Ta da! Here is the top secret story I've been working on. I hope you enjoy. Just a couple of quick notes before we begin.

1. This takes place between my fic Ride and the events of Cars 3.

2. Each chapter is narrated by a different character, so please check the top of each page to avoid confusion.

3. This does feature quite a few OCs. A couple of them are humans, but the canon characters are still cars.

4. The title is a reference to the Diary of Wimpy Kid book. I took a little bit of inspiration from that book, but a lot of it comes from my own imagination and experiences.

5. There are going to be a couple of Easter eggs in the story, but I don't expect you to get them all. It's really more for my own entertainment than yours.

6. Disclaimer: All recognisable car-acters belong to Disney/Pixar. Any OCs belong to me, unless otherwise stated.

Now, without further ado, I give you The Getaway!

The Getaway

Prologue

Luigi's POV

The cold! I have never been able to stand it. I thought I would never be cold, living in the middle of the desert, but I was sorely mistaken.

Sometimes, it does not seem so bad around Christmastime. The joy of the holiday can be a very good distraction from the miserable weather. But now, Christmas is over. That is why I was miserable on Boxing Day.

I entered the nice, warm café and was greeted by my friends. I tried to return their greetings, but my jaw was frozen solid.

Fudge, my fifteen-year-old daughter and the love of my life, giggled. "Enjoying the nice weather?" she teased. For some reason, she likes this weather. I know my daughter is different to other people and I try very hard to understand her, but I will never understand how anyone could enjoy this cold weather.

I gave Fudge a Look, but I could not help smiling. I think she is the only one who could make me smile just then.

Thankfully, Flo took pity on me. "I got just the thing to warm you up, honey!" She gave me a can of hot oil. It was exactly what I needed.

"Grazie", I told her when I could talk. "It is so cold out there!"

"Well, you better get used to it, soldier". Sarge spoke up. "According to the weather report, it's gonna get even colder for the next week."

I was too horrified to respond.

"You gotta be kidding me!" McQueen exclaimed through chattering teeth.

"I never thought we'd have weather like this here", Sally remarked.

I nodded. "I know. I was just thinking that."

"If you're cold, go park in a corner!" Fudge suggested. It was obvious by her big smirk and wide eyes that she was about to make a pun. "Corners are ninety degrees!"

A few of the others groaned. McQueen threw a scrunched-up napkin at her.

"You know", Ramone began thoughtfully (at least, I think it was Ramone), "maybe we should escape somewhere warmer for a little while."

"I think that is an excellent idea", I agreed.

McQueen's eyes widened. "Yeah!"

Everyone else seemed to like the idea.

Only Fudge was skeptical. "Do we need to do that?"

"Uh... Have you been out there, Fudge?" Ramone asked.

"There's nothing wrong with the weather", she informed us.

"Nothing wrong with it?!" I repeated in astonishment. I worry about my daughter sometimes.

"You've officially lost it, Fudge", McQueen declared.

"I thought you said I officially lost it four months ago when you found me talking to Jennyfur."

We all laughed.

"So, where are we going?" Sally asked.

That was a very interesting question. No one knew the answer. We all fell silent, thinking.

"You know where I've always wanted to go?" McQueen began finally. "The Freewheeler Islands. You know, off the coast of Florida, near the Bahamas. Some of the scenery there is supposed to be amazing!"

"I've wanted to go there since Robert and Julia went there for their honeymoon", Flo put in. Robert and Julia were two humans who used to live in Radiator Springs. "The photos they brought back were just stunning."

"So close to nature, man", Fillmore added. "I'm already feelin' a lot of love."

Sarge made a face, but he seemed enthusiastic too. "There should be plenty of great hiking opportunities." Both he and Fillmore liked nature, but for different reasons.

"And theme parks on the main island!" Fudge chimed in excitedly. "Zara's been there and told me they're awesome!"

Everyone laughed at my child's enthusiasm, but I could not help frowning at the mention of Zara. She had been a so-called friend of Fudge's late last year and early this year and I did not like her at all. She was rude, lazy and just a bad influence. Unfortunately, she proved me right and she had broken Fudge's heart.

"Dad-gum! That sounds fun!" Mater exclaimed.

Sarge looked at my daughter in confusion. "I thought you didn't want to go."

"I never said that", Fudge corrected him. "I just don't mind this weather. If we organise a trip, I'll go."

I smiled. I knew she'd come if Guido and I did. She was fifteen, but still very dependent on us and did not like to be separated from us.

By the end of the day, our trip was arranged: flights, hotels, everything. Only Red, Sheriff and Lizzie were staying behind. The three of them did not tend to travel out of Radiator Springs very often anyway. (Lizzie and Red did not like to and Sheriff was too dedicated to his job.) The rest of us would be in the Freewheeler Islands for two weeks. We were leaving on January the second on a night flight and would be there from the third to the seventeenth, careful not to interfere with Fudge's upcoming trip to the hospital or the upcoming racing season.

So, that was how it all began. And, in a way, I believe I am the one to thank.

I decided to make them go to a fictional place, so I didn't have to worry about inaccuracies.

I know that was short, but that was just a prologue. The other chapters will be longer. Please review and let me know what you think. Thanks! :)
