Yu-Gi-Oh ! GX : Destiny's Dawn

CHAPTER 1

"Here we are, at last!" Said quite a boisterous voice, it belonged to a man of impressive stature. A blue, somewhat torn coat draped on his body, he wore blue jeans with brown leather pants. Resting above his head, was a captain's hat; Obviously, he had been going for the classical, sailor captain look and needless to say: he quite excelled at it.

The man spearheaded an impressive boat; not too big, not too small, it was large enough to accommodate a dozen people, excluding the staff, of course. He stood proudly, letting the fresh wind hit his bare chest, while his crew paced back and forth, they were to ensure that the sailing was smooth and without difficulties.

In the fair distance, an island could be seen closer and closer, it had forests, beaches, lakes- everything an island would have. There was even a massive mountain, or rather, a volcano. But these natural sights were not why the island was known for. The main attraction was a building that paled in size to the volcano it situated near; at its foot, as a matter of fact.

This building, far and wide known across the world as Duel Academy. Owned by none other than the second most legendary duelist and creator of Kaibacorp, Seto Kaiba himself, Duel Academy is the most successful school in the world of dueling. Many professional duelists hailed from it.

Eventually, the ship docked, the ones to walk out was the captain, followed by teenagers who were in their mid-teens. They all wore vests, with three different colors. Some were blue, more were yellow but most of them wore red. These vests indicated their level, the dorm where they would reside in for their years long stay at Duel Academy.

Those who wore blue, were Obelisk Blue students. The elite of the elite, the best of the best, most, if not outright all, of these kids were from prestigious families and backgrounds. Their dorm had to be obviously be luxurious and big enough to fit their prestige, and indeed it was; The Obelisk Blue dorm, far and away the most impressive building on the island. There were two of them, one for boys, the other for girls who strangely enough, all happened to be obelisk blues.

Below them, came the Ra Yellow students. The middle-ranked ones- Actually, some of them possessed dueling skills on par with Obelisk Blue students, but lacked the connections they did. Their dormitory was modest, but nowhere near as grandiose as those of the obelisk blue.

Then, at the bottom of the barrel, we see the Slifer Red. Known as slackers to the rest of the academy, these students are those who barely got accepted into the academy. Lazy, unambitious and pathetic are the most used words when talking about the Slifer Red students. Yet, if one searches thoroughly, they would no doubt find hidden greatness in some of these so called "slackers."

One of the Slifer Reds, a boy, he wasn't outstanding appearance wise; In fact, he looked rather plain, the only thing that set him apart from the others was him wearing a cap, same color as his coat. He looked up to see the academy, and gulped.

(Duel academy…How long have I wanted to enter it? How much have I wished to be part of it? And now here I am…) The young boy thought to himself, still staring at it, before he sighed. (Now all I wish is to have a little more confidence…I nearly flunked the entry exam! It's not gonna be easy, is it?...gulp.) He lamented, his sight slightly fading from his sight.

"Now listen here, me mateys," The captain said, whose name was William Lakeman, but you wouldn't want to get on his bad side, the others preferred to call him "Captain" Lakeman. "Tis here, Duel Academy, galleon t' th' meanest sharks of the ocean. Ye may know them as 'professional duelists', I don't know them fancy words." He muttered to himself that very last part before he glared at the students once more. 'tis where we part ways, scallywags," He spoke, shedding a few tears that were most likely fake, before he looked stern.

"..But I'll be keepin an eye on ye around. 'n if I see none o' ye be lootin' thin's seriously…Ye bet yer arse ye will be sleepin' wit' th' fishes tonight!" Said Lakeman, raising a hook and grinning.

(Is he supposed to be a pirate or a sailor?! Just tell us, dude!) The caped boy thought to himself, exasperated. Unfortunately for him, Lakeman had caught him like a fish with his not actually existing speargun. "Ye scallywag!" He shouted at the boy, pointing his hook towards him. The slifer red recoiled as a result, flinching and looked panicked.

