Chapter 1: Being found

It was on the streets of a small german town. Dr. Angela Ziegler had went there to visit a renovated factory by a company who produced medical goods ranging from CT's to plain painkillers - and now even products that helped omnics maintain their body. She was happy that after the war had come to an end humans and omnics had realized that both sides simply strived for peace so they started coexisting without harming or attacking each other. It was a dream come true for the young doctor and pacifist. She had to pick up her caduceus staff or pistol to either heal her allies or prevent enemies from harming her allies too many times. Now the world lived in relative peace - except that Overwatch had been forcibly disbanded and that Talon had risen from the shadows of the war and threatened the fragil peace between humans and omnics.

Angela was currently in the lobby of the hotel she was staying at and watched Lena zip and blink around inspecting every detail of the hotel with curiousity and wonder that she deeply admired. The hotel's staff was currently busying themselves at the doors and beyond. Of course, the visit by the Doctor Angela Ziegler and even some of her former Overwatch friends didn't go unnoticed and a crowd of fans had formed at the entrance. The hotel's staff had a hard time but when they managed to clear a path Fareeha opened the doors with the director's permission and led Angela and Lena down to the transport waiting there.

The following ride was filled with Lena's excited chatter and Angela's laughter. Fareeha ever the security officer was checking the road for potential threats. You never knew when Talon would strike and she would be damned if she missed an opportunity to protect her friends. Yet nothing worth of mentioning happened during the ride to the facility. There Angela submitted herself to the never changing smiles, praise, questions and expectations everybody had when she arrived. She said a few words about the world becoming a better praise, allowed the director of the company to shake her hand with such vigor that she feared her arm would fall of and smiled into the cameras for him. All the while, Lena just stood in the background grinning cheerfully sometimes answering some questions herself and Fareeha just stood imposingly behind Angela making it clear for any fan who took their love too far or terrorist that she was there to protect the doctor.

When the whole ordeal was over and Fareeha had shoved Angela back into the car the doctor exhaled a sigh of relief.

"Still not a fan of this, luv?" Lena asked with way too much cheer for Angela's taste.

"Ja." The swiss woman answered. "I really think that things like a medical facility also producing goods for omnics is a good step in the right direction. If only I could avoid all this Unsinn whenever I come for a visit."

"It went well so far." Fareeha cut in. "And nobody's handling the crowd and reporters as well as you are, Angela."

Angela simply nodded and leaned at the window which only permitted people to look out of it not inside of it. She felt herself beginning to relax and hoped that she wouldn't be bothered by any businessmen or -women or - worse - reporters for the rest of the day. Lena simply smiled proud that her friend did so much good in the world and Fareeha was yet again checking for any potential threats.

That's when it happened. They drove by an orphanage. Much too many of those had to be erected after the crisis because so many children had lost their parents to the omnic onslaught or the ensuing chaos amongst humanity. In front of the orphanage three boys could be seen. It was obvious that two of them were bullying the third. So far nothing catched the eyes of the three women inside of the car driving by. But suddenly the two bullies decided to one-up their game and shoved the third boy brutally against the wall. He hit his head hard on the wall and when he struggled to stand up it became evident that he was feeling dizzy. Then after looking like he was about to fall over and when a fist came flying in his direction a translucent green glow enveloped the boy and he caught the coming fist with ease. Moments later both bullies were lying on the ground but more importantly the third one fell over two twitching in agony.

"Stop!" Angela exclaimed causing the driver to hit the breaks furiously.

She always had the problem that she couldn't resist helping those in need and the three boys in front of here certainly could use any help. Much to the amazement of the two other women inside the car she opened a hidden cargo-hold and procured a suitcase.

"You don't want to...?" Fareeha was stunned.

"Of course she does." Lena answered cheerfully in Angela's stead. "You know her, luv. Shen never backs down when people are in need! And those three are certainly in need."

"Come!" Angela commanded the two other women. "Help me. Move them in a position that's stable and doesn't threaten their health further."

She kneeled down and while the two other women laid the three boys down with their heads sideways so that they couldn't suffocate from their tongue or any rogue meals Angela opened the suitcase. Inside was a row of syringes filled with a yellow substance that she used as a base for her caduceus staff. She injected it into the first boy's bloodstream and watched as the nanobiotic fluid did it's work. The boy's breathing eased and his bruises disappeared. She proceeded to do the same thing to the second bully with the same result except that a rumble in his chest could be heard. Angela saw that the cause for this was that a slightly displaced and cracked rip had been fixed by her medicine. She was angered that the orphanage hadn't provided the boy with the needed treatment. She then proceeded to inject another syringe with the fluid into the third boy's bloodstream only for nothing to happen. She frowned the boy had clearly suffered some injuries and many bruises could be seen, but her medicine didn't do a thing for him. She inspected his wounds further and much to her wonder she could see that after about a minute the boy's bruises began to fade and his breathing eased. It was similar to what her own body was like after she had first applied her theories on nanobiotics on herself.

The boy began to stir. He groaned and opened his eyes - his irises were bright blue and his pupils were unfocused.

