{I've forgotten all about how this site doesn't let you double space your paragraphs. I've cleaned up the Prologue yesterday by spacing out the lines. Hopefully it's easier for you to read, but if not, please let me know so I can make it as visualizing appealing as possible. I'm planning a total of 32 chapters, which includes a Prologue, Epilogue, and 30 main chapters, which will be called "Days" to fit more with the source material.}

On a quiet summer morning, a red onion could be seen high up in the air, as it slowly descended towards the surface. More specifically, towards one of the square holes of a concrete block, that was filled to the brim with dirt. Eventually, the onion managed to land perfectly, right in the dead center of a circle, a circle of red Pikmin sprouts.

"Hey, wake up man!"

"Ugh, what is it?"

"You have an early morning shift today. Hurry and get up!"

Henry opened his eyes, and breathed in a heavy sigh. Of course he would be 'lucky' enough to be chosen as a scout today. He swore that every Pikmin ranked above him hated his guts. As he pushed his fellow sleeping comrades aside, he jumped onto the closest pole, and slid his way down out of the onion. The sun had just started to rise, it had to be close to 5:45 in the morning. Henry wasn't the only one rubbing his eyes or yawning. It seemed everyone was still tired, everyone except the 'lucky' captain who was chosen for today's early morning patrol.

"Good morning men! I hoped you had a good nights rest, because it's time to start the day!"

At this point, everybody was either stretching or doing some kind of exercise, like jumping jacks. Everybody except me of course, I continued to yawn and rub my eyes. I watched the sprouts behind me as the captain took attendance. If they knew what they had in store for them once they plucked themselves out of the ground, they would most likely try to stay underground as long as possible.

"Alright, everybody move out! Report back here at exactly 6:30!"

Finally, I could separate myself from the demanding captain and take a nice quiet morning stroll. Early morning patrol was easy enough, simply report back if you found a dangerous, creature nearby. After all the scouts made it to ground level, thanks to a dirt hill formed on the side of the concrete, we went our separate ways. The next 30 minutes or so consisted of small pebbles being kicked, and occasionally doing my job properly. I couldn't help not taking it seriously, we lived on an arid scrubland, booby trapped with hundreds of fire geysers. No creature would want to hunt here, no creature except one. Next thing I knew, something was moving inside the dead tall grass behind me. Still bored out of my mind, I raised my arms to my sides, as if I was about to give someone a hug.

"Come and get me, you big fella!"

A jet of fire shot out from inside the dead grass. As the grass went up in flames, the creature was revealed to be a fiery blowhog. While this beast is feared by many other types of Pikmin, the fiery blowhog is no threat to the fire immune red Pikmin. The blowhog, realizing it wasted some of its juice, walks away back into some other dead grass.

"Thanks for waking me up buddy!" I shouted back. Just because we are immune to fire doesn't mean it feels comfortable. It's kinda itchy in a way.

By 6:40, more early bird workers were starting to slide down the onion's poles. I happened to take a longer detour, so I ended up being 10 minutes late.

"Where have you been! I said come back at exactly 6:30! Why are you late?"

"Sorry, I got lost." My usual excuse.

"Lost again huh, if you're late one more time, you can expect early morning patrol everyday for the rest of the year! This is your last warning!"

Wonderful, how could this day get any worse. I'll tell you how, despite having to wake up super early, morning patrol is probably the easiest job I'll have today. The rest of the day mostly consists of carrying pellets, blowhog corpses, and eggs full of nectar back to the base. Then once we get closer to noon, the temperature will rise up to an unpleasant level. Arid scrublands aren't typically known for warm or cool temperatures. The main reason I'm always in a bad mood though, is the captains. Despite all the hard work we go through everyday, deep down we are lazy creatures. The captains will usually lay on their side next to a pile of nectar eggs. The only skill these guys bring to the tribe is criticizing everyone underneath them, and telling them how much they suck or whatever.

"That kid was 10 minutes late, talk about a disgrace to the tribe."

"I was lost sir, (← Mocking voice) geez, how difficult is it to find a red onion sitting on a tall cement block. Seriously a big disgrace if I've ever seen one."

I swear if these guys didn't hate my guts, I would instantly become one of them, because we both seem to be professional complainers. The only difference is the reason we complain. I mean, I'm the one having to carry heavy objects up a steep dirt hill, while they get to complain as they relax.

