The Ferryman

I've seen you before.

Once, ten and five years ago, I saw you. Warriors. Heroes. Rogues. Monsters. I saw you. I ferried you down the river to Wortham. Down cold water whose taste was bitter, not yet choked by ash. Deposited you on the shores of Hell, so that you may save the world from being consumed by the tide.

I've seen you before.

Heroes five then, heroes five now. Five and five at the start of their journey, five and five unable to see the end. For what end is there for the journey of this world? Marching forward from a crumbling past, unable to turn away from oblivion. Tell me heroes, if this time you dare speak, for so often are you silent. What future?

I've seen you before.

Wortham is burning this time. A star fell upon the earth, and the land has been darkened by its light. I fear that the fires will spread. I fear that the waters of the world will become thick with blood and ash, as already this river is. I fear destruction, I fear hatred, I fear the terror that comes from both. I fear, as I reach the docks of Wortham, that I shall not see your kind again.

Heroes...

I've seen you before.

A/N

So, fun little nugget, the ferryman NPC from Diablo III returns in Diablo Immortal, fulfilling the same function. Somehow that lead to me drabbling this up.
