Prologue: the beginning

The story begins with a crow with a deeply red scar on it's right eye flying above the city of California seemingly flying by the hospital. At the hospital, Drew Pickles, who is holding one of his daughters, who is wrapped in a purple blanket, in his arms, and a nurse push open the delivery room doors while the nurse is pushing Charlotte out of the room with their other daughter, who is wrapped in a pink blanket, in her arms. You would think for someone who just give birth to two twin daughters would be either exhausted or at least looking at her daughters with a motherly smile. However, Charlotte is seems to be more fixated on talking to her associates, Jonathan, on her phone.

"They're twin girls, Jonathan! Their names are, uh..." Charlotte paused as she doesn't remember the names of her daughters.

"Angelica and Davina!" Drew whispers to his wife.

"Angelica and Davina! What? No, don't be silly, of course I'll be back in the office, tomorrow! You can look forward to it!" She said before ending the call.

They made it to the waiting room where they see Lou, Stu, and Didi, waiting there. Lou hit his hearing aid to get it to work, Stu is holding a box of It's a Girl! Brand cookies, and his wife Didi is reading from a New Parent magazine. She reaches into Stu's box and pulls out a cookie, then she sees her in-laws approaching with the nurse and the newborn babies and stands up to greet them.

"Oh, Charlotte, they're beautiful!" Didi said.

The baby in the pink blanket looks up at the cookie that Didi has and coos as she reaches for it. Unfortunately, her aunty pulls it away from her. "No! You're too young to have a cookie! Ha ha ha ha!"

Upon hearing this, the baby suddenly cries over the fact that she can't have the cookie. Didi looks at her crying niece worried about why she started crying and tries to comfort her. Stu walks up to his older brother to congratulate him. "Congrats on reaching fatherhood, bro! So, got a name for them?"

"Yep!" Drew said with a smile before pointing at his crying daughter. "The oldest one is Angelica Charlotte Pickles." Him and Stu then look down at his other daughter in his arms. And the younger one is Davina Angelina Pickles."

"Davina, huh? Named your second born after your friend's little sister?" Stu asked.

"Yeah. I thought I would do John a favor and name one of my kids after his sister since he didn't have the chance to do so due to the miscarriage and his untimely death." Drew sighs sadly as he laments over his fallen friend. "I'm going to miss those two goofballs."

Stu place an hand on Drew's shoulder and tries to comfort him. "I know you do, big bro. But as long as you still have memories of them, they are still alive in your heart. Just like how mom lives in you, me, and Pop."

"What's that about your mother?" Lou asked as he walks towards his sons, daughters in laws, and granddaughters.

"Just telling Drew about how mom and his friends will always live in our hearts." Stu answers.

"You got that right. It's you boys and your mother that kept this old geezer still kicking to this days." Lou notices baby Davina in Drew's arm. "So, aren't you going to introduce me to the little younglings?"

"Oh right. Dad, I want you to meet the twins. That one in Charlotte's arm is Angelica Charlotte Pickles, the oldest twin." Drew points to Angelica, who is still crying about not getting a cookie. Then he and his father look at Davina. "And this quiet one is the youngest, Davina Angelina Pickles."

"Angelica and Davina Pickles, eh? If these two are anything like you and Stu here, you and Charlotte might have a handful with them." Lou said.

"Nonsense, Pop. Let's not jump to conclusions. I'm pretty sure that these two will get along just fine." Didi said as she hold Angelica to calm her down.

"What makes you think that?" Lou questioned as he raised an eyebrow.

"I don't know really. I just have a feeling about it I guess. But whatever the case may be, these two will grow up with a lovely, healthy relationship for one another." Didi answered.

"I will still think that these two will bump heads with each other. I can feel it in my bones." As Lou said that, Davina opens her eyes and sees her crying older sister in her aunt's arms and reaches out for her.

Didi sees this and smiles. "See? She just want to see her sister." Didi walked in front of Drew and Davina so the two sisters can meet eye to eye. Angelica's cries slowly dies down and notices Davina still reaches for her while smiling. Angelica was confused at this. She doesn't understand why her sister is reaching out for her, and with a smile no less!

Didi spoke to Angelica, "That your twin sister, Davina. You two will have a wonderful time together! You can share your toys with each other, share the same room, being by each other's side, and will get equal loving and attention from both of your parents. Isn't that lovely?"

Upon hearing that, Angelica grew bitter towards her younger sister. She doesn't like the fact that she has to share everything with her. Her room, her toys, her bed, and even her parents' affection. This can not and will not stand! In a twisted act, Angelica squeezes and tweaks Davina's arms which made her cry.

Didi, Drew, and Stu look on in shock at what just occurred. Lou walked up to Didi with a smug look on his face. "A wonderful time together, you say?" He said in a teasing tone which caused Didi to look at him with a annoyed look.

