Blame game

Peterson Park, 3:45pm November 15th

"Sid, what are you doing here?" Woody snapped.

"You're supposed to be in jail." Lauren said, glaring at him.

"Oh please! That place is a joke. I snuck past those idiot guards and walked out. You'll probably get a call in a few minutes about that, Pride." As he said that, Woody's cell phone went off. He went to take it out of his pocket, but Sid stopped him. "No, no. Ignore it. We have some unfinished business to settle, the three of us. Let's start with you, Lauren. Shall we finish our conversation about how you kept me away from our dying daughter?"

"She didn't want to see you, Sid!" Lauren yelled.

"She didn't want to see me, or you didn't want me to see her?"

"She asked me not to let you in. Why would she want to see the man that had abused her mother and herself? She wanted nothing to do with you, Sid!"

"That is a lie!" Sid growled. He reached into his pocket and fired it in the air as a warning. People screamed. The kids over by the ice cream truck ran and hid. Woody saw Maddy run and hide behind a parked car. Sid pointed the gun at Lauren. Woody reached behind him and pulled out his own gun.

"Put down the gun, Sid! Nobody has to get hurt here!" Woody said, pointing it at him.

"Shut up, Pride. I'll deal with you in a second!" Sid turned to Lauren. "Olivia wanted to see me. I was her father, she loved me!"

"She didn't love you, she feared you. She told me that she never wanted to see you again."

"And you believed her?! She was a child, on her deathbed. She didn't know what she was saying!"

"It wasn't just my decision, Sidney! The judge wouldn't allow you to visit her either because you had to pick a fight with another inmate! You were so screwed up that you fucked up your last chance to see her."

"Shut up! You were so angry with me that you didn't want me anywhere near her. It's because of you that I didn't get to kiss my daughter goodbye! I could have several last visits with her if it wasn't for you and this asshole!"

"Woody was just doing his job!" Lauren cried.

"Just doing his job? You mean ruining my life! Like he has been doing every day since high school!" Sid yelled.

"What are you talking about, you bullied me all through high school and picked fights with me in the hallways!" Woody shouted, his gun still raised.

"Because you were such a goddamn pussy! Always sticking up for everyone like some goddamn hero! You constantly got me in trouble, including getting me expelled!"

"You planted a bomb under the bleachers in the gym!"

"And you just had to go and blab to the principal about it, getting me expelled. I lost my fucking wrestling scholarship because of you!"

"That wasn't my fault! You were troublesome from the beginning. You picked a fight with me everyday, got suspended twice, and finally expelled. Not to mention all the arrests, DUI's, and restraining orders made against you from several students. You need help, Sid. I can get you help if you'd let me."

"Oh, oh you want to help me now, do you? That is bullshit! I don't need help, nor do I want help from you. I hate you, Woody Pride! I hate everything about you, and I hate you for your part in this! You are another reason I didn't get to see my daughter before she died. Your testimony at the hearing sealed my fate! Every time you arrested me pushed me further and further away from Olivia. Lauren, the judge, and you are all to blame for me losing her!"

"You are playing the blame game here, Sid, but the blame is on you and your actions. There are people who can help you with that, I can help you with that. There doesn't need to be any violence here today, Sid. No one deserves to get hurt, and there doesn't need to be any more pain. You don't need that, nor does Lauren. Put the gun down, and I'll help you." Sid held the gun tight, staring into Woody's eyes.

"I can't be helped, Pride. I've already had my share of pain and suffering to last a lifetime. So has Lauren. I think it's time to end her suffering, don't you think? Yeah. Goodbye Lauren." He moved the gun in her direction.

"Sid, no!" Woody shouted. Two shots rang out. One bullet hit Lauren in the center of her head, and she fell to the ground in a heap. The other hit Sid in the arm. He screamed and turned on Woody and fired four times. One hit him in the shoulder, but the others hit him directly in the chest. Woody dropped to the ground on his side, his gun falling from his hands. Sid rushed forward and grabbed it. He went to shoot him again when he heard a small shout from across the park.

"Daddy!" Sid turned and Woody saw Maddy by the car, panic all over her face. Woody saw Sid's mouth turned into a wide, wicked smile as he stood up.

"Run Madeline! Run!" Woody yelled. Maddy turned and ran across the park, Sid following close behind. The girl was fast, but Sid was faster. He caught up to her and grabbed her.

"Let go of me! Daddy!" Maddy screamed.

"No! Let her go, Phillips! Let her...AH!" Woody screamed as pain hit him. He rolled onto his stomach and tried to get up. He saw Sid force his daughter into a car and drive away. "No, No! Madeline!" He moved to his side and pulled out his phone and dialed three numbers.

*Oh no, not Maddy! What will happen next? Stay tune!*
