-3rd person POV-

As Y/N and Caveira walked down to the medical wing with Doc, he explained the procedure required to get them back into their own bodies. Unfortunately, neither one of them were medical professionals, so they had to get Doc to explain in non-medical terms.

"All it is is a stimulus rearrange" he explained as they entered the medical room. Doc stopped in his office, and retuned seconds later with two vials, each one labeled with either Y/N or Caveira's name. "These are the samples I worked with on the diagnostic test" Doc explained.

"And they can repair this?" Y/N asked, pointing back and forth between him and Caveira. Doc shrugged.

"They're a piece of the puzzle" he nodded. "I just have to give the stimulus swapping antibody samples from the viles, and, bada bing bada boom, you're back to normal. Simple as plug n play"

"I hope nothing goes wrong" Caveira muttered, hugging herself. Doc sighed.

"As far as I'm concerned, Caveira, it's all a matter of whether or not your bodies accept the antibody" he spoke, leading the two to a medical procedure room. "Now, just have a seat, and I'll get the antibody ready." Y/N and Caveira nodded, slowly taking seats on the medical chairs in the room. Doc strode over to the desk in the room, opening the viles, and pouring their contents into two separate headgear-like devices.

"So...how's this gonna feel?" Y/N asked as Doc finished setting up the equipment.

"I'd say pretty much like wearing a sporting helmet while exhausted from the big game" Doc summed up his analogy. Y/N huffed.

"So essentially, like a giant spike is being rammed into our heads. Great" he muttered, blowing a raspberry.

"How do you know what that feels like?" Caveira asked, looking over to him, one eyebrow raised. Y/N shrugged.

"I played football in high school. That feeling is all too familiar to me." Caveira nodded, looking back to Doc.

"Ready when you are Doc" she confirmed.

"Just waiting on Ash" Doc spoke, reviewing notes on his clipboard. Both Y/N and Caveira cocked their heads.

"Whats Ash gotta do with this?" Y/N asked. Doc sighed.

"She came in earlier requesting that I give you two a look-over, as she noticed some...odd behaviors-"

"Great. Soon enough, the whole base will know" Y/N muttered. Doc raised an eyebrow at Y/N's comment. Noticing this, Caveira filled him in.

"Some of our friends suspected something was up, and came to talk to us." she spoke. Doc nodded as Caveira continued. "They seemed to suspect that-"

"You two switched bodies" a new voice spoke, finishing Caveira's sentence. The three of them looked to the room's doorway to find Ash standing there, clipboard in hand. Y/N and Caveira shared a look of confusion and worry as they looked back to Ash. Chuckling, Ash spoke up: "Don't worry, you two, no one else knows"

"How'd you find out?" Y/N asked. Ash took a sharp inhale before speaking.

"I kinda pressured and annoyed Doc into telling me" she spoke, quieter than normal. Y/N, from Caveira's body groaned.

"I swear, the day you two don't bicker will be the day pigs fly" he muttered, slumping into his seat. Ash clicked her tongue, then looked up at Doc.

"We ready?" she asked. Doc nodded, handing her one of the headsets, instructing her to strap it onto Y/N. As she did, she spoke to both of them. "We'll have you two back to normal in no time. Hang tight" she said, patting them both on the back. Doc then activated the headsets, which made Y/N and Caveira jump slightly at the sudden vibrations.

"What the hell is this!?" Caveira hissed, glaring daggers at Doc.

"Don't worry Ca-...Y/N, they're just calibrating. Give it a few seconds." he filled in, not looking away from his monitor. As Doc had said, a few seconds later, the vibrations were terminated, replaced by a small hum as the machines finished calibrating. Doc took a deep breath. "Hold onto your butts" he muttered, typing in a command in his keyboard, beginning the procedure. Almost immediately, Y/N and Caveira felt the uncomfortableness of the devices, feeling, to Y/N, just as Doc had described. Instinctively, they grabbed each other's hands, comforting each other. Staying calm, they closed their eyes, allowing the procedure to unfold.

"10% complete" Ash spoke, looking at a small monitoring device in her hand.

"So far so good" Doc cheered internally. He watched as the essence of Y/N and Caveira's conscience slowly began to transfer from each other back into their own bodies.

"20% complete" Ash narrated, making sure the headsets were still working properly. "Guys, give me a thumbs up if you can hear me" she spoke to the two patients. Slowly, Y/N and Caveira gave Ash a thumbs up, indicating they were, for now, okay and conscious.

"They're probably going to loose consciousness as the swap happens" Doc informed, startling the other three in the room.

"W-what?" Y/N asked, already starting to feel lethargic and drowsy. Caveira seemed equally as worried, however, she did a good job of hiding her worry.

"Not to worry. When the procedure is complete, both of you will wake up instantaneously." Doc assured. Y/N nodded as he lay back in the medical chair, grasping Caveira's hand tighter, feeling his own rough but fair skin.

