The Error Of His Ways

Dating Newbie is an experience on a daily basis. He's messy on a good day, a hurricane of a disaster on a not so good day. And Perry, he takes it in his stride, because having Newbie tucked under his arm is usually worth withstanding his odd behaviour.

But this?

This might be a deal breaker.

Perry had walked into the break room with the intent to steal both pizza and a kiss from his boyfriend, and had instead found himself in the doorway, watching Nervous Guy and Laverne dancing to the radio, and Newbie clapping from his corner, a large grin on his face.

It was sweet in a Newbie, why are you adorable when you're a grown ass man kind of way, but beyond that, Perry noticed that his pizza box hadn't even been opened yet.

Jackpot.

Perry wandered over, gratified when Newbie was already tilting his head for a kiss before he'd even got there. He bent down, dropping his hand to press against the sky blue scrubs covering JD's shoulder, and pressed their lips together, once, twice and then a third for good luck, before he snuck a hand into the pizza box and tugged a slice out.

He was being sneaky, but the indulgent look on Newbie's face told Perry that he knew exactly why Perry had turned up, and it was only half for the kisses.

Perry didn't even look at the pizza before he bit into it; there weren't many things he didn't like on pizzas and he already knew that JD didn't like anchovies.

There had been a whole performance when Gandhi ordered anchovies on his pizza to show he was irritated with Newbie over something, and in the end, Carla had ended the fight by hitting them both with a cushion.

It was moments like that, actually, that made Perry wonder why he'd given up his miserable solitude so easily.

Regardless, the only other topping Perry didn't like on pizza was pineapple, but Newbie's taste wasn't that—

"Newbie, what in the whole hell is this abomination?" Perry asked, after spitting his bite out into a handy napkin he found on the table. He glared first at the pizza, which was apparently loaded with the abominable fruit, and then turned the look onto Newbie, who appeared perplexed.

"It's ham and pineapple," he said, apparently thoroughly confused by Perry's disgust.

"Why?"

Newbie blinked. "I feel like this is a trap."

"Newb… tell me that they sent the wrong pizza," Perry asked, shaking his head. "Tell me that you're not one of those people."

"Uh, what people?"

"The people that get a perfectly good pizza and ruin it with fruit!"

JD snorted. "So you're not a fan of pineapple on pizza? Good to know."

Newbie really didn't seem to realise the crime he was committing, and Perry just shook his head.

"I don't know what to do with you sometimes, Newb. Really don't."

"Uh, do you wanna go out for lunch instead?"

Perry wrinkled his nose. He wasn't hungry now. He could still taste the gross mix of pineapple, cheese, and tomato sauce in his mouth and he needed to go and brush his teeth immediately.

"Nah. But. We can go and find an empty cupboard to occupy for twenty minutes," he offered instead. "After I've brushed my teeth."

Newbie perked up, and with only a brief glance at the pizza box, he stood and gestured for Perry to lead the way.

Perry smiled to himself. Twenty minutes in a cupboard alone would be plenty of time to teach Newbie the… error of his ways.