By the time it was noon, the temperature was starting to reach its torrid state for the day. This thankfully brought one piece of good news though, lunch time! The only time a Pikmin gets a break these days, well I guess besides sleeping at night, but you get what I'm saying. Everybody will basically report back to base and line up. The captains will then hand out one nectar egg per Pikmin. Nectar was like a new pair of fully charged Pikmin batteries. Its what kept us going for the second half of the day. While most of my co-workers liked to eat together as a group on the dirt hill, I preferred to eat alone next to the onion, resting my back on one of the poles. Everybody else would usually finish their nectar in seconds, and go right back to work. I on the other hand, preferred to take my time, we were allowed a maximum of 15 minutes after all. However, before I could even crack open my egg, somebody was rushing towards the group of captains, in a panic like state.

"Come quick! Something strange just landed close by!"

"What! Show me immediately!"

I watched as the captains ran towards the hill, and to my surprise, it was the first time I ever heard them shocked.

"Is that what I think it is?"

Ok, now they got me curious. While still carrying my egg, I made my way over to the hill so I could see what the fuss was all about. I noticed something small and pink laying face down on the dirt 40 feet away from our base. (Keep in mind 40 feet is pretty large for us Pikmin.) After some squinting, I noticed a flower bud was growing from the top of its head. There was no doubt this was a Pikmin. Everyone who noticed just seemed to watch. No one moved a muscle. Then, after one of the fire geysers went off, I heard a distant scream and saw it try to crawl away. Then it hit me. As a red Pikmin, I was so use to fire I never thought twice about it. However, for a Pikmin who isn't immune to fire, that's probably a pretty scary position to be in. Even worse, that scream could easily attract some fiery blowhogs, which I doubt a tiny crawl like that could avoid. Once these thoughts were processed, I ran over to help it out.

"What in the world are you doing?"

I ignored the captains, they didn't seem to realize just how much trouble the pink Pikmin was in. I don't know why I still held onto my egg as I sprinted, but once I got a closer look, I was glad I had it. This Pikmin was absolutely exhausted. It could barely crawl away, its wings couldn't move an inch to avoid the flames, and the sweat on its body didn't seem to come from the heat. I don't think it even noticed me when I arrived. I smashed opened my egg, and poured the nectar right next to its face.

"Are you ok? Here, have some of this nectar."

No words came out from the Pikmin, but it did start drinking the nectar. After it finished, it became silent for about 10 seconds, before…

"Thanks, I really needed that."

"What in the world are you doing out here in the arid scrublands? We need to hurry back to my base, before some fiery blowhogs find you."

"How far away is it?"

"40 feet behind me."

I turned to point towards the red onion. I noticed the captains were still watching both of us, it seemed nobody else was coming to make sure everything was ok. I stared back in disbelief, until the pink Pikmin uttered another sentence towards me.

"Please tell me, who has saved my life?"

"You asking for my name?"

"Yes, of course."

"Henry, my name is Henry."

The pink Pikmin had started to get up from off the ground. It seemed the nectar was doing its magic. Eventually, it was up in the air again, flapping its wings.

"Mine is Ellie, I've been flying towards your base since last night."

"Last night! You mean you've been on the planet's surface after dusk!"

"Sorry, its a long story, do you mind if I rest at your base first."

"Oh, of course."

Probably wasn't the best idea to spend more time out here anyways, I almost forgot the possibility of a fiery blowhog finding her. By the time we made back to the dirt hill, the captains were still shocked.

"What in the world is going on? Explain yourself!"

"My name is Ellie, I come from the wing Pikmin tribe south of here."

"What business do you have with us?"

"I come with some shocking news, but please understand, I'm very tired right now. Could I sleep in your onion real quick?"

It took awhile for the captains to decided, but they figured since nobody else was in the onion anyways, might as well let her sleep. Besides, it didn't take a genius to figure out she was beyond exhausted from her trip. After I watched her climb up inside the onion, I was ordered to go back to work. However, it was impossible to concentrate. What exactly did she mean by 'since last night'? For once I carried various goodies as fast as I could, so that way I had more opportunities to see if she was outside the onion yet. After what felt like hours, I finally caught her talking with a small group of leaders, not just any leaders though, the top of the top leaders. However, the other captains patrolled the base, pushing curious workers away from their conversation. Lucky, their patrol mostly consisted of guarding next to the dirt hill, while she was talking with the leaders on the opposite side. All I had to do was sneak around the concrete block, and listen from below. Even better, there was a perfect patch of dead shrub I could hide inside as I listened. I must of missed quite a lot, because the leaders spoke up by the time I could hear what was going on.

"We humbly decline, we're too busy to even consider helping out another tribe."

"Please sir, don't you understand the pain I'm feeling."

"We have politely let you sleep in the onion, but we now request that you leave."

"But…"

"Listen, no one here is interested in joining you on your journey."

