Rin sighed as she stepped out into the sunlight and surveyed her fellow students. Every year she had managed to evade this event, but this was her last year at the Academy, and as a sixth-year student, she was expected to attend. The captains, lieutenants and first five seats of every division visited the Academy twice a year to scope out students. The students would use this opportunity to ask questions about each division and the Shinigamis would get to know the students' strengths. She knew her teachers had talked about their students to some Shinigamis, who were scattered across the courtyard, some even participating in the games being played. The games were ways for the students to show off their abilities to the Shinigami. She made an effort to avoid those.

Looking down at the booklet given to each veteran student, she leafed through the pages, reading through brief descriptions of each division. She ripped out the ones she was interested in as she made her way to a tree, fully intending on lounging in the shade until the event was over. Sitting cross-legged with her back to the tree, she spread out her options on the grass before her.

"Fourth division? Really?" a voice called from above her. She rolled her eyes.

"Good morning, Renji." She didn't look up as he landed next to her and poked at her head.

"That's Lieutenant Abarai to you, shortie." She swatted his hand away and grinned.

"Lieutenant, I have decisions to make, why don't you go play with the other children, hm?" Renji scoffed and sat next to her, taking the fourth division page from her spread of choices and crumpling it in his fist. Before she could protest, he replaced it with the 11th division page. She blinked at it. "Shouldn't you be recruiting for sixth?"

"You'll do well in 11th."

"No."

"Why not?"

"Because it's a rooster pen. And I'm too small."

"Our lieutenant is a tiny girl. And I want my sister with me!" Yumichika approached them, Ikkaku close behind him, tapping his Zanpakuto on his shoulder.

"Nii-san." She greeted. "Chrome-dome, careful not to get a sunburn." Ikkaku pulled at her braid. "Let go!"

"Wait!" he yanked at her hair harder. She looked at his ministrations and saw him tie a ribbon at the end of her braid. "Renji, you too."

"What's this for?" he caught the ribbon Ikkaku threw at him.

"I signed you two up for the next game." He ignored Rin's protests and tightened the ribbon. "Leave it in!" he gave her long braid one last tug before releasing it and slapping her hand away.

"What game is it?" Renji was already replacing his hair tie with the ribbon.

"Steal as many ribbons as you can." Yumichika pulled his sister up and pulled her away for a word. "I heard you no longer have an Asauchi. What's the name of your Zanpakuto?" He murmured lowly with a smile, eyeing the sword strapped to her back. It didn't look like the standard katana shaped Asauchi every student was issued anymore, but much longer, its black hilt sticking out from behind her left shoulder. "You trying to get to tenth division with a Zanpakuto as long as captain Hitsugaya's?"

"I'm thinking either fourth or 12th."

"TWELFTH? Are you insane?" Her brother held her by the shoulders. "I won't allow it. And fourth is a bunch of pansies. I know you can fight. Ikkaku even started to sweat last time you two sparred."

"Really? Do you think you can play with Kenny if you get into our division?" a tug at her sleeve made Rin look down at Lieutenant Kusajishi.

"Good morning, Lieutenant. I don't think Captain Zaraki would pick me." She let the smaller Shinigami hold her hand and tug her to the starting game.

"I bet if you win the game he will!" she nimbly climbed up the other woman and started to tighten the ribbon at the end of her braid.

"Lieutenant, you're pulling my hair! Ow!" Rin crouched and put the Lieutenant down. "I'll do my best, but there are other Lieutenants and Captains playing too."

"Let's go." Renji took her by the elbow and dragged her to the centre of the courtyard, where the other students and Shinigamis were awaiting instructions. Rin made note of the players. Many of her fellow students she was sure to beat, especially if she used shunpo, one of the specialities she was proud of. Aside from Renji, Lieutenants Matsumoto and Kira were also playing. There was only one Captain, and she gulped at the prospect of having to escape Captain Ichimaru. As if sensing her stare, he turned inquisitively to her. He waved and widened his grin. She shifted closer to Renji, her shoulder fitting snugly under his arm.

"Shit." She cursed under her breath. Captain Ichimaru Gin was a known womanizer, and she felt like a targeted prey already. She tried to pay attention to the game instructor, but she was still feeling his grin burning the side of her face.

