I just love torturing Fargo! I dont own Eureka or any of its characters. Rated K. Whump. Angst. Hurt/comfort. Time line: Season 2

It was a storm like Eureka had never seen. One minute it was quiet, the next minute water poured down from the heavens like a waterfall. Fargo walked down the dark and deserted road hoping for a savior or at least a street light. Nothing.

Earlier that night: "Well im gonna walk home, Tabithas still in the shop." Fargo told the group at Cafe DiƩm. "I dont know Fargo isnt your house like 10 miles across town? And I think its supposed to rain tonight. Maybe one of us could give you a lift." Allison said with her maternal instincts kicking in. "Nah its alright, I dont mind the walk. And its only sprinkling!" He said stepping into the chilly outdoors.

Later that night: Fargo could barely see 3 feet in front of him with the heavy rainfall. He tripped over a fallen branch a mile back, scraping his face and side, and losing his glasses. The cuts across his cheek burned against the chilling raindrops, and Fargo knew his house was still quite a ways away. He decided to just keep walking down the road. He shivered under only a t-shirt and thin jacket with no hood. He wished so badly to be home in his warm bed with a cup if cocoa or tea. Lost in thought Fargo didnt notice the huge mud puddle as he slipped and fell on his back. Shocked at first Fargo knew he should get up and walk home as fast as possible. But he just lied there for a minute, feeling hopeless and all alone. Getting up was the easy part, the hard part was forcing himself to carry on and keep trying. A sharp pain shot through his side that he chose to try his best to ignore. He began to feel weary, much more than he already was. He stumbled a couple times but persisted through the rough rain and wind going against him. He thought he was dreaming when he saw headlights coming up behind him. Allison pulled up next to who she did not know was Fargo at first. " ?" Fargo said hoursley. "Fargo? Are you ok? Get in." "I got to walking about 6 or 7 miles down the road when the weather picked up.". Allison noticed how flushed Fargo had looked and saw the shivers he tried to hide. "Oh my gosh Fargo what happened to your face?". She asked with a worried tone, "Oh I tripped on a fallen branch. I didnt see it. Thats how I lost my glasses.". "Well you dont look so good, im taking you back to G.D.". "No its ok im really alright, I just wanna go home.". "Well im sorry but Fargo you should have those looked at and get warmed up." He decided not to argue, she was his boss after all. Plus he was feeling to exhausted to persist any further. 15 minutes down the road Allison noticed Fargo had drifted off with his head leaned against the car window. She instinctively put her hand up to his forehead, it radiated immense heat. She began to get worried. Fargo shivered in his seat and Allison didnt like the way his breathing had sounded. It was slow and uneven. His pulse was thready which was a really bad sign. She feared the worst but was afraid to drive any faster because of the rain. She pulled out her pda before taking a worried glance toward Fargo. "Carter, I need a medical team ready at the front of global. I have Fargo and hes not doing well. I'll explain more when I get there. Thanks.". About 2 minutes away from G.D Fargo shuffled a little in his seat. As she looked over to check on him, Fargo cracked open his eyes. He looked blankly ahead with a feverish glaze over his eyes. "Fargo?". The only response given was a pitiful quiet moan of pain from Fargos lips. Finally Allison arrived in front of G.D. She jumped out meeting Carter and Stark as they loaded Fargo on the guerney assesing his vitals. Both Carter and Stark gasped at the sight of Fargo. He was pale, dark circles drooped under his eyes, and not only did he look like he was run over by a semi truck, he was moaning feverishly in pain. Allison looked back to see streaks of blood where Fargo had just been. Shocked she yelled to the medical team, "Wait! Hes bleeding heavily from somewhere, I think on his side!". Everyone decided to wait with questions until Fargo was in a more stable condition. When they finally got to the infirmary Allison sunk into a nearby chair knowing she had to just watch and wait. "What happened Allie?", asked an oddly concerned looking Stark. "Well he was walking home when the storm began. I picked him up when I saw someone walking by the road. He was kind of clutched over now that I think about it, and he fell unconcious shortly after.". The two men were shocked, they had never seen Fargo like this. They might not admit it but they were shaken, and scared for their friend. Fargos fever was now at 104.6 and it was getting worse. He thrashed and cried out due to the fever that took over his mind and wet coughs wracked his body. Allison couldnt help but shed a tear for Fargo. It was hard seeing him like this, so miserable. Later that night after a little while of calmness, alarms and beeping startled all three of them as well as the doctors. The high fever had triggered a seizure. His temperature got up to 106.1. His body convulsed violently and Fargo was unrecognizable. Allison couldnt help but cry over this terrifying experience of watching this happen to Fargo. And maybe no one noticed but both men had welled up at the sight of their friend suffering. After the second seizure the doctors decided to put him in a bed of ice. This brought the fever down slowly, but it was enough to stop the seizures. At about 1 am, after a lot of pain and suffering for Fargo, his fever broke. Even though his fever broke though the doctors still had to perform surgery on the wound in Fargos side. There was a peice of small branch that punctured his side but they wanted to wait to remove it till the fever had broke. The surgery was short and it went well, but it would not be a painless journey for Fargo. The others waited by his bed as he slept somewhat peacefully if not for the wirring and soft beeping of the machine and his labored breathing. Fargos eyes slowly opened. He felt as horrible as one could feel. Worse then anything he could picture anyway. He awoke to see Carter, Nathan, and Allison looking at him sitting in chairs by his bed. "How are you feeling Fargo?" Stark said. "Im alright I guess, what happened?" Fargo said in such a muffled hoarse voice that shocked him. "You were walking home when a storm blew through. Evidently Allison says you had tripped on a branch which we assume is how you got stabbed in the side. The worst of it was your fever. It got so high that you had a couple of seizures. It was scary seeing you like that