After the Solo Quest II landed next to the Jade Shadow opposite from where the Millennium Falcon landed in the hangar bay of Shedu Maad's Jedi Temple, the Chiss Sith infiltrator Vekta was taken directly to the medbay like Lumiya. There, he was placed in a transparisteel cell, constructed just for him, that was adjacent to the one containing the veiled Dark Lady of the Sith. The caged ysalamir was stationed directly between them for the sole purpose of nullifying their Force-powers; and with their Jedi captors having activated the noise-cancellation features of their cells, there was no feasible way either of the Sith could communicate with one another unless they could read each other's lips (which would have been impossible for Vekta, considering that he was unable to view Lumiya's mouth).

But even if they could do that, they chose not to engage even in that kind of conversation. Instead, they just sat in their cells motionlessly like mannequins. The only difference between them was that Lumiya's chair also acted as an advanced colostomy storage-and-disposal unit while Vekta still had the dignity of being able to go to his cell's refresher like an independent sentient being.

After Vekta had been brought in, he and Lumiya were completely alone in the medbay for about an hour before a middle-aged male Muun entered carrying a black briefcase. He walked toward Vekta's cell, set the briefcase down on the floor beside him, opened it up to reveal a slew of primitive-looking torture devices, and then deactivated the Chiss' cell's noise-cancellation.

"Hello there," the Muun said in an emotionless tone. "My name is Flint. I will be your interrogator for as long as you are unwilling to give the Galactic Alliance any information pertaining to the nature of your organization's involvement with the Chiss Ascendancy."

Vekta arched an eyebrow, as if he didn't know what Flint was talking about, even as he stood up from his seat and approached the cell's exit. "My organization's involvement with the Chiss Ascendancy? I don't know what you could possibly-"

Flint cut the Chiss off by reaching around to his back and producing Vekta's lightsaber, which he promptly activated. The red blade was held steadily in the Muun's hand for a few seconds before he deactivated the weapon and replaced it behind him.

"Jedi Master Durron explained to me how he captured you," Flint stated, his tone unwavering. "He said that for a Sith, you were shockingly easy to defeat in the lightsaber duel you two had. Personally, I, too, had long been under the assumption that the Sith were a deadly, dangerous enemy to the Jedi. But you, Mister Vekta, seem to be quite a pathetic specimen for your Force-sect. I imagine that due to your low level of skill, your Master or Masters probably saw it fitting that they would place you as a mere sensor officer on a Star Destroyer that wasn't even of any special worth in the Chiss' fleet."

At that, Vekta chuckled. "I see what you're doing, Mister Flint, and I must say, I think you're quite a pathetic specimen as an interrogator."

"Oh, really?" Flint asked with a simple tilt of his head and still no change in his inflection. "How so?"

"You're trying to attack my sense of ego and vanity as a Sith," Vekta answered.

"So you admit that you're a Sith."

"That's already apparent. I haven't given you anything you don't already know."

"That maybe true. Still, I have to wonder, if you think that your status as a Sith is so stable, how did the Jedi possibly find you in the midst of such a raging battle in the Calamari system?"

Vekta remained silent with that question.

"Was it because you weren't strong enough with your Force-powers to properly cloak yourself from their senses?" Flint asked.

"You're still going down that line of questioning?" Vekta asked. However, this time, his tone had grown impatient already.

"It couldn't be that you simply forgot to cloak yourself through the Force," Flint continued, as if his subject hadn't said anything. "That would be a pretty stupid and careless mistake for an oh-so-cunning Sith to make."

At that, a muscle in Vekta's cheek twitched.

"Well, regardless of how the Jedi found you and captured you, Mister Vekta," Flint continued, "you were captured. And I have to wonder, would anyone else in your Sith organization think that you were worth saving? Would someone of your low rank in their hierarchy know anything of any particular importance that might prompt them to save you or kill you should they ever somehow get to this planet without the Jedi knowing about it?"

"I would rather die than betray..." Vekta trailed off before he could give away whether he had one Master or more.

"Betray who? Your fellow Sith? If you could do that, why haven't you already? Tell me, I'm relatively unfamiliar with Chiss physiology compared to other species in the galaxy, so I must ask, does cyanide work as a method of suicide for your people?" When Vekta didn't answer that, Flint continued with, "Well, regardless of whatever method of suicide the Chiss or Sith may use if captured, you would probably have already used it by now if you were to truly die for whatever cause you have in mind, Mister Vekta. So, clearly, your loyalty to the Sith is not as strong as you would lead me to believe. It's as if that loyalty is somehow tied in with your powers."

Vekta sneered. "Nice try. But you really have to find another line of questioning if you truly want to get to me. And I doubt you really bring those tools in to actually use."

