As the morning sun rises, its orangish-yellow light glistens and fills the bedroom with warmth and light. Chip is the first one who wakes up. Yawning, he notices that Dale is still sleeping soundly, his head resting on his chest. With a smile, Chip slowly and carefully gets out of bed, making sure not to wake Dale up, before heading downstairs for breakfast.

40 minutes later, Chip comes back to the bedroom, carrying a tray that has a plate with two sunny side up eggs and five pieces of bacon, and a glass of orange juice. Dale is still asleep, but Chip decides it is time he woke him up.

"Good morning, little brother. Your breakfast is ready." Chip says casually.

Dale finally awakens and slowly sits up.

"What time is it?" Dale asks, yawning and rubbing his eyes with the back of his paws.

"It's 10:40." Chip answers.

"10:40? Gosh! When will I ever stop sleeping in?" Dale replies, chuckling.

Chip cannot help, but chuckle too. "It was a tough day yesterday, so don't feel bad that you have slept in." He sets the tray with breakfast on Dale's lap. "Here you go."

Dale slowly drinks the glass of orange juice. "Thanks, Chipper."

Chip sits on the bed beside him. "You're welcome, Dale. How you are feeling today?"

Dale grabs a piece of bacon and dips it in the egg. "Still a little sore, but I feel slightly better. I should recover, before long." With that said, he eats the piece of bacon he has dipped in the egg. "Hmm... Very delicious. Thank you."

Chip nods. "It's good to know that you are recovering."

As Dale dips another piece of bacon in the egg, Chip turns away, looking into space with a sad expression. While looking into space, Chip starts having a flashback; it is about him castigating Dale and kicking him out of the treehouse one year ago, upon discovering that Dale was working as a henchman for Fat Cat. He also has a flashback about how he had found him yesterday, when they were finally reunited and had made up: locked up in a cage, drawing chalk lines on the wall, wearing a blue t-shirt and being very skinny and tattered. When the flashback ends, Chip has tears in his eyes and his lips start quivering. Slowly, he starts weeping very softly.

Just as Dale is about to eat another piece of bacon he has dipped in the egg, he suddenly hears Chip's gentle sobs and looks at him with a surprised expression. "Chip? What's wrong?"

Chip looks back at his little brother, who sees his weeping face. "I'm so sorry, Dale."

"What for?"

"For disowning you. I was such a fool."

Feeling sympathy for Chip, Dale sets the tray with breakfast aside and takes Chip's paws into his own. "Chip…"

Chip sniffles, before weeping again. "I really should've talked to you and let you explain what had caused you to work for Fat Cat. But instead, I had let my pride get the better of me. I didn't know you needed money to buy me a wonderful birthday gift. Had I known that, I would have never castigated you and forced you to leave."

Dale smiles and wipes Chip's tears with his right paw. "Stop being hard on yourself. It's over."

"But I'm really sorry."

"It's OK. I have forgiven you. Just like you have forgiven me. We were both wrong, but the important thing is that after one year, we are brothers and best friends again."

Chip smiles. "Yeah, you're right. Dale, I'll never disown you again. From now on, no matter what you do, no matter what you say, you will always be my little brother and my best friend. And I will always love you."

"You promise?"

"I cross my heart and hope to die."

"Thank you, Chip."

The two brothers and best friends hug each other tightly, shedding tears of joy of finally being reconnected after one year.

The End!