"Y-Yes, Captain?!" The boy asked, saluting. Captain Lakemen simply stared at him, or more accurately, glared, the boy felt like this was the end of the world.

"What be the name of this sea hound I be natterin' wit now?" He asked, with a dangerous tone, he felt like a bomb ready to detonate at any time.

"M-My name, sir? Uhm, It's Konrad Amirian…Sir. Konrad with a K, not a C, by the way-" The captain's eyes widened at his name, as if he had knew of it somewhere.

"Yarr, I do nah care anymore." Interrupted the captain poor Konrad. However, he then sighed, "I be goin' t' give ye an advice, open yer ears," Captain Lakeman said, looking at Konrad dead in the eyes. "If Ye wants t' make it out o' here…Then fight. Fight like your life depended on it. Be the sailor that fends off the tides of the harsh sea, and you'll make it to the top, kid."

"Captain Lakeman..?" Konrad was confused at his sudden change of demeanor, it was as if the captain was truly being himself, perhaps it was exactly that. "Right, I won't let you down, Sir- Erm, Captain!" Said Konrad with enthusiasm, standing proud and saluting.

"Good going, Tar." Lakeman grinned, giving his sign of approval, "Same goes for all of ye, me hearties! GIVE 'M HELL!" Raising his hook, he had become a fanfavorite as the crowd cheered on.

(Here was formed the first pirate crew of Duel Academy. I can say I am proud to be part of history.) Konrad joked to himself, yet he couldn't help but grin silly at this situation.

This didn't last very long, sadly; The students heard the most over the top throat clearing ever. "AHEM!" The source of that noise, was a very tall and thin man. With a blonde ponytail, wearing a blue vest coupled with a purple lipstick, he was one of the academy's teachers; Vellian Crowler.

"I trust you've had enough fun with our new pupils, Captain Lakeman?" Crowler asked, not looking too pleased with this situation. "A-Argh, Dr. Crowler, I can explain-" The captain found himself at a loss of words and profusely trying to explain himself, but the teacher had no patience in store for him as he shot him down quickly.

"I don't want to hear it, You are late; Ten minutes late, as a matter of fact! You will write a report in which you will express your incompetence and apologize to Chancellor Shepard for your blunder. And you all, follow me. We have paperwork to go through before class, and you all will help, do I make myself clear?"

"Y-Yes, SIR!" The pupils spoke, as frightened of Vellian Crowler as the good captain is, and for good reason. Lakeman grumbled to himself as he stormed into his ship exactly as a petulant child would.

"Oh boy." Konrad muttered to himself, this was already one tough day and it had just been the very start.

The new batch of students, having followed Crowler, were inside a massive room, there was an arena in the center surrounded by many seats to observe the duel; This was where important events were held. With important events only being noteworthy duels. It was also where a pro would duel if they had business at the academy.

Today, however, there was no duel, it was only to finalize the registrations. Crowler turned to the students, crossed his arms and glared at them. "Stay here, and don't do anything stupid. Whoever hears his or her name, please kindly walk over to that table, thanks." Vellian then pointed at a table, sitting there was a bald man with a goatee and a red coat, Chancellor Shephard was sitting.

"Dr. Crowler, how's Captain Lakeman doing?" The chancellor asked with a smile on his face. "Good for a slacker, I suppose! He kept me waiting for ten minutes, ten whole minutes!" Crowler complained, having walked over to the chancellor, but then he grinned, a devilish grin. "I told him to write me an apology in the form of a report, serves him right!"

The chancellor giggled, all in good spirits of course, "Now, now, Vellian," He said, wiping out a tear from his eye, "No need to be so harsh on him. He's there when we need him, not many are willing to go from Domino city to Duel Academy by boat. I bet you would sink halfway into the trip."

