Georg von Trapp began to stir awake as he felt the first rays of sun shine in his eyes. He was sat up against a red maple tree that stood tall in his yard.

He was very confused- why was he outside perched up against a tree?

But it only took a few seconds for the pain to sink in and hit him like a bullet in the chest.

Maria.

"Oh, Maria. I miss you so much", he murmered.

Maria had been gone for two days. He couldn't process that she was dead. Deceased. Gone forever.

Then he remembered. He had fallen asleep outside while watching the sun set. He had always watched the sun set with Maria whenever they were together. Last night was the first time in years that he had watched the sun set alone.

He couldn't believe that Maria was really gone.

He felt so alone.

He decided to lean back against the maple tree and close his eyes. At first, he didn't know what to think about, but soon enough his thoughts were filled of Maria.

He let his mind wander back to the last time he ever saw Maria- which was only two days ago, yet felt like a life time ago.

It was almost 11 PM as Georg walked Maria home. Their hands were intertwined and they were swinging their joined hands up and down.

"So Georg, what's on the agenda for tomorrow?"

"Well, I don't want to spoil too much of our day tomorrow, but tomorrow evening I'm going to take you on a picinic in the mountains. Would you like that?"

"Ooh, I love that so much. We're going to have such a fun day!"

"Awesome. I'm so glad you're looking forward to tomorrow as much as I am. I know how much you like going on picinics, and I also know how much you love being on that mountain. And if you'd like, after our picinic we can go get ice cream."

"Oh Georg! You really have thought of everything. I can't wait for our outing tomorrow. I couldn't ask for a better boyfriend than you."

Georg chuckled. He was just as excited for his outing with Maria as she was. However, the main reason he planned this outing was because he was planning on proposing to her.

Him and Maria had known eachother since they were babies. Their moms had been best friends since grade school and happened to have babies only two months apart. Because their moms were best friends, Maria and Georg were always around eachother, and naturally they became the best of friends. They always attended eachother's birthday parties and celebrated holidays together. When they were in highschool, they fell in love with eachother and began to court.

You could say that they were crazy about eachother.

"Earth to Georg!"

Georg snapped out of his thoughts and looked at Maria.

"Georg! Quit daydreaming and pay attention to me!"

"But Maria, I was thinking about you. I was thinking about how we've known eachother since we were babies, and now we're 23!"

"Wow Georg, time really has flown by."

"It really has! Ehrm, we're almost to your apartment building. Anyway, so would you like me to pick you up at 4 PM tomorrow?"

"4 PM is perfect! Georg I really can't wait to spend time with you tomorrow. I'm so excited."

Maria gave Georg one last hug before she departed from him and walked towards the door of her apartment. She wasn't even half way in the door as Georg called out,

"I miss you already, Maria!"

"I miss you more, Georg. You're my favorite human in the whole wide world. I'll see you tomorrow, love."

Georg waved at Maria one last time and began the walk back to his house. He was so happy. He loved Maria so much, and was so excited to spend time with her.

He began to think about how he was going to propose to Maria. Would he sneak her engagement ring into her food? Or while they were eating would he randomly get down on one knee and propose? Or would he wait until they got ice cream and be like "I love you more than ice cream"? He decided not to do that because it was too corny. Then, he thought maybe he'd come up with something right as they were on their outing. After all, speaking from the heart would be so much more meaningful than memorizing and reciting something to Maria. Georg definitely wasn't going to get any sleep that night.

Georg decided to drop it for the time being, and think about it in the morning.

Soon enough, Georg made it back to his house. He walked in the door and made a b-line for his living room, where he plopped down on his couch and immediately called up his best friend, Max Detweiler.

"Hello Georg, what's up!?"

"Not much! Well Max, I think I'm finally going to tie the knot with my girl tomorrow!"

"Good luck Georg. So, if she says yes, will I be invited to your wedding?"

"Oh you know it."

"Awesome. And will I be your best man?"

"Sure Max. You are my best friend, so of course you can be my best man. I plan on throwing a super fancy wedding for my girl. It's going to be the wedding of the year!"

"Good. You know how much I love rich people, and I expect you to serve the finest food and wine at your wedding."

"Whatever, Max. You're such a sponge."

"Well, that's little old Maxie-waxie for you. Anyway Georg, you deserve to be happy. You're such a good person. I bet she'll say yes, and I can wait for your wedding. Bye now."

"Bye Max. Talk to you later"

Georg hung up. He had a ridiculously huge grin on his face and felt his excitement throughout his whole body.

It was almost 12 AM by the time Georg got in bed. He was so excited to be with Maria tomorrow.

Georg woke up the next morning feeling like a million bucks.

He rolled over and looked at his alarm clock. It read 9:03 AM.

Georg smiled. He made a mental note to take a shower, get dressed, go into town to get food for his outing with Maria, and also buy her some roses.

Georg reached over to his night stand and grabbed his phone. Oddly, Georg had 45 unread texts and 15 missed calls.

Georg opened up his most recent text and immediately dropped his phone.

Hi Georg. I know we don't

talk much, but there's a

whole crime scene outside

your girlfriend's apartment.

I happened to walk by her

apartment on my way to

work this morning and

there's a whole bunch of

police cars outside her

apartment. I just thought

I'd let you know. I hope

she's ok.

Georg frantically threw on random clothes and then ran the five blocks to Maria's apartment. Sure enough, there were four police cars and an ambulance outside Maria's apartment. The entrance to Maria's apartment was blocked off with caution tape. There was also a crowd of people around the apartment.

Georg ran through the crowd of people and went to the front of the crowd and looked for Maria. He couldn't see her or hear her. Georg really began to panic. He noticed there were a bunch of police trying to control the crowd, so he decided to run up to one of them and ask them about Maria.

"Excuse me, sir!"

"Yes? How can I help you?"

"Hi my name is Georg and my girlfriend lives here and I really hope she's ok and all these people are telling me something happened to her and I'm really worried and I just need to know where she is and that she's-"

"Sir, please slow down. What's your girlfriend's name?"

"Her name is Maria. Maria Rainer."

"What does she look like?"

"She has short, strawberry blonde hair, blue eyes and is very pretty."

"What apartment does she live in?"

"I believe she lives in apartment 145 on the fourth floor.

"I can't be sure it's your girlfriend, but around 6 AM this morning, someone broke into one of these apartments and kidnapped one of the residents."

Georg felt like his heart was going to beat out of his chest. He felt like throwing up. He felt like passing out.

"Give me your phone number. My department will contact you as soon as we find anything out. The best thing you can do is wait patiently for us to find her. Please take care."

Georg could hardly believe what he was hearing. Maybe he was in a fever dream. Maybe none of this was real and it was all a bad dream.

But no, it was real as real could be.

Somehow, Georg managed to quickly give the police man his phone number.

Georg slowlly walked back home. He went and sat up against the maple tree in his yard. He decided he'd sit there and wait for the police to call him.

He waited minutes. Then hours. And pretty soon it began to get dark out, and the sun began to set. Before he knew it, he had fallen asleep.

Georg felt a cool breeze and shivered. He figured he should go inside and pull himself together. It had been a day since Maria had been kidnapped, and the police still hadn't gotten any word to him.

Georg began to get up, but as he was getting up a thought popped into his head: what if he looked for Maria by himself? What if he could find her before the police found her? He was determined. He felt anger surge throughout his body. He was going to find Maria and the person who kidnapped her if he died trying.
