A/N: You all might remember in "Size Of Encouragement" that Kaos was working on something. Well, this story shows what his plan is. :)

Journey For Freedom

Chapter 1

Kaos was humming happily as he ran his hand over the bubbling cauldron of liquid. "Very soon," he said.

Glumshanks looked a bit concerned. "Um, Master? Are you feeling well?" He asked. "I've never seen you this...well, chipper before."

"Oh, I'm feeling very fine, Glumshanks," the dark Portal Master said, but to the troll's surprise, his master wasn't being sarcastic, which was startling in itself.

"Um, I take it you had a good night's sleep, sir?"

"I did, because soon, I shall be the ruler of all Skylands," Kaos said. "Before I didn't think it completely through when I stole the Portal Masters' necklaces and watches, making them all forget who they were and used that spell to make the Skylosers forget. They broke through it because the spell wasn't strong enough, but this time, it will be so strong that there will be no hope for anyone, not even Master Eon."

Glumshanks looked a bit nervous. "Um, you're going to erase their memories again?" He asked.

"That and my newest creation will steal their powers from them," the evil Portal Master said. "Oh, I can just feel victory in my grasp."

The mixture bubbled furiously now and Kaos laughed in glee. "It's almost ready, Glumshanks!" He said excitedly. "Behold!"

The mixture bubbled even more furiously, rising up out of the cauldron but not spilling over. The faithful troll butler gulped as a giant mass began rising from the bubbling brew. "Yes. Yes!" The dark Portal Master said. "My newest Doomlander is coming together wonderfully!"

Glumshanks could now see the figure taking more shape and to say it was ugly was a huge understatement. The huge monster had a head with three eyes stacked on top of each other, fourteen thin arms that each had a weapon from the previous Doomlanders, legs that were armored, but thin. The troll saw that two of the monster's lower arms held swashbuckler swords while each of the others save for the four coming up behind its back held one weapon each: a shuriken, a sword, a club, a bladed staff, a sorcerer staff, a gun, and a brawler weapon. Two of the arms coming up from its back carried a bow and arrow and the other two hefted a bazooka.

Surprisingly, the creature seemed able to handle all the weight well and as it began to get too big, the cauldron expanded before gently tipping over and the monster stepped out of it as the brew bubbled and frothed around its feet before evaporating, save for a few puddles on the floor and a small, dripping puddle still in the cauldron as the monsters stood taller than any creature ever seen before.

Glumshanks sighed at the mess. "I'll go get the mop," he said to Kaos.

"Yes, yes, go ahead," Kaos said distractedly, something the troll noticed as his master wasn't angry about the mess and wasn't paying attention to him. Sighing, the faithful butler got the mop and began cleaning up the mess.

"Now," he heard his master say. "To give you all the power you need, Monster."

With that, he consulted his books for the most powerful magic and it wasn't long before he used what he had learned to power up his creation, making it big and strong. The floors actually began to crack, which worried Glumshanks a little. "Um, Master?" He said. "Not to alarm you, but the floor seems to be breaking under the monster's weight."

"Who cares about the floor?! My creation is going to be the most powerful!" Kaos exclaimed.

"Well, yes, but...you don't want him to fall through the floor, um, right?"

The dark Portal Master registered what his butler was saying and surprisingly didn't berate him for it, but instead used his magic to make the floor stronger, something that filled Glumshanks with relief, but at the same time, he was worried about his master being in such a cheerful mood. Granted, it was nice to not be yelled at for a change, but he was also worried that his master's plan wouldn't work the way his master hoped it would.

"Just look at him, Glumshanks," Kaos said proudly. "Isn't my monster magnificent?"

"Um, yes, Master," the troll said. "And...really big."

"The bigger, the better," the dark Portal Master said. "Now, he nearly has all the power he needs, but he needs to eat too. Glumshanks, go get him some dinner and make sure it's enough to feed him."

The command was said nicely, which shocked the troll. "Um, right away, Master," he said before heading out to the kitchen, his mind still worried as he made a huge banquet, which one would think was a lot for a troll, but he had learned to do things effectively so that it wouldn't take too long to make a huge meal. Plus he had been serving Kaos for a long time and after a while, things like this were easily done with a skill born from time and practice.

Delivering the huge meal, Glumshanks was appaulded when the monster dove right into the food greedily, gobbling up every bit of food and the troll, glad he had made more, delivered more food out to the monster, who began eating all of it. While the monster seemed to have no manners and the troll was feeling a bit put out because of that, he was at least glad the monster was eating the food and not throwing it back at him or spitting it out and declaring it tasteless.

"Ah yes, Monster. Eat up and you'll soon be ready," Kaos said with a grin.

"Um, Master, I don't mean to contradict you, but if he keeps eating, we'll run out of food," Glumshanks said.

"Oh, don't worry. You can go to the market tomorrow, Glumshanks," his master said distractedly.

"Um, okay."

Just then, the Monster let out a belch and stood up. "Ah, good," Kaos said. "Now then, let's see you stand up and fight."

But the monster was having a hard time with that because he had eaten so much and his legs and arms were too weak, something the dark Portal Master realized and grew angry. "Oh, you weakling!" He shouted, making Glumshanks flinch in fear. "You're supposed to be all powerful! But you can't even stand up properly! Oh, I can't believe I wasted my time and power on such a weakling!"

The monster stood up and glared at Kaos. "Um, Master?" Glumshanks asked. "He looks really angry."

"Good!" Kaos said before feeling a hand grab him and he yelled as the monster glared at him and magic began flowing from Kaos. "Wait! What are you doing, fool? Let your master go! I command you!"

"You not master," the monster growled out. "You weakling in my way."

Glumshanks quickly looked over the books that Kaos had used and he found the one to make the ultimate Doomlander and one part caught his attention. It was in small letters at the bottom of the page, like a foot note.

Before your new Doomlander goes to battle, make sure you make it be loyal to you, otherwise it will go on a rampage and steel any and all powers it can get its hands on.

"Um, Master?" The troll said timidly. "Did you by chance make the monster be loyal to you?"

Kaos' face paled as he realized that he hadn't and he began to feel weak as his powers were completely drained by the monster, which had the power to not only drain someone's powers completely, but it could also used mind control and could see one's memories. It now looked and saw Kaos' memories before it dropped him like a sack of potatoes.

"More power," the monster said, storming out of the castle to seek out Brain, who was one of the most powerful beings in Skylands along with Master Eon.

Glumshanks ran over to Kaos, who looked very weak and tired. "Oh, Master," the troll said, gently scooping him up and putting him in bed before hearing the monster roar. Looking back at his master, he had a bad feeling that soon, none of Skylands would be safe.

He also had another bad feeling. Would this be one monster that the Portal Masters and their partners wouldn't be able to stop?

Looks like the plot is thickening. Stay tuned. :)
