Logan rolled over and held his hand over his eyes to combat the sun's glare. He looked around at everyone still asleep in the rundown room they were camping in. His eyes darted to the canteen and reached for it. He took off the cap and held it up to his mouth while he lightly smacked the bottom of it to get the little that remained. Logan coughed sitting up and picked up his weapons as he proceeded to leave the room and be the lookout until everyone else got up.

A few minutes later he saw Nico emerge from the room eating an apple, the last piece of rations.

"Morning," Logan said.

"Can't help, but notice you didn't include the good part," Nico remarked.

"Well, I'm sorry that since over three-quarters of our food and water supply was traded to Bandits by Maren that I'm not too enthusiastic about beginning a new day," Logan replied, "Not to mention the fact that we're still letting that bitch stay."

"Dude believe me I get it," Nico argued, "But we can't just kick her out and leave her for dead."
Logan looked at him and said, "I told Anne and Bethany my suspicions and they agreed, but when the bandits started showing up and killed all of our parents we focused on them and not how Maren always disappeared and how she let Lukas be killed!"

Nico's expression changed to one of sorrow as he remembered Lukas' death.

"I bet you'd be singing a different tune if she got Bethany killed," Logan scowled.

"I don't know if you realize, but you've really become an ass lately," Nico remarked.

'We have nowhere to go!" Logan replied, "We're out of food and water! How can you and everyone else be so calm about this?"

"You think I'm calm!?" Nico scowled, "We're trying to stay focused and find something!"

The others emerged with what little they had in backpacks ready to go.

"Let's go," Anne said.

Henry sighed looking at his pocket watch the last thing he had from his family and followed Anne while Nico finished the apple and followed the rest with Logan and the rest trailing behind.

"We should reach the highway in two hours or so," Bethany said, putting away the map.

Anne and Hazel had Maren tied up in a rope they had managed to find in the house they spent the night at.
"Guys c'mon I swear it wasn't me," Maren sobbed.

"You can lie all day it's not going to do shit in terms of setting you free," Mary told her.

The gang came across a river and stopped.

"Alright, so I assume we're going to cross Bethany?" Anne asked.

"Yeah," Bethany replied.

They noticed a raft with supplies stuck on rocks a little further up the river.

"Holy shit," Logan gasped.

Everyone bolted up to the raft laughing and crying with joy as they did. They arrived at the raft to notice crates of food and bottled water. Logan took a crate and set it on the ground so they could eat.

"We're saved guys," Logan chuckled, taking a bite of an apple.

"Now all we have to do is find somewhere safe and plant the seeds in the fruit," Mary rejoiced.

"Hey, guys can I get some food?" Maren asked.

Everyone's joyful and relieved expressions turned to anger and disgust as they heard her.

"You don't get any of this shit," Hazel told her.

"I'm alive, I'm human, I need to eat too," Maren argued.

"If you had even the slightest bit of human compassion or care for others you wouldn't have given all our shit to the bandits," Mary scowled.

"It was a mistake! I swear it was a mistake," Maren pleaded.

"Everyone is fed up with your bullshit Maren," Nico replied, "I think Logan might be right about kicking you out."

Logan smiled at Nico before taking another bite of an apple.

"Alright guys let's get moving," Anne said.

Logan, Nico, Henry, and Mary pushed the raft with Maren, Anne, Hazel, and Bethany on it to the other side. They then packed as much food and water as they could into their bags and continued their trek.

An hour later they came across a stream that branched from the river which had fishing traps and a shack right next to it.

"Think we found a camp for the night," Bethany said.

They all chuckled and hugged as they started to believe things were finally looking up.

"Alright, I suppose Logan, Anne, Mary, and I should do some scouting to see if the perimeters clear," Nico said.

"Alright Logan let's go north then come back and go west, Anne and Mary you two are going south and then east.

Logan and Nico took out their knives and went north looking for walkers or people.

"Nico I just want to say I'm sorry about earlier," Logan said.

"Dude it's fine I get it you were stressed we didn't have supplies it's fine and let's be honest Henry and Bethany probably didn't make it easy for you," Nico replied.

"Wait, is that a gravel trail?" Logan asked.

"It is, but dude there were trails in the woods before the apocalypse it probably was a hiking trail," Nico pointed out.

"But notice how there aren't any trees right next to it or branches," Logan replied, "It looks like a car could fit here."

Nico heard a rustling and turned his head and asked, "Did you hear that?"

"Dude it's fine the wind is nothing new," Logan responded.

They had gone further than they thought in that short time as they had talked and sped up out of fear for walkers catching up to them in case they were too slow.

"Wait what time is it?" Logan asked.

"Probably around eight-thirty am we left pretty early," Nico replied, "Personally I think we should try to make it towards the highway."
"Dude we don't know when the next time is that we'll have a roof over our heads we can afford to take a siesta," Logan told him.

Logan accidentally stepped in a hunting snare and was hanging from a rope while Nico had no time to react and was knocked out from a fast blow to the head by the handle of Logan's knife.

"Oh shit," Logan gasped.
