Summary: Beginning in 1967, Stuart Babcock decides to hire Camille Brightmore as the new nanny for his daughter, CC. This allows Camille's young son, Niles, to live with the Babcock's and both of his parents who are employed by them. A new and budding friendship blossoms throughout the years, but will it turn into something more?

It was the year 1967. Stuart Babcock had been one of the biggest named investors of show business and had been a famous stock trader on Wall Street. It was safe to say that he was quite the top priority of anyone who was trying to buy out stocks. Stuart was a well-respected man who had a round the clock job that was important to service other clients. He had cared about his job so much that family wasn't one of his biggest priorities. In order to keep himself in check, he made sure that both children he had custody of, Noel and CC, were taken care of at all times. His oldest child, Noel, was just sent off to a prestigious boarding school that was in Vermont. He figured that Noel really needed to find some newfound knowledge and take on a career that would be apt and suitable for the Babcock family's continuous fame and fortune. As far as CC... well... she was a different story. Stuart's daughter had been quite the stubborn girl ever since he and CC's mother, Bernadette Beatrice (BB), had gotten divorced when CC was 2. He noticed the behavioral changes in his daughter when he started to hire nannies to take care of her, and those changes were not so good. She would consistently throw tantrums, drive the nannies insane, and would go for hours on end without sleep. Stuart was having great difficulty finding a suitable nanny that wouldn't quit because of his 6 year old daughter's antics and one that would tolerate her behavior for the matter.

Stuart felt that he had confidence that he could find a nanny for CC. In the meantime, he was most reliable on his trustworthy butler, Harold Brightmore. Harold had come from a long line of butlers in his family that would take after their fathers, grandfathers, etc. He was definitely no exception, but there was a catch to Harold that was very different from his family line: he was the only butler in his ancestry to leave the one family that they had been serving for years: the Sheffield's. He was the previous butler to James Sheffield, but after a long falling out and finance difficulties that his boss wouldn't fulfill, Harold quit and moved from London to New York to find a better opportunity. He brought along his wife and son, who were living together and could only see him a couple of times a year. The Brightmore family was quite poor and didn't have the sustainable income to hold down a house, as they had been evicted from other living arrangements in the past. Hearing that Stuart needed a new nanny for CC, Harold was quick to jump on the opportunity to have his wife come work in the same vicinity.

Once Harold had finished up Stuart's lunch for the day, which consisted of a salad with Italian dressing, a tall glass of red wine, and a slice of baguette bread, he had placed the items on a tray and eagerly strode up to Stuart's office. He was hoping that his suggestion of hiring his wife would be something that his boss would agree to. He planned to suggest that to him at the right time, so he figured that this was finally his chance now that Stuart had been done with several conference calls for the day. The butler knocked at the door to his boss' office and then walked in with his tray. "I brought you some lunch, sir. I hope you don't mind.. the chicken hadn't been thawed all the way, so I wasn't able to add that to your Caesar salad," Harold said as he set the tray on the desk.

Stuart noticed his butler come in with lunch, and he couldn't help but smile back at him. It was rare for the businessman to show appreciation to his staff, but since Harold was still a part of the household working for him, he was definitely grateful.. more so grateful for Harold putting up with his little girl. "Ah, thank you Harold.. and don't worry about the chicken. I wasn't necessarily hungry for that to begin with," he replied as he took the plates and wine glass off of his tray. "Have you taken care of CC's lunch yet?"

"Oh, yes I have. Miss CC requested a peanut butter and jelly sandwich with the crust finely cut off, a side of potato chips, and a slice of chocolate cake for dessert," Harold said as he crossed his arms behind his back properly. "She had no issues eating her food today, once again, so I was quite pleased with my work."