"Ribbons are to be used on your hair exclusively. No leaving the designated area. That's from the wall to that white line. The use of swords is allowed, but no bloodshed. Any other abilities are allowed. If your ribbon is stolen, please sit and wait for the game to end. Begin."

Rin dodged Renji's hand and elbowed his side before sprinting away. She jumped and dodged, avoiding kidos, swords and grabs, and in about ten minutes, more than half of the students were sitting. Kira had managed to steal Lieutenant Matsumoto's ribbon, who was now sitting and cheering the students on. Most of the male students had their ribbons stolen because they were paying too much attention to her breasts jiggling with every move.

Rin managed to always keep on the opposite side of the area Captain Ichimaru was in. Only a handful of students remained, all trying to steal his ribbon in an attempt of showing off. Renji was a few steps in front of her, watching the exchange with his hands on his hips. She suppressed her reiatsu and slowly inched forward. When her hand was barely touching his ribbon, he whirled around with a huge grin and grabbed her wrist.

"Good job on suppressing your reiatsu." He praised. "But your breathing is too loud." He pulled her closer and made a grab for her braid with his other hand.

"No, no, no!" she let her body fall to the floor, throwing her leg up and kicking him in the armpit, forcing him to let go. She scrambled away, only looking back when she heard him curse loudly. Captain Ichimaru Gin was standing over all the sitting players, his fists full of ribbons and his slit eyes following her. "Shit." She breathed. His grin widened. "Shitshitshitshitshit!" she matched every step he took with another in the opposite direction. When he vanished, she was quick to react and shunpoed away.

"Yer a quick one, ain'tcha?" he started running towards her. "But are ya quick enough?"

"RUN!" She recognized her brother's voice egging her on. Lieutenant Matsumoto even went so far as to try and trip Captain Ichimaru, but he easily sidestepped her extended leg. "DUCK!" She threw herself down just in time to feel a gust of wind near her head. She looked up to see the captain's sword retracting back. "ARE YOU INSANE, YOU COULD HAVE CUT HER HEAD OFF!"

"SHUT UP, YUMICHIKA!" she hollered back, rolling onto all fours and slowly getting up into a crouched position. The captain was sauntering towards her. She wasn't exhausted yet, and she couldn't pretend not to have any skills if she wanted a position in any division. So she shunpoed to his near right and immediately to his far left as he tried once again to hit her with his sword. She read his movements and realized he was trying to cut her braid off. She pulled it to her front. "Shit!" Rin had to pull out her Zanpakuto to block his sword. She had taken her eyes off him for a fraction of a second to make sure the ribbon was still in place, and he had acted quicker than she had ever known someone to move.

"Ah, a student with a Zanpakuto. What's its name?" Captain Ichimaru leaned forward and inspected her sword curiously. She pushed back against his weight looming over her and zeroed in on the ribbon tied to a strand of hair on the right side of his head. She didn't trust her strength to hold this position with just one hand, so she stepped back, shunpoed behind him and reached out her hand.

She screamed as her wrist was grabbed and used as leverage to swing her in an arch above the Captain's head. Her scream died in her chest as all the wind was knocked out of her when he slammed her back on the floor. She barely had time to roll away as his blade swung down where her braid had been. She was still miraculously holding on to her blade, but she let it fall to free her hands.

She pumped her legs from her crouch to jump on Captain Ichimaru, startling him with her frantic actions just enough to allow her to kick his wrist away and tangle his legs, making him stumble a few steps back. He didn't trip or let his sword fall like she hoped he would, but she acted quickly and grabbed onto his shoulder, using her momentum to pull herself higher and flip over his head. As her hand released his shoulder, she tried grabbing the ribbon, but he tilted his head away and crouched, shunpoing away.

By now, Rin was a sweaty mess, her energy at its end. She leaned on her knees, panting and keeping Captain Ichimaru in her sights. He started circling her. Rin straightened and turned, so her back wouldn't face him. He stopped and grinned. Her sword was behind him. In a last attempt at winning a game she was obviously losing, she spread her hands out and shouted:

"Pierce, Chihari!" Captain Ichimaru hummed in question and turned at the rise in energy behind him. Her sword shattered into tiny fragments and hovered in the air, pointing at the captain. As they shot towards him, he shunpoed away, and the needles gathered in Rin's hands.

