A/N: I have to give my friend radpineapple the credit for this one...this was originally her short fic, A Christmas Surprise, which I very much encourage you to go read because it is wonderful. Anyway, we got into a discussion about it and she let me elaborate on the ending, expanding it so the Captain Canary interaction became a real thing. I did take most of the beginning from her fic, but I changed it a bit to personalize it and, you know, not plagarise. Anyway, I hope you all enjoy it, and PLEASE go check out radpineapple's shorter version and leave her reviews!

Disclaimer: Literally none of this is mine, considering the original fic was by someone else and if I owned LoT none of these fics would be necessary because Len wouldn't be dead and Captain Canary would have happened already.

Miracles Do Happen, Sara

Christmas in Star City was something truly magical. It may have had something to do with Oliver's annual Christmas party being held at the Queen Mansion, except for the fact that the Queen Mansion hadn't been occupied in two years.

Well, tonight it was the host of a Queen Christmas party that could be explicitly stated to be for superheroes only.

Most of Team Flash and Team Arrow were here, as well as all the Legends - even Rip had grudgingly left the Waverider to join in the festivities, a move that had shocked the whole team (even Gideon). The Queen Mansion was filled with music, laughter, and a general sense of warmth as the respective superhero teams mingled and traded war stories about their villains. A large Christmas tree stood tall and majestic in the center of the room, covered in ornaments and candy canes and impressive for all that it had been put up earlier that very same day.

"So," Barry Allen said as he approached Oliver Queen, grinning at his friend. "What made you finally decide to have your annual Christmas party after all?"

Oliver rolled his eyes but smiled and let his gaze travel across the room. Diggle was standing with Lyla by the tree and had his baby girl in his arms. Little Sara reached out and touched an ornament, curious, then squeaked as it swung back toward her. Lyla laughed, and Dig merely smiled, looking happier than Oliver had seen him of late. Oliver's gaze wandered further; there were Felicity and Ray, geeking out over something or other and laughing together (Oliver wasn't going to pretend that that didn't send the slightest twinge of jealousy through him); a flash of movement became Lisa Snart, invited by the Legends because of her brother's death, as she pulled Cisco onto the dance floor. Cisco pretended to be reluctant, but by the smile on his face Oliver could tell he was enjoying himself.

"I'm not sure," Oliver answered, smiling as Cisco nearly tripped over his own feet and Lisa caught him, laughing. "Something about this...it just feels right."

"Yeah," Barry agreed thoughtfully, letting his own gaze wander. "It does."

Barry's gaze caught on Iris, who looked across the room from where she was talking with Roy and Rip Hunter and smiled at him. Barry then looked towards the punch table (though there was more alcohol than punch on the menu), where Thea and Mick stood sharing anecdotes, the likes of which seemed to be becoming increasingly elaborate and dramatic by the second as more alcohol was consumed. Caitlin was catching up with Professor Stein and didn't break their conversation even as they headed to the punch table for refreshments. Barry heard laughter and looked over to find Jax and Wally laughing together about something Joe and Quentin were saying. Knowing the two policemen, it was probably some embarrassing story about Barry, Iris, Laurel, or Sara.

Speaking of Sara...

"What are you two idiots smiling about?" asked Sara Lance as she approached them from behind, a grin on her face and a drink in her hand.

Oliver and Barry both turned around. The two heroes exchanged a look - Oliver knew that grin, and Barry had enough experience with Oliver's friends to know that the grin most likely meant Sara was up to something - but before they could respond, the doorbell rang.

"Are you expecting anyone else?" Barry frowned quizzically.

"No. It's probably just a package delivered to the wrong address or something," Oliver brushed it off. "That happens sometimes."

"I'll get it," Sara offered, and sauntered to the door before Oliver could object.

Sara opened the door. Her eyes widened in surprise, and her champagne glass slipped from her hand and fell to the floor, shattering with a crash loud enough to make the whole party freeze. But her gaze was locked on the person standing in front of her.

This couldn't be happening. This couldn't be real.

"Leonard?"

"Merry Christmas, Sara," replied Leonard Snart, his usual wry smirk in place the way it always was.

Sara shook her head in disbelief. "No," she said. "No, this isn't real, this can't be real."

"Sara -" Leonard tried to say, but Sara cut him off.

"You're dead," she said. "You sacrificed yourself to save the team when the Oculus Wellspring blew up. You're dead."

By now the other Legends had abandoned their conversations and gathered at the door behind her.

"Snart?" Mick asked, disbelief coloring his tone. He glanced at his bottle, wondering if it was spiked with some hallucinogen.

Leonard nodded. "You're not hallucinating, Mick," he drawled.

It was Martin's turn to speak next. "Mr. Snart..." the professor said. "Is this truly you?"

Leonard nodded again, though it was more of an arrogant tilt of his head. "Your eyes don't decieve you, Professor," Leonard told him. "I'm real."

Jax now. "Wait, hold up, Sara's right," Jax protested. "You're supposed to be dead."

"Ta-da," Leonard drawled. "Not as dead as you thought."