With those words, Stuart removed his glasses and pinched the bridge of his nose sighing heavily. "Harold, you know you can refuse junk food requests from my daughter, right?" he asked slightly irritated that his butler continued to give her junk food at her expense. "This is the fourth time you gave CC food that's not healthy for her. You need to form a rebuttal. Tell her she can have broccoli or carrots on the side instead of chips and leave out the dessert! You hold that power now," he added on for his butler, reminding him of how his job was supposed to work.

"Well, sir, I don't have that kind of expertise with disciplining children," Harold replied honestly. He did have a soft side for the young Babcock girl, so he was trying to avoid her being upset and throwing another tantrum around the house. "Besides, your daughter has very dire needs that I must meet or else she will throw another tantrum. We don't want a repeat of when she broke your custom vase that was worth $28,000."

Hearing Harold talk about his daughter made Stuart sigh again. He wished to himself that finding a nanny for CC wouldn't be so hard. He had interviewed several nannies for CC, but all of them were repulsed the minute CC interacted with them. He was quite unsuccessful and needed to put his foot down. "Well, I'm sorry, Harold, if you have to take on double the duties in my house for now. As you can see my work schedule is tight as ever, and I've been juggling nanny applications back and forth for the past four days. I have to hire a new nanny for my daughter. I cannot possibly take some time out of my own day to spend with her."

The butler nodded his head in understanding his boss. "Quite right. You barely have time to sleep, what with all of the stocks going up and down and keeping up with the bigger brokers in the entire country," Harold said to puff up Stuart's ego a little bit. He knew his boss liked whenever someone would talk so highly of him.

"I mean.. taking care of Noel was so easy. The minute he turned six, he was out of the house and in boarding school and never looked back. He does come visit about five times a year for the holidays, but it was more than enough work for me," Stuart said referring to how his son was so well-behaved. "And of course, DD, my youngest, lives with her mother in New Orleans. I haven't seen much of her, what with BB barely keeping in contact with neither Noel nor CC ever since we divorced." He rubbed his temples lightly after taking a couple of bites of his lunch. "I just... don't know what to do with CC. She's clearly too immature to be sent off to boarding school. There's no way she'll be able to survive in that environment without a suitable guardian. The only resort I have is to hire a nanny for her.. and I have to have one by the end of this week."

Harold couldn't help himself but to finally intervene on Stuart's rambling. He had to bring up his wife as a potential nanny before it was too late. "You know, sir, I'm not sure if you'd ever want to consider her without a proper application filled out, but my wife is wonderful with children and can discipline very well," he suggested after a moment of silence.

"Oh, thank you so much for your offer, Harold, but I'm not sure if your wife would be able to handle my daughter," Stuart said doubtfully. He appreciated his butler throwing out that suggestion, but he couldn't possibly let more domestics scatter around his home.

"We have a seven year old son. If anything, I'm sure my wife would be more than capable of taking care of a six year old girl with high demands," Harold replied confidently.

After listening to Harold try and fight his case, Stuart stood up from his desk and walked over to his butler who was standing at the other side of the office. "I don't think you understand what I'm trying to get at," he started as he walked closer to his butler sternly. "CC is not like any other girl. She is demanding, rambunctious, and greedy. As a matter of fact, I was debating on whether to send her to a therapist or not. Ever since BB left and I started to hire nannies, she hasn't stopped her ruckus."

"This is exactly why you have to hire my wife!" Harold said continuing to help his boss even though he wasn't having it. "My son has been the same way in every instance where he and his mother continued to get evicted from every living space. He's always thrown tantrums and would lose sleep for days on end. They're lucky to be living in a motel where she's trying to make amends and pay rent instead of out on the streets... my poor boy.." Harold lost track of his thoughts thinking about how his family was suffering out there. He really wanted them to have a safe space to live and for Stuart to have a nanny. "Please sir.. give my wife a chance. I miss having my family around.. if you are able to hire her and reunite us.. well.. I wouldn't know how to repay you."

