Heath "Texas" Kogane is a sensible man to everyone. He always paid his taxes, made time for his son, and always got to work on time, even when it was a chore to get out of bed. He was a good man; a hard-working man. That was what everyone told Keith, at least. It didn't fix everything, however. Heath being hard-working didn't change the fire he was called in for. Being sensible didn't change how his Mom left Heath to raise Keith alone. Being a good man didn't change that Keith was alone.

He took a deep breath, looking at the headstone that read his father's name and his years of life. The state took care of everything with the funeral, but Keith didn't have any money to add extra detail to the headstone. He was still a child. The funeral itself was small; Keith, his social worker, the fire department, and some of the people who Heath had saved in the past. Those who lost members nodded to Keith if their eyes met, understanding the pain he felt. Others would pat his shoulder, say words that were meant in good faith, but made Keith feel crummier about the situation.

Finally, an hour after the burial, Keith's social worker, Mr. Patterson said it was time to go. Keith turned away, leaving a broken piece of his heart in his place.

A flash of heat coursed through his mind, and the sound of groaning wood was heard above him. With the last of his strength, Heath threw the bundle of unconscious human on his shoulder through the entrance, and braced for impact-

He woke up with a gasp, taking a deep through stale lungs. His first few breaths strained his chest, causing him to wheeze and gasp in pain. His hands go for his throat, pulling at a cloth around it. A necktie, his brain suggests.

He can feel the close walls close in around him, trapping him in this dark hell with cushion- cushion? What the hell? Heath moved his hands to the walls, pushing at the soft surfaces. They were solid, not budging as he pushed. The ceiling was too close to his face, causing him to panic the most.

Heath grunted, trying in vain to get the ceiling away from him. After a moment, his heart started racing, his panic growing. His mind frantic, suddenly remembered his son. "K-Keith. Keith, where are you! Keith!" He began banging on the ceiling of the casket, trying to get his son's attention. This had to be a mistake; maybe someone made a mistake. "Buddy, get me out of here."

The banging continued as his calls to his son became pleas of letting him out, or getting help. His fear continued to build before he finally stopped, taking in deep breaths. He needed to calm down. Freaking out will not get him anywhere, only deplete his air supply.

Sweat dripping, he searched his pockets, trying to find something to help him. Heath gasped, pulling out his pocket knife and phone. He could call for help, and if it came to it, tunnel himself out.

Opening the flip-phone, he quickly dialed the Emergency Services, frantic and despite. Heath didn't know how they would react, or if his phone even worked still.

"9-1-1, what's your emergency?" Came a female voice. Heath gave an excited laugh, almost dropping his phone.

"Hello? Please, I need help. I-I think I've been buried underground. I don't know where I am." Please believe him. Please, please believe him.

"I'm sorry sir. Burred as in, with a casket?" Her tone was still professional, but he was goring worried. "Yes. I woke up, and I was underground. I don't know how long it has been, and I am worried about my air. Please, believe me."

"Okay sir. I believe you. Do you know your full name and date of birth?" He quickly gave him the information, and heard the fast typing of keys. After a minute, the lady returned. "Okay sir, I have your location, and am sending someone out to get you. It will only be a few moments. Do you have anything that could saw through the casket?" He answered 'yes'.

"Okay, I will stay on the line with you. If Services become delayed, you will need to use that to cut through the casket, and get yourself to freedom. This is only a last minute resort, though." Heath agreed, and laid back to wait.

The dispatcher asked him questions to test his memory and keep him awake, and updated him on how far out help was.

"Okay, Mr. Kogane, just a little bit longer. Services have arrived, and they need to dig you out." He thanked her, and readied himself for when the casket opened.

He could hear the muffled sound of shifting dirt, and the talking of people, when a thump range out in the casket. A shovel hitting the casket.. They found him.

They found him.

The Atlas was in high spirits, because they were a day out from Earth.

Lance was excitedly talking to Veronica about visiting their family once they got back, and how everyone was invited to come. Pidge was hanging out with her family, tinkering away at a piece of scrap metal. Hunk was away, on a video call with his family. He was the only one without family on the ship, and was starting to get homesick. Shiro was chatting with a couple crew members, including some guy named Curtis. Keith was enjoying the peace, drink in hand.

That was, until a request popped up, a video call for Keith from a local hospital in Texas. Texas State Medical; that name sounded familiar.

"Is this Keith Kogane?" A middle aged man's face showed up on screen. "Speaking." Keith replied.

"Mr. Kogane, I am aware that you are not currently on Earth, so you would most likely not know, but here recently, cases have shown up of, and you may want to sit down for this, sir." The man paused, trying to find the words.

"People coming back from the dead. Not a complete reformation of a body, mind you. If a person lost a limb, that limb stays gone; but things like illnesses disappear, and injuries that occur post-mortem heal.

"The reason I am telling you this, sir, is because a man has recently come back, and claims to be one Heath Kogane." Keith felt his stomach drop.

Hello, welcome to a new work, and the first one that is not Danny Phantom! I have been on a Voltron kick recently, and I finally decided to type this out. This is also going to be the first work that I am posting on both here and ao3 at the same time. I hope you enjoyed and see you next time!