Fargo.", Allison said a little choked up. " You also had some harsh coughing fits which caused you to break a rib, in turn puncturing your lung. But your over the worst of it now. And dont rush yourself healing, we know what a hard worker you are but you have to give your body time to heal.", Nathan said with more sympathy then most people get to witness. Fargo just let his head fall to his pillow in exaustion and a little disbelief. Fargo looked up at them, "Dont worry, I dont think I will be coming to work for a little while and for some reason I dont mind. I feel like ive been in a train wreck.". The others just chuckled. "We will all be back to check on you until your out of here which should be a couple of days, then you can rest at home." Allison said sweetly. Fargo just nodded and let sleep overtake him once more. "He looks so peaceful. Goodnight Fargo", Carter said patting the bed softly. After 2 days in the infirmary Fargo was able to go home. A nurse helped him to Carters jeep where Carter stood waiting. Fargo had to use a high tech walker which made him feel about a billion years old. But secretly he was grateful for it. It helped him walk and he felt pretty weak most of the time. And not just that but it helped with the pain in his side from where his surgery was done on the wound and where is rib had broken. Slowly he got into Carters car with the help of both the nurse and the sympathetic sheriff. After a week of healing at home, Fargo thought it was time to get back to work despite how his friends felt. They knew he needed more time. His body had been through a lot. But they also knew Fargos pride was a little fragile right now, though he was being pretty gracious so far. Fargo woke up in his bed knowing today was his first day back at G.D. It had only been a week and a half since hed first been in the infirmary but he told himself to push through and act fine. Getting up Fargo didnt feel much better than he had a couple days ago, and his side hurt worse than the night before. He figured it would just take more time though and he needed to get back to work. He walked with a cane/crutch which made him feel silly but he knew he needed it. Walking in he tried to ignore the looks of curiosity and sympathy. Fargo walked into Starks office. "Hey Fargo welcome back, you sure youre up to it today?". "Yes sir, I would really like to get back to work.". "Alright if youre sure.". Nathan gave Fargo a few easy tasks and it took Fargo longer than he wouldve liked. The pain in his side was increasing and he was sweating. He figured they just cranked up the heat for some reason in the building. At the end of the day Fargo was getting ready for a meeting with Allison, Stark, Henry, Carter and some of the lead scientists. He felt like crap and just wanted to get through the meeting and go home. During the meeting Allison noticed Fargos eyes. They were unfocused and glazed like they had been that night in the car. She hoped it was nothing but she knew better. Fargos pain was beginning to be unbearable and his mind felt hot and foggy. Stark was speaking when Fargo got up to get some water. Standing up he saw black dots starting to form in his sight and he fought hard to stay concious. He collapsed on the floor grabbing his side in pain. Allison and Stark rushed to Fargos side immediately. The others stood by worried and Carter called for a medical team. Allison pulled up Fargos shirt and pulled back the bandages on his wound. Her suspicions were confirmed. There was a deep infection. Fargo was hot to the touch and his face was contorted with pain. They knew they had to act fast. "His wound is infected. Its bad...I dont want him to go through this again Nathan", she said holding back the tears. The others were terrified for their friend like they were before and silently prayed for the medical team to hurry up. After about 30 seconds, which to them felt like a lifetime, the team got there and quickly but carefully loaded him onto the gourney. "Gosh hasn't this kid been through enough already", said one of the doctors as they quickly checked his vitals. Fargo shuffled mumbling in his feverish sleep. "M'sorry". He mumbled. This made Allison shed tears turning into Stark for comfort. The surgery lasted 4 hours. Everyone was exhausted but held on for Fargo. He was out of surgery now but there was little change it seemed. They hoped they got it all and that his fever would break, but all they could do was wait. Days went by and visitors came and went. Some stayed longer than others. Fargos temperature would rise and fall, and he was yet to wake up. They wished he would, to see a sign of the Fargo they knew and loved. 2 weeks later his fever seemed to break for good and the infection was gone. His body was healing now, but Fargo was still not waking up. One night Stark and Allison went to see Fargo in the infirmary. They stood by his bed watching the rise and fall of his chest. He looked so broken down. Hopeless and helpless, like a child. It was heartbreaking. They knew they were the closest thing he had to family. His grandmother was living in Alaska and both his parents passed away when he was young. Ever since, hes been working in his studies, on projects and immersed in what he did best. "Please come back to us Fargo, were your family. We love you and we miss you so much", Allison said as she stroked his soft cheek. All the sudden a tear fell from Fargos eye. She knew he was in there and could hear her somehow. She squeezed his hand and kissed his cheek. Nathan held his other hand and tried unsuccessfully to hold back a tear. Machines then started going off suddenly. Doctors rushed over but neither of them let go of Fargo. Fargos eyes fluttered open and he sat up with a sudden coughing fit. They were still for a moment in shock! "Hes awake!", said the nurse. Allison rubbed his back and Nathan layed a hand on his chest pushing him gently back down. "Fargo, youre back", said Nathan happily and very relieved. Fargos eyes were strangely vibrant. They were beautiful and calming, like the sea after a storm. He just layed his head back down and softly chuckled. Allison and Stark looked at eachother confused. "Whats so funny?", Allison had to ask. "Well just think, all this just because of a walk in the rain.". They laughed at that. Finally. There was the kind and sweet Fargo they knew. They sat with him, talking and laughing all night. In the middle of Nathans sentence they realized they hadnt noticed Fargo fall asleep. It was different though then before. His face had life in it and he slept with a peaceful smile. Allison kissed his forehead and they left, knowing he would be just fine.
