you look like mine (when you wear my clothes)

He didn't realise the consequences of his actions until after. He may have changed course had he known.

But then again, he may not.

Seeing JD in the red and white sweater was… certainly something.

Perry had just been trying to help in the only way he knew; he hadn't expected his own primal reaction to seeing JD wearing something of his.

And that was only the beginning.

Once he'd seen it, he couldn't unsee it. Oh, he tried to ignore the images that popped into his head at random throughout the day. He tried to give himself at least the illusion of control over his heart and his mind, but he couldn't help but want to wrap JD up in his sweater again.

Like it served as a protection for the younger man against the harshness of the world.

Because Perry had always wanted to protect him. Even when he was reprimanding him, it was about making him see that getting too involved, or not paying attention, or letting things get to him just wasn't good for him.

But it was more than that now.

Perry had—ew—a crush.

Gross.

And he'd never been more indecisive about something in his whole life.

Because the kicker was that he knew JD had a crush on him. He knew that; hell the whole hospital knew it. For the longest time, Perry had been content to ignore it.

He'd never tease JD about that—despite popular opinion, there were limits to his sharp tongue—but he hadn't thought much of it himself.

But now, well.

Could Perry do it though? It hadn't worked with Jordan, and she was tougher than JD could ever be. She could stand up to Perry's moods, his sharpness, his baggage, and she could handle it with her own forked tongue without breaking a sweat.

JD was sweet. He was nice, and he could be hurt easily, and Perry wasn't used to having that in his life.

Sure, he could manage caring and comforting for an evening, but could he manage that constantly? He wasn't so sure.

But he also wasn't sure if he could resist the bluest eyes he'd ever seen, or those pouty lips that just begged to be kissed, or, possibly most importantly, the way JD looked when he was swamped in Perry's clothes.

The break room was almost empty when Perry walked in, tired from the twenty hour shift he'd barely made it through. He'd left a sweater in there, and he wanted to grab it before he left—there was no saying what substances would be on the poor thing if he left it unattended for too long.

Except…

Newbie was curled up on the sofa, his eyes closed, his face pressed against the sweater. Perry stood by the chair, his hand resting on the back of it, almost propping him up as stared at Newbie.

How could a grown man be so goddamn cute?

JD shifted, and Perry moved, not wanting to be caught staring. He approached JD, and crouched down beside his head, tapping him gently on the arm.

"Hey, Sleeping Beauty."

JD blinked his eyes open—and wasn't that just a sight that made Perry's heart pound—yawning as he did.

"Uh. Oh. Doctor Cox. I, uh—" he seemed to realise exactly what he was snuggling to his face and blushed, pink spreading across his cheeks and the tips of his ears.

It was charming, and Perry hated himself a little for thinking as much.

"It's okay, Newb," he murmured, brushing the hair back from his face. "You should head home though, before you get roped into extra hours."

JD nodded, pushing himself up into a sitting position. "I thought I'd be better taking a nap first," he admitted quietly. "I was feeling dizzy, riding Sasha wouldn't have been my best idea."

Perry nodded. "Come on, I'll drive you home."

"You don't have to—"

"Newb. I'll drive you home."

Perry couldn't help glancing at JD continuously as he drove towards his apartment. Perry's sweater was folded neatly in his lap, JD's hands resting over it almost possessively.

Pulling up to the apartment building, Perry smiled slightly as JD startled, as though he'd had no idea how close they were.

"Thanks for the ride."

Perry nodded. When JD climbed out of the car, he put the sweater on the seat, and Perry leant over to gently grasp his wrist.

"Take it with you. You looked comfortable on it in the break room."

JD's eyes widened a little. "I—"

"I'll pick it up tomorrow. You have a day off, right?"

"Yeah, I do."

"Me too. So… I'll pick the sweater up, take you for lunch, and then we can head back and get your scooter from the hospital, hmm?"

"Are you… are you asking me on a date?"

"Would you say yes if I was?" Perry asked, arching his eyebrow.

JD nodded silently.

"Then yeah, Newb. I'm asking you on a date."

Perry had never wanted to kiss someone more than he wanted to kiss JD. His bottom lip was just so… biteable.

They'd had a nice lunch, and Perry was reluctant to part with him when they finally drove back to the hospital to pick up 'Sasha'.

Perry climbed out of the car when JD did, leaning on the bonnet as JD put his helmet on.

"I had fun," JD said, a little shyly, when he was prepared.

"Me too," Perry agreed. "We should do it again."

JD nodded eagerly, and Perry chuckled, though it soon changed to a frown. JD looked good—but he'd clearly dressed for a car, rather than to ride his scooter, and the wind was definitely picking up.

"You're going to freeze."

"It's not far," JD protested. "I'll be fine."

Huffing, Perry rounded the car to pull out the sweater. He handed it over, and watched as Newbie pulled it on.

God but he did look good.

"You… you like me wearing your clothes," JD realised, the wonder in his tone evident.

Perry snorted. "That's one way to put it, Newb."

"Why?"

Unable to help himself any longer, Perry tugged JD closer by the hand and pressed their lips together in a soft, almost chaste, kiss.

"You look like… mine," he murmured, his own lips still brushing JD's. "That's what I like. You look like you're mine when you wear my clothes."

JD smiled and initiated another kiss before he stepped back, cocking his leg over his scooter to sit down.

"I don't need to wear your sweater to be yours, Perry. I've been yours since the day I met you."