"Hmph! I am a dueling professor, not a pirate wanna-be." Vellian was quite offended by what Shephard said. "Anywho, let's get this over with, I have a class to teach later. I'll do the calling."

With that, every student would be called one by one, they had to fill in a paper and once they were done, they left the area to head into class.

Crowler looked at the papers and noticed something wrong. "Chancellor, excuse me if I'm wrong…But there's a spot left for only one student." He told him.

"That looks about right," The chancellor said, "What's the issue?"

"Well, we still have two students left," Crowler pointed, at the remaining pupils. There was Konrad, and another student, a ra yellow one. He had brown hair that looked like a spike going forwards. "…If you ask me, we're better off taking the Ra Yellow one and leave the Slifer Red. The less slackers there are, the better it is!"

"I hope you didn't forget that a slifer red defeated you, Dr. Crowler." The chancellor spoke, looking at Konrad and the other young man.

"Ack, he was just lucky, is all!" Crowler flinched, "So what are we going to do, then?"

"Easy. Let's have them duel." Sheppard spoke, looking forward to this. "The winner will stay in the academy. As for the loser, We'll simply wish him better luck for next year."

"What's the hold up?" Konrad asked, witnessing the chancellor and the professor talking to each other.

"Beats me." The Ra Yellow student said, leaning against a wall and crossing his arms. "What's clear though, this is a waste of time. Everyone else screwed off, now I'm stuck here with you." He looked at Konrad as if he were some kind of criminal.

"You make it sound like a terrible thing. Am I really that bad of a presence?" Konrad pouted, he didn't like this guy's attitude.

"You see, it's not really your fault. It's something that comes with being a Slifer Red, no one wants to be around them. You feel dumber and lazier by the second."

"H-Hey! Watch it!"

"If you two are done bickering," Crowler said, he had suddenly appeared next to them. In truth, the two had been so absorbed in this brief argument that they failed to notice him. "The chancellor is telling you to get into the ring."

"What for?" Konrad asked. The young man, his name is Hiroto, looked at Crowler and tried to figure out what he meant. "Wait, no, you want me to duel this imbecile?!" The ra yellow was stumped.

"Oh trust me, I don't see the need for it. There's only one spot reserved for a student and it were up to me, I would've chosen you. Sheppard thinks otherwise." Crowler said.

"Hm. Fine," Hiroto replied, slowly smirking. "The chancellor wants to witness my dueling skills, if only there was a suitable opponent. I accept this." Closing his eyes, he was sure of his victory before the duel even began.

(Why you arrogant little…) Konrad thought, grounding his teeth. Enough disrespect, he was going to school this kid.

The two would get into the ring. Standing in between them, was Chancellor Sheppard who looked at the two of them. "May the best duelist win!" He said, swinging his arm down signaling the start of the duel before quickly getting out of the arena.

"This will be over before anyone knows it. I feel generous so, you can go first, it will all be the same." Hiroto stated, activating his duel disk. "We'll see about that!" Cried out Konrad as he too activated his duel disk.

"DUEL!" They both shouted, each duelist started with 4000 LP.

"I draw!" Konrad said, drawing a card from his deck. He would look at his hands. Not too shabby, he thought.

"First, I'll summon Aqua Madoor, in defense mode!" Konrad shouted as he summoned what looked like to be a figure with a white mask, red eyes and blue hair wearing a green robe. It was kneeling and doing a cross-arm lock. (ATK/ 1200 | DEF/ 2000).

"Next, I'll throw down two face downs and end my turn." Konrad continued as behind Aqua Madoor, two set down cards appeared.

"Is that all? Not too shabby for a loser, I guess. My turn!" Hiroto said, putting his index and middle finger on his deck, ready to draw.

"I draw a card!" And that he did. He took a good look at his hand and smirked. "For my move, I activate the spell card, Infinite Cards!" Hiroto said, as in front of him his spell card appeared, on it was drawn a pair of hands with cards above it. "In case you have no idea what it does, it allows me to have more than six cards in my hands without discarding them whenever my turn ends."