"But how is this even possible?" Rip asked. "The Oculus destroyed everything. There's literally no way anyone could have survived that explosion."

"I can explain," Leonard placated. "But I get the feeling we're all being stared at. Let me in?"

Sara recovered first, though she was still reeling. "You heard the man, move it," she ordered, and the Legends all moved to the sides to let Leonard in.

"Lenny?"

All eyes turned to Lisa Snart as she stared in disbelief at her brother.

"Hello, Lisa," Leonard sighed.

Lisa approached cautiously. "They told me you were dead," she said.

"I know," Leonard replied. "I owe you an explanation too."

Lisa stopped in front of her big brother, still not quite able to believe he was real. Then she made a move no one expected - she reached out and slapped him. Leonard took the hit well, considering.

"I probably deserved that," Leonard said, recovering.

"Hell yeah you did," Lisa snarled. "You owe us all an explanation."

"Explanations can wait until tomorrow," Rip decided. "It's Christmas; take this as a miracle and keep the party going. Let's all just enjoy this one evening before our lives go insane again, shall we?"

A few moments of tense silence, then: "You heard the captain," Oliver spoke up. "What are you waiting for? Let's keep the party going!"

Gradually, the party resumed itself, the Legends all drifting back to their conversations. Except Sara, who retreated to a corner and put her head in her hands.

Oliver and Barry both watched her from a distance, concerned. "Should we -?" Barry started to ask, but Oliver pressed him back.

"Give her some space," Oliver advised. "Besides, she'll have enough on her hands. There goes Snart."

Barry looked, and sure enough, Snart was walking toward Sara.

"This should be fun," Barry muttered.

A familiar drawling voice made Sara look up in alarm. "You're mad at me."

Leonard stood there, hands in his pockets and looking more nervous than Sara had ever seen him. It wasn't an expression she was used to seeing on his face.

"You think?" Sara said, looking away. "You died."

"A feat you've performed and survived multiple times," Leonard remarked drily.

"Don't bring that up," Sara snapped. "You don't get to play that card."

"Why not?" Leonard asked.

Sara glared at him. "You died. You died and you left us believing you were gone and you left me -"

Sara caught herself, but it was too late; the words were already out. To his credit, Leonard's only reaction was to say, "Your friend Queen and Barry Allen over there are both staring at us. We'll attract less attention if we're somewhere a little less conspicious than a corner of the room." He teased her by quoting her, from the bar in 1975: "Care to dance, Sara?"

Despite herself, Sara smirked at him, unable to resist. "Two things. One: Won't dancing just draw more attention to us?"

"Not if we blend in to the others," Leonard pointed out, nodding at the dance floor that had begun filling up with couples. Dig and Lyla were dancing (they'd handed their daughter off to a very surprised Rip), Lisa and Cisco were still at it, Barry had drifted away and was dancing with Iris, Caitlin had humored Jax and was dancing with him, Ray and Felicity were dancing (Oliver looked rather jealous)...Sara could see Leonard's point.

"And two," Sara said, smirking at him. "I thought you didn't dance."

Now Leonard grinned and offered her his hand. "For you," Leonard said, only half-teasing, "I think I can make an exception."

Sara rolled her eyes but accepted the offered hand. Leonard pulled her out onto the dance floor.

"You are a surprisingly good dancer for someone who doesn't dance," Sara remarked, trying not to meet his eyes.

"Yeah, well," Leonard sighed. "It's not something I brag about. Being a criminal and all...being a good dancer isn't exactly something you put on your resume."

They fell silent.

"You're right, you know," Leonard said. "I did leave you behind. And I have regretted that every moment since. But you and I both know I had to save Mick's life."

"I don't understand how you're here," Sara told him. "You died. Rip's right, no one could have survived the explosion of the Oculus. So how are you here?"

"When the Oculus exploded, I was blasted into the time stream," Leonard explained. "I don't really remember much about it, but I eventually fell into the middle of 2007. It took me a while to regain some semblance of conciousness - some young widow found me and attempted to nurse me back to health. Once I was awake and had figured out where and when I was, I tracked down a rogue time pirate and stole his ship. I ditched said ship at the docks the moment I was back in 2016 and walked here. To find you."

Sara still refused to meet his eyes. "Even still," she said. "You had us all believing you were dead."

"I know," Leonard said, a tinge of exasperation creeping into his tone. "And I've told you I regret making you believe that, but -"

"It's been three months, Leonard!" Sara interrupted. That caught him off guard; she pushed on. "Three months you had us think you dead! Three months of me trying to ignore my feelings and be a good member of the team, three months of me and Mick drinking and sparring to try and forget our grief, three months filled with nightmares and half-concieved dreams of what could have been if you hadn't made the sacrifice play, and now you show up all snarky and arrogant as you usually are - three months, Leonard. Just as I was finally starting to come to terms with the fact that you were dead, you show up and shatter everything I've built to keep anything I feel regarding you locked away." Through all this, her voice hadn't risen above the general noise level in the room, so no one was any the wiser about their...well, conversation was too polite.

Leonard waited until she'd regained some sense of control before speaking. "I didn't know it had been three months."

That made Sara look at him. "What?"

