"YOU ARE WORTHLESS!" A voice screamed in the darkness. Grayson stood motionless in the middle of nowhere, darkness surrounded him. However, to him it didn't feel like the darkness of night, but the darkness you feel when their is nothing. Nothing but an empty void that surrounds your mind and every thought. A darkness that terrified him. A darkness that corrupts his mind and body. He was stuck.

"Nothing more than a drowning bird!" The disembodied voice screamed out once more. This voice drew Dick out of his thoughts as he search into the void.

"Who are you!" Dick yelled in hope of answers. Silence followed for what seemed like ages. This silence made Dick's heart pound in his chest.

"Who am I"? the voice finally echoed back. "Who are you to stand here and ask questions. When all you do is..." Dick couldn't quite hear what he said. What did he do? Better yet, what is going on? The last thing he remembers is... I don't remember the last thing I did... Dick's eyes widened. How did he get here?

"I sense your fear. Your confusion." Dick spun around searching for the source. Still he found nothing but a dark void.

"What do u want from me?!" Dick spoke loudly demanding answers.

"I want you to see your fears. I want you to be consumed by your anger." The voice half growled. "Wake up!" Something interruped starteling Dick. "TO REALITY." The voice continued more harshly as if hissing at the intruder. "FOOL!"

At that Dick face contorted in confusion. It's almost like he is not talking to him now. The booming voice kept talking and spitting insults, but they seemingly became farther and farther away until complete silence. A sharp ringing took its place. Dick quickly grabbed his head covering his ears as the sound seem to break through his skull . "What is this?!" He thought to himself as the pain over took him.

"Ahhhhhhgggggggg!"

"Ahhhhhhgggggggg!"

Dick sprang from the floor. Wait floor? What happened? Where am I? The ringing stopped and a new sound took its place. A quiet bird chirped outside a window, as if nothing wrong could ever happen. He blinked away any darkness that remained and leaned against a bed. Bed? I know this bed. Was this all a dream? The mission, the two strangers, and.. the void just... a dream?

"Master Dick." a gentle, soft voice spoke from the door way. Dick froze, "It can't be, can it?" he pondered as he slowly turn to face the man standing behind him. His young eyes met with a much older man who stood tall and proud with a small amount of worry on his face.

"Are you ok, sir?" the man asked with concern lacing his tone.

"Alfred?" Dick questioned afraid everything might slip away once more.

Alfred raised an eye brow. " Last time I checked, sir, that was my name. I heard a shout from downstairs and came to check on you." Alfred watched as Dick sat in his bed seeming to consider his answer.

"I...I am fine." Alfred did not look convinced, but knew better then to argue with him. Alfred then nodded hesitantly and turned to exit. "Alfred." Dick spoke horsly. Pausing in the door Alfred turned once more to face the young man.

"Is.. everyone ok?" Dick asked half afraid of the answer. Alfred looked at him wondering what he meant.

"I don't know who you are referring, sir" The older man walked over and came to a halt next to Dick. Clearing his throat, Dick spoke once again.

"Jason, Damian, and the others?" Alfred then sat next to him a look of sadness crossed his face.

"Master Dick.. they.. it must have been a terrible dream, sir." Alfred sighed. Dick turned his head slowly to look at the older man.

"What does.." Dick started to speak, but Alfred continued.

"But.." Alfred started while putting his hand on Grayson's knee. "Remember the accident a few years ago?" What accident? What is he talking about? "Master Bruce and the others...are.. gone.

"Gone, Gone, Gone, Gone." the empty words pounded in his mind like a drum. Gone, what does gone mean? Dead? They can't be dead what happened? AHHHH Nothing makes sense! Dick turned to Alfred once again, however, the butler no longer sat there. In fact the whole room started to diminish into darkness. In a.. void.

"NO, NONONONO." Dick said repeatedly as he backed away from the darkness. His back hit the wall as darkness surrounded him once again. He stuck his head under his arms as if he could hide from this. And, for the first time in a long time... he cried.

Sitting in the darkness alone he cried out in anguish.

"I DON'T KNOW WHAT'S REAL!"