Stuart was slightly touched by his butler's reasoning. He wasn't exactly a family man himself, so it was harder to relate in his situation. However, he could see that Harold was passionate enough to continue to suggest hiring his wife. After thinking for a moment, he finally gave in. "Alright. Go ahead and make the call to the motel.. tell your wife that she's hired on a trial and error basis. I'm giving her a week. If CC isn't somewhat sharpened up and obedient by the end of next week, that's it for her. Do I make myself clear?"

Harold swallowed nervously, but was also confident and sure that his wife would be able to handle little CC. "Crystal clear," he replied and then sighed in relief. "Oh thank you! Thank you, sir!" He shook his boss' hand quickly and appreciatively. "I can't tell you how much this means to me. My goodness, I'll finally get to see little N -" Harold's rambling was interrupted by the sound of the doorknob to Stuart's office jiggling. The jiggling noise continued until the door creaked open slightly. A petite figure started to make its way into the office.

"Hi Daddy!" It was none other than little CC Babcock. Sporting a pink dress with a giant pink bow holding up her golden locks, she walked in holding her teddy bear, which had a tear on its arm. She held the toy to her chest tightly lightly tapping her feet towards her father and the butler. "Theodore is broken.." she said holding up the bear to Stuart.

"Oh, kitten, I'm so sorry to hear about poor Theodore," Stuart said bending down to his daughter's level and looking at her in the eyes. "Tell you what.. why don't you have Harold take Theodore and he will patch him up good as new, okay?" he gave the little girl a reassuring smile.

CC nodded her head and reluctantly handed over her broken teddy bear to Harold, who had walked out of the room with the broken stuffed animal. It was the closest thing she had to for a friend, and this time, she was getting sick of playing by herself with her toys. "Daddy, please play with me.." she requested calmly knowing she wasn't allowed to burst in his office.

Stuart sighed heavily and shook his head. "Kitten, you know Daddy's very busy. I barely have the time to work throughout the day," he said trying to excuse himself from spending time with his daughter. "Once Theodore is fixed, then you can go play with him and your dollies."

"But I don't wanna play with Theodore and my dollies!" CC shouted with irritation. "I want you to play with me!" she started to really get aggravated and stomped her feet on the solid ground beneath her.

"I know you want me to play with you, but I cannot possibly get distracted from anything else," Stuart said in the nicest possible way. In the back of his mind, he was thankful for his butler suggesting a new nanny for his daughter. He was hoping that this chaos would come to an end within a week and that his trust in his butler would not be let down. "I do need to tell you something though.. Daddy has hired a brand new nanny for you, so you can play with her starting tomorrow!" he said excitedly.

Hearing that only made CC angrier. "No!" she screamed stomping her feet again. "I don't want a new nanny! I hate nannies! I want to only play with you!" CC could feel tears prick through her eyes. She was practically pleading for her father to spend time with her, and it was getting tiring. The previous nannies she had would treat her like a drill sergeant treated its privates. She was terrified of any new nanny that came in the house.

"But.. but CC.." Stuart said placing his hands on the girl's shoulders to get her to calm down. His daughter squirmed trying to push his hands off of her, but Stuart managed to keep them on. "CC, the new nanny is bringing her son to stay with us too. You can play with him! Soon, you're going to have a little friend that you'll be able to see every day."

The fact that the nanny had a son who was able to play with her made CC stop squirming and get attentive to her father for once. She sniffled holding back the tears that she wanted to pour from her eyes. "I... I'm gonna have a friend..?" she asked quietly.

"Yes!" Stuart said with a wide smile to encourage his daughter to be happy about the news too. "And you know what? He's going to be staying with us in the servant's wing, so you'll be able to play with him while your nanny takes care of you." He noticed CC was quiet and she swayed back and forth impatiently. "Come on, kitten. Where's your pretty smile?" he asked bringing his fingers up to his daughter's chin. CC couldn't help but smile and giggle when he stared at her for a few more minutes. "That's my girl."