"Big deal, you can hold as many cards as you want," Konrad stated, narrowing his eyes. "Have fun trying to hold ten cards at once."

"Hah! I'll have even more fun crushing you!" Hiroto said, "Next, I summon Muka Muka, in attack mode!"

A monster, that looked like a hybrid between a fruitfly and a rock with smokes coming out of many pores in its back appeared. (ATK/ 600 | DEF/ 300)

"Muka Muka's effect activates. You see, for every card in my hand, He gets three hundred attack and defense points. Since I have four cards in my hand, he wins a total of twelve hundred points, making him have eighteen hundred attack points, and fifteen hundred defense points!" Hiroto explained as Muka Muka was surrounded in a purple aura and grew larger. (ATK/ 1800 | DEF/ 1500)

"That's a pretty strong monster, but he's not strong enough to destroy my Aqua Madoor. You should've played him first, attack and destroy my monster, then activate your spell!" Konrad spoke.

"I know what I'm doing, idiot. Don't try to teach me," Hiroto growled at him. "Jeez, I was just trying to help." Konrad replied.

"Keep your help to yourself. Anyways, I'll place a card facedown." Hiroto said. "And I don't need to remind you, but since you are stupid, I might as well. Muka Muka's effect activates, since there's one less card in my hand, he loses three hundred points. I end my turn." Muka Muka would shrink, signaling his loss of power. (ATK/ 1500 | DEF/ 1200)

(His monster may have gotten weaker…but it's still stronger than the monsters I have in my hand. And Muka Muka grows stronger the more cards he has in his hand…I have to destroy it quickly!) Konrad thought to himself, before looking at his deck.

"My turn, I draw!" Konrad drew a card. The card he drew brought a smile to his face. "Ha! With this, your Muka Muka will turn into debris! I summon Star Boy, in attack mode!" Konrad shouted, a red starfish, possessing a single eye like a cyclops, teeth like a shark and colorful tentacles appeared next to Aqua Madoor. (ATK/ 550 | DEF/ 500)

"With Star Boy face up in the field, all FIRE monsters have their attacks decreased by four hundred points. Not that it matters, Muka Muka is an EARTH attribute monster. But that's not the fun part!" Konrad said, clenching his hand into a fist and smiled.

"The fun part is, as long as he's around, any WATER monster on my side of the field have their attacks increased by five hundred points! That includes Star Boy himself, making his attack a thousand and fifty…And Aqua Madoor, boosting his attack to SEVENTEEN HUNDRED POINTS!" Konrad threw his hand to the side as his monsters became more powerful.

-Star Boy (ATK/ 1050 | DEF/ 500)

-Aqua Madoor (ATK/ 1700 | DEF/ 2000)

"Now that my Aqua Madoor is stronger than your Muka Muka, I switch him to attack mode!" Konrad said as Aqua Madoor would stand up. "Aqua Madoor, get rid of that annoying fly! LIQUID WALL!"

Aqua Madoor obliged as it cupped its hands together before generating a large wall of water that headed straight for Muka Muka.

"Haha…" Hiroto chuckled to himself. "Uh-oh." Konrad went, knowing this was dangerous.

"You just couldn't help it, could you…? You just activated my trap card!" Hiroto said as his face down card revealed. "Jar of Greed!" Hiroto shouted.

"J-Jar of greed?!" Konrad said in shock. "Yes, Jar of Greed. It allows me to draw a card from my deck," Hiroto then drew one more card. "And you know what that means, Muka Muka's attack points goes up by three hundred points, he is now stronger than your Aqua Madoor! Go, destroy him!

Muka Muka would grow to its previous size as it got stronger. (ATK/ 1800 | DEF/ 1500). The monster would fly towards the water wall and shatter it, before it went straight at Aqua Madoor and destroyed by using its front legs, bisecting its opponent.

