Howls of Lament

Chapter 1

Somewhere in the Alaskan Wilderness, 1926

The leaves at Owaga's paws began to rise, encircling her body rapidly, and each inch in which they rose dissolving that part of her slowly into a fine white powder that mixed into the leaves. In this moment Frost was finally able to find his tongue.

"Owaga wait!" he cried, running toward her.

Owaga smiled at her mate.

"Let us go my love. Let your heart now be your guide to happiness." She said.

And then she was gone, leaving nothing but a circular patch of snow where she once stood and scattered fragments of leaves. Frost came to a stop in the middle of the blown circle and hung his head low in defeat. How could he just let go when the damage had already been done? How could he possibly be able to move on after such a tragic loss, of both his family and of himself? What was it that he was supposed to do?

Frost turned around to see Jenna still laying there motionless. He slowly approached her and looked down at her. The poor pregnant husky had beaten unconscious, her body was covered in scrapes, cuts, and bruises from the injuries Frost had inflicted on her. Frost felt Jenna's stomach and felt five kicks a few seconds later which signified him that Jenna's puppies were okay. Then the realization came to Frost and the horror set in. It was now only then that Frost now realized what he had done and what he had almost done.

Frost had murdered six dogs, all of them had nothing to do with death of his mate and his family...they were guiltless of what happened to Owaga. As he thought more about it...Frost remembered that one of the dogs that he killed mentioned that he had a mate who was expecting their first litter...and now that dog's mate is a single mother, probably wondering why her mate never returned home, and those pups now had to grow up without their father.

And Frost nearly did the same to Jenna, if Owaga hadn't appeared and intervened Jenna along with her six unborn puppies would have died and their blood would join with the blood of the other six dogs he murdered that were already on his paws for all eternity.

The horror and reality became too much for Frost, that he vomited out of disgust.

"W-What have I done!?" He cried to himself.

Frost's legs became jelly as lost his will to stand, Frost soon fell to the ground and sobbed loudly from the guilt.

After a few minutes of crying, Frost felt someone's eyes fixate on him, causing him to lift his head to see Jenna staring at him with a confused look that was mixed with fear. The two just stared at each other not saying a word but a few minutes later Frost finally stood up and approach Jenna. Frost noticed her flinch a little as he approached her, she was scared of him and Frost couldn't blame her after everything that he and Kamazi had done to her, Jenna had every right to be scared of him.

He sighed and shook his head.

"Come on dog." He said, for once his voice was calm.

Jenna finally found her voice

"W-Where are we going?" She squeaked with a tremble of fear.

"Back to the den." He said as he walked passed her.

Jenna watch him walk pass her and head toward the den.

Frost stopped and turned around to see Jenna still laying there confused.

"You want to freeze to death out here? Come on!" He said.

After a few moments of thinking Jenna reluctantly stood up (which was proven difficult due to her being heavily pregnant) and followed Frost back to the den.

Meanwhile, on the top of the hill, Kamazi sat the entrance of the den chuckling sinisterly while Timber laid in a few dens away silently sobbing as the sound of Jenna's screams of agony jabbed into her skull.

Kamazi grinned wickedly as he watch his father walk up the hill, but was a little confused to see Frost frowning. But other than that, Frost had done it, he had rid the world of another one of those savages...well at least that what Kamazi thought.

"So did you do it? How did you do it? Did you sink you fangs into her and did she plead for her life? Oh and please tell me that you also ripped her unborn puppies out of her stomach oh that would have been glorious!" Kamazi asked with an evil grin on his face.

Frost didn't reply he looked over his shoulder to see Jenna coming up the hill behind him. Kamazi expression shifted from pleasure to shock and disgust, he was anything but happy to see that Frost for some reason had seemingly spared Jenna.

"What!? She's alive!?" Kamazi demanded to his father.

"Yes." Frost replied.

"Why!?" Kamazi snarled.

Frost looked at Jenna and he sighed.

"Because she's innocent." He said.

"INNOCENT?! She's a husky, she and her humans are the reason why mother, Lundy, Ice Wind, Kana, Juneau, and Calil are dead!" Kamazi shouted reminding his father.

Frost sighed.

"Kamazi, just listen to me..." He started.

"NO! I will not listen to anything you have to say!" Kamazi snarled arrogantly.

"And if you won't kill the dog, then I'll do it myself!" He added.

Kamazi then turned to face Jenna, before Jenna could react Kamazi lunged at her ready to finish what his father couldn't. In that moment Frost felt a wave of adrenaline surge through his body and before he knew what he was doing he put himself between Kamazi and Jenna in a defensive stance.

Kamazi got over the initial surprise and he glared angrily at his father.

"What are you doing!?" He snarled.