Just as Stuart was done talking to his daughter, Harold opened the door to the office. "Oh sir, I just spoke with Camille. I cannot tell you how excited she was to be leaving that motel dump! You're going to love her, and I promise you won't regret hiring her," he beamed excitedly as he started to prepare the welcoming of his small family. He still couldn't believe that his boss allowed him to reunite with his family. Now that he was giving them the chance, Harold was ready for his wife and son to have proper food and shelter. It was going to be the best day of his life seeing them again.

The next day was the day that Harold's wife and son were arriving, and it was safe to say that everyone in the large mansion had mixed emotions. Harold was feeling very elated and eager to greet his family, Stuart was pacing around the foyer nervously, and CC was holding her now mended teddy bear not necessarily paying any attention. Stuart had reminded his daughter to dress in her finest attire to meet her new nanny, even though her nanny was definitely going to be underdressed. CC sported a light blue dress this time with a blue bow in her hair to compliment her blonde locks. She had brand new Mary Janes on, so she was definitely careful to not get them dirty in any way. Her father was never happy seeing any of her new clothing dirty, so she was being careful this time. CC sat on the staircase dangling her feet impatiently as she smoothed her teddy bear's faux fur. As soon as doorbell rang, the little girl perked up to see Stuart heading in her direction.

"CC, your new nanny is here," he said to her as he took the little girl's hand and led her towards the front door. CC grumbled and tried her best to stay put on the staircase.

"No! Daddy, I wanna stay here!" she demanded still keeping her behind planted on one of the stairs. She clutched onto her teddy bear tightly trying to stay alone, but her father wouldn't have it.

"You have to get up and meet your nanny! Now," he said before he was able to get CC off of the stairs and towards the front door. He placed his hands on her shoulders as the girl grumbled and crossed her arms. CC huffed and held the teddy bear close to her chest with annoyance written all over her face. She really wasn't ready to meet her nanny, and she was also hoping that she actually would have a friend to play with. Her father had the tendency to tell the girl some little white lies, and CC wanted to believe him for once.

As Harold walked up to the door cheerfully, he opened it and beamed upon seeing his wife at the door. "Camille, darling!" he chimed as he brought her in for a kiss and embraced her. The woman clutched onto her husband happily and they had held each other tightly for a while. They both exchanged tears of joy and laughter up until they heard Stuart clear his throat. The two quickly unraveled each other from their embrace and then looked over at their boss. "S-Sorry, sir. I'm just.. so excited to see her," Harold said holding Camille close.

"You must be our new nanny," Stuart said walking up to the woman in his butler's arms. He wasn't interested in the public display of affection in his own foyer. He was merely ready to have the woman tend to his daughter right away. "Stuart Babcock, your new boss," he introduced himself and held out his hand to have her shake it.

The dirty blonde woman smiled and let go of her husband, extending her own hand to shake her new boss' hand. "Bonjour, monsieur. Camille Brightmore, at your service," the woman spoke in her thick French accent shaking his hand eagerly. "Oh monsieur, merci beaucoup. I cannot thank you enough for allowing me and my son to be a part of your household," she spoke in a more pleading fashion.

"Ah yes, well, remember this is not your typical living space. While you're here, you're working for me, and you'll be tending after my daughter. As a matter of fact, let me introduce you to her now," Stuart said as he looked behind him to see CC not moving a muscle. He sighed and held out his hand for his daughter to take. "CC.. come on.." he said calmly. It took a good two minutes for CC to shyly make her entrance and face her new nanny. She looked up at the woman intently with a scowl written across her face. "This is my daughter, CC. CC, meet Camille, your new nanny."

"It is a pleasure to meet you, mon cherie," Camille said kneeling in front of the little girl at her level. "Aren't you a beautiful little darling girl? We will be spending lots and lots of time together," she added still seeing that CC did not change any emotion. The young Babcock girl was still waiting for this new friend of hers to enter since it seemed that he did not make his entrance yet. "Oh, don't be so upset. We are going to have lots of fun together! You, me, and..." Camille stopped before she turned to look for her son. "Mon coeur, where's Niles?"