"Can't I ask around…"

"Please leave now!"

Journey? Pain she is feeling? What in the world was going on? Even though I didn't know much about what they were talking about, I did know one thing.

"I'm interested!" I yelled as loud as I could.

Day after day of mind-numbing work, all for the captains that didn't care about me one bit. I was ready for something else. I needed a break, and here was my opportunity. Whatever she was doing, would no doubt be more exciting then my current life. Next thing I knew, Ellie had flown down into the shrub to pick me up. She then carried me high up into the air, and brought me to the top of the concrete block. The leaders looked furious. They looked so angry, I wouldn't be shocked if fire starting burning on their flower stems.

"What did you just say? Interested in what?"

Truthfully, I was a bit scared, but I stood my ground.

"I'm interested in traveling on Ellie's journey."

"How do you know my name? Wait... Henry!"

"Henry huh! Of course it's Henry. Now I'm not surprised."

"I don't think that's a good idea Henry, you'll just end up helping her get lost."

The surrounding captains, who have noticed to commotion by now, started to laugh.

"I already warned you today boy! You're in a heap of trouble!"

"I'm always in trouble, and I'm tired of it! All I'm requesting is one break. Let me help her out, then I'll come right back to take any form of punishment you can think of."

At this point they looked shocked, it seemed they thought I was joking the whole time.

"Henry, if you dare to leave with her, you can NEVER come back."

That threat, was what helped me choose my final decision.

"Traitor!"

"How dare you abandon the tribe!"

"To think I was born in the same soil as you!"

"You're a disgrace to our family!"

"Don't ever come back, you selfish loser!"

These were just some of the comments we heard from the captains below, as Ellie flew away towards a forest visible from the North. I knew she was still exhausted from her previous flight, but I recommended she fly anyways, so we wouldn't have to worry about the geysers or fiery blowhogs. She didn't seem to object, after all, she probably feels more comfortable high up in the air anyways. I don't blame her either, I was of course being carried alongside with her, so I was also able to enjoy the same view as her. It felt like I was finally witnessing freedom, since I've always had to work at a close radius from the onion, I never truly got to see just how big the scrubland was. Looking straight down was still pretty scary though, the thought of her blacking out from exhaustion, causing us to fall to our death wasn't helping either. However, as we flew farther away from the red onion, my old co-workers from the surface below didn't seem to be angry with me, but rather confused and shocked. I knew they didn't know about my resignation just yet, but what exactly was so abnormal? Then it hit me, these poor souls were working so hard, they didn't even notice or realize a pink Pikmin happened to stumble at their home. While I was busy complaining about the lazy leaders inside my head everyday, I seemed to have forgotten about the dedication my old co-workers had, and their pride to be a part of the team. Perhaps my suspension from the group was for the best, since I never seemed to share those same traits. Maybe, I really was selfish, since I would always dread and complain each passing day, instead of doing my best to improve the future for the group. As I pondered these thoughts, Ellie broke the silence.

"Man, I sure am glad I have someone else like you to come along on this journey. The only other Pikmin group I knew about was yours. Do you happen to know where another one is located?"

"Actually yes, at least I believe so. I've heard the Rock Pikmin live inside the very forest you're currently heading towards."

"The Rock Pikmin! Really? Thank goodness, they're just the Pikmin I'm looking for to join my army."

"Pardon me for asking, but I never actually got to hear about why you're looking for a Pikmin army. What happened between you and your tribe? Did you get removed from the group just like me?"

"Whoops, apologies for not explaining my objective earlier, you are part of my team now after all."

By this point in time, we had flown far enough away from the onion, to the point where there were no more workers below us. When she finished explaining her story, the sky was starting to lose its blueish color, as the sun started to set. Apparently, she was looking for a group of Pikmin to help her fight back against some unknown creatures, who had blown up her tribe to extinction. The scariest part of the story was definitely their laughter that followed the massacre.

"You know what this could mean right?" I started to say after she finished her entire story. "The only creature I know that can laugh, are fellow Pikmin."

"That's what I'm worried about, maybe one of the tribes decided to sneak attack my group, but I can't think of any motives or reasons why."

"Yeah me neither, as Pikmin tribes, we haven't seen each other for decades, so its not like you did something to make them hate you. Plus, from what I've learned, that day when all the Pikmin split up, it was apparently very peaceful."

"Yeah, you're right about that. There's no way one of the seven tribes would try an attack one another."

"You think maybe it's possible, that there's another tribe we don't know about out there, one that feels threaten by our existence, or just wants to prove they have the power over all the other tribes?"

"It's certainly possible, regardless, we need to be very careful about who we trust."