"Chihari, eh?" Rin's eyes went wide. He was behind her. With her last bit of energy, she tried to shunpo away, but only managed half the distance she had aimed for. She stopped close to the wall and leaned her back on it, hiding her braid between the wall and her body. She squeaked in surprise as Captain Ichimaru appeared in front of her, his sword sheathed at his side, but his hands on either side of her head. He grinned wider and leaned closer. "Are ya tired?"

Rin was breathing heavily and blinking sweat out of her eyes. She glared at him and in a last attempt tried to poke him in a vital spot with one of her needles. He caught her wrist and shook her until the needles fell from her hands. Her energy was at an end, and her Zanpakuto went back to its sword form. He twirled her around and slammed her against the wall, immobilizing her with her hands behind her back. He held both her wrists with one hand and took her braid in the other.

In a burst of anger, she yelled in defiance and threw her head back, trying to headbutt him, but he leaned back. Her movements were sluggish with exhaustion. He merely laughed and pulled her braid harshly, making her head crane back painfully. She grunted and bared her teeth at him.

Suddenly, with a loud thump, his hold on her released and his presence shifted. Rin looked back to see Captain Ichimaru on the floor, Lieutenant Kusajishi stomping on his back and wrestling the ribbons from his hand.

"I won! Look, Kenny, I won!" she giggled. Rin took her chance and pounced on the fallen Captain, grabbing at his hair and searching for the ribbon. Captain Ichimaru rolled so quickly, he knocked Lieutenant Kusajishi to the ground and used his elbow to pin Rin to the floor. She grunted as he pulled her braid from underneath her and ripped the ribbon off. The signal sounded for the end of the game and he released Rin, standing with a chuckle.

Rin squinted at the form in front of her as a shadow loomed above her fallen body and recognized Captain Zaraki. She looked at him inquisitively from the floor, too tired to move.

"Here." He handed her a crumpled piece of folded paper. She sat up and hesitantly took it and recognized it as one of the invitation forms the captains were giving out to students they deemed worthy for their division.

"Captain, I don't think I'm strong enough to join your division." She grunted as she finally rose to her feet while she halfheartedly listened to Captain Ichimaru bicker with Lieutenant Kusajishi.

"Ya weren't even playin'!" he argued her chants of "I won, I won!"

"You're not." Captain Zaraki agreed. "But you didn't give up the fight. He grinned at her, his sharp teeth making the hairs on her arms stand on end. "Yachiru likes you, and your brother is a pain." Rin nodded, laughing.

"Thank you, Captain." She bowed in gratitude and left towards her brother.

"What's yer name?" Captain Ichimaru called after her. She turned back.

"Ayasegawa Rin." She wiped the sleeve of her uniform over her forehead to stop the sweat from dripping in her eyes. She tilted her head at the silver haired Captain as he reached inside his haori and pulled out an invitation form.

"Here ya go." He held it out to her.

"Thank you?" she frowned in confusion.

"Oh?" He tilted his head at her reaction.

"I mean, thank you, Captain." She accepted it humbly.

"You were great!" her brother swooped in to hug her.

"She nearly had you, Renji." Ikkaku joined them.

"I let her." The redhead sniffed.

"Bite me, Renji, I nearly had you." She laughed breathlessly. She started looking around for fourth division's stand, hoping to get an energy pill and talk to Captain Unohana.

"Ask me again and I will." He stepped closer and towered over her, a lewd grin spreading across his cheeks. Yumichika shoved him away from his little sister, a frown on his face.

She left the bickering men and made her way to the stand she was looking for. Immediately, she received her sought after energy pill and was approached by the Lieutenant when she introduced herself to the nurse attending her. Apparently, her essay on correlating reiatsu syphoning with acupuncture and pressure points had caught Captain Unohana's attention, but she frowned upon the mindset of the research. Rin understood that fourth division would rather reverse her research, but she was upset nonetheless at being rejected.

She scanned the crowd, pouting and thinking about her options. She spotted Captain Kurotsuchi being avoided by many students and decided to be bold and made her way to him. His eyes zeroed in on her as she made a beeline for him, but she was intercepted by her brother.

"What do you think you're doing?" he hissed at her as he steered her away towards a food stand. She craned her head back and saw the Captain scratch his chin and point to her, muttering an order to his Lieutenant, who nodded and calmly followed them.

"Yumi-nii…" Rin sighed.

