Chapter 1

Which apartment is it again?", Jamie asked with a side look towards Eddie. "5B." his partner answered. They walked up the stairs in silence. When reaching the fifth floor, they left the stairwell and started looking out for the suspects home. It had been a strange call. Someone called David Blaze had dialled 911 claiming he needed the Police at his apartment immediately. When he was asked what was wrong, he just said: "You will see."

Jamie knocked on the door. "David Blaze? Police here. Please open the door. He listened carefully, but there was no sound. "Are you sure this is the right house?" he wondered when a noise behind them took their attention. A young man had just left the elevator and was now staring at them, with, to Jamies surprise, an ounce of satisfaction in his expression. "Excuse me, sir," Eddie said, "Are you David Blaze?" The man smirked. "Maybe." Out of all sudden he turned around and ran to the stairs. "Hey!" Immediately Eddie and Jamie followed him. Jamie was faster than his partner, but Blaze seemed even faster than him. The officer saw him leave the stairs at the second floor where he rushed along the corridor. Jamie realised that Eddie was far behind him but sped up. He turned around the corner the suspect just passed and nearly run into the man. Blaze lifted his hands and Jamie expected a punch, but instead a strange white powder was sprayed in his face. He snorted and tried to grab the guy, but with the substance in his mouth, nose, and eyes, he missed. Jamie reached for the wall to get back his orientation, feeling a little dizzy for a moment. He swiped his face and looked out for Blaze, who had just opened the emergency door and jumped on the fire ladder. Jamie heard Eddie running behind him and started running again. He swung himself on the ladder, but as he reached the bottom and looked around, Blaze was gone.

He shot a look to Eddie. "Around the corner!", she shouted from above and pointed to the house wall. Following the direction, Jamie still didnt see the suspect. He was gone. Panting, Eddie made it to him. "Where the hell did he go?" "No idea." Jamie coughed. "Man, that guy is fast. We better call the department, there is something going on with him. I think he got something to hide." Eddie chuckled. "Never guessed so." she joked. "By the way, what about the flour in your face? You look like you were just baking cookies!" Jamie laughed. "Actually, I dont know what this was about… I nearly ran into him earlier and he threw me this white powder in the face, probably to distract me long enough to escape." They reached the car and decided to wait for their backup. Jamie sat down at a bench next to it. His lungs were sore from the running and his legs felt weak. Catching his breath, he called the department.
