It was around three o'clock in the morning when a specific basset hound jumped into Bo and Luke Duke's bedroom through the window, followed by a nervous lawman, and a dressed-up marshmallow. Flash jumped up onto Bo's bed and started licking his face, while Rosco was busy helping Boss in through the window. Bo slowly opened his eyes and reeled back. He wiped his face, spitting. He reached over and turned on the lamp on the nightstand. Boss Hogg fell onto the floor, and the lights came on.

He and Rosco looked up, startled. Bo jumped out of bed, and ran to the door, causing so much noise that he woke Luke. Rosco began to run after him, but Luke blocked him. Bo ran down the hall to Uncle Jesse's room. He burst through the door and flipped on the light switch. Uncle Jesse sat up in bed.

"What're you wakin' me up for?" He hissed.

"Rosco and Boss Hogg 're in our bedroom!" Bo exclaimed.

Jesse climbed out of bed and followed him out. Luke was at the door still fighting with Rosco. Jesse pushed Luke aside and looked Rosco up and down.

"Now, we'd better get this thing straightened out, or you two are goin' back out that window and out on the street." Jesse said.

"W-well y-you see sir, ah, the boss here done got busted by the Feds for ah, runnin' shine." Rosco answered nervously.

Boss Hogg nodded. He knew it, Jesse knew it, the Dukes knew it, everybody knew it.

Jesse let out a sigh. "Alright, y'all can sleep out in the livin' room tonight. We can work the rest of this out in the mornin'."

Boss Hogg and Rosco followed Jesse out.

"C'mon Flash." Rosco called.

Flash didn't come. Rosco whistled, but the dog still did not come.

"If you keep doin' that you're gonna wake up Daisy, now go."

Jesse shooed them out, and Luke turned the lights off. Bo lay back down, and Flash jumped back up onto his bed and lay down next to him. Bo turned over on his side, trying to avoid the dog, but Flash crawled over his legs and tucked herself under his arm.

The next morning, as they all were in the kitchen for breakfast, Bo decided to give Rosco a piece of his mind. He was holding Flash in his arms as he walked around the table, and dumped the dog in Rosco's lap. Bo wiped his face and flicked his fingers at him.

"Next time when you call your dog, and she don't come, carry her out." He said angrily.

He sat down at his place at the table, next to Boss Hogg. Daisy came out and greeted all of them.

"Bo, Luke! How'd you sleep?" She asked sweetly.

"I didn't." Bo said.

"Oh, well that ain't good. Maybe you should drink some coffee just to wake up a little."

"No, it's alright Daisy, thanks."

"I'll take some, Daisy." Said Boss Hogg.

Daisy shot him an angry look and rolled her eyes.

Jesse set the food down on the table. Boss Hogg reached for some, but Jesse slapped his hand away.

"Wait until we pray." He said.

Boss Hogg reeled back, rubbing his hand. Daisy set a cup of coffee down in front of him, nearly spilling it on him purposefully, but Jesse gave her a look and told her to sit down. They all bowed their heads and were silent. A few moments passed, and soon they all began to eat, Rosco feeding Flash little bits at a time.

"Is this all you've got Jesse?" Boss Hogg asked.

Jesse set down his fork and looked at him. "J.D., if you're plannin' on hidin' out here, you've gotta start livin' by our rules. That means you're gonna eat like us, no meals that are gonna cost us a fortune,'' Jesse explained, "As for you, Rosco, try to keep your dog well away from the chickens."

"Ah, yessir." He said quickly.

Bo finished his food extremely quickly, and rushed to the door.

"Don't come cryin' to me when you get the hiccups again!'' Luke called after him.

Daisy finished up and took Jesse's plate. She planted a kiss on his cheek, and said, "I've gotta go to work, I'll be back around eight."

Jesse chuckled as she rushed out the door, followed by Luke. He got up slowly and walked to the door.

"You two should probably stay in here, case somebody from the law office decides to drop by." He said.

Rosco made a noise and started stroking Flash's head nervously. Jesse put his hat on and walked outside.

Daisy was climbing into her Jeep, and Bo and Luke were working on their car. Jesse walked up to them and took a quick look under the hood.

"So what's your goal this time?" He asked.

"To start it." Bo said.