"ARGH!" Konrad went, receiving battle damage. (4000 LP - 3900 LP)

"As I expected, Slifer Reds truly are incompetent. To attack, ignoring completely his opponent's intent." Crowler smiled. "Hiroto gave him the bait and he took it. Chancellor, do you still think a duel is needed? It's obvious the Ra Yellow student is going to win."

"Even the greatest of duelists make careless mistakes, Vellian." Sheppard stated, focusing on the duel, "And besides, it's still too early, the duel has just started. There is a chance that Konrad can still win."

"Oh well, I guess you'll have to see it by your own eyes." Crowler smiled, dismissing what the chancellor spoke.

"Grr…I end my turn." Konrad said, annoyed. "In that case… It's my turn, draw!" Hiroto went, drawing a card. Muka Muka's effect activated, the monster grew bigger. (ATK/ 2100 | DEF/ 1800)

"For my next move, I will summon a new monster! Jinzo 7, in attack mode!" With that, a new monster appeared next to Muka Muka, it was a cyborg and on its chest was the letter 07 engraved on it. (ATK/ 500 | DEF/ 400). Muka Muka's points would decrease as well. (ATK/ 1800 | DEF/ 1500)

"Then, I will use an equip spell! Axe of Despair, and use it on Jinzo #7!" Hiroto said, as he played it. "I don't like that name." Konrad said.

"Yes, you shouldn't considering it adds a thousand attack points to any monster that I choose! Since I'll use it on Jinzo 7, he will have Fifteen hundred attack points!" An axe would appear in Jinzo 7's hand, it was the axe of despair. A malevolent aura came from the weapon and enshrouded Jinro 7 with it (ATK/ 1500 | DEF/ 400). "It goes without saying, Muka Muka's attack and defense points go down, but they're still enough to deal with your lame monster."

-Muka Muka (ATK/ 1500 | DEF/ 1200).

"This isn't good! Both monsters can destroy my Star Boy!" Konrad said, gulping.

"Muka Muka, attack!" Hiroto said, as Muka Muka went full speed at Star Boy. "Not so fast, I activate my trap card! Negate Attack!" Konrad shouted, revealing one of the cards he set up on his first turn. A burst of wind emanated from it, pushing back Muka Muka to its original position. "Your battle phase comes to an end, and no harm will come to me!"

"Whatever, you won't stop the inevitable." Hiroto scoffed. "I end my turn."

"Tsk, don't be so sure of yourself!" Konrad said, drawing a card. "Finally! Here goes!" Konrad stated as there was a fiery determination in his eyes. "I summon the Giant Red Sea Snake, in attack mode!" Konrad said and soon enough, a monster, true to its name, it was a snake, big and red appeared, it boasted impressive attack points (ATK/ 1800 | DEF/ 800).

"And don't forget, as long as Star Boy is around, my WATER monsters get stronger! Giant Red Seasnake has eighteen hundred attack points…Now it has twenty three hundred!" Konrad exclaimed. (ATK/ 2300 | DEF/ 800)

Hiroto narrowed his eyes. "Giant Red Seasnake, finish what Aqua Madoor started! Destroy Muka Muka!"

The giant red snake slithered its way towards Muka Muka, wrapped itself around it as the rock monster groaned in pain before getting destroyed, Hiroto of course received battle damage. (4000 LP - 3200 LP)

"Your Muka Muka is no more! Next turn, it'll be Jinzo 7." Konrad said with a smile. "Now then, I switch Star Boy to defense mode and end my turn." He said, with Star Boy covering itself with its tentacle for protection.

"Hmph. Don't think you've won," Hiroto said, drawing a card. "I'm going to enter the battle phase now, if you don't mind."

"Sure, but even if you destroy Star Boy, My Giant Red Seasnake will still be stronger." Konrad informed him. But Hiroto was well aware of that fact.

"Who said I was going to destroy your lame star boy?" Hiroto asked. "Huh? What are you going to do then?" Konrad questioned.