"What do you want to eat? My treat." He interrupted her. She sighed and pointed to a pork-stuffed onigiri. He got her two and led her away to the shade of a tree where Ikkaku and Renji were waiting.

"Excuse me." A voice called meekly from behind them. Rin turned and was pleasantly surprised to see Lieutenant Kurotsuchi addressing her. "Are you one of the students who submitted a research essay to apply for 12th division?"

"Ah, yes, yes I am. Ayasegawa Rin." She bowed. "My essay was on correlating reiatsu syphoning with acupuncture and pressure points." Rin shook her brother's hand from her arm and shot him a glare. "I'll be right with you." She shooed him away.

"Your essay was one of the few that caught Captain Kurotsuchi's attention. Please, take some time to talk to him." She turned and led Rin back to her Captain. Rin wiped her sweaty palms on her hakama trousers as she approached the intimidating Captain.

"So you're one of the less useless students this year." He greeted her rudely. "What is the basis of your research?" Rin went directly to the point and reported her thesis, sources, research, argumentation, experiments and data analysis as briefly as she could while still demonstrating attention to detail.

"I know there's already a similar research being studied for the energy pills fourth division uses, but my research would be conducted aiming towards use in battle and weakening an opponent, while simultaneously replenishing spent reiatsu. This could mean longer endurance in battle, and rapid healing of superfi—"

"I know what it could mean, girl." He interrupted her. "You seem to be useful to my division. If you end up in another division, consider selling me your research, or whatever crude beginnings you managed to come up with. Nemu, give her an invitation form."

"Yes, Mayuri-sama." Rin accepted the folded piece of paper from the Lieutenant.

"Thank you, Cap—"

"Come, Nemu." He simply turned and left, his Lieutenant at his heels.

"Rude." Rin jumped at a voice behind her and turned to see Lieutenant Matsumoto with her fists on her hips, glaring at Captain Kurotsuchi's retreating back. "You're not considering joining 12th, are you?"

"Lieutenant." Rin greeted. "You know I like research."

"I've told you, call me Rangiku, you're a friend!" she slid her arm over Rin's shoulders and steered her to the games' sign-up table.

"Okay, why are we here?" Rin eyed the game master as he stood, ready for the next game.

"Wait! She's participating in this one too!" Lieutenant Matsumoto tore the list of names from the man's hand and quickly added Rin's name to it. "Here." She gave it back to the grumpy game master.

"If only you were as quick with your paperwork." A bored voice startled both of them, making them squeak in unison and turn around.

"Captain Hitsugaya!" His Lieutenant laughed nervously. "Here, I found someone for our division!" she pushed Rin towards him. "See, she's short and has a long sword just like you!" Rin blushed as she was pushed close to the Captain, who steadied her by grabbing her arms.

"Lieutenant Matsumoto, that's not a valid criterion to choose a division member!" Rin stepped away from Captain Hitsugaya.

"Rin-chan, I told you to call me Rangiku!" The buxom woman pouted.

"The game's about to start." Captain Hitsugaya turned away. "Are you participating?" he called back to Rin.

"I—I suppose." She followed him to the centre of the courtyard. She didn't know what game this was, but she guessed it had something to do with speed. The students present were all in her advanced shunpo group, and the Captains present were all known to be the fastest among the Gotei 13: Kuchiki Byakuya, Soi Fon, Hitsugaya Toshiro and Ichimaru Gin. "Oh, no." she muttered. Captain Hitsugaya looked back at her groan and followed her gaze to Captain Ichimaru, already grinning at her.

"Focus." Was the only thing the short Captain said to her before he turned his attention to the Game Master.

"This is a simple game of tag. Please deposit your swords on this table. No other abilities aside from shunpo are allowed. Each starts with five points. If you are tagged, you lose a point. If you reach zero points, please sit and wait for the game to end. Please leave your swords on the table now." He waited for all participants to comply and go back to the centre of the courtyard. "Captain Kuchiki is it. Begin."

The speed of that man was amazing. In less than a second, he had tagged Captain Hitsugaya, who easily tagged a student twice his size. From then on the game was mostly played by the students, some already having given up on catching a Captain, some (like Rin) conserving their energy for those Captains. The nature of the game was fast, so in a few minutes, only a handful of students remained. Rin had her eyes focused on whoever was tagging at the time and shunpoing as little as possible, until only she and another student remained. The Captains, bored until now, watched the two students face each other from opposite sides of the courtyard.