"Shh!" Angela wanted the boy to stay as still as possible. Something was clearly wrong with him.

"Wer bist du?" He asked. "Bist du ein Engel, geschickt um mich endlich von meinem Leid zu erl?sen?"

Angela felt her breath caught in her throat. No normal teenager would ask if she was an angel sent to release them from their suffering. She went into full doctor-mode.

"Nein." She began. "Ich bin hier, um zu helfen. Do you understand English?"

At first the boy was quiet but then he nodded. "I do speak English."

Reliefed that her companions would understand their conversation Angela bent down to him. "Who are you?"

"I don't know - a freak."

"How old are you?"

"Seventeen years old. Maybe eighteen?"

"Where are you from?"

"I don't know. I don't remember anything past the last two years."

Schei?e! He has amnesia.

"How do you feel?"

"Miserable. My body's recovering but something happened, didn't it?"

This time Lena who had been following the conversation with great interest while Fareeha scolded the two other boys who had woken up answered. "You betcha something did, luv!"

The boy's face was a frown of confusion. "Luv?"

"Yeah." Lena cheered.

His eyes came more into focus. Angela concluded that his concussion had been healed by this mysterious healing factor in his body. The boy moved his head a little and looked at Lena. "Tracer?"

"Cheers luv." Lena grinned. "He knows me."

The boy then looked at Angela.

"Mercy... and Phara?" He was utterly confused. "Who are you?"

That put a stop to Lena's cheering. "Wait you know our field-names but not who we are?"

"Field names? No, I just... kinda knew that you're called that." The boy looked at Angela with desparation. "Please help me! I don't know what's going on with me?"

"It's all right. Du bist in Sicherheit. We'll bring you somewhere where we can look into what's wrong with you yes?"

Angela's words seemed to sooth the young troubled man and he relaxed. Suddenly even breathing could be heard from him and after double checking Angela realized that he simply fell asleep. She asked Fareeha to carry the boy and the four of them drove back to the hotel were the three women were staying. Angela always had an assortment of medical equipment with her wherever she was going so that she could help wherever she was needed. She knew that the visor of her Valkyrie suit was back in the suite so when they arrived at the hotel she led the two other women to her suite and instructed Fareeha to lay the boy on the bed. She put on the visor and focused on the boy.

A gasp escaped her mouth when she saw what was going on with him.

"What is it? Is it bad?" Fareeha asked with concern. Angela rarely looked so confused even when dealing with patients other doctors had already signed off as hopeless.

Angela wordlessly gestured her visor to project what it registered. A hologram of the boy's inside appeared in above his body. All three women stared at it wordlessly slowly digesting what this meant. On the hologram the boy's organs could be seen all in good condition but more important than that was the multitude of metal the visor registered inside the body. The boy's skeleton had been infused with metal and in his brain compartments of metal could be seen. And next to his heart - next to his heart a metallic box could be seen the visor's hologram told the women that it probably was some kind of reactor since traces of energy could be found emanating from it.

"We'll have to call Winston!" Lena stated matter-of-factly. "You're a brilliant doctor Angela but this seems like someone with experience in the field of engineering could be of help."

Fareeha nodded. "Agreed. This is most concerning."

Angela deactivated her visor and sat down. She run her hand through her hair and sighed deeply. She was asking herself what she did to deserve it that seemingly all the bizarre things on the world happened when she was around. She looked at the cyborg lying on her bed, sleeping contently. All his bruises were completely gone by now. From what she could tell from what her visor had told her she thought that the boy's immune system was probably also altered and had identified her medicine as a foreign substance and had eliminated it. She began dialing a number on her phone.

A deep but very kind voice answered. "Hello this is Winston. How can I help you?"

"Winston" Angela began. "We have a problem."

"Not Talon, I hope?" The genetically altered gorilla asked hopefully.

Angela shook her head. "No, it's not Talon - as far as I know. There has been an incident after I visited this renovated medical facility in germany."

After she had told Winston all about the strange cyborg they had found the gorilla became silent. Angela could practically see and hear the cogs turning and grinding in his brain. The monkey shook his head in confusion.

"I have never heard of a case like this." He confessed. "And this is coming from a genetically altered monkey from a colony on the moon! You should bring the young man to Watchpoint Gibraltar. I know that it isn't an official Overwatch facility anymore, but I still live here and the equipment's working just fine. We need to know more about him."

Angela smiled. "Thank you, Winston. I really appreciate the help."

"It's nothing." The scientist waved it off. "There's a person in need of help and even though Overwatch may not exist anymore this is the reason I joined and I still stand by my beliefs!"

"Very well." Fareeha saluted Winston. "We'll see to it that he arrives as soon as possible."

"Who?" Lena looked at Fareeha in confusion. After a moment it dawned on her. "Oh him! Yeah, we'll definitely do that. In the meantime we need to come up with a name for him, don't you think?"

The scientist nodded and smiled. "I take it that you already have an idea, Lena?"

"Of course, Winston." She smiled. "How about... Mark?"

"Hmmm..." Winston thought about it.

Before he could say anything Angela cut in. "How about we ask him when he wakes up?"
