chapter xv.

It was still early for most vampires, but due to Asuka's jet lag, she had arisen earlier than most. And yet, despite the early hour, she could still hear the loud sounds from the Day Class that stood in anticipation for the Night Class to finally come out of their dormitory and cross campus in the crossover. How troublesome. Her sensitive hearing already knew that she would come to hate that moment in the day, especially since many of them were not kind to her younger sister Yuuki. She hated that they treated her without kindness because of her position, one that many coveted because of the proximity it afforded her with the Night Class.

But now that Asuka was here, she would do what she could to allow her younger sister to lead a happy and undisturbed life. First step to secure this was to find Rido and eliminate any of his spies and followers to ensure that he would never traumatise Yuuki like he had for herself. She would never forgive herself if Yuuki landed in the same position that she had when she was younger. And the second was to allow her younger sister to have time with Kaname undisturbed by vampires and Zero.

She knew of Zero's overprotective nature, and this would certainly be hard to establish for them to have some privacy away from the vampire, but hopefully her appearance would ease tension between all of them. That, and she hoped that Zero and her would develop to have at least a friendly nature so that he wouldn't mind spending time in her company whilst her younger sister got to know Kaname better. After all, in the anime it wasn't till much later till Kaname had been able to truly spend time with Yuuki, and it would be better for them to do so now before Rido made his reappearance back upon the scene.

Meanwhile, there was also Senri to think about. She desired for him also to be happy, and perhaps she would push him towards Rima so that they could develop the same friendship that they had in the anime. That, or ask if he had any vague interest in modelling like he had in the series. That, or see if he was keen on Takuma's presence like he had been before. She thought that they made a good match and would be quite keen friends. He deserved more people in his corner, and she knew that Rido's parenting style had meant that Senri was reluctant to trust many others, but she hoped to encourage him otherwise in their time spent here at Cross Academy.

So many plans, and so little time.

Notating small thoughts of what she wanted to accomplish next in her notebook, she finally placed down her pen as she glanced out the window to notice her younger sister battling the already populated crowds outside the Night Dorms. She hoped that her younger sister would be accompanied by Zero at least so that it wouldn't be such a burden to do by herself. That, and she hoped that her younger sister would be receptive enough to want to spend some time together on the weekend, so that she could get to know her better.

But for now, her attentions fixated upon a small knock upon her adjoining door as she was shook out of her thoughts from the sudden disturbance to her silence. Kaname must have heard her moving about in her room. That, or he suspected that she was still jetlagged since their move across halfway around the world. Placing her notebook in her drawer so that it wouldn't attract any immediate questions for now, she moved towards the door in her room as she offered the other a smile as she welcomed Kaname into her room.

"Good morning." Asuka offered as a light flush settled upon her features as she realised she was still wearing the small slip of silk fabric dress from her slumber and hadn't changed before allowing Kaname into her room. Thank goodness it had been him and not anyone else! Moving towards her couch to grab a light cardigan to wrap around her frame she missed the slight flash of crimson that had appeared in her brother's eyes before he settled across from her as she sat down in her seat.

Pleased that Asuka was finally out of the company of the others, Kaname knew that he couldn't afford to waste this time they had undisturbed. "Good morning As-chan." He rumbled, as his eyes quickly flickered over her figure, easily noticing what the silk dress displayed and didn't feature. Oh, the things he could have done. And would have done. If it hadn't been for the unknown that hung between their relationship. That, and the fact that he was certain that he could not go down that route yet, until he knew that he had secured her affections.

But this image of her would not go forgotten for a long time. He'd probably need a cold shower much later to accompany this. "Did you rest well?" He asked, as he moved closer towards her scent, his eyes closing briefly as the sweet smell came into contact with himself, pleased that in her absence if anything she had grown sweeter. Oh, and how he was sure that she tasted of heaven.

"Yes, it was quite good. I'm still having a little trouble adjusting to the time zone, but I'm sure it'll come eventually." She replied, as he nodded in response to her words, his gaze never roaming off of her frame as he began to approach the topic that had been on his mind ever since the previous night. "As-chan, I was wondering if you wanted to spend the weekend at the Kuran Manor? I know you haven't been back since those years ago, and I thought we could pay our respects to our parents and spend some time together." That, and he could finally spend some undisturbed time with her, without the proximity of Senri nearby.

It was almost as if Kaname could read her mind. It was only a pity that Yuuki wouldn't be able to attend alongside them. She had wanted to see where her parents were buried for a long time, but due to her fear of the spies and Rido's network, she had refrained from nearing the Kuran Mansion since her disappearance off the grid. And how she would love to spend time with her twin brother before she started to push him into Yuuki's sphere. How lovely this would be. Especially since she hadn't been able to properly spend time with him without other factors coming into play, here particularly at Cross Academy.