Harold peered through his wife's shoulder and noticed his son hiding behind one of the front doors. "Niles... Niles come out from there and say hello.." Harold said to his son. He sighed knowing that his son wouldn't budge unless his mother did something about it.

"Niles, mon fils, come here and meet your new little friend," Camille persuaded her son calmly. It took a good three to four minutes for the young Brightmore boy to make his entrance slowly. He seemed to be just as shy as CC was meeting Camille, but he definitely was more timid upon entering a new environment. As he stepped in the house, he had his hands in his pockets and made his way towards his mother. Seeing that he was tugging on her skirt, Camille chuckled and held her son closely. "Niles, come meet little CC.."

CC looked up at her father with disgust seeing that there were two new domestics that had entered their house. She was not happy with them being here and practically taking over the house. "I don't like her, Daddy," she snapped still holding onto her bear.

"Well, I'm sorry, CC, but you're going to have to get used to her being around. She's going to be taking care of you every day," Stuart said as he led the little girl closer to her new nanny. "Now please act like a proper lady and introduce yourself to young Niles."

The blonde girl hesitated as she tapped her fingers together nervously peering to find the boy still hiding behind his mother. Once she finally caught a sight of him, she whispered to herself, "New friend.." Suddenly, a soft smile spread across the girl's face as she curtsied and extended her hand out. "Hello!" she chimed.

Niles couldn't believe how happy this little girl was to meet him. It was touching to see how eager she was to introduce herself to him. After a moment of silence, Niles finally walked away from his mother's embrace and walked forward towards the little girl. He couldn't help but smile at her. She was probably the most beautiful girl he had ever seen in his life. "Hello," he replied in his British accent. "I'm Niles." The boy reached out to CC to shake her hand gingerly and gently.

CC could feel herself blushing as their hands touched. She giggled as they shook hands together and frankly didn't want to let go of his hand. "My name is CC," she said introducing herself to him in a proper manner, just like how she was taught. After a minute of shaking hands, she finally blurted out. "Come play with me!" The little girl grabbed Niles hand and rushed away from the crowd of adults.

The boy was in quite a bit of shock seeing that CC was quick to make him run from his mother. He couldn't help but follow the girl's lead and ran with her to wherever she was headed to. "Where are we going?" he asked as he was still running along with the little girl.

"To my playhouse! We can play in there together!" CC chimed excitedly finally satisfied with the fact that she had a little friend to play with. She had to admit, she really didn't want her father to be the one to have little playdates with her, because she couldn't exactly relate to adults. Seeing that the new nanny had a son made her excited to have a playmate at any given point in time. CC led Niles to her backyard, where in the middle was a large treehouse. This was the space where CC had all of her favorite toys and goodies kept for her free time. She was finally excited that she got to share her interests with someone else that had actually seemed to care, even though Niles was definitely a soft-spoken boy.

Once the two walked in, CC pulled back the curtain entryway and led Niles inside her treehouse. "Ta da!" she chimed showing him her large playhouse. It had plenty of little toys and trinkets laying around that were at the children's expense. Niles couldn't believe his eyes at the sight before him. He didn't really have much to play with when he was living at the motel with his mother, but seeing CC's treehouse was like entering a goldmine. His eyes went wide and he beamed at the sights and wonders he found. "Wow.." the boy spoke in awe. Now that he had seen these, he was very excited to have a little socialite girl as his new friend. "This is all yours?" Niles asked her as he watched the little girl nod her head and rush to get something. She placed her teddy bear on the ground and picked up a baby doll.

"We can play house together!" CC said as she held the doll in her arms. "You can be the daddy, I can be the mommy, and we have a baby together! It's a baby girl and her name is Clarissa," she said making sure she established her own set of rules before proceeding to play with the boy. "Since you're the daddy, you get to take care of the baby." CC passed the baby doll to Niles, who held it in his hands confused.