Jesse took another look at it. "Haven't been able to get it to turn over?"

Bo nodded, resting his hands on the side.

"Luke, try starting it. Let me see what's wrong."

Luke climbed into the car and tried to start the engine. It sputtered and wouldn't turn over.

"It sounds to me like it's flooded." Jesse said.

"We already checked, that ain't the case." Luke said.

Bo started to go for the toolbox, but Jesse beat him to it. "The two of you can work on that after them bales are thrown down from the hayloft." He said, waving the toolbox around.

Bo sighed. "C'mon Luke."

Luke crawled out of the window, and sat on the door, looking down at the roof of the car with a defeated look on his face. Then, he hopped out and followed Bo to the barn.

They walked into the barn and climbed up the ladder to the hayloft. Luke kicked open the chute, and Bo tossed him a bale. He caught it, and stuffed it down the chute, kicking it in. They went on like this for about a minute. Toss, catch, kick. Toss, catch, kick. Toss, catch, kick. Just then, Rosco pulled himself up the ladder, and into the loft.

"So, how'd you and Boss get caught up in all this?" Luke asked him.

"Well," Rosco said while tossing a bale to him. "one of the boss's drivers got caught and ratted us out. Me and the boss were drivin' along one day when the state police stopped us and said we was under arrest." Rosco tossed him another bale. "We hightailed it to the Boar's Nest, but the FBI was waitin' for us there. We were chased into Benson's Woods until the gas tank went dry. Then we walked the rest of the way here."

"Explains why the two of you ain't been your usual selves."

"We just been a little on edge, is all." Rosco said.

"I knew Boss Hogg was a bit quieter since the last time I seen him." Bo said.

Rosco let out a soft laugh. Luke kicked the last bale down and closed the chute.

"So why'd you pick our farm, of all the places to go, you came here?"

"Well, I-I mean no offense, but everyone knows that the Dukes have been the sworn enemies of the Hoggs for generations, so we reckoned no one'd suspect us to be here." Rosco explained. "Nobody knows where we are."

"Not even Enos?" Luke asked.

"Except Enos." He said.

Luke looked at Bo and rolled his eyes. They climbed back down into the barn, and out the door. Rosco resided to the house, and Bo and Luke went back to fixing the car.

By midday, Luke was ready to give up.

"Now just hold on here a minute. Why don't we take it down to Cooter's, and have him take a look at it." Bo suggested.

"Alright, but what're we gonna haul it with?" Luke asked.

Bo thought for a moment, and then looked up at him, an idea lit up on his face. "We can hook it up to the pickup." Bo said. "I'll pull you in the General, you can sit inside and steer."

"That's an idea, why don't we take the main roads, I don't wanna get it stuck or anythin', and besides, main roads are faster." Luke said, closing the hood of the car.

Bo left to get the truck, and Luke climbed into the car so he was ready when Bo got back. Bo backed the truck up to the car and hooked it up with a Polish chain. He pulled out of the drive, and onto the road.

The drive to town was easy and went smoothly. Up until they actually went into town, things got a bit rough. Enos intercepted them and tried to ask them about Boss Hogg and Rosco. Then, a lawman started threatening them, because Enos had stopped them right in the middle of the street, and they weren't using the "proper equipment" for towing a vehicle. As if that weren't enough, Luke was in trouble for riding inside the towed vehicle. Thankfully, Cooter happened to drop by, and pick them up. The four of them sat inside Cooter's Garage discussing things.

"Ah, just a heads up y'all, I might stop by, and bring the sheriff a change of clothes." Enos said.

"Alright, we'll let Uncle Jesse know." Said Luke.

"It's sure a shame you guys' car ain't workin' no more."

"Well Enos, I'ma do my best but it might take me a while. Y' see, them Feds are sure watchin' every folk in this here county like a hawk, so the part I need might be late comin' in." Cooter explained.

Bo rested his arms on the roof of the car and hung his head. "How long can you give us?" He asked, looking up.

"A day, ah, maybe two."

"Alright, well I guess we'd oughta leave you to it." Luke said with a sigh.

He followed Bo and Enos out. Enos wished them luck, and then went on to do his job. Bo and Luke climbed back into the truck and drove off.