"Are you sure you trust me." I joked. She returned with a laugh, this was the first time I've seen her happy.

"You were the only one that came to rescue me earlier today, that's enough proof for me that you're a good guy. Plus, I disagree with your leaders that you're selfish, you gave up your nectar as well to help me fill up on energy, so don't feel guilty ok."

With a complement like that, how could I not join in on her happiness. It felt like we started becoming good friends, despite meeting on the exact same day.

For someone who was able to fly all the way to the arid scrublands, from her home, in a single day no less, it was no surprise that we made it to the edge of the forest before the sunlight disappeared. After we landed, I turned around for one last look of my old home. To be honest, even though they seemed to hate me all the time, I never expected them to ban me from the tribe. I knew Pikmin took their duties to the tribe seriously, but nobody informed me about the strict punishment of being kicked out.

"Are you nervous?" Ellie asked, as the red onion from far away started to ignite a bright orange light.

"To be honest, absolutely."

The onion started to take off, I watched it fly higher and higher into space, until it wasn't visible anymore.

"But for the longest time, I've been dying to do something more meaningful, with more purpose. For the first time in awhile, I feel alive, the excitement I feel easily trumps the nervousness, to the point where I'm wondering why I'm nervous in the first place."

"Well for starters, none of us will ever see our families again, and…"

By this point, the sun was completely gone. Light could still be seen coming from the geysers, but I never expected that the outside world could be capable of such darkness. The darkness kinda reminded me of the onion, the inside of it anyways. While it was always too dark in there to see who was kicking you in face while you tried to sleep, it provided the comfort and safety our natural instincts desired. Sleeping in the onion was the only time and place where our ancestors truly felt safe from the dangerous surface. It was at this moment when I realized, for the price of freedom, I gave away my right to a safe and secure home.

"Come on Henry, we better find a place to sleep."

"Have you ever slept on the surface before?"

"No, remember I didn't rest at all during my trip to your scrubland."

It seemed we were both new at this. If we chose poorly, we might wake up as a tasty meal inside some hungry creature. Whats worse, since I've spent my whole life on the scrubland, I've never even encountered any other creatures besides fiery blowhogs, so I didn't know what to do or expect if I ever found myself facing one. The tales of bulborbs and wollywogs still frighten me to this day, and now there was a chance, where I could end up in the same situation as the poor victims who have died to these foul beasts. Death, wasn't something I ever considered, thought of, or realized, until today. My excitement for adventure and freedom vanished at this moment. I wasn't nervous either, I was horrified. Reality was finally starting to seep inside me. What in the world was I thinking, leaving my home like that, and now I can't ever go back, even if I beg for forgiveness. The daily nectar portions, the comfort of the onion, the community I grew up with, it would be gone forever.

"Hey Henry, check this out!"

"Shh, we don't want to attract trouble."

"What the… you seem different all the sudden. You ok?"

I didn't realize it until Ellie pointed it out, but my body language appeared to be in a paranoid state. I was constantly shaking and checking our surroundings. I took a deep breath to prevent myself from freaking her out.

"I'm fine, the lack of sun is starting to get to me."

"I understand, when I was flying alone last night, that was the scariest day in my life."

"Can I ask why you aren't scared right now?"

"Simple, because I'm not alone this time. When I have you as a friend with me, not only do I feel more brave, but I feel like it will be easier to survive through out the night if we're in this together."

"You… think of me as a friend?"

"Oh course, I thought we've been getting along great. Should I label us as acquaintances instead?"

"No that's ok, I'm fine being friends."

"Sweet, then how about we have a sleepover under this tree, to celebrate our friendship."

It seemed this was what she wanted to talk about, before I shushed her. One of the trees seemed to have a huge hole next to it. The hole seemed to contain a tunnel that lead to a small room under the tree, almost like something was trying to dig into its roots. Even though the hole was big, it wasn't big enough for any giant creatures to fit inside, plus the roots could also provide us some protection, at least I hoped so. After we climbed inside, there was barely any room to rest, thanks to the all the roots, but somehow we both manged to find semi-comfortable spots to sleep. I tried to think of something to talk about, but it seemed like she was already asleep. She must have been hiding just how exhausted she was to make sure I didn't worry too much. She certainly was dedicated, but then again she was after revenge, so it made sense. It seemed every Pikmin I knew always tried their hardest, regardless of how difficult the task at hand was. Was I the only Pikmin who wasn't? Even though the captains were the definition of lazy, they still made sure each and every Pikmin worked hard and followed their rules and orders, so its not like they weren't dedicated. Before I could think more of hard working Pikmin or dedication any further, I fell into slumber.
