Disclaimer: I don't own Darksiders

Pride was not without reason. Pride was a natural reaction to one's accomplishments. At what point pride became sin is hard to say. The other sins all seemed so simple compaired to her. Even Envy...

Fury shook her head as she entered a familiar building. This was no time to think of what could have been, and Fury knew from experience that letting herself think of her former watcher would only lead to such distractions. The Seven Deadly had been released once again by the Charred Council in an attempt to do something. What exactly their reasoning was could only be guessed, but now was not the time for that either.

The church had been rebuilt with obvious upgrades, the second floor serving as a balcony. The polished bell hung from the ceiling. The mirror floor showed no signs of hiding tunnels beneath. Yet somehow this all happened within days. This was surely Pride's doing.

Fury smirked as she activated her storm hollow. She had learned new tricks while protecting what remained of humanity. The Horseman levitated as a twister formed at her feet. The static she created was enough to make her shoes cling to the metal bell. Fury had learned to not laugh at the way the static tickled her feet all the way to the bones in her ankles, but she still lacked the self control to keep from smiling at the sensation.

She quietly made her way to the top of the bell and made herself comfortable. Sitting with one arm resting on her knee and the other hand loosely gripping the heavy chain, Fury switched to her force hollow. Gravity mercilessly yanked the bell, bringing part of the ceiling down with it.

Fury remained calm and quiet as she and the bell neared the floor. The stasis hollow loosened time's embrace on her. She ran up the falling chain, using it to distance herself from the shattering glass. It was more fragile than she expected.

Has Pride not been expecting me? Fury wondered while she used her storm hollow to lift her to the balcony. Did she intend for me to cause a ruckus? Did she want me to alert her to my presence?

She looked down at what remained of the floor. This hole was much bigger than the last one. It seemed Pride had gone so far rip the old floor out and put in a new one. That sin had always been the overachiever.

She may have been unreasonable, but she was not without reason. Whatever her reason was for making the foundation of such a grand building so weak, she would not be happy what just happened. Pride would be coming to welcome her soon enough.

Why was it taking so long?

"Aren't you going to going face me?" Fury wasted no time doing just that. Pride looked much like she did before, but her face was not quite what Fury remembered. It seemed strange that Pride would changed her face, but Fury reminded herself again that Pride was not without reason. But if that were the case, was the mask in her right hand for an unexpected purpose?

"You still have a mask?" Fury taunted "Are you sure you are not Envy, putting on another show?"

Pride smiled mischieviously. "She missed you." Fury snarled. That was all it took for Pride to know she was hitting the right buttons. "We could all tell. Why exactly is still a mystery. From the way she talked about you, you treated her even worse than I did."

Fury had often wondered about Envy's relationship with the other Sins. She had hoped that she was wrong again. Unfortunately, it seemed she was right about Pride at least. "What did you do to her?"

"Nothing extreme." Her response was too casual. "If fact, we got along considerably well. However, everyone knew she didn't deserve to bask in my glow. And yet, I kept her around. She wanted so badly be like me. Who could blame her?"

"So you let her mimic you? You let her stroke your ego, playing on her insecurity while she looked up to you?!" Envy had called her 'sister'. How could Pride do such a thing to her?

"What is Envy, if not a twisted blend of admiration and insecurity? She is destined to wallow in her own nature. There is nothing anyone can do to change her. Do you think I wouldn't try to make my only sister more worthy of my time?"

"Only sister?" Fury had wondered. Many had wondered. Pride was not above lying, but there didn't seem to be any reason to and this conversation seemed to be honest in every other way.

"Lust is a gender of its own." Pride rolled her eyes and gently shook her head.

"So it was just you and Envy?"

"Until you came along, yes." This was when Pride put her mask on. Fury was again questioning why she still had it. "From what she said, you were barely able to tolerate her." Fury could not hide the sting. Pride saw this opportunity. "I used to put make up on her. We played dress up all the time. What bonding moments did you have with her?"

"She was not my sister."

"And isn't that unfortunate?" Pride mocked "Whenever she spoke of you, I could almost sense pride."

Fury narrowed her eyes. She had faced enough egomaniacs to know that Pride was preparing some sort of 'I'm about to destroy you.' speech.