"Oh, no, I have used these tools quite extensively in my career, Mister Vekta, and I would have no problem using them if you continue to refuse to cooperate with me."

"Then you might as well start using them now, because I'm not telling you vermin anything just by making fun of my powers."

"Making fun, Mister Vekta? Oh, no, this is not fun for me. This is me merely making a simple, factual observation of your abilities. Even with your Sith nature, you're no more fascinating to me than anyone else I've interrogated in my career."

"Some career you have. Your subjects must have been really easy to crack, especially if you've had to actually use those tools quite extensively. Then again, if you had to use them, I imagine you're probably not that great of an interrogator. In fact, any good interrogator probably would have used those tools very few times in his career, if ever."

"So would any good Sith have been captured like you, Mister Vekta?"

The Chiss sighed in annoyance. "You're so circular, you know that, Mister Flint? Now I have to wonder if you just annoyed your subjects into compliance before you ever had to actually torture them."

"They've never considered me annoying, Mister Vekta. On the contrary, my subjects have admitted that they thought I was quite charming. Did your Masters think the same for you? Is that why they accept someone of your low skill into their ranks?"

Vekta laughed at that. "You always find a way to reach back around to whether or not I impressed my Masters. You know, Mister Flint, you really have to-"

"Ah. So you have more than one Master."

"What? No, I didn't say that."

"Yes, you did. You said 'Masters.' More than one. So the Sith have decided to forgo their Rule of Two, have they, and revert to their ancient ways of being as numerous as the Jedi? If I recall my history correctly, the Sith being so numerous was what led to their downfall in the Seventh Battle of Ruusan well over a thousand years ago. What makes you think this Sith Order you serve can avoid that same fate, Mister Vekta?"

"I'm not telling you anything," Vekta said as he crossed his arms over his chest.

"If there is one trait that I know that all Sith have in common, Mister Vekta, it's that they are all self-serving to one degree or another. I have to wonder, how can your own self-serving nature truly coexist with whatever loyalty you may have to your Masters? Surely, I would think that even you would come to realize that you may benefit more if you were to betray them and go your own way."

"As I said, I would die before I did that," Vekta said with conviction; his arms, however, remained crossed over his chest.

"I can make you a deal, Mister Vekta, on behalf of the Galactic Alliance. You tell me everything you know about your Sith organization's involvement with the Chiss Ascendancy, and I promise you that-"

"That what? That your pathetic vermin forces can protect me from the wrath of my Masters? That I could go and live my life as an independent Sith? I doubt the Jedi would allow you to do that for me, or that the Galactic Alliance could let me live that kind of life even if they could go behind the Jedi's backs."

"You would be shocked, Mister Vekta, if I were to tell you the kind of deals that the GA has had to make for the greater good."

"Oh, really? Do tell."

"I was merely stating a hypothetical. It's not my place to actually divulge the details of any deals that may or may not have happened within the GA's jurisdiction."

"Of course it's not," Vekta replied with a sneer. "But even if I were to somehow believe your lie that the GA would allow me to go free if I betrayed my Masters, again, the Jedi would never allow it."

"And what makes you think that they would know about it, Mister Vekta?"

"Because they're listening in on this conversation."

"What makes you think that?"

"What wouldn't make me think that? Whenever there's Sith involvement, the Jedi can't not get involved."

Without missing a beat, Flint said, "Mister Vekta, what if I were to tell you that the Jedi know nothing about this conversation right now?"

"That's preposterous! We're in the medbay of their Temple! And none of them are here in this room, so they must be listening in from elsewhere!"

"And if I were to provide undeniable proof of their lack of involvement?"

Vekta scoffed. "What proof could you possibly have that would convince me?"

Flint raised an arm up to his mouth. "Bring them in."

A moment later, three Galactic Alliance soldiers entered the medbay, each of them dragging the three Jedi who brought Vekta in under their combined Force-hold by the back of their collars. It was evident that all three Jedi were unconscious even before the soldiers laid them out between Vekta's cell and Flint, who had stepped back to allow room.

Again, however, Vekta scoffed. "This is a simple trick. If you really were to let me out of this cell and I were to go and kill those Jedi for myself, they would simply get up from their faked unconsciousness to attack and disarm me."

"But what would that accomplish, Mister Vekta?" Flint asked. "We would be right back at square one with you. However, if this is real, you would have secured your ticket to freedom. And besides, we're still well within the ysalamir's Force-repressing field; they would not be so able to defend themselves against you."

"As if that ysalamir isn't doing anything to me," Vekta countered sourly.

