It was three days till Halloween and all through Big Green everyone was buzzing with excitement.

Autumn Moon, the newest member of Big Green, was decorating the First Squad meeting room with Mystique Sonia. The two had decorated the room with black and orange paper cutouts of various Halloween themed symbols (bats, black cats, witches, etc) while Lin Chun sat at the meeting table working on Jack-O-Lantern designs.

"So Autumn, are you excited for your first Big Green Halloween?" Sonia asked as she hung another paper bat on the wall.

"I guess," Autumn said. "I'm just going to miss spending it with my family in Ireland, we go every year, and it's always been a blast."

"What did you guys do that was so much fun?" the raven-haired girl asked.

Autumn sighed and looked up at the ceiling and smiled. "Well since Halloween has its origins in ancient Celtic traditions we would have a big bonfire to ward off evil spirits and the older kid would take the younger ones into town to trick or treat and afterward we would go into the nearby cemetery to see if we could catch a glimpse of the banshee that supposedly haunted it," She said. "And depending on how the week played out we would stick around for Guy Fawkes day."

"Wow, I take it you have a big family then?"

"My grandfather was one of ten kids and he and my grandmother had ten kids themselves, and most of them moved back to Ireland to help with the family farm." She said as she finished hanging the decorations. "I was going to spend All Hallows Eve this year with my dad's dad on the reservation because of the blue moon."

"What's so special about a blue moon?" Mighty Ray asked as he came in with a large bag of candy that first squad was going to give out at the annual Halloween party.

You see, every year the animal kingdoms would take turns hosting the Big Green Halloween party. There were games, costume contests, and plenty of sweet treats, much to Lin Chung's disgust.

"Mighty Ray, can you please leave the candy in your room?" Lin Chung asked, looking visibly ill just at the sight of all that sugar.

"Oh right, your thing with sugar." Mighty Ray said putting the candy in the hall.

Autumn looked confused. "What thing with sugar? Are you allergic?"

Lin Chung shook his head. "No. I just can't stand the smell or sight of candy."

"Why?"

"A few years ago there was a mishap with High Roller and we switched bodies. Not only did his room reek of old sugar but he ate so much while in my body I was sick for days." He said while suppressing a shudder. "Since then even the mention of sugar makes me sick."

Autumn nodded. "I understand."

"So what's so important about a blue moon again?" the shortest human among the four asked.

"Oh that," Autumn said sitting down. "You see on the night of a blue moon the veil between the world of the living and the dead is at its thinnest and spirits can cross over as they please. Papa needed me to help prepare for a ritual that keeps the bad spirits trapped in their world while allowing the good ones to cross over."

"Sounds creepy," Sonia said.

Autumn shrugged. "I guess, but we have to do it. If we don't we may have to deal with some unpleasant company. Luckily we won't have to worry about that."

Meanwhile deep in the woods of Hidden Kingdom the Soldiers of Darkness were digging in a graveyard near the town of Jiāngshī Xī, a town known for their history of dark magic and even necromancy.

"Come on!" The Commander of Darkness yelled as his soldiers dug into old the ancient graves that littered the area. "It has to be here!"

"I found something boss!"

The commander and his soldiers walked towards a mausoleum, overgrown with ivy and thorns. The door to the crypt was cracked from exposure to the elements and the roof was slowly caving in on itself. After ripping the door off its hinges the animal hating humans found a headless skeleton laying in a glass coffin. The skeleton wore a purple and black robe and on his hand was a black ring with a large yellow sapphire cut into the shape of a diamond.

"Who is that?" one of the soldiers asked.

"This is Hēi Mófǎ, one of the last Moon Soldiers to be executed by the royal court. His magic was unmatched. He was said to have mastered the dark art of necromancy, so to make sure he didn't rise from the dead the emperor cut his head off and hid it. Some say his spirit still wonders Hidden Kingdom, seeking out his lost head." The commander said as he picked up a large rock. "The ring on his finger is said to be enchanted."

The Commander of Darkness hit the glass coffin with the rock causing it to shatter. He then reached in and grabbed the ring off of the sorcerer's hand. The soldiers backed up as if they were expecting the skeleton to sit up and take the ring back.

But nothing happened.

"Now, let's get some revenge on Lin Chung and all of the animal-loving freaks of Big Green." Their leader said.

The Soldiers of Darkness followed their leader's lead, unaware that as soon as they left the headless skeleton sat up and began to follow them.

Sorry for the super long hiatus. Due to Covid-19 and school, I really haven't had the inspiration to write. I will be posting the last chapter of Moon Soldier soon and working on the new story soon.
