Chapter 6: A Happy Ending After All!

Garfield and Odie make their way back to the mainland. The former still in immense pain from the attack.

"Ow!" Garfield yelped. "My back!" Odie whimpers in concern.

"Don't worry about me, Odie." Garfield insisted. "I'll be fine. I just need a really long rest, preferably with some candy." He laments the loss of his well-earned treats.

"The old man was right, Odie." Garfield sighed. "This was the worst night of my entire life. Even worse than when we were trapped in the pound. Hell, I've had nightmares that look like birthday parties compared to tonight."

During Garfield's rambling, Odie spots something from a distance. He taps Garfield's shoulder to get his attention. Garfield gasps when he finds their own type of treasure.

The boat with their sacks full of candy!

"Well looky here! It do be me candy, Arrrrrrrr!" Garfield said in his Orange Beard voice. "I guess this story do have a happy ending after all, matey! Let's be shoven' off fer home now!"

Odie barks in agreement. The two grab their sacks and make their way home.

"So the pirate ghosts got the treasure, and we got the candy, candy, candy, candy!" Garfield said.

Later...

The two trick-or-treaters finally arrive back at Jon's house.

"Jon is never going to believe what happened to us tonight." Garfield said. "He probably thinks we were out singing on the fence again. Wait till he sees all this candy."

The pets approach the front door.

"Have we got a surprise for him!" Garfield anticipated.

"Oh, I got a surprise for you, alright!"

Garfield and Odie turn around and find an angry Sonja with her arms crossed.

"Uhhhhh…..Hi Mom!" Garfield nervously greeted. "Nice weather today, isn't-"

"Save it, Garfield!" Sonja scolded. "Where have you boys been? I've been searching all over town for you!"

"I can explain, mom." Garfield said. "We were attacked by pirate ghosts and-"

"Really, Garfield!?" Sonja interrupted. "Pirate ghosts!? And you honestly expect me to believe this crap!?" She further scolded her son for trying to excuse himself.

"But it's true!" Garfield insisted. "Look, let's just bring our candy inside and we'll just talk about this, ok?" He grabs the doorknob and opens it…

THE PIRATE GHOSTS EMERGE FROM THE ENTRANCE!

"ARRRRGGGGHHHH!" The three animals scream like little girls and climb up a tree. The ghosts surround the tree, trapping them on the branch.

"Holy crap! Pirate ghosts!" Sonja shouted in disbelief. "You were right, Garfield!"

"But I still don't get it! Why us!? Why don't they just leave us alone! They got their stupid treasure! I can't figure it out!" Garfield shouted.

Odie notices something peculiar on Garfield's finger. He taps Garfield's shoulder.

"What is it, Odie?" Garfield asked. Odie points at the ring on his finger.

"Nice ring, huh?" Garfield said.

"The ring! Of course! They came for the ring! You have to give it to them, Garfield!" Sonja instructed.

"But I don't want to get rid of it!" Garfield whined.

"Just do it!" His mother demanded.

"Fine." Garfield sighed. He takes the ring off his finger and drops it. The ghost catches the ring and all of them magically poof away.

"Phew." The three sighed in relief.

Sonja and Odie help Garfield come inside the house and place him on his bed.

"Ow!" Garfield's back still hurts.

"Oh, my baby. You've got to be more careful." Sonja said while gently rubbing his back.

"I know. I'll be more careful next time." Garfield reassured.

"I'm sorry for not believing you earlier, Garfield." Sonja apologizes.

"It's no big deal. The pirates got what they wanted, and I got all the candy, candy, candy, candy-" Garfield stands up and shows off both his sacks of candy, but his back gives up on him again.

"Ow!" The injured cat moans in pain.

"Well, we'll leave you to enjoy your candy, Garfield." Sonja said. "C'mon, Odie." They both start to walk away.

"Wait. I want to talk to Odie." Garfield said.

Sonja and Odie walk back to him.

"Odie, I'm about to do something that is totally out of character for me. But seeing as how you saved my ass about eighteen zillion times tonight, I want to give you something. Something of great personal worth. Something that represents a great personal sacrifice on my part." The cat takes a deep sigh.

Garfield gives Odie one of his candy sacks. "Here's your half of the candy."

Both Odie and Sonja gasp in shock. Garfield, the cat known to never ever share his food with anyone, giving someone half of his food!? This is truly unheard of.

Odie, touched by Garfield's kindness, engulfs him with a tight and loving embrace.

"Yeah, I love you too. Now let go of me." Garfield said. Odie lets go and takes his share of the candy.

"Garfield." Sonja said in astonishment. "That is the sweetest thing I've ever seen you do."

"What can I say, mom? He did save my life, after all." Garfield said.

Sonja hugs Garfield tightly. "I'm so proud of you." She whispers in his ear before releasing the hug.

"Thanks, mom." Garfield smiled.

"I gotta get going now." Sonja kisses Garfield on the cheek. "Love you."

"Love you too, mom." Garfield said as she leaves the house.

"What a night." Garfield said to himself.

"Boy, am I wired." Garfield picks up his mini TV remote. "I think I'll see what's on TV."

He turns on his miniature TV...and sees the old man on the screen, wearing his pirate hat.

"Good evening, and welcome to our all night pirate movie festival." The old man proudly announced.

Garfield turns off the TV.

"On second thought, maybe I've had enough TV for one night." Garfield said. "Right, Pooky?" He picks up his teddy bear.

"Boy, am I tired." Garfield said as he cuddles Pooky and lays down. He lets out one last pirate sound before drifting away to sleep.

"Arrrrrr..."

The End!
