Yu-Gi-Oh! re:ARC-V

Chapter 3

Synchro Warrior

"Sorry to leave you on such short notice, Martha," the raven apologized, standing in front of his D-Wheel. Yugo was positioned across from him, still visibly uncomfortable with the arrangement. He could handle this. So he thought, anyway.

"Nonsense. I might be getting older, but I can still hold down the fort here. I was doing just fine when you were still little, and I can do just fine now. I appreciate it, but you really do worry about this little old woman too much. You two do what you need to. The kids will be happy to see Rin again," the woman responded. "Oh, and one more thing. Be careful. If things get too dangerous, come back. Promise me that."

"Yeah. I guess you have a point," he admitted. "Just... don't push yourself, okay? I only worry so much because I care about you."

"I know. You're a good kid, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise," she smiled. "Well, be safe. I hope that when I see you again, you'll have Rin with you, and the three of you will come back unharmed. Oh, and Yugo... try not to give him a hard time. You're driven, but stubborn. Don't let your pride get in the way, okay?"

"... I won't," he replied, averting his gaze. In his years at the orphanage, he'd learned that arguing with his mother figure usually didn't end well. If he had to swallow his pride this time, he would. "Well, Clear Wing... do your thing," he muttered. In a flash of light, the two of them had disappeared.

The Battle Royale stage had been underway for nearly an hour by the time Yuya managed to find Yuto again. He never learned why Yuto was participating in this stage the previous day, and he intended to find out now.

"Why am I here?" Yuto asked. "It's not hard to figure out. Academia's going to be here soon, and I'm here to ensure that what happened to my dimension doesn't happen again. No one else is going to die if I can help it," he stated. "Your friend Sora should be here soon, too. If there's one thing I've learned about Fusion users, it's that they're like cockroaches. They're hard to get rid of, and when you stomp them down, they come back with a vengeance. He's probably going to want another shot at me, Shun, or both of us, meaning that I should find him as soon as possible."

"But why do you want me?"

"Because I know you don't believe me when I say that Sora is your enemy. If we stay together, you can hear it directly from him when he shows up."

"I..."

"I know it's hard to have to hear that someone you thought you could trust was a spy. Trust me, I know... better than anyone," he tried to reassure the other boy. Just then, three men in blue uniforms approached them, each with a different colored jewel in the center of their white masks. "It's begun," Yuto muttered, turning to face them.

Meanwhile, Yuto and his associate had arrived in the Ice Field. As soon as the raven had successfully managed to convince him that they, in fact, had not time traveled to either the distant past or some post-apocalyptic future, they were accosted by two others in the same uniforms as the ones that Yuto and Yuya had encountered, not that they knew about that, of course.

The older of the two was the first to speak up. "Who are you, and what do you want with us?" he asked, cautiously.

"You'll find out, once you lose," the duo's leader laughed.

"Is that a challenge? You'll regret underestimating us," he replied.

"'Challenge' isn't the word I'd use to describe what's about to happen. More like 'a one-sided slaughter.'" The officer smirked, igniting the blade on his Duel Disk, which resembled a sword.

Understanding what was about to happen, Yugo nodded towards the other boy, as both of them brought out their own Disks. Well, sort of. Yugo remained on his D-Wheel, as that was his preferred method of Dueling, whereas the other climbed out, Duel Disk on his arm. It had a white body that was slightly bulkier than most, and its blade, colored red, was shaped more like the models found in the Facility, which was due to it being a repurposed old model Disk as opposed to any of the newer builds available in Synchro.

"Ready, Yugo?" he asked, to which the other simply nodded.

Obelisk Force (Red) LP/Hand: 4000/5

Obelisk Force (Blue) LP/Hand: 4000/5

"I draw! I-"

"Signal Warrior's effect. During the Standby Phase, one Signal Counter is placed this card," the Synchro duelist interrupted. Having finished his explanation, he allowed his foe to continue his turn.

"-summon Ancient Gear Hunting Hound! Hunting Hound's effect! Since you control a monster, you take 600 points of damage! Hound Flame!"

"I activate Double Fusion, to Fusion Summon using monsters from my hand or field as materials twice in a row by paying 500 LP! First, I fuse Hunting Hound on my field with two other Hunting Hounds in my hand! Come forth, Triple Ancient Gear Hunting Hound! Then I fuse that with an Ancient Gear Soldier in my hand to Fusion Summon Ultimate Ancient Gear Hunting Hound! The effect of Ultimate Hunting Hound will have your LP!"

Send Fusion Material Monsters that are listed by a Fusion Monster Card from your hand or your side of the field to the Graveyard, and Special Summon the Fusion Monster from your Fusion Deck. (This Special Summon is treated as a Fusion Summon.)

Yugo LP: 4000 / 2 = 2000

? LP: 3400 / 2 = 1700

Obelisk Force (Red) LP: 4000 – 500 = 3500

"Battle! Ultimate Hunting Hound attacks Signal Warrior! Hunting Hound can attack three times per turn! You lose! Burst Hound Blaze!" the Obelisk Force Soldier declared, intent on finishing him off then. To his shock, however, the other's LP didn't drop to 0, and his monster was still on the field.

? LP: 1700 – 400 – 400 – 400 = 500

"What happened?!" he cried, angered. "You couldn't have activated any Spells or Traps during the attack due to Hunting Hound's effect!"