"But you're the mummy.. don't you get to take care of the baby?" he asked her. Niles was always used to his mother taking care of him. He didn't know what exactly CC had learned from her own mother, but Niles was certain that a mother never left their child behind.

"No, silly! I have to go to work. I'm a big Broadway producer! I'm very busy!" CC said as she put on her fake sunglasses and her pink feather boa around her neck. "And since you're a domestic, you stay at home and clean the dishes and take care of the baby!" she added pointing at Niles who was holding the baby doll in his arms gingerly.

"Uh..." Niles hesitated as he pretended to rock the baby. "Alright... I don't know about this.." Niles reluctantly continued to rock the little doll in his arms, not knowing what he was doing at the moment.

As CC pretended to 'walk away and go to work,' she gasped loudly and stopped her tracks. "Wait a minute!" CC shouted as she grabbed the baby doll from Niles and threw it on the ground. "We can't have a baby yet! We have to get married first!" she pointed out.

Niles' eyes widened upon hearing that. "We do!?" he asked in shock. Since they were playing pretend, Niles didn't take the whole scenario seriously, but at the same time, he was nervous about CC's notions and the entire ordeal in general. "But.. if we get married, does that mean we have to kiss? On the lips..?" he asked her nervously. "Because I've never kissed a girl before.."

Hearing Niles' question, CC turned back to face him and then said, "We have to kiss! We're gonna be married!" At the thought of kissing a boy, CC felt herself blush and rushed to grab an impromptu veil. Seeing that CC was nearly ready, Niles turned around and rushed outside. "Hey! Where are you going? Come back! You're gonna be late for our wedding!" CC peered through the curtain as she watched Niles walk towards the large garden in their backyard. She gasped watching the boy go through the neat flowers and decided to pick about four of them out of the ground. The little girl covered her mouth hoping that her father wouldn't get mad at them for touching his garden, but he wasn't watching at the moment. CC hoped that Stuart wouldn't notice the missing flowers.

After a moment, Niles finally returned to CC with the freshly picked flowers and handed them over to her. "This is for you, my beautiful bride," he said with a smile. CC reached out to take the small bouquet of flowers and held them up to her nose, smelling them. "Mmmm, these are perfect!" she chimed happily as she couldn't help but kiss his cheek. "Come on!" she grabbed his hand and practically dragged him to where they were standing in the middle of the stuffed animal pile. Niles' eyes widened feeling the little girl's lips on his cheek briefly and blushed. All of this was happening so fast, but he was really loving playing pretend with his new friend.

"I, CC Babcock, take you... um... what's your name again?" CC asked the last part in a whisper. The boy moved to her ear and whispered his full name to her before they pulled away. "Niles Brightmore... to be my husband. I do!" CC finished with a giggle. Niles couldn't help but giggle too, since he was quite lost and didn't know what to say. "It's your turn," CC whispered to him again letting him follow.

"Erm..." Niles hesitated before he finally spoke up. "I, Niles Brightmore, take you, CC Babcock.. to be my wife. I do!" They both erupted into fits of laughter, seeing as they were standing quite close to one another. The both of them were quite nervous about what was going to happen next, so they both closed their eyes shut tightly and moved in slowly to each other. However, a voice stopped them from going any further.

"Niles! CC! Come inside and help me make some cookies, children!" Camille called out from the inside of the mansion.

Hearing the new nanny's voice, they both opened her eyes and CC dropped her impromptu bouquet. "Ooh!" she chirped as she then took off the little veil on her head. She then turned over to Niles who had followed her towards the exit to her treehouse. "Don't worry. I won't actually marry a domestic like you," she reassured Niles in her own fashion, letting him know that this was all just pretend. She then skipped her way towards the patio to the mansion, leaving Niles behind walking by himself. The little boy couldn't help but sigh heavily and frown a little bit. "Yeah... it's okay..." he muttered to himself watching CC go inside the patio. "It's just pretend."