"That would be lovely." She beamed as she leaped towards him to embrace her kind brother at his thoughts. He always knew her so well. She was truly lucky to have him by her side even though she had disappeared all those years ago, and here he was — forgiving her even though he had all the right to be furious at her. She wasn't so certain she would have acted the same if their positions were reversed. She truly was so fortunate to have both Kaname and Senri by her side, always caring after her.

Pleased that his plans were coming to fruition with his sister's agreement, a rare smile broke upon his features at her easy agreement. Now one step closer towards his goals, a small 'oof' escaped his lips at the launching of his sister upon his frame, but nonetheless something welcomed as he began to wrap his arms around her figure, her delicate stature settled upon his lap as he settled his face upon her neck, inhaling her sweet scent. How his inner monster craved and begged for him to just let his canines slide open and allow for him to take just a sweet sip of the blood that lay beneath.

And how it roared and raged for him to take control of the situation and pin her beneath his figure so that he could take what lay beneath. And yet, he refrained. But all it took was for one second for Asuka to notice the burgundy eyes to appear as she released her figure, for him to gulp. Now she would finally see the darkness that lay beneath him, and would she reject him? Would she cower away in fear for the likeness he had to Rido? For the darkness that could so easily overtake him.

And yet despite these fears that arose to the top of his thoughts, it seemed that his sister had no qualms still remaining in his arms. He wondered what exactly ran in her mind as she regarded him with that stare, the one that he so helplessly wished that he could decode. How easily she had flown out of his grasp because of Rido, and now it was now as if he was learning a new language when it came to understand his twin sister, his soul.

The moment Kaname lingered upon her neck, Asuka realised that Kaname was most likely thirsty. Easily because of what she had remembered from the series, the way he had denied himself after drinking Ruka's blood at the establishment of the Night Class. That, and the fact that his eyes were now undeniably crimson as he sat there before her, his grip rigidly upon her waist as if he feared for her reaction. Did he think that she feared the blood thirsty monster that lay beneath all of them? How na?ve her silly brother was.

"Kaname, it's okay." She uttered as she allowed for her fingers to ruffle through his hair like he once had. Whilst she would have offered him her blood, she knew that the one that he craved most would be her younger sister. And for now, whilst they were upon campus, she knew that with one drop of her pureblood, all the vampires would have arisen from their slumber at the smell. "Shall I get you some blood tablets?" She asked, as she continued to allow her fingers to card through his hair, her gaze warm as she tilted her head, allowing her love for him to seep through every action. She would not reject him just because he craved for Yuuki's blood.

How his sister shocked him with her actions. He had thought she would have looked away in disgust as she pushed his grip away from her figure, yelling at him to leave her room until he got a handle upon his inner monster. And yet — here she was, unafraid to stay with him, trusting him despite the hunger that lay beneath. And how it made him love all the more. For the way she knew of his dark nature and how she did not discard it away but embrace it instead. Childhood memories arising of the way she began to ruffle her fingers through his hair, he allowed his eyes to briefly shut at this simple action, before nodding at her wise words.

How easily he could have pinned her down beneath his broad frame and taken her blood for himself. But how he wanted her to offer it instead. He would never take what she would not offer. But how he wished that in that moment she had offered her unblemished neck instead of those blood tablets. In the same way they had shared energy when they were younger. But they both knew the dangers of their blood being spilt upon campus, especially with the Level E that floated about, and the other Nobles.

But the thoughts of her slender neck made him wonder if anyone had ever actually taken her blood before. He was sure that Rido had done so, but he wondered if Senri had been fortuitous enough to grace his fangs into her neck and have her blood coursing in his veins. How that thought made his blood boil. His jealous green monster arising again, his nails made small crescent moons into his palms as he tried his best to refrain from displaying his irritation in front of his dear sister. He dearly hoped that Senri hadn't had a chance. He might have to disappear if he had done so.

If only this action wouldn't cause his sister pain, he might have gone ahead and done it already. But he knew that just from watching their simple interactions, that Asuka enjoyed having him by her side, and to cause her pain was unfathomable. Unconscionable. But still. A man could dream.

His thoughts shifting the moment Asuka reappeared before his gaze, offering him a glass of water with a blood tablet dropped in, a small smile appeared upon her lips as she commented, "I know it's not as good as the real thing, but hopefully it will satiate your thirst for now." Handing over the glass to her brother, she allowed him to toss back the whole glass undisturbed as she took her close seat next to him again, before continuing, "Now tell me Ka-chan, why don't you give me the rundown on these Nobles and Night Class? Who are your favourites? You better not have replaced my spot with one of these Aristocrats." She teased, as she lightened the atmosphere immediately with her words.

