows knowingly. "Oh hush! But yes, I did see him." Woozle grinned. '"WooOoo!" Snippy cheered. "Hey quiet, I want the full story!" Kid smirked. "Aight, aight. Morris almost kicked Mousie and a fight broke out. I jumped onto Morris and Oscar got me off him. I kicked him and he dropped me...then kicked me...repeatedly." Woozle sighed and winced in pain from her side. "Oh yikes! I'll kill 'im!" Kid stood up angrily. "Woah wait! I got back at him! I got one good kick in to his stomach and left him there." Woozle smiled proudly. "Ain't romance wonderful?" Snippy said and brushed away a fake tear. "What romance? He hates me!" Woozle sighed. "Hey, that's how my parents show love. They whack each other." Snippy added. "Yeah but yous folks are married! I hardly know this guy." She frowned. "Yeah so? Same thing." Snippy replied and crossed her arms.

"Whatchu goils talkin' 'bout?" Jack asked as he snook up on them. "Oh nothin' Jack." Woozle smiled innocently. "Uh huh sure. What boy's got yous eye huh? I bet it's Crutchie. He's a good guy." He joked. "No, it ain't a 'Hattan newsie." Kid replied. "It aint?" He asked in disbelief. "Den who is it?" He crossed his arms, waiting for an answer. "Oh hoho you won't like this!" Snippy laughed. "Shut it!" Woozle elbowed her. "It's Spot Conlon." Kid quickly spoke up and Jack's eyes looked like they were going to pop out of his sockets. "Please tell me yous kiddin'?" He laughed nervously. "No. That's exactly who we was talkin' 'bout." Woozle said shyly. "I ain't believin' this. My own sistuh betrayin' me like this!" He said dramatically. "No sistuh of mine is gonna end up in Brooklyn's toif!" He frowned. "Well too bad. Now go, leave us alone!" Woozle shoved him away. "Aight, aight. I's leavin' you goils aloneā€¦.fer now." He said and walked away feeling hurt and betrayed.