"Signal Warrior can't be destroyed while it has any Signal Counters, meaning that you couldn't deal enough damage to finish me. I warned you not to underestimate us."

"Tch. Turn end."

Turn 3: Yugo

? LP/Hand: 500/0

Yugo LP/Hand: 2000/5

Obelisk Force (Red) LP/Hand: 3500/1

During either player's turn, if a Level 5 or higher monster activates its effect on the field, or a monster effect is activated that targets a Level 5 or higher monster(s) on the field: You can target 1 of those monsters that activated its effect; negate its effects, and if you do, destroy it, then this card gains ATK equal to the ATK the destroyed monster had on the field until the end of this turn.

"I activate one of my partner's face-down cards! Miracle Locus! Now I'll battle! Clear Wing attacks Ultimate Hunting Hound! Whirlwind Hell Diving Slasher! Miracle Locus's effect! You draw a card, but Clear Wing gains 1000 ATK and can attack twice during this turn! And both of those attacks are headed your way!"

Miracle Locus

Select 1 face-up Attack Position monster you control. Your opponent draws 1 card. The selected monster gains 1000 ATK during the Damage Step and can attack twice this turn.

Obelisk Force (Red) LP: 3500 – 700 – 3500 = 0

Eliminated

"That's all for my turn."

Turn 4: Obelisk Force (Blue)

Yugo LP/Hand: 2000/5

Obelisk Force (Blue) LP/Hand: 4000/5

Signal Warrior: SC 2 3

"I draw! I summon Hunting Hound! If I can't win this duel, I'll at least take one of you with me! The one with lower LP takes 600 damage! This is the end for you!" he screamed.

"I activate another Trap that I had set! Reflect Barrier! The damage becomes 0, and you take it instead!"

Reflect Barrier

Trap

Activate only when an effect is activated that would inflict damage to your Life Points. That damage is applied to your opponent's Life Points, instead.

Obelisk Force (Blue) LP: 4000 – 600 = 3400

"Tch... I set a card and end my turn."

Turn 5: ?

Junk Barrage and Release Restraint Wave! First, Junk Barrage equips itself to Signal Warrior, then Release Restraint Wave destroys both it and a Spell or Trap my opponent controls! Clear Wing attacks Hunting Hound! Whirlwind Hell Diving Slasher! Then Signal Warrior attacks directly! This duel's over!" he called.

Obelisk Force (Blue) LP: 3400 – 1500 – 2400 = 0

Winner

? And Yugo

Midori Hibiki had had quite a bit on her mind recently. Exams were coming up soon, Serena was missing as of yesterday, and now Leo was planning to invade yet another dimension. Most would've viewed the actions of Academia in other dimensions and assumed the entire place was like that, whereas in reality, the war was completely unknown to most of the students, and even to much of the faculty. She herself had learned about it when a former student of hers stumbled across information related to it while looking into the archives to try and find as much data on her younger brother Koyo as he could.

Suddenly, she heard the curtains rustle behind her. Speak the name of the devil, and he shall appear, she thought. Turning around, she saw a man dressed in a large red overcoat, slightly similar in design to what the Red students she taught wore, white trimming giving it added detail. He wore plain black pants and sneakers, with one of the old model Academia Disks on his left arm, his face covered by a red hood attached to the coat.

"I was wondering when you'd show up," she said, expression unreadable. "I'm just surprised that you've been coming in the day far more often than before."

Ignoring her statement, he gestured toward the bottle she was holding. "I thought I asked you to stop drinking. It's not good for your health. You know why I'm here, though. How is she?" he asked.

"I thought I told youthat your big sister knows best," she retorted. "But if you have to know, she went missing. We think that she slipped out sometime yesterday. Given how close her departure was to Shiun'in's return, Leo thinks that she went to Standard to try to find the Xyz fugitives he reported there. Under most cases, I'd say you should just talk to her directly, but..."

"I see. I'll find her. I still have to come to you to check in on her, though. Leo has Barrett attached to her hip 24/7. I couldn't risk blowing my cover like that. It's a good thing Academia's forces don't know of our plan to undermine them. My predecessor probably wouldn't approve of the tactics I'm using, but..."

"Do you remember... what I asked you?"

"About what?"

"I asked if you would consider returning to Academia when all of this is over."

Shaking his head, he replied. "Some things can't go back to the way they were, no matter how much we want them to."

"I see. At least consider it, then. And whatever happens, be careful. You're pretty infamous around here now, so if word of your arrival gets out, the Professor won't stop until he has your head on a platter."

"I know. Either way, if Leo's so insistent on keeping her locked up here, I think I'll have her stay with me for a while, at least until I can figure out what he's planning. That, or I stay with her. Whichever comes first, really." And with that, he vanished just as quickly as he appeared.

'He's a strong duelist, but he's reckless. Watch over him, Koyo. I don't think I can deal with losing both of my little brothers,' she thought.

SilverByte's Review: Can't wait to see where you're heading with this!

Well, chapter 3's here, so that's one more to see where I'm heading with it!

Anti-Mage 29's Review: Yusei for Yugo, Jaden for Selena. So you're probably going to throw Yuma in there back in Xyz.

I can safely confirm the identity of one of those characters.

elqueen13's Review: This is really good so far! The guy with Yugo has GOT to be Yusei, which leads me to think Judai is the mysterious character referred to in Serena's parts. Keep up the good work!

Second verse, same as the first. The identity of one of those characters is now pretty much confirmed, even though I made sure not to say his name.
