This short story comes from a daily prompt of "Short Fanfiction that contains lyrics from a current song, less than 1000 words". I've been finding it hard to write daily or every other day and keep my mind going, but today, I had a little fun. I don't own either of the characters that are in this story or the lyrics referenced at the end (They are from the song "All Eyes on Me" by Bo Burham from his new netflix special Inside, Streaming now. But enjoy the story.)

The streets of the city were pure chaos, people screamed, buildings groaned as if the matter that made them was being rewritten, and that was because time, space, the universe, and matter itself was being rewritten. The portals of energy spiral open in the air, their sparks of yellow, orange and red burn your eyes if you look at them too long, and the purple lightning-like energy cascading from them was so beautiful you could barely look away. "Billy! Where are we going! BILLY!", shouted a tall green monolith of a being with sparkling blonde hair as they trailed behind a thin man with manic dark hair and a red cape billowing as he ran. He turned to look at the man not slowing his pace and thrust his gloved hand toward him. "Take my hand and it'll be okay but we have to keep going.", he flashed a smile as his partner Teddy entwined their fingers. People, buildings, cars, and even the streets around them were being swallowed by these portals as they spun open unleashing carnage and mayhem and then closing as if nothing had happened. A portal spun open in front of them a purple cloud swirling inside lurching from it's confines, Billy's hand shot up and in a booming voice yelled "CLOSED", and as if by magic it disappeared in a burst of light as they ran through it. Above them another one spirals open four times the size of the previous one, and just as the familiar purple lightning bolts from within Teddy sprouts giant bat like wings and grabs Billy around the waist throwing them both down a nearby alley. The street where they had been standing was gone. They could hear a subway train scream from below and then sudden silence as the portal was gone again. Billy pushes away from Teddy and stands up, "We have to keep moving or who knows what will happen to us. The others are gone, someone has to stay alive." With a confidence not usual for Billy he tries to rally Teddy but streams of tears are running down his chiseled green cheeks. Billy leans down and puts his forehead against Teddys. "I love you, you just have to trust me", he gingerly places his fingers under Teddy's chin and lifts it so they are looking deep into each other's eyes, "All eyes on me." He kisses the cheek of the man he has loved for so long and whispers the command "Beacon" as a series of small ruins dance around them and disappear inside the hole where the street once stood. Above them and at the end of the alley two portals swirled to life and purple lightning and purple smoke exited lapping at whatever they could find. They looked at each and Billy simply said "Run", he grabbed Teddy's hand and they ran toward the gaping maw that once was a street. "Are you feeling nervous?" Billy asked, not looking back at the other man's face as they moved closer and closer to the chasm. "Are You having fun?" Teddy scoffed, out of breath, "Billy!" Teddy shouted as another massive portal opened in front of them over the cavernous hole. They come skidding to a stop at the precipice of life and death Teddy looks down, while Billy just keeps looking forward. "It's almost over", Teddy said, almost too low for Billy to hear, tears blurring his vision. Billy grabs Teddy's face forcing him to look each other in the eyes once more. "It's just begun", Billy smiles and kisses Teddy, A swirling light comes from inside the hole where the subway track lay cracked in two, first a layer of yellow, then bright emerald green, and a smokey layer of crimson, Billy looks down, and quickly back up. "Don't overthink this, LOOK IN MY EYES, Don't be scared, don't be shy!"Teddy had no idea what Billy had planned, but he felt his partner's small hands grip his large arms, and he knew at that moment he trusted him no matter what. The portal below them sparked and swirled and a large spell gliff spirals out closing the portal above them, "Boys, NOW!" a woman's voice rings out from inside the swirling vortexes. "Come on in, the Water's fine.", says Billy as he tips himself and his partner off the edge of the hole, plummeting into the vortex. Teddy feels the crushing weight of the universe on his chest and it isn't until he feels his entire mass slam onto a hard dark stained wooden floor, and loses the feeling of Billy holding onto him, that he finally passes out.
