Ghosts. The living embodiment of the supernatural, but no one has ever seen one. But I have, I've seen the Gallows Wood ghost a vengeful spectre who almost imprisoned me for the rest of my life. I'm the only survivor of a group of five local teenagers who came face to face with the ghost. This is my story, read on if you can.

It was a shallow Friday night in October, my friends and I were driving home from a kooky and crazy Halloween party in Costessey, in between Norwich and Drayton. We were laughing and listening to 'A Sky Full of Stars' on BBC Radio 1, me and the girls were in the back of Cal's Nissan Ranger cracking open the bottles of Askari beer from the cooler, our stilettos scared all across the back and drunkly singing along to the radio while the guys were up front trying to navigate us through the musty and misty country lane. We were feeling a little fearless after the party, well drunk but still, so we decided to take the country roads back to Hainford. But as we approached the A140 and near the infamous 'Gallows Wood' the radio cut out.

We had all heard stories about Gallows Wood-basically in 1349 a convicted murderer and kidnapper was captured when she attempted to kill a group of passing knights, she was put in a cage her wrists tied against the it's bars and was left there to die. Within five years her corpse had rotted away but in her final living breath she swore vengeance on her captors and would remain in the forest until she could exact the same punishment on them and anyone else who should enter the forest-but we all had our own opinions on the tale; Maddie didn't believe there was any ghost and said it was just a hoax, Cal kinda believed the ghost existed but still needed proof, Alice half believed in it but wouldn't go anywhere near any wood ever again and Jake said there probably was no ghost but was always up for a spiritual adventure or scare. But I had my own opinion, I did believe the ghost existed and was desperate to get out of there when the car completely shut down.

We all climbed out of the Ranger and on to the country path. 'Oh great now we're stranded out here,' moaned Cal as he flopped onto the front of the car. 'I told you guys we should have left earlier, but no... you all wanted to stay and play spin the bottle,' he groaned as he took out his phone. 'AAAHHH!' Maddie screamed as she dropped her phone and what looked like her almost fainting. 'I don't have any Wi-Fi connection, oh god how will I be able to live' she cried as she lent into Jake's arms. 'I don't have any Wi-Fi either,' said Alice hesitantly as she put her phone back in her pocket 'Larkin what about you,' she asked 'Don't ask me my phones been dead since 8:30.' I said as I put on my fleece. 'Maybe we should go down that path,' said Jake as he pointed to the wood's entrance. 'No...n-o...no, no, no,' I spluttered in a frightened tone as I ducked behind Cal's Ranger. 'Oh come on Larkin,' moaned Maddie as she yanked me out from behind the car.

Two minutes later, we were all walking across a damp, squelchy mush of leaves and mud that was the forest path. My skin like ice as I mustered up the courage to take another step. All hope and motivation gone as I trailed behind the others. When suddenly I shot up holding onto a tree branch, through no control of my own for that matter, my black cat costume dangling from my body as I plummeted down like a stone into water. 'Ooh ouch,' I moaned as I rose up and continued walking. Then the air temperature dropped about 16 degrees and the next thing I know all of my friends have disappeared. 'MADDIE!, CAL!, ALICE!, JAKE! I screamed 'Where are you guys,' I cried as I curled up by a tree. 'Thou are alone, abandoned and forgotten,' remarked a creepy and sultry voice. It was the ghost of Gallows Wood. I ran out of the now burning forest, going at high speed I ran and ran and ran and ran until I finally found Cal's Ranger and jumped in the window started up the engine and drove away.

I never found out what happened to my friends that night, I assumed they had perished in the blaze even though it was five years ago. But this year I'm going back to the forest to find out what happened to them. So I know it sounds far-fetched but you can judge if I'm lying or not but I know what I saw and the ghost is still out there so !BEWARE!...