Five weeks has passed since the birth of Angelica and Davina and things are...not going so well for Drew nor his wife. The reason for that is because ever since they got home, Davina has been crying nonstop and both parents looks like they are about to lost it. Drew is holding Davina in his arms to try to calm her down while walking around the living room but nothing seems to be working. Charlotte walks with a creaky Angelica in the living room in her morning clothes. Her hair is a mess, her eyes look tired, and she looks like she is on the verge of collapsing.

"Drew, what are we going to do? She has been crying ever since!" Charlotte said as she is on the near bleak of losing it.

"I don't know, honey! We tried everything to make her stop but nothing worked!" Drew replied.

"Well do something else!" Charlotte instructed. "I can't deal with another single day of this nonstop crying!"

Outside the house, a shadow of a person appears on the front door of the house. Back in the house, Drew begins rocking Davina in hope that it would work but sadly it doesn't.

"Charlotte, I don't know what I'm doing wrong! I'm doing the best I can!" Drew shouted.

Charlotte laid Angelica on the couch then walked up to her husband and takes Davina out of his hands. "Let me give it try. I'm sure I can do it better!"

As Charlotte does the same as what Drew did, they heard the doorbell ringing.

"Can you get the door? It's probably Stu and Didi." Charlotte said as Drew walks to the door to let his brother and sister-in-law in.

Drew opens the door to greet them in but before he could say anything, he quickly found out that no one is there.

"Probably those troublesome kids playing pranks on us! Now is not the best time for that kind of things!" Drew said in a annoyed tone and was about to close the door but stop when he noticed a wore down raggedy girl doll with long blonde hair styled in a ponytail, a blue dirty dress with a crow symbol on the left side of its chest, a missing right eye, long pink and white socks and black dress shoes sitting on the porch. He picked up the doll and looks at it in a shocked manner and begins whispering to himself. "This is..."

Charlotte walks to her husband with the still crying Davina in her arms. "Was it them?" She asked.

"No. But someone left this doll on our porch." Drew replied as he shows Charlotte the doll.

Charlotte is disgusted by the doll's look. "Ugh! Throw that away! I don't want that disgusting thing anywhere near our daughters!"

Davina's cries begins to die down and sees the doll in her father's hands which sparked her curiosity. Drew and Charlotte take notice of this and look at their daughter.

"She stopped. She finally stop crying." Charlotte whispered.

"I wonder..." Drew moved the doll slightly away from Davina's view which in turn set her off. Panicked, Drew hands the doll to Davina to get her to stop. Davina stopped crying again and takes the doll right out of her father's hands and hugs it. Drew and Charlotte look at each other in silence for a bit before letting out a collective sigh of relief. "Glad that is over with. I guess this doll is our go-to answer."

"While I don't appreciate her having this dirty up thing, it's the best way to calm her down." Charlotte said.

"We should probably clean it up when she goes to sleep." Drew replied.

"You mean you clean it up when she goes to sleep? I got a lot of phone calls to make and I won't have time to do this and that at the same time." Charlotte and Drew hears Angelica crying from inside the house. "Can you take care of that? I got to get ready."

Charlotte entered the house with Davina. Drew stayed outside for a bit and wonders about the doll. "That isn't no coincidence. I am certain that doll was hers. But, how did it get here?" While Drew tries to put the pieces together, Angelica's crying got louder. "Coming sweetheart!"

Drew rushes back into the house and closes the door behind him. Meanwhile across the street, the same crow from four weeks ago is in a tree watched Drew entering into the house, indicating that it was watching the whole ordeal with the Pickles family the whole time. It then spread its wings and takes into the sky, leaving some feathers behind.

Later that night, Angelica and Davina are soundly asleep in their crib. Charlotte watches her babies sleeping peacefully together. Drew enters the room with the now cleaned doll and walk up to his wife.

"Isn't this lovely, Drew? Both of our daughters sleeping peacefully together. This is all I ever wanted from them." Charlotte said.

"Yeah. Let's just hope that they will prove my father wrong when they grew up." Drew replied as he put the doll in the crib next to Davina, upon feeling it, hugs it.

"I am sure they will." Charlotte kiss Drew on the cheek and leaves the room.

Drew then kisses both Angelica and Davina on their forehead. "Sweet dreams, my princesses." He said before walking out of the room and closing the door behind him.

Shortly after Drew left, Davina begins to whimper quietly until a transplant disembodied hand appears and stoked the four strands of her hair before talking in a calming, disembodied voice which calmed Davina.

"Shhhh! It's okay little one. There's nothing to cry about now. I'm... well, we are for you, and will always be there watching over you. Forever and ever. Until we meet again, little Davina."

The disembodied hand disappears and silence fills the room. Davina smiles as she hugs her doll tightly.
