True Maggie hadn't thought to check the caller before taking the call with a quick "Sawyer" as she finishes unlocking her cruiser after getting her morning caffeine fix.

"Yeah, I got it right." A child's voice on the other end of the line giggles "The numbers was blurry and some of them were in twos so I wasn't sure I pushed the right ones." She explains "I kinda hit my head kinda hard after the car was hit."

Maggie's police instincts took over at the mention of a possible car crash. "You say the car you were in was hit?" she questions

"Uh-Hua." The child agrees "It was scary but then it was cool cause Supergirl was there, and she got Mommy and me out."

That made Maggie breathe a little easier knowing that Kara had interviewed before things had gotten far more tragic. "Is Supergirl still with you? Could I talk to her, for a second?" the cop asks gently still dreading just how the child had gotten her number in the first place.

"No, she had to leave a few seconds ago." The child was sad now and Maggie couldn't blame her too much. Kara just had that effect on people. "-then I 'membered Mommy saying she was friend wif a police lady. That you were good. Like Supergirl." She hears making her feel a little guilty she hadn't been paying better attention to what was being said.

"Cole?"

Maggie swears her heart stops for a few beats as the pieces click together at the sounds of Eliza Danvers's voice on the other end of the line followed by a broken "Grammy."

Alex had a daughter now. She was talking to Alex's kid right now. She was talking to Alex's kid and Alex and her daughter had been in a serious car accident.

Maggie waits as the line jostles no doubt signaling that the worried woman was in the middle of giving the young girl a comforting hug. "You're safe now sweetie. I promise." Eliza soothes in her ear and Maggie was a little jealous that she wasn't the one getting the calming embrace at the moment but at the same time, she feels a little of the suffocating tightness in Maggie's chest loosened now she knew the child was safe.

"Is that Alex's phone honey?" Eliza asks

"Tara and me were playing a game when we got hit." The little girl sniffed "Grammy, Grammy Tara. My head hurt too much to ask Supergirl to get her out too." The child's voice says suddenly panicked at the realization.

Maggie's blood ran cold at the mention of yet another victim.

"Your Aunt Kara already asked Supergirl to go back for her sweetie, don't worry." Eliza comforts.

"Annie Kara is here?" the girl hiccupped

"Not right now honey. She went with Supergirl to get Tara for you." Eliza covers.

"Who's Tara?" Maggie probes still amazed she hadn't already broken several traffic laws getting to whatever hospital they'd been taken to as she listens in over the still open line.

"My friend." The child answers. "Mommy got her for me as a present when we went to the zoo with Mama."

"Who are you talking to, ColaBear?" Eliza asks at the unexpected answer. Apparently, she hadn't thought the phone was in any state to make calls.

"You wanna talk to the police lady too?" the child- Cole?- asks hopefully

"The police lady?" Eliza asks surprised

"Uh-Huh. I 'membered Mommy telling Mama one night that she had a friend who was a police lady. Mommy said Miss Sawyer was really smart so I was gonna ask for her to catch the bad man who hurt Mommy when he didn't stop."

"Can I see the phone for a second, sweetie?" Eliza coaxes. "You're not in trouble bear cub." She adds quickly when even Maggie can hear the scared break in the child's breathing. "I promise sweetie you're not in trouble." Eliza backpedals "here how about you give Mr. Pickles a hug for a while instead? I know he's just as upset as we are about Mommy."

Maggie feels a smile pull at her lips at the mention of the plushy otter toy she'd seen Alex snuggling with the few times she'd been forced to stay home either too sickly or laid up a broken bone to leave the house before Maggie hears the phone being trained over and a soft "Maggie?" over the line.

After a shaky breath, the cop answers with a light "Hey, Eliza." As the cop pushes her long hair out of her eyes in a guilty kind of way. After their breakup, the Danvers Matriarch had attempted to keep in touch with her, but it had been too hard on Maggie to keep that line open.

"I'm sorry you had to hear about this like this." Eliza sighs and Maggie knew she wasn't just talking about finding out her ex-fiancée had been involved in a car accident.

"It's alright." Maggie lied swirling her now cold coffee around its to-go cup with her free hand. "I'm glad Alex finally got her shot at motherhood." She said honestly as she feels the start of tears sting her eyes. "now what about Tara?" she sniffs blinking them away.

"Oh, Tara is the polar bear toy Alex picked up for cub the first time she and Mel took Cola to the zoo," Eliza explains and Maggie can hear the smile in her voice as she talked. "Seems you aren't the only one in Alex's life that likes Tiramisu," Eliza adds and Maggie can hear the teasing smile in her voice at the low giggle of child-like laughter floats over the line no doubt due to the motherly woman tickling the younger girl.

"Alex at a zoo," Maggie sighed remembering the few times she'd gone with her then-girlfriend. Considering they'd been broken up nearly four years to the day Maggie wasn't surprised to hear her ex was seeing someone new. That didn't mean it was any easier to take but it wasn't until she heard Eliza's agreeing chuckle that she realized her whispered "Nerd." Hadn't been as in her head as she'd thought.

"That was a fun trip." Cole's voice sighs sleepily. "Grammy wanna listen to Mama's song."

"Just a second sweetie." Eliza promises

"Don't worry about its Liza." Maggie waves off before letting out a small giggle when she realizes neither could see the movement. "But would it be alright if I stopped by for a short visit later?" if she timed it right, she could at least spend a little time with Eliza before getting out of dodge. She wasn't inertly sure how any other of the Danvers women would feel about her hanging around.

"You better, missy" Maggie fidgets under the scolding motherly tone in her ear. "Please, Maggie. If nothing else come say hi to me maybe meet Cole. I know she wants to meet you." Eliza backpedals and over the line, Maggie can already hear little snores signaling the child has already fallen into a deep sleep.

She was about to give her answer when a telltale woosh thump sounded from the alleyway close to where she'd had to park in front of the coffee shop. A glance to her right confirmed it as Kara gives her a small greeting wave still dressed in all her blue-painted clade Supergirl glory before quickly changing into her more normal street clothes whilst Maggie reaches over to unlock the passenger side door for her.

It had been a while since she'd seen more than after the fact new coverage on her that it wasn't until her almost sister-in-law was sitting in the passenger seat of her car that she realized the changes in the blonde now walking at a much more human pace toward the car.

"Nice job on the suite upgrade." Maggie comments as Kara slides into the car and closes the door behind herself.

"I know. Pants, right?" Kara answers with one of her softer smiles as she both straightens her glasses and buckles her seatbelt. "also, nice job on your promotion. Captain Sawyer."

"We going someplace?" Maggie questions attempting to hide her blush at the praise as she finds herself copying the blonde in fastening the seatbelt.

"If you don't mind." Kara nodes gesturing to the battered white something now resting in her lap. "I know for a fact a certain little girl can't go more than a night without her best toy friend close by, even if she does have Mr. Pickles for a temporary substitute." The super explains dusting of more broken glass from the bear's grimy grey fur. "If it's not too much trouble that is." Kara adds suddenly nervous as if she'd overstepped some inviable boundary line.

Maggie laughs passing over the still connected call with a passive "find but talk to your mother for a while would you." as she starts the car