"35% complete. Looking good so far" Ash confirmed as the swap stage began. As Doc explained, both operators promptly passed out, only the sounds of the equipment and her and Doc's rapid breaths and heart rates filled the room. "45%"

"If we hit 70% with out a problem, then it's downhill from there" Doc informed, typing in a quick command to continue the transfer. Ash saw the diagram of the process on her datapad, showing blue essence leaving Caveira's head and green essence leaving Y/N's head. Once both of the essences were fully extracted, she called out: "50% complete". 'Please work please work' she begged in her mind, not wanting to loose two of her best friends.

"Okay, the reentry can get a little bit tricky. Just make sure it's smooth. If it seems at all choppy or all over the place, let me know" Doc informed Ash, which only raised her fear level. She hoped to the heavens that things would go smoothly.

Her prayers landed of deaf ears.

Just as she called out "60% complete", the machines started whirring unusually loudly. Doc seemed very confused with this as well, as he came over, attempting to adjust them, but received a large shock instead, driving up Ash's fear. "Doc get those off them!" she shouted as Doc went back to his monitor.

"I'm gonna try a full system reset" Doc informed, executing the reset command. A few seconds later, nothing changed, and the machines kept going.

"Doc!?" Ash spoke, scared. Doc ran back over to Y/N and Caveira, and undid the chinstraps of the helmets, nearly ripping them off. Carefully, he shook Y/N, trying to wake him, as Ash did the same with Caveira.

"Y/N? Wake up soldier, come on now!" Doc spoke, slightly on edge.

"Cav you better wake your ass up!" Ash almost yelled, shaking Cav rather violently. A thought passed through Doc's mind as he set a still-asleep Y/N down and looked over to Ash.

"What was the completion percentage?" he asked.

"What?" Ash asked back, choking up.

"The percentage just before I took the headsets off" Doc filled in. Ash nodded, pulling up the data on her datapad. She covered her open mouth with her hand, and looked up at Doc.

"100%" she spoke. "It was complete shortly before you took the headsets off"

"So why aren't they waking?" he asked, nervous. Sighing, he took both of their pulses from multiple areas, and came to the conclusion that Caveira was weak. Y/N, on the other hand, there was nothing Doc could do.

"Mmmm" Caveira mumbled, slowly waking up. Ash cheered in delight, bear hugging her friend. "A-Ash! Tight!" she gasped. Ash released her, and she took a deep breath, accepting the new wave of air.

"Is it you?" Ash asked.

"Yes, idiota, it's me. Doc's procedure worked" Caveira smirked.

"...about that" Doc spoke softly. Ash and Caveira looked at him confused, and that's when Caveira looked over at Y/N, seeing him motionless on the medical chair. Immediately, her eyes watered up, and she hugged his body tightly, not letting go.

"W...what happened!?" she demanded, not looking at anyone, but instead burying her head into his chest.

"Unknown" Doc spoke, resting his hand on Caveira's shoulder. "Cav I-I'm so sorry" he spoke, sounding hurt. Caveira took a shaky breath and nodded.

"It's not your fault" she cried, hugging her Y/N tighter, not letting him go.

-Caveira POV-

I jolted upright in bed, breathing heavy, rapid breaths. I felt very hot and sweaty. Am I hyperventilating? I hope not. I quickly try to calm myself down. 'Its was just a dream' I internally cheered. 'None of that happened!'

"Babe?" I heard someone mumble from next to me. I look over and see Y/N snuggled into me, sitting up and rubbing his eyes. I tear up, and crush him in a hug, confirming for myself that he was still here. I began crying into his chest, to which he responded by hugging me back. "Cavy, what's wrong?"

"I...I had a bad dream" I mumbled, sniffling. He didn't speak a word for a little while. He just sat there, comforting me, letting me know that he was still here.

"Whatever it was, it was only a dream" he reassured. I took a deep breath, and nodded.

"It felt so real, I-" I choked up. I just ended up hugging him tighter. "Never leave me"

"I don't plan on it" he assured, rubbing small circles into my back. I melt into the hug, loving the feeling. "Should we try to get back to sleep, my little assassin?"

"Mmmmmm what time is it?" I get out.

"Ummm 02:30" I yawned and nodded.

"Definitely go back to sleep". He smiled, and pulled me down next to him, bringing the covers back over us. He feel asleep almost instantly. I ended up taking a bit of time to recollect myself. 'It was only a dream Caveira' I told myself. 'None of it was real'. I was about to close my eyes when they came to rest on something. I sat upright once again as my heart rate increased, and my mind raced. 'Was it real?' I asked myself.

Sitting in the upper corner of my room was my knife, still imbedded in the wall.

Hope y'all enjoyed this installment of this series! Due to this story being seriously popular, I plan on making a "part 2" sort of story in the future so look out for that! Anyway, peace!