"I supposed that's partially where I sensed pride coming from when I accepted you into Aires. I've grown more powerful since then. What makes you think you can defeat me now?"

Fury put her hands on her hips and smiled smugly. "That's an easy question." she aswered without hesitation "I've done it before."

Pride laughed. Fury's smile faded. "You think you defeated me? You're still to proud to acknowledge what's going on around you." Fury narrowed her eyes again, not knowing why Pride sounded so right. "You couldn't defeat what lied within you. Even Envy could see that."

Fury looked back on that memory. It wasn't the first time she did. Every time she did, it just seemed stranger. "Why don't you tell me what you think happened?" She would decide for herself if Pride was telling the truth.

"I know what happened." Pride corrected "Envy had made the mistake of letting you live. As a faux watcher, she saw you in your weakest moments- sat by while you slept. She forfeited countless opportunities, despite every harsh word you used against her. And after all the time we shared, when she saw you couldn't win, what did she do?"

Fury looked back as best she could. She remembered Envy laughing, then taunting, then, "Your Council betrays you."

"She attacked you."

"She hit me in my very essence." Pride admitted "Insulting my face, having the audacity to claim that even she would not be jealous of me. Can you believe her? Such gull!"

The horseman was frozen in shock. All this time she thought she had defeated Pride. She knew Envy had struck the final blow, but she couldn't have imagined that the few words after it could have such an impact.

"You were ashamed." Fury saw a new way to defeat sin. She had to find some way to use this, fast.

Pride sensed something growing inside the horseman. This was what she had wanted. "I had no reason to be." Pride flew to the opening of the balcony, smiling behind her mask. "Envy was nothing special. Her words were more a surpirse than anything else. Why should her opinion matter to me? Especially when she is lying for your sake. You couldn't have defeated me on your own."

"You're right." Fury admitted "I was proud and I still am." Fury allowed herself one second to look back on her time with humanity and how much she had grown with them. "But just as I grew while I battled the other sins, I learned more about my limits while living for someone else." She drew her whip, ready to find a weak spot. "My pride is gone, and I will find a way to rid this world of you once and for all!"

"You don't even have way to contain me! Should you manage to destroy this form, I still return in a matter of-"

"That's where I come in!" A familiar voice caught their attention. Fury smiled at the hole in the ceiling. Envy had taken on another form. She was perhaps a tad shorter than her watcher form and kept the four eyes, although they were the same color as when she revealed herself as sin. A blue crystal hung from her neck and her long, tattered, black dress reminded Fury of the days they shared. The mask and hood were gone. There was nothing to hide her face and short, dark, oily hair. Her stilettos had been replaced by simple, scraped up flats. Her green skin was paler than before, with her four strong arms now morphed into six scrawny limbs, ending in bony wrists with unnaturally long, bony hands, one of which held a familiar talisman.

She jumped down, landing next to Fury. Fury knew that if Pride could turn Envy against her she wouldn't stand a chance, yet she wasn't worried. Instead she was happy to know that Envy was with her and seemingly unharmed. It was even better now that Envy had a new form. It was clearly a blend of her other two personas, but with Envy's last form being a blend of other people, this new embodiment was an improvement- a sign that Envy was growing as an individual, if only for a moment.

But there was still a very important question she needed to ask. "What are you doing here?"

"I figured you would probably want to fight us all over agin." Envy explained, handing her the talisman. "This should make it more satisfying."

"You fool!" Pride yelled at her "Don't you realize that you'll soon be trapped as well?"

"No." Fury objected "No, I don't think I will this time." She looked back at Envy "I've personally come to enjoy my watcher."

Envy took the chance and went back to her watcher form, the feet of her skirt-like structure bending backwards as she giggled in excitement and hugged Fury. The Horseman would let it slide for now.

"You know what she is!" Pride tried to reason with Fury, unable to understand why she would want Envy anywhere near her. Even so, a strange feeling started growing in the winged sin. Envy could sense it, but she did not believe what she sensed. "You know she has betrayed you before, and yet you would keep her around? For what purpose? For the thrill of endangering yourself? For the sake of angering your brothers?"

Fury smirked. Even with the mask, it was clear that Pride was fuming. She stepped forward and taunted her. "She's my sister now."