Frost then slowly uttered four words.

"Leave the husky alone..."

Balto grunted as he tried to futilely fall asleep, but sleep never came. His mind was rushing with thoughts. It had been four days since he had arrived here at this den, after 'the incident'. The incident that resulted in the death of his sled team by the paws of grizzly attack, and it also resulted in his shattered spine.

Balto sighed sadly, if it weren't for that damn grizzly he would have been home with Jenna, he should be cherishing every moment with her as they prepared to begin their new lives as parents. But now all of that was taken away from him.

This meant he wouldn't be there at Jenna's side when she gave birth to their pups, he won't be there to witness their birth, and next to that meant Balto would completely miss getting the chance to raise his pups, that he would miss his opportunity to be a father, and it hurt him deeply to think that his pups would have to grow up without their father in their lives. Again he sighed, laid his head down on his paws, closed his eyes and for the tenth time tried to fall asleep.

At some point Balto finally managed to fall asleep, and he had a dream about being home with Jenna, with their pups, with his family. But he was awoken when someone said.

"Knock, knock."

"J-Jenna?" Balto asked groggily.

Balto opened his eyes but to his disappointment it wasn't Jenna, it was only Ceuni.

"Oh it's just you." He said trying to hide his disappointment.

"Yeah, just me." Cenui said.

After a moment of silence, Balto finally asked.

"What are you doing here, shouldn't you be asleep?"

"I couldn't sleep so I decided to check in and see how you were doing." Ceuni replied.

"Well as you can see, you woke me up from a pleasant dream, and I would greatly appreciate it if you would go away and let me get some rest." Balto said to her coldly.

Ceuni sighed and nodded.

"Okay...I understand, good night." She said.

Balto watched Ceuni turn around and begin to slowly walk out the den. Balto then sighed.

"Ceuni." Balto said

She stopped and turned around.

"Yes, Balto?" Ceuni asked.

"I know this is an odd request but could you...stay with me?" Balto said.

Ceuni looked at Balto a bit surprised.

"Stay with you?" She asked.

Balto nodded.

"Why?" Ceuni asked.

"Because I feel like we started things off on the wrong paw here, and I was hoping we could start things over." Balto replied.

Ceuni smiled she then walked over to Balto and she laid down next to him.

"Alright then, Balto I'll stay." She said.

Balto smiled back at her.

"Thank you." He said.

"Your welcome."

Ceuni then laid her head down next to Balto's, she closed her eyes and quickly fell asleep. Balto smiled as listen to her soft inhales and exhales.

Wow, I never thought I say this but Ceuni is very beauti... Balto thought to himself but shook his head shaking the damn sentence out of his head after realizing what he had just thought.

Wait, what am I thinking?! Jenna is my mate and I love her! I do not love Ceuni!

Balto then laid his head back down, and frowned.

But...does she still love me?

A/N: Hello everyone, drewdog302 here and welcome to "Howls of Lament" the official sequel to Mojotheomegawolf's story "Two Worlds". Funny thing is that this is my first Balto story I have published on this site since the "Balto: The Parallel Timeline" trilogy so it's been a while since I did a Balto stoy. Also I want to say thank you to Mojotheomegawolf for making this story possible, be sure to check out their account if you want to see more of their content.

I also apologize if the chapter seemed a little rushed, I was trying to get this published as soon as possible. And now some of you who read the synopsis are probably wondering "If this story is focused around Aleu, then how come she's isn't featured in the first chapter?" and to answer your question yes this story is focused around Aleu, she hasn't been born yet so until Aleu's birth the first few chapters will focus around Balto and Jenna after the events of "Two Worlds".

Now to anyone here who are confused, well here's a little bit of backstory. Back in 2016 when my account was a full fledged Balto Account, I was given the rights to "Two Worlds" by Mojotheomegawolf after I asked them if I could continue it for them, however even though I was given the rights to continue "Two Worlds" I never come around to making it mainly because I was focused on making other stories and also because I hated the original ideas I had in mind for the continuation. But a few weeks ago, for some reason I remembered the project and decided to open the project and get it done for REAL this time but I have decided to continue Two Worlds with a direct sequel rather than just me rewriting the story.

And I also want to clarify that the entire backstory is all 100% true and you can even ask Mojo yourself if you don't believe me.

But other than that guys I hoped you enjoyed the chapter, make sure you give the story a favorite or a follow it really helps, tell me what your thoughts on the story in the reviews that also helps alot. Make sure also check out my other stories "Star Trek: Yin", "Star Trek: Yesterday's Agents", "Dodger's Princess", and "Golden Strays".

Anyways that's all for now I hope you enjoyed the story and as always thank you all for the support, and I will see you all in the next chapter.