Flint shrugged. "Well, Mister Vekta, if you're not convinced, I suppose we'll have to continue our little chat. Because that ticket to freedom will be gone as soon as those three Jedi are dragged out of here." He then looked to the soldiers and nodded wordlessly; in response, the trio of troops resumed their hold on the collars of the three unconscious Jedi and began making their way for the medbay's exit.

Once the soldiers were about to leave, Vekta said, "Wait."

"Stop," Flint ordered; the soldiers obeyed without question. The Muun then looked back at Vekta and asked, "Yes?"

"Do you really mean to tell me that you have a battalion of Galactic Alliance soldiers that have just overrun the Jedi Temple and at least incapacitated, if not killed, every Jedi here?" Vekta asked. "Because I can't imagine how you have those Jedi healers unconscious otherwise; ignoring the idea that this is a trick, of course."

"Would you like to find out, Mister Vekta?" Flint asked.

The Chiss' eyes narrowed. "If this is a trick, you will be the first to die for it, Mister Flint."

"Duly noted," Flint replied, still emotionless. "But just know that if you kill me as soon as you step out of this cell, those soldiers will shoot you dead before you have a chance to get out of the Force-repressing field or kill that ysalamir."

"Duly noted," Vekta echoed.

With only a moment's hesitation, the Muun then opened Vekta's cell door and handed him his lightsaber. The Sith took it and then slowly advanced on the unconscious forms of the three Jedi and the GA soldiers surrounding them; he stopped midway just to relish the feeling of the Force flowing through him again before he resumed his slow trek.

When Vekta finally reached their forms, he activated his lightsaber, his stance tensed for any expected activity. When none came from the Jedi, he swiped at their heads.

And with one clean stroke, he decapitated all three of them.

Stunned, Vekta reeled back a couple steps as he looked down the headless corpses. He looked back and forth between the bodies and Flint a few times before he grinned upon looking at the exit.

"Well, now, Mister Flint," Vekta said without looking away from the door, "looks like you got yourself a deal." Less than a second after that, the back of his neck itched, prompting him to scratch it. He didn't think anything of it before he brushed past the soldiers and walked out the door.

When he was out in the corridor, he saw Jedi bodies littered here and there with blaster bolts permeating their bodies. At one point, he saw the Master who brought him in, Kyp Durron, lying dead with multiple burn bolts across his chest; Vekta kicked the corpse in the side before he spat upon it.

The Chiss continued to explore the Temple, seeing more and more dead Jedi bodies before he came across the soldiers who killed them. Even the famed Jacen Solo lay among the dead, a blaster bolt between his eyes, as Flint followed along in his wake.

"Would you like to visit the Grand Master's office, Mister Vekta?" the Muun asked.

The Chiss looked at the other alien and grinned at his implication.

Minutes later, they had reached said office, and at the sight of Luke Skywalker's body riddled with blaster bolts, Vekta couldn't help but squeal in delight like a teenage girl.

"So tell us, Mister Vekta," Flint said from behind him, "just how far does your Sith's involvement go into the Chiss Ascendancy?"

At that point, Vekta didn't even care that he would be betraying Lord Krayt or the rest of the One Sith. With the Jedi now having fallen—or at least all the important ones here having died—the Chiss Sith had little doubt that there was anything that these pitiful vermin could do to stop the One Sith's plans from going forward. So there was no reason why he shouldn't tell the truth to the man who just set him free and help bring about the downfall of the Jedi Order.

He looked at the Muun and said, "All I know is that if you want to know the full details of just how deep our organization goes into the Ascendancy, Mister Flint, you might want to have a conversation with both Admirals Ulaska and Iosha."

"Thank you, Mister Vekta, for your cooperation," Flint said.

The Chiss Sith was suddenly enveloped by Electric Judgment from behind, and he dropped to the floor, unconscious, within moments.

Then the form of Luke Skywalker, riddled with blaster bolts, rose up, and the burn marks disappeared from his body.

"And thank you, Master Skywalker, for your cooperation," Flint said to the human.

Luke only nodded in return before he left the office and wordlessly brushed past Kenth Hamner, who returned to it. Shortly after, the GA soldiers who had brought the three Jedi that Vekta "killed" in the medbay brought him back there, and they passed by all the Jedi who were seen to be dead, including Jacen and Kyp.

But before Jacen saw Vekta's form returned to the medbay, he had intercepted Luke and said, "Thank you, Uncle Luke. I knew I couldn't have held up that kind of illusion for long by myself, so-"

"Think nothing of it, Jacen," Luke said. "My time with Ben might be important, but that doesn't mean I will shirk my duties in helping to end this war if I'm needed." He then resumed his trek back for his room, where Ben was being looked after by Han and Leia.