"You're going down, Ayasegawa." Nakashima Kouji, the fastest student in the academy (or so he believed) grinned at her.

"I have two points advantage, slowpoke." Rin grinned right back at him. She matched his pace easily, he had not been saving his energy as she had, but she got cocky and tripped, giving him the opening he needed. "Aw, crap." She skidded to a halt and turned, weighing her options. Nakashima was standing an arm's length away from Captain Ichimaru. As much as she wanted to avoid him, she figured it wouldn't be an expected move. She kept her eyes focused on Nakashima, starting at a jog towards him. When he crouched, she shunpoed towards him, but extended her hand to the right, managing to slap Captain Ichimaru's arm. She shunpoed away as quickly as she could from the surprised Captain and looked apprehensively at him.

Captain Ichimaru simply grinned. Rin prepared to lose another point, but the game moved to the captains. It went much faster than the student's game, and gave the last two students time to catch their breath. As far as Rin could keep up with her eyes, Captain Ichimaru tagged Captain Kuchiki, who tagged Captain Hitsugaya, who tagged Captain Kuchiki back, who fought valiantly against Soi Fon, losing and sitting gracefully. Next, Captain Ichimaru sat, grinning and following Rin with his slit eyes as she gulped when Captain Soi Fon tagged Nakashima for the last time, who managed to catch Captain Hitsugaya before sitting.

It was just Captain Hitsugaya, Captain Soi Fon and Rin now. Captain Hitsugaya was it, and on his last point. Captain Soi Fon still had three points, as did Rin. He tagged Rin easily, who was paying more attention to Captain Soi Fon.

"I told you to focus." He growled at her as he lowered himself to sit after expending his last point. Rin was at her last two points, while Captain Soi Fon still had three. She eyed Captain Soi Fon. There was no way she could beat the captain of the Onmitsukido. She decided to try the approach she used in class. Grounding her feet and shifting to stand in a comfortable position, she stood still and watched the other Captain. The students who knew her tactic groaned in exasperation. She was waiting out her opponent.

Captain Soi Fon grinned. She knew what Rin was doing and decided to test her patience. She slowly walked over to the student and stood within reach, waiting for a reaction. Rin stood stock still and held eye contact with the Captain, forcing her face to betray no emotion.

"Are ya gonna kiss?" Captain Ichimaru's voice interrupted their stare-off, making Captain Soi Fon roll her eyes. That's when Rin shot her hand forward and barely managed to grab onto the Captain's haori as she shunpoed back, dragging Rin with her, who stumbled and was too slow to retreat, being immediately tagged back.

Rin was on her last point. Even if she managed to grab the Captain again, she wouldn't be able to escape. So, opting to show off a little, she used shunpo to the best of her ability, going after Captain Soi Fon in the designated area, darting back and forth. She was actually having fun, until the Captain suddenly stopped, making Rin slam into her back and fall on her ass.

"You're still not focusing." She heard Captain Hitsugaya call from a few feet to her right. She looked up in time to see Captain Soi Fon tag her for a last time with a flick to her forehead. The gong sounded and the participants stood to retrieve their swords.

"That was admirable, both of you." Captain Soi Fon held out a hand to help Rin up and handed her an invitation form. She was a serious woman, but Rin saw a glint of amusement in her dark eyes. She turned, handed another invitation form to Nakashima, and left to retrieve her sword. Rin and Nakashima looked at each other and grinned.

"Rin-chan!" Rin was smothered in a hug from Lieutenant Matsumoto. "You were great! Let's celebrate! Drinks on me."

"Celebrate what? I lost." Rin frowned. "I finished both games on my ass."

"That line of thought is remarkably like 11th division." Renji appeared and muttered nonchalantly.

"Go recruit for your own division, you baboon!" Rin stormed away to retrieve her sword. A hand reached for a sword similar to her own and she looked to her left to see Captain Hitsugaya strapping his sword to his back, like her. Only, he was right-handed, while she was left-handed.

"Matsumoto!" he called while still eyeing her. Rin was about Captain Soi Fon's height, at 150cm, so she had about 20cm on Captain Hitsugaya, but she still gulped at his stare. Lieutenant Matsumoto approached, grinning. "Give her an invitation form. You need to learn to focus properly if you want to get in my division. Think on that." He left without another word.

