With several articles of clothing on the ground and the bed unmade, Effy's room was untidy- but in a way that made the room look comfortable and lived in. Her desk was littered with various papers and textbooks for school and had a small succulent plant sitting in the very corner. String lights were lit and strung along the walls, giving the room a warm and cozy glow. Dozens of polaroids were crowded on a corkboard, containing images of her family, silly pictures of Sam, a variety of flowers, and of places her family traveled to. On the ceiling were thousands of glow-in-the-dark stars faintly glowing green.

In the middle of the room, Effy sat criss-cross on her fuzzy rug with a notebook in her lap and her laptop in front of her. She was chewing on the end of her pencil, trying to figure out a problem from her Calculus homework.

"So, this is all you?"

Effy glanced up at the familiar blonde boy examining her shelf, which was lined with some trophies she won at piano competitions and photos of her during her performances.

After that night they first met, it became normal to sneak Bee's holoform into her room after her parents and Sam were assumedly asleep. Well, it was more like Bee repeatedly insisting that he see and talk to Effy because he felt bored of sitting in the garage. Eventually, she gave in and let Bee hang out in her room for a couple of nights. Bee, as usual, would do most of the talking and talked more about his Cybertonian life. Sometimes he would ask Effy questions about her life and either received short answers or no reply at all. Bee even offered to help her with homework, as he could just download information from the internet.

Though only one of the two would talk, it was never boring for either of them. Effy would show Bee videos she found funny, movies that she cried to, songs that she listened to over and over, books that she has read, pictures of her dream college, videos of her piano performances; just endless tidbits of her life and who she was.

For someone who never talked, Bee thought Effy had a lot to say.

At her parents' confusion, this mainly contributed to Effy's visible sleep deprivation during breakfast the next morning. They just assumed she had exams coming up and was up late studying, which was only partially true.

Effy picked at the waffle on her plate with a fork, feeling more exhausted than hungry. Her parents were talking to each other over the table but the words just faded into the background. All she wanted right now is to take a long, well-deserved nap. She gazed out the kitchen window, her chin resting in her palm.

The sight of Sam riding Effy's bike and a yellow Camaro trailing not far behind him snapped her droopy eyelids wide open.

Gathering all the patience and calm she could muster, she stood up from the dining table and started towards the garage to retrieve Sam's bike.

"Honey, you haven't finished your- ...honey? Where are you-" Ron was cut off when Effy slammed the garage door.

Effy pedaled as fast as she could to catch up with Bee and Sam. She blew several strands of hair out of her face and gripped each bike handle. She laughed a little when she thought about how crazy Sam must have looked right now. And, why was Bee chasing Sam?!

She knew she had a lot of explaining to do, but how? That thought made her heart clench. Maybe she would leave all the explaining to Bee.

Effy sighed as she reached an intersection, looking around and realizing that she lost sight of Sam and Bee. But, just her luck, she found Mikaela on her motorcycle a couple of lanes over. She waved her arm frantically to catch her attention.

Mikaela's eyes locked with hers and her jaw dropped in surprise. "Effy! Get to that area over there! Sam went there, I don't know what's going on with him, but it sounds like he's in trouble!" She yelled over the traffic, pointing at an underpass a couple blocks down.

Receiving several cries of protest from pedestrians, Effy biked on the sidewalk towards the destination.

Once she arrived at the place under the overpass, she heard cries from Sam and a booming voice, shouting "Are you Ladiesman217?!" She got off her bike and ran to the source.

Effy almost fell over when she saw a massive, black robot practically towering over Sam. His eyes glowed a deep, sinister red, and plates of dark metal lined his body. Decepticon.

Even though she trembled in fear, she couldn't bear seeing her brother get hurt. She impulsively ran towards Sam, which didn't go unnoticed by the Decepticon.

"Effy! No!" Sam cried, but it was too late. The Decepticon smacked her away with a large metal hand, causing her to collide with a concrete pillar. She saw stars as her head slammed against the hard concrete, her vision gradually fading.

She was just barely conscious when she felt someone frantically pulling her into the backseat of a car, familiar golden blonde locks gracing her peripheral vision.

When she came to, she was lying in the back seat of Sam's car, or, um, Bee's car form. She quickly sat up in shock, causing her to groan from the sudden pain in her head.

"Whoa now, take it easy. I'm pretty sure you have a mild traumatic brain injury, or a concussion," Bee's holoform told her, readjusting the bandage on her head, which held an ice pack in place.

"Hey, sis! How ya feeling?" Sam was at the driver's seat, "driving" Bee.

"Here, take some Ibuprofen!" Mikaela chimed in from the passenger seat, rummaging through her purse. Effy obliged, dry-swallowing two of the little red pills. Bee watched over her in concern.

"What were you thinking, facing the Decepticon head-on? You're lucky you survived with minor injuries and a concussion!" Bee exclaimed, causing Effy to look away and click her tongue. "It's not your job to protect Sam from these guys, it's my job!" Bee continued.

"And look where that got us," Sam joked, meaning to make light of the situation. Bee suddenly felt guilty he hadn't arrived earlier.

Effy noticed that Bee had become quiet and gave his hand a gentle squeeze. She offered him a small smile, trying to convey that everything is okay.

Bee exhaled slowly through his nose, relaxing a bit. "We're going to meet the others soon," he told her. She looked at him questioningly.

"We're going to meet Optimus Prime."