"I didn't know it had been three months since the Oculus," Leonard elaborated. "There's no sense of time in the time stream, you know that. It felt like a moment for me. And I'm sorry - this can't be easy for you, not after the way we ended things."

Sara looked away again; that kiss had been the subject of quite a few fantasies and even more nightmares.

Leonard appeared at a loss for words. Both of them tuned in to the song they were now dancing to, which was incidentally something from Sara's playlist (she'd kicked Oliver's ass in a sparring match and therefore had gotten to choose the music).

"One step closer
Closer to the light...
No matter where we're going
I'll be by your side...
And everything we used to know
Crashed into the great unknown
One step closer
We're gonna be alright...

'Cause even underneath the waves
I'll be holding on to you
And even if you slip away
I'll be there to fall into the dark
To chase your heart
No distance could ever tear us apart...
There's nothing that I wouldn't do
I'll find my way back to you..."

Leonard smiled a little, not the usual arrogant smirk but soemthing softer, genuine, real. "I'm not normally one for love songs," he said, "but in this instance, I think it qualifies."

Sara wondered what he meant by that, and was about to tell him as much when he added, "Just...listen."

So she did, as Leonard led her in a dance that was mirrored by the other couples on the floor, which by now had been filled with everyone at the party at least once but had cleared except for couples for the duration of the song. Oliver and Felicity were dancing; looking around, Leonard noted his sister was still dancing with Cisco Ramon; Sara's eyes fell on Thea and Roy (who'd turned up for this event only); Dig and Lyla danced together, both with large smiles on their faces; Barry had managed to keep Iris on the dance floor; and Sara and Leonard themselves were of course still dancing as well. Sara noted the expression on Rip's face as they danced past; he looked a little heartsick.

She could understand that feeling.

"On my way now
Don't give up on me...
And no one knows what
What tomorrow brings...
These weary eyes will never rest
Until they look in yours again
I'm on my way now
I still believe...

'Cause even underneath the waves
I'll be holding on to you
And even if you slip away
I'll be there to fall into the dark
To chase your heart
No distance could ever tear us apart...
There's nothing that I wouldn't do
I'll find my way back to you...

I'll find my way back to you...

I'll find my way back into the dark
To chase your heart
No distance could ever tear us apart...
There's nothing that I wouldn't do
I'll find my way back to you...

Oh-whoa-oh! Whoa-oh! Whoa-oh!
Oh-whoa-oh! Whoa-oh! Whoa-oh!
Oh-whoa-oh! Whoa-oh! Whoa-oh!
Oh-whoa-oh!

There's nothing that I wouldn't do
I'll find my way back to you...

I'll find my way back to you...

I'll find my way back..."

With that, Leonard pulled Sara neatly off the dance floor and off to the side, obscured by the crowd of their friends as everyone else overtook the dance floor once more and the music changed to something more upbeat.

"Sara," Leonard said. "Please believe me when I say that that song we just danced to was probably the most true thing I could have ever said to you, if I had the courage to. And a predisposition to randomly burst into song may have been helpful too."

Despite herself, Sara laughed. Same old Leonard.

"You're forgiven," she grumbled. "Just don't die on me again."

"Wasn't planning to," Leonard said. Then he glanced up and rolled his eyes.

"What's wrong?" Sara asked.

"Look up," groaned Leonard. Sara did, and couldn't resist her own eye roll; Leonard had accidentally pulled them into a spot right under some conveniently placed mistletoe.

"Seriously?" Sara said. "I bet it was Barry who put this up. Seems like the sort of thing he'd do."

"Who cares about all the mistletoe stuff?" Leonard agreed. "It was most likely Barry. And he could have done it without anyone noticing."

"True, he is the Flash," Sara mused. "He could have -"

She was cut off by Leonard kissing her.

Smooth bastard, she thought immediately, though she kissed him back, somewhat shocked by how right it felt. His arm was around her waist, his other hand buried in her hair, and Sara forgot everything as she got into it, her own arm going around his shoulder as her other hand found his shirt and siezed it. This was what should have happened, long before the Oculus, and both Leonard and Sara knew it.

They separated, and Sara grinned at him. "Smooth, criminal," she teased, also purposefully naming a Michael Jackson song.

Leonard smirked at her. "You know me."

"That I do," Sara replied, and pulled him in for another kiss.

Across the room, Oliver and Felicity stood talking with Barry and Iris, all four of whom had taken a break from dancing. It was Oliver who noticed first the scene under the mistletoe that, yes, Barry had hung at strategic intervals throughout the room.

"Is that..." Oliver trailed off, shaking his head.

The other three looked, and were also surprised.

"Sara and Snart..." Barry said, doing a double take.

"Kissing?" Iris finished, sounding incredulous.

Felicity merely smiled and shook her head. "Apparently, miracles do happen."

Oliver glanced at Felicity and hid his own smile. "Apparently they do."

And a little Ollicity and WestAllen there for you all as well...hope you enjoyed, this was fun to write. Song above (because yes, it's me, so naturally I had to include a song) is "Find My Way Back" by Eric Arjes if you're interested.