"I knew it!" Lieutenant Matsumoto pulled an invitation form. From between her breasts and handed it to Rin. "One more game and we go drinking." She turned Rin towards the centre of the courtyard and skipped away.

"Another? Who's signing me up for these things?" Rin put away the piece of paper with the others, safely in her pocket.

"I am!" her brother waved at her merrily from the shade of a tree. She searched for his friends, but he was alone.

"Once again, please leave your swords on this table." The game master called loudly. Rin sighed and went back to the table. She looked around at the participants of the next game and frowned in apprehension. They were all big, burly and strong. Was this—? "The wrestling competition will now begin." The game master confirmed her suspicion. She whirled around and glared at her brother, who was happily eating a red snow cone. "We do not have time for a proper competition, so each student will be paired with a Shinigami. Individual fights will be conducted simultaneously." He held a box full of slips of paper. "When I call out your names, please form pairs and move to one of the designated areas. Whoever pushes their opponent across the white line first, wins."

The game master started drawing names and little by little, the pairs started forming. Rin felt a chill as she saw Captain Ichimaru among the waiting participants, but heaved a sigh of relief when he was paired with another. He seemed disappointed, glancing at her, but said nothing. Finally, her name was called and she was paired with-

"Ayasegawa Rin and Madarame Ikkaku." the game master called. Rin didn't know if she should be glad she was fighting someone whose style she knew, or if it could bite her in the ass. She shook her head and stood in front of her opponent, deciding it didn't matter if she lost, she had good invitation letters from enough divisions to allow her to take her pick.

"Don't think I'll be going easy on you just because you're my friend's little sister…" he untied his shihakusho and tossed the haori aside, leaving him only in his hakama and waraji. She inwardly cursed at having nothing to grab on to, whereas he could grab her hair and clothes (and had done so before).

"Begin." The game master hit a gong and Ikkaku charged at her.

"Have you ever been attacked by a bird?" she asked loudly. Ikkaku was always a bit too slow in the head, and he faltered in confusion at her question, allowing her to sidestep him. "You know, because your head is so shiny." she grinned at his indignant yell, only to hastily duck a swipe at her.

It took her a while to get used to the area within the white circle they were given to spar, and Ikkaku was very aggressive, so she ended up faltering more than once, getting hit enough times to make her dread the bruises tomorrow. She was out of her league fighting with 11th division's third seat in such a small area, and they both knew it. Her only coherent plan was to dodge and evade, hoping to tire him out. Before long, her opponent pinned her arms to her side in a bear hug, lifting her off the ground, and was slowly squeezing, a manic grin on his face as she gasped for air, her chest centimetres from his face, much to his delight.

"Gotcha!" he cackled and squeezed a bit more as she tried to wiggle higher, hoping to gulp in some air. She was getting flustered at having her chest so close to his face, Ikkaku obviously enjoying himself, instead of throwing her out of the area and winning their fight. An idea made her stop straining and she smiled down at him. He didn't ease his grip, but looked inquisitively up at her stillness, then frowned at her change in demeanour. Rin pushed her chest into his face and whispered as seductively as she could with limited air supply.

"What are you going to do to me, Madarame?" she slowly slid her knee between his legs. He faltered enough for her to lean back and headbutt him, kneeing him in the groin. As she was released, she teetered with her heel on the white line, but managed to regain her balance enough to push Ikkaku. Her lack of air had made her blow to his jewels halfhearted, so he had enough composure to grab the fabric of her shihakusho and swing her around him, throwing her angrily and effortlessly from the white circle.

Landing in a heap and rolling onto her side, Rin chose to let her body fall limp with the momentum, panting heavily and accepting her unsurprising defeat. Her eyes closed as she laughed weakly at Ikkaku's curses and a few laughs around them. Her eyes snapped open as she heard quick footsteps stomping their way to her, but her brother thankfully intervened and held his friend back from pummeling her.

Renji approached her and offered his hand to help her up, suppressing a grin and trying to look disapproving of her dirty fighting. They managed to calm Ikkaku with the promise of dinner and drinks on Rin, much to her annoyance, and they made their way out of the academy grounds to meet with Lieutenant Matsumoto, who led them to a small, but cosy bar.
