Troy was usually very focused during his basket games, but this time was different. His dad was right. Gabriella had gotten in his head and changed things. He had never believed it before. With Gabriella he seemed to be playing way better, but now they had had an argument and Troy was totally out of it. He wanted to focus on the game, he really did, but every time he tried his mind went back to his talk was Gabriella the night before.

He was completely zoned out, barely noticing the people running in his directions with the ball. He turned around to follow them as he passed by, but didn't notice the opponent that tried to cross the field. It all went way too fast. They collided. Next thing Troy knew was that he was on the ground. A sharp, intense pain shot through his leg and he scream loudly in pain. So loud that the entire gym fell quiet. The referee paused the game.

Troy rarely cried, but he couldn't hold anything back. He screamed, sobbed and yelled, not caring what everyone else thought. He was writhing in pain on the floor, head thrown bag. It felt like ages but was probably only a few seconds before he could hear his dad's voice.

"Troy! Troy, look at me! Open your eyes, Troy!" Jack called to his son, who had his eyes shut tightly in pain. Troy sucked in all the strength that he had, which was just enough to open his eyes, letting more tears fall down his cheeks. Jack praised him and combed his fingers through his son's hair.

"Just lay still, Troy. It's going to be okay." The father and coach said. He then yelled for Chad who was watching in shock from a safe distance. Jack waved him over.

"Call an ambulance, then come back and help me get him off the field." He told the boy, who nodded and obeyed the orders.

"How bad is it?" Troy gasped out, tears still rolling down his cheeks.

"Let's let the doctors decide that, okay?" Jack smiled and tried to comfort his boy. Chad came back after a few minutes and said that the ambulance would be there in about 20 minutes. Jack nodded.

"Okay boys, I'm going to need both of you to help me right now okay. Troy, I'm going to grab you under the armpits and get you to sit up. When that's done, I need you to stabilize your knee with your hands, okay? Then Chad is going to put one arm around your back and one under your good knee and then we'll pick you up and take you off the field."

Both boys nodded and the plan started, whoever when Troy saw his injury, his eyes widened in fear and he let out another cry. His knee was not where it was supposed to be. It was completely deformed. His dad rubbed his back and mentioned for him to try to stabilize the knee, which Troy did with shaky hands. Chad and Jack quickly picked him up, earning another loud cry, but they continued to get him off the field. He was placed back down by the tribune and the coach's assistant got his water bottle for him. Jack stayed with his son the entire time, discussing what went wrong. Troy of course didn't tell his dad that Gabriella was the reason for his lack of focus.

"You must be the unlucky basketball-star," a paramedic greeted him as he and his colleague walked over with a stretcher. Troy nodded a little.

"Is it bad?" He asked.

"Well, you got yourself a good dislocation right there but it isn't going to kill you." The paramedic comforted. Picked Troy up and put him on the stretcher. They took him to the ambulance. Troy laid back and tried to calm down and not freak out. This was his first time in both an ambulance and hospital. He had never had an injury serious enough to go and he found it frightening. The paramedics took his blood pressure and pulse measuring. His dad sat beside him and rubbed his shoulder soothingly.

"Do you want to call mom?" Jack asked. Troy nodded a little and borrowed his father's phone to make the call.

"Hi mom," Troy greeted, his voice broke due to how raw it was.

"Hey Baby. What happened? What's wrong?"

Troy tried to force the words out but his throat was closing and tears were welling in his eyes. He took a deep breath.

"I'm in an ambulance. I got hurt during practice and dad and I are on the way to the hospital right now." He sobbed out. He and his mom continued to talk for a while until she requested to talk to his father. The paramedics chatted with Troy in the meanwhile. When they arrived to the hospital, he was taken to a room and the doctor and nurses came shortly after.

"Hi Troy. I'm going to be your doctor for today and we are going to reposition your knee. So what we're going to do is we're going to give you some Entonox which will calm you down and reduce the pain. Then we're going to stretch your leg and your knee will automatically pop back into place. Now, what is most important is that you keep breathing in the Entonox. Don't try to take it away, many people do but it's important that you don't."

Troy nodded a little but he was scared to death. He was shaking so badly. He didn't want to be here, he just wanted to go home. He felt himself starting to panic, his breaths becoming faster and tears starting to roll down his cheeks. His father grabbed his hand and squeezed it kindly. A nurse placed a mask over Troy's nose and mouth and told him to just breathe it in. He was given a few minutes for the Entonox to take effect and then he was told to try to just relax as much as he could. He tried. He really did. Then his foot was gripped and his leg was stretched painfully. Troy winced and cried. His father kept rubbing his hand.

Then came the most painful part. The pop. Troy screamed at the top of his lungs. The doctor, nurses and his father all tried to comfort him. He just tried brokenly. His father massaged his scalp which slowly calmed him down. In the meanwhile the doctor had put a brace on his knee. He was sent to get some x-rays. Then he was sent back to the previous room again, where the doctor explained that according to the x-rays Troy's knee seemed quite good, but we was going to set him up with a physiotherapist to do some recovery.

"Am I going to play basketball again?" Troy sobbed and looked at the doctor.

"Yes. You will be able to play again, but for now you'll have to watch and do your recovery, okay?"

Troy nodded. Jack held his son in his arms until his wife came and picked them up at the hospital.
