Chapter 9

Epilogue

When Kitty walked out of the water closet, the last thing she expected to encounter was a six foot seven inch, naked angel. Between the laughter and exhaustion, she fell back against the door for support.

Matt braced his hands on his hips, wearing his most playful smile. "Hey." Adding a wink and cocky nod he questioned, "Ever make it with an angel?"

Struggling to regain control, Kitty managed a straight face. "No I haven't. As a matter of fact my lover is more the horns and red tail type.

Matt stepped closer, snaking his arms around his lady. "I'll make you forget all about him." To prove his point, he pulled her in for a kiss. "Well? What do you think?"

Kitty licked her lips as if to sample the taste of his kiss. "Not bad but, I'm afraid I'm already addicted to the dark side." She turned to pull down the covers. "Take those things off and come to bed."

The giant cherub was quick to obey her commands. After carefully laying the wings in the armchair, Matt slid into bed beside his wife. "Once again, you gave your family a great Christmas." He propped himself up on one elbow, letting Kitty snuggle in closer.

"That was a nice thing Festus did for Doc and a nicer thing that Amelia did for both of them. You rank up there pretty high with what you did for Cooper."

"As Doc would say, oh pshaw." Despite the conversation, eager hands were lovingly stroking the smooth skin. "That was pretty slick of you to switch cakes too."

"Newly told you!"

"No, Barney told me after I threatened him." He kissed the pouting lips. "Don't worry; I threatened him again if he told anyone else. How did you manage it?"

"I just waited until she went upstairs and put the cake in one of her own pans. I told Newly to put it in the oven before she woke up so it would be warm." A mischievous grin emerged. "I even smeared some of the dough on the side of the pan."

"Sounds like Amelia saved the day for both you and Doc."

"Amelia was an angel. She understood that if I had gotten one from anyone in Dodge, everyone would have known." Blue eyes filled with love confronted him. "I couldn't bear to see my baby girl hurt. She tried so hard."

"You know what I think." Matt slid down closer. "I think the whole family made it a good Christmas. Lots of sacrifices, lots of love."

Kitty rose up to give him a kiss. "Why don't you shut off the light and you can show me some of those angelic moves."
