Musings on a Rainbow

A Fruits Basket one-shot fic by SJO

Note: I do not own Fruits Basket. Some spoilers from the end of the second season. A shout-out to John and Ally at ThoughtBubble on YouTube for giving me the idea.

In the afternoon, Tohru looked up and saw a rainbow. "Oh, how beautiful!" she said to herself. She just stood still and fondly thought, Mother, did you send this rainbow to me? Thank you.

With his good eye, Hatori spied a rainbow outside his office window. That's strange. It didn't rain today. He admired it for a little while, then went back to his work. After all, rainbows are only refracted light through water vapors, nothing that special.

Kagura glimpsed a lovely rainbow up in the clouds. "So pretty!" She remembered how people always said rainbows were good for wishes, and she made a big wish for love.

Kisa stared into the skies at the bright rainbow. She loved all the colors and how it made the skies look even bluer.

Hatsuharu sleepily glanced up at the skies and saw a rainbow. "Nice." He wondered if Rin could see it wherever she was. Would it make her happy? Would his dreams of being back together with her come true?

Momiji spotted the rainbow during his violin lesson. "Ah, wie sch?n!" Such a lovely sight. Can Momo see it too? He smiled and began playing "Somewhere Over the Rainbow."

Risu peered into the sky and witnessed a rainbow. It had been a long, hard day of apologies, and it was nice to see one thing that looked cheerful.

Ayame beheld a glorious rainbow out his window at his store. He caught it making a frame with his fingers. "Oh, how marvelous! I must capture such brilliant colors in my next order; it shall look perfect!"

Hiro peeked at the sky and noticed a rainbow. He didn't look at it too long because looking at rainbows was childish and silly, but he did think to himself about showing his new sibling rainbows.

Shigure watched as a rainbow stretched across the sky. Always such a lovely sight, rainbows. "Whatever promise you hold, I will find it one day . . . whatever it takes."

Yuki gazed at the incredible rainbow out in the clouds. He had seen so few in his life. He thought about that place they say is beyond the rainbow without any troubles. That would be nice. He wished he could live there. It's true that there's no place like home, and that was the problem.

Rin saw the rainbow up in the sky. All she could think about was how far away it seemed.

Kureno observed a rainbow high in the sky. It made his heart sad, reminding him that he could no longer fly.

Though she did not send it, Kyoko could see the rainbow where she was, and it made her glad. She Tohru could see it, and that it would fill her heart with hope. She needs hope now.

Akito glared at the rainbow up in the heavens. "Why do you taunt us?" If there's one thing I can't give the Somas—"Kureno, shut the window. The light hurts my eyes."

Kyo spotted a rainbow in the cloud, just as it was fading away. He wondered how many more he would get to see before . . .
