Chapter Twenty-One

Several minutes later...

City Hall…

Senator Romero was feeling knots in his stomach as he listened to Mayor Max Orlsen talking, as he wondered how progress was going in finding his daughter and if his ex-wife played a part in it at all. He had always wondered what was really going on with Lydia but whatever it was, it tore them apart, along with any other issues they were having at the moment.

He continued to listen to Orlsen talking about some of the issues he wants the Senator to bring up at the Senate, as Los Angeles was having some issues with homelessness and a rise in crime, which were related and Romero was trying to figure out how to work a bill out of that, along with the other bills he was working on.

'I just want the girls home safe.' He thought to himself before the mayor finished talking about the homelessness issue and asked what Romero thought about the situation.

Before Romero could answer, there was a commotion outside the room and the door was shot up and saw one Brian Gomez entering the room, much to Romero's horror, as he had hoped that he would never have to see this man again.

"Brian? What are you doing here?" Romero asked, hoping to stall for time until someone figured out what was going on.

"Doing what I should have done a long time ago, getting rid of my useless brother-in-law and making sure no one ever sees you again." Brian answered as he shoved both the terrified Romero and the Mayor onto the couch with a terrifying smirk on his face.

"Brian, you have to know, Lydia really did all those things that she was accused of..." Romero said desperately, before being cut off by the angry man.

"Sure, you say that, but Lydia was straight as an arrow before you met her and she is nothing more than a useless blithering mess who needs to be set straight once again, no thanks to you." Brian accused

"What could I have done to cause her to be that way, when we met she presented herself as someone was fine and sober and it was only when we got married several months later when she showed her true self, someone who gets involved with business that she shouldn't and soon dragged us into legal issues and nearly endangering our daughter several times before and after the divorce, it was on her own, I didn't do anything to contribute." Romero said, as he never would do anything to bring someone into addiction, it was something that Lydia was probably dealing with for years, long before he met her.

"You're lying, Romero, she had never done any drugs and she had a bright future ahead of her." Brian shouted at the top of his lungs, causing Romero and Orlsen to flinch at the man's outburst.

"Sir, I am sure we could come to some kind of agreement," Orlsen said, hoping to get out of this mess alive.

"There is nothing that I am interested in, except that you both pay for not doing enough for Lydia." Brian said coldly

"How am I involved with this?" Orlsen asked, now just as confused as he was terrified.

"Just that you and Romero have conspired against her and our family to tarnish our name and, for that, you are just as responsible." Brian said, now just rambling.

"Orlsen has nothing to do with this." Romero said, "Just let us and the others go and I will prove to you that you are wrong about all of this."

"Oh, how are you going to do that? Concote fake evidence in a vain attempt to convince me that you didn't do anything wrong in regards to Lydia? Because that is not going to work." Brian said before aiming his gun at Romero but was interrupted by another gun being cocked on his head.

"What?" Brian stuttered before seeing one Megan Reeves pointing the gun at him with the other two agents, Colby and David behind her, pointing their own guns at him.

"Brian Gomez, lower your weapon and surrender, please." Megan said before Brian started to chuckle before saying

"Like you even have a chance, Agent." Before turning to face her, ready for a fight against those who stood in his way.

"I will not repeat myself, lower your weapon." Megan ordered as Colby and David got ready for a fight.

"I was about to say the same thing," Another voice said, making Brian smile as he saw Sam Camden coming to his rescue.

"Just do it, agents. It would be easier on all of us." Camden said, as he saw that he could potentially get the upper hand

Megan wondered who the man was but she refused to give up that easily and, without any further thought in her decision, turned around and lunged at the man in front of her.