Yuuki's attention had been peaked the moment she had caught sight of the gorgeous brunette that accompanied Kaname, one that she had remembered her Father had told her briefly about before her Guardian duties had been needed. She almost felt jealous for the effortless way she seemed to be put together, although it seemed that the other wasn't as cold as the vampires often were to a human. She seemed kind — similar to Kaname, and for some reason she placed those affections on a mere human like herself.

For someone whose beginning who had been marred by vampires, she wasn't afraid of them like one would think her to be. She owed Chairman Cross a debt for finding her in the midst of what could have been her death and taking her home as his own adopted daughter. And whilst she should have been wary of them, like Zero often warned her to be, she couldn't help but be drawn to both Kaname and the newcomer, Asuka. And whilst Zero often thought that the reason she had been interested in Kaname was because she was infatuated with him, like so many of her classmates were — this wasn't the truth.

Truth be told, she couldn't help but sense that he was lonely. That all those years when he visited the Chairman and herself, that a part of him was missing. And it was because of that, she had wanted to give him a friend. Someone that he could depend upon, when all the vampires in his life were giving him strife like she heard that they did in the Senate. Not that she knew much of what happened in vampire politics, but she had overheard certain conversations that he had held with her father at certain times, and it seemed that Kaname had a big burden placed upon him.

And now with the sudden reappearance of his sister, (one that she had never known about — she was still kinda mad at him for never mentioning this!) she was glad that with Asuka's presence by his side he immediately seemed happier? Or at least more comfortable. For some reason his mannerisms were familiar to her at least to the extent where she could see that his rigid frame seemed more relaxed when he had his sister beside him, and it seemed that his gaze never strayed far away from the gorgeous brunette.

Not to mention that she hadn't expected at all to have Asuka's attentions placed upon her at all! The kind vampire, just like her brother had easily slipped into conversation with her and hadn't been fazed by the fact that she wasn't a vampire like the other. She hoped that with today's changeover, she would be able to continue in conversations with Asuka, and hopefully spend some time with her over the weekend, or even perhaps another time. For some reason she felt akin to the other, and comfortable in her presence.

But perhaps that was just because Asuka had been so kind to help her out the other night.

Only another few hours till the Night Class would come out. Hopefully Zero would appear before they came out from the gates. It seemed that the Day Class were getting more ferocious than usual, especially with St Xocolatl Day was coming up. Oh, how she wasn't looking forward to that day, knowing that the Day Class certainly took advantage of that day to attempt to curry favour with all the Night Class Students.

If only they knew who they truly were.

author note: here we go with another update! apologies the chapter didn't contain all the scenes i had planned, but i've had such a busy week and haven't had the chance to write as much as i would have liked. but it's been quite some time since the last update, so i thought i would publish half the chapter now and the other half later on when it gets finished. hopefully this interaction between asuka and kaname will be something that you guys enjoy, i thought that since senri and asuka have had some time together that it was time kaname had his undisturbed time with his sister. and poor naive asuka misunderstanding kaname's burgundy gaze for hunger for yuuki's blood, instead of her own. silly little vampire. and poor kaname for just wanting his sister's blood, but being enough of a gentleman to not demand it from her like his inner vampire just wants him to. also hope you enjoyed the little insight into yuuki (finally!) hopefully this allows you guys to see her view upon kaname and how she remembers her childhood, with being saved by chairman cross (and not really kaname's interaction with it at all, she just thinks of him of the vampire dude that kept coming over when she was young) so no, she does not view him in a romantic interest, more that she sees his pain over the years from not having asuka by his side and wants to be a good friend to him!

thank you again for all the views in the last chapter and all the new people that have come across this story! i really treasure the reviews and pms i get for this story (honestly it makes my day when i get an email from fanfiction that i have a review) because they motivate to update quicker. i love the thoughts i get to see from you guys on what you think about the scenes, the characters and the interactions — it helps me think of what needs to be seen next and how to answer your questions with each next update that i do. although it seems that senri and kaname are at war with each other with each of them hating the other i do have plans in motion for how they would eventually end up if it was to be a triadic pairing, but nothing is confirmed as of yet so feel free to keep voting for which pairing you like most with asuka! and yuuki! and yes i do think that ichiru will eventually make his appearance in this fanfiction, although it may take another 100 chapters for that to come in fruition. so he is an option if you would like to see him with yuuki!

hope you enjoyed this update, apologies it wasn't as long as i wanted it to be and that it took some time! thank you to all who keep favouriting and following this story, it touches me that you enjoy it enough to press that button and subscribe to this story. let me know if there's anything you would like to see happen in the next chapter or to come in the future, or any other thoughts that come up!

till next time xx