"Simple! I activate Jinzo 7's special ability, you see, he can attack my opponent directly!"

"What, no way!"

Hiroto extended his arm, "Go! Attack him!" He ordered his monster as Jinzo 7 leapt high up in the air and landed in front of Konrad, before swinging the axe of despair for his chest. "Urgh!" Konrad went, receiving the damage and kneeling before slowly getting up. (3900 LP - 2400 LP)

"Then, I'll throw down a face-down and end my turn." Hiroto said, a facedown card appearing.

"Not bad, I can't say I expected that…But I told you Jinzo 7's turn was coming! I draw!" Konrad said. "Then, I'll summon a new monster! Mother Grizzly, in attack point!"

A blue grizzly bear appeared, roaring loudly. (ATK/ 1400 | DEF/ 1200). Since Mother Grizzly was a WATER monster like the others, it received a boost from Star Boy's effect. (ATK/ 1900 | DEF/ 1200)

"Alright, I switch Star Boy to attack mode! And I'll enter battle!" Konrad said, "Mother Grizzly, attack Jinzo 7-"

"Have you learned nothing from the previous turn?! How stupid can you be?!" Hiroto said, "I activate another trap card, this time, Gravity Bind!"

"Oh no, not that card!" Konrad said, having seen it before. "Then I suppose you know what it is, but I'll explain it anyways. You see, as long as this card is on the field, Level 4 or higher monsters cannot attack. So Mother Grizzly and Giant Red Seasnake? They won't be doing anything anymore. Only your Star Boy can attack. I invite you to try and destroy Jinzo 7 with him." Hiroto explained, a smug smile glued on his face.

"No thanks, I'll pass." Konrad grit his teeth. "I'll end my turn."

"Thought so. My turn." Hiroto said, drawing a card. "Well, if you thought Jinzo 7 was trouble enough, you're not gonna like this! For I summon Sangan, in attack mode!" He said, summoning a three eyed small demon. (ATK/ 1000 | DEF/ 600)

"What's this fella going to do?" Konrad asked, confused. "You'll see…I activate Block Attack! With this spell card, I can change one of your monsters that is in attack position to defense! And I choose your star boy!"

"Grr..Alright, Star Boy, switch to defense position." Konrad said and with that, Star Boy was once again in defense position. "Now then, I'll start! Sangan, destroy Star Boy!"

Sangan shrieked as it leapt towards Star Boy, using its claws it destroyed it. Since Star Boy was no longer on the field, Mother Grizzly's (ATK/ 1400 | DEF/ 1200) and Giant Red Seasnake's (ATK/ 1800 | DEF/ 800) attack points returned to normal.

"Don't forget about Jinzo 7! I use his ability to attack you directly!" Hiroto said, with Jinzo 7 once again striking Konrad with his axe. The poor boy could only take so much as his LP dropped below 1000. (2400 LP - 900 LP)

"With that, I'll set this card face down. Your move..It will be the last." Hiroto said, smiling as the duel was entirely in his favor.

"Well this was a waste of time, I knew a slifer red could never beat a ra yellow." Crowler scoffed. Sheppard was quiet, still focusing on the duel.

(D-Darn it…Am I going to lose?) Konrad thought, breathing heavily and looking at Hiroto straight in the eyes. (After all what I went through…All the sacrifices I made, I can't fail here! There's only one card that can get me out of this pinch…but can I draw it? I'm betting everything on this one single card!)

Author's Notes

Well, here it is, my first ever fanfiction on this site. Quite frankly, It's been hard to write this chapter, but I like to believe that the first chapter is always the hardest one. It is difficult to start a story. I hope you all enjoyed this first chapter, I don't know when the second one will drop because I'm a very spontaneous person. But when it's ready, I'll drop it, no problem. I am looking forward to continuing this fanfic the most I can and I wish that you enjoy the ride along. Until the next chapter, folks!