It was hard not to ever feel bad for Enos. He'd always wanted to run with the Dukes and Cooter, fighting the system, and hanging out with Daisy. He enjoyed being a lawman, though, especially now when Rosco and Boss Hogg weren't there to constantly talk down to him, and remind him of how much of an idiot he was. He'd do anything for them, to tell the truth, that was just the kind of person he was. He stumbled over himself in front of Daisy Duke, and he never had his head on straight working for the sheriff, but he'd do anything for anyone.

Bo and Luke drove to the Boar's Nest to talk to Daisy, and hang out with some people. They parked the truck outside and walked in.

Daisy was inside sitting at the bar comforting Lulu, Boss Hogg's wife, and Rosco's sister. She had been crying her eyes out, by the looks of it. She hadn't heard from either one of them in a long time, and she was beginning to worry something terrible had happened. None of them dared let her in on it. It was all over quickly though, Daisy was able to calm her down, and she went home after that.

"So, what're y'all doin' here?" She asked.

"We just got done droppin' the General off at Cooter's Garage, but he said it might take 'im a couple days to get the right part he needs." Bo explained.

"Did y'all happen to run into Enos?"

"Yeah, we did actually, why?" Luke asked.

"Oh it's just, I wish Boss Hogg had somewheres else to go."

"Y'know, Boss Hogg's been awfully quiet throughout this whole thing." Luke pointed out.

"Yeah, I've noticed too. Maybe he's afraid if he does anythin' to provoke us, we'll turn him over to the Feds." Daisy suggested.

"You might not be that far off, Daisy." Bo said.

"Maybe we should ask him." Luke said sarcastically.

Bo gave him a look.

"Y'all might not be able to ask that question to Boss Hogg but you might get a chance with Rosco." Daisy said.

Bo thought for a moment, then said, "We were talkin' to him this mornin', and he said that they were just 'on edge,' whatever that means."

"I guess it's worth a try, I'm gettin' a bit curious myself." Luke said.

They got up and walked out.

When they got back to the farm, it seemed quieter than usual. They pulled in and walked to the front door, but it was locked. Bo and Luke exchanged confused glances. Luke knocked on the door. No one answered. They snuck around back and opened their bedroom window. The two of them climbed in.

The house was so quiet, they would've been able to hear a pin drop. Bo went first out to the living room, while Luke checked Daisy's room to make sure no one was inside.

Bo found Boss Hogg and Rosco crouched by the window peering outside. Jesse was sitting at the kitchen table, drinking a cup of coffee. Bo glanced in his direction. Jesse put a finger up to his ear and made a circular motion in the air.

"Boss Hogg, what're you doin'?" Bo asked, annoyed.

"Those Feds are gonna be here any minute, and search this place." Boss Hogg quavered.

"How d'you know?"

"We, ah, heard 'em over the CB." Rosco babbled.

Rosco was constantly babbling and muttering. Making random noises instead of talking. It drove everybody crazy, but it was funnier than a hog chasing his tail. Think about that for a second. Rosco'd mess up sometimes, and Boss Hogg would chew him out, and all he'd hear over the CB would be a bunch of bumbling noises. Either way, Boss Hogg had been right. A federal car was on its way down the driveway.

The two of them reeled back from the window. Jesse got up and chased them down the storm cellar. After he'd latched it shut, and covered it with a rug, he turned to Bo.

"If they get caught, they ain't gonna be the only ones who end up in federal prison." He said.

Luke came out and realized what was going on. Jesse sat them down at the table and staged it. Jesse snuck a glance out the window. There were three men outside climbing out of the car. Jesse unlocked the door but didn't open it. He stood crouched over the table, resting his hands on a chair. There was a discrete knock on the door, and Jesse walked back over there to open it.

The men nodded their greetings, and kind of just barged inside. They started walking around and asking a bunch of questions. Everyone just played dumb, pretending that they had no idea what they were talking about. When they finally left, Jesse pulled the rug back and unlatched the cellar door. Boss Hogg and Rosco climbed out.

"That was close." Boss Hogg said.

The Dukes all gave him a skeptical look.

"I'm gonna go back to the Boar's Nest, and fill Daisy in on what just happened. You two raise Cooter on the CB, and bring him up to date." Jesse explained

Bo and Luke nodded and went off to do what they were told.
