ONE

Happy Endings. For someone with two failed attempts at love like Rui, those words had always seemed so far-fetched. The idea of finally finding someone to cherish for the rest of his life had been bleak to him for a couple of years; with his first love marrying someone else and the girl who had caught his eye back in Eitoku ending up with one of his best friends. He had always thought that maybe he was not cut out for a happy ending.

Until he met Sora.

That one trip to Seoul changed everything for him, he was only there for a month-long exchange program for his MBA at a university in the city when he had stumbled upon her while she was playing her violin at a park inside the university grounds, he had gotten lost at that time then Sora had volunteered to help him find the building where he was supposed to go.

Who knew that meeting was the beginning of his road to finding his happy ending? Definitely not Rui, he was already beginning to be cynical because of his past experiences but unbeknownst to him, everything had begun slowly changing when Sora came into his life.

A slow-paced friendship blossomed into a whirlwind romance, despite the hurdles they had faced together — Sora's mother who didn't approve of their budding romance at first because she had huge hopes for her precious violin prodigy, being separated by thousands of miles away after Rui finished his MBA and had to go back home to Japan so that he could slowly take over the family business while Sora had to go to Switzerland because of a scholarship for a music program offered to her by a prestigious music conservatory there — but surprisingly, the two had managed to survive them all.

And years later, they finally had their happily ever after by getting married at a small chapel somewhere in northern Kyoto with their closest friends and loving family surrounding them. Thank goodness he had gotten lost or else he wouldn't find Sora.

After his meeting with a couple of prospect business partners near the area ended early, here he was, dozing off at the old F4 lounge inside the cafeteria of the high school department waiting for his wife to finish teaching music classes at the elementary department in Eitoku. His nap was suddenly interrupted upon hearing footsteps come up towards where he was. Rui then heard a person muttering to himself, causing him to finally open his eyes.

"Hey, kid, is this your spot?" he asked the younger boy who had a look of surprise on his face upon seeing Rui.

"Huh?"

"It looked like a good place to sleep since my old spot wasn't free," he continued, stretching his arms as he slowly sat up.

"Hanazawa Rui-san?!" The student gasped, he was clad in a customized black Eitoku uniform for boys.

The student knew him? His eyes blinked innocently at the student across from him who was still gaping at him in amazement.

"Do we know each other?"

"Ah! No, this is our first time meeting," the student replied, seemingly excited while talking to Rui, which amused him.

"Huh? But you just said...?" Rui muttered, even more confused.

The student frantically thought of an answer then stood straight, "You're from the legendary F4! And here at Eitoku, people who don't you guys hardly exist!"

"Hmm, is that so?" he hummed, getting up from the couch.

"What are you doing here anyway?" the student asked.

"I was in the area for a meeting and finished early, so I dropped by here to nap for a bit while waiting for my wife," Rui replied, a small smile forming on his lips then quickly hiding it. He looked around the old cafeteria, then down at the tables below. "Somehow, the atmosphere has changed in here huh?" he muttered before walking towards the stairs.

"Uh, please wait, Hanazawa-san!"

He halted when the student called him, "Do you need something, kid?"

The student cleared his throat, seemingly gathering some courage to ask Rui something. "I know it's out of line for me to ask you this seeing as you don't know me all too well, but...at the moment my hands are tied and all these things are getting mixed up and I don't know what's important to me anymore. At a time like this, what do you think Domyouji-san would do?"

He stared at the view out of the cafeteria for a long time before turning back to the student who was eagerly awaiting his answer, "Dunno," Rui replied curtly before proceeding to descend the stairs.

"O-of course..."

Rui turned around again to face the troubled student. "Tsukasa only takes notice of what is important to him, even amongst all the chaos," he stated, hearing the unknown student thank him as he came down the stairs.

A soft smile quickly appeared on his lips upon seeing the familiar figure waiting for him by the exit of the cafeteria, he quickly took her hand into his and held it tightly as they walked out together.

"I'm still amazed at how you can just fall asleep anywhere," Sora teased, swaying their hands a bit. She knew him all too well.

"A very attractive trait of mine, I must say," Rui joked.

"Says you," Sora scoffed in a teasing manner. "I can't believe that I married a real-life sleeping beauty," she added. Rui then chuckled at her response. Sora's sense of humor was one of the things he had always loved the most about her and Rui considered himself lucky, meeting the person that brought joy to his bland and gloomy world.

"Did your meeting end early? I figured that's why you went to the cafeteria to find a spot to sleep in while waiting for me," she asked with curiosity.

Rui nodded, taking her hand to his lips then placing a soft kiss on it. If only his friends could see him right now, the three would definitely tease him to death because of his sweet gestures towards his wife, they also know that he was never that much of a touchy feeling kind of person even with Shizuka, his first love nor during the short time that he was with Tsukushi.

"Are you okay?" she asked him, worry laced in her voice.

"I'm fine, I was just silently thanking my lucky stars for making me get lost back then, or else I wouldn't have been able to meet you. I might have ended up a lonely bachelor with a pending arranged marriage in an alternate ending," Rui replied jokingly. "And I'm lucky to have you by my side," he continued, lacing their fingers together.

The pair stopped in front of Rui's white Porsche, looking both into each other's eyes with loving smiles on both of their lips. Sora, who was holding his hand just a moment ago had already let it go to wrap her arms around her husband's neck and gently stood on her tiptoes to kiss him sweetly on the lips, Rui's smile grew upon feeling her lips on his.

"I'm very lucky to have you too," she murmured after pulling away, with their lips still inches away from each other. "Oh! And, have I told you that I love you?"

Rui pressed their foreheads together, chuckling softly. "You tell me that every day," he mentioned. "And then I tell you that I love you too, every day and will say it for the rest of my life."

For Rui, he had already found the center of his world and his happy ending, the one person whom he will cherish for the rest of his life.
