CHAPTER ONE
The Missing Dreadnaught

Years after they defeated Malefor and saved the world, the two heroes of the dragon realms were blessed to meet many amazing people, such as dragon comedian Helix O'Van Sea and his older and younger sisters, Jeenie and Venus. AND a former Dantean enemy who defected named Shigi, who married Venus. They now set an example and fight for the rights of interspecies couples.

These new friends of theirs assisted them in fighting a new threat, tall humanoid creatures, sometimes called trolls, but officially known as Valdish. Their queen was determined to enslave the dragons, cheetahs and moles, and take their land.

These creatures were advanced, but lived an oppressed cheap existence in a marshy, hostile, and recently-overpopulated island called Valdin. Were it not for their advances in weaponry and their reliance on airships of many kinds, they would be naught but prey for the wildlife of Valdin. But they had dominated their homeland before it dominated them.

They were around 7 feet tall with leathery skin ranging from teal to blue to green. They sharp teeth and because they had somewhat evolved to their homeland, an amazing ability to swim and hold their breath for minutes at a time.

They migrated away from Dante's Freezer, but half of their people remained and evolved for the harsh cold. They became Danteans, who were almost exactly like Valdinians[aka Valdish], only much more blue skinned and having resistance to frost damage. These people were liberated from Valdish Occupation by Spyro, Cynder and their friends and now share their resources with Warfang, mainly seafood.

In the market square of Warfang, Spyro, Cynder and Shigi O'Van Sea are being interviewed by moles from the papers on their adventures. Shigi sat against the belly of his gigantic wife and the two heroes laid together before them.

"Colonel Hasethsmalvena-"

Shigi raised his hand "Um, pardon me, but my last name's O'Van sea now, thank you," he corrected as politely as he could, given he was offended.

"My apologies. Is it true you were not tortured whatsoever once you surrendered?"

"Correct," he smiled and nodded, giving Venus a kiss when she lowered her head to him "When the last wave of my brigade fell, I knew my only options were surrender or die. When i was in custody, it dawned on me that i have a chance to make things right. So I gave up all the intel I had."

"On behalf of citizens of Warfang, Shigi, we thank you for that. Who knows what could have happened without the intel." The mole turned to the two heroes "What was it like fighting alongside Shigi, Cynder?"

"Very strange. It's quite different than fighting with Hunter. Hunter doesn't have a gun. But without Shigi, we'd be walking in blind with no cover. He's amazing with his gun. He could shoot the flea of a wolfs back at a hundred meters."

"And what kind of gun does Shigi favor?"

"Oh um. Um..."

"I can answer that, Cynder," Spyro assuringly nudged her, before clearing his throat and answering "He calls it a semi-automatic, 50-cal bipodded Grublin Mincer."

"Wow," said Shigi "You have audio graphic memory."

"And, Shigi, did admiral Jackbar give you any trouble when you defeated him?"

"Pfft," Shigi smiled and waved that sentence away "You kidding? I eat big smelly turds, like him, for breakfast." He laid back with a smug face.

That was until Spyro giggled, "You eat big smelly turds breakfast?!"

And then Shigi realized, and he frowned and went red faced as the entire crowd erupted in laughter.

"I think they call that cropophelia," said Venus before burying her face in her claws and barely containing a snorting laugh.

"Spyro, since you inhibited Queen Enola's offensive capability for years to come, what do you want to do now?"

"I really want to start a family. Settle down, you know. Me and Cynder have been trying every night, but I fear I'm shooting blanks."

"Sure you didn't loose a gonad in battle?" asked shiggle with a chuckle

"How is that possible when they're inside me? I'm dragon, Shigi."

"We'll just have to keep trying." Cynder said "I got Spyro's doctor results. He's not shooting blanks."

"Ladies and gentleman, our interview is adjourned! Please disperse in and orderly manner."

The heroes invited Shigi and Venus over for a reading of scary books and some red wine spritzers in their little two story one bedroom house on the edge of the city.

By the time Cynder was almost doen with the story, Shigi and Venus were practically asleep due to the booze, leaving Cynder sober and Spyro relatively so.

"And then they hear, from outside their tent, the blood-curdling cry of the sea lion." Cynder gasped, covering her mouth with her paw "THEY'LL BE KILLED!"

"Cynder," groaned Spyro, "He obviously got out alive if he wrote the book."

"Don't be so-oh you're right!"

"Shigi and me are a bit too drunk to fly home. Could we just crash on the rug?"

"No problem," nodded cynder.

Venus yawned and rolled over, right on top of Shigi.

He started screaming, but it was completely muffled "venish! GERROF ME! GERROF!"

Venus gasped and rolled the opposite direction "So sorry, darling."

He sucked in an exhale of great relief "It's alright..." he had to catch his breath before continuing "I've done stupider things while drunk...like peeing in a public sink. You'll never let me live that one down."

So the all heroes retired to the bed. They were lucky, because across the tiny world they lived on, their rivals, the Valdinians had bigger problems. But that can wait.

The next day, Spyro had awaken to find Cynder abcent and her half of the rug as cold as the stone floor it covered.

He went back downstairs to find that Venus and Shigi had left and Cynder was almost ferociously eating pickled and rare steak.

"You alright, Cynder? Hon'? I've never seen you eating steak like that."

'And pickles,' she thought. "Yeah. I dunno. I just have these...cravings."

"Alright, I'm just gonna clean up."

He walked into the kitchen and but then froze "Wait a minute...Cravings."

'is he going to figure it out?' she thought

"You think Venus's fertility advice worked?"

'the brain is firing and I think HE'S GOT IT!'

She got up, faced him, and prepared for his usual excited hugs "I'm carrying eggs, Spy'."

"...Oh my...goodness. HARHAAAH!" he rushed to embrace her. "We should go tell our friends!"

They ventured the 20 minute walk through Warfang, tail in tail, joyful as they could be. Even the fish monger whom Spyro frequented could tell bu their expressions. "You've done it, Spyro, Haven't you?" he said with a smile and arms crossed.

Spyro just smugly swung his head up and down and they journeyed on.

The arrived at the O'Van Sea Manor and banged the door with the iron knocker. Venus answered and screeched "Hey!" with joy "Come in guys." so they did.

And immediately Spyro said, "We came to deliver good news. Cynders gonna lay eggs!"

All the O'Van Sea siblings, Jeenie, Venus, and Helix, came out the cheer.

"Have you thought of name's, Cynder?" asked Shigi.

"Aventus for a boy and Dara for a girl," she nodded.

"We need to throw you a shower," said Venus.

"And, Helix," began Spyro "I think Warfangs greatest comedian should help spread the news. Perhaps at a show?"

"That...is...BRILLIANT! What better way to spread the news."

"This is the happiest day of my life," cried Spyro "I'll be a dad soon."

But not all in the world was well. The dragon's enemies across the world, Valdish, had the biggest problem they have faced in their history.

The countries best doctor was summoned to the throne room, at the discovery of a new plague that had infested Valdin. The doctor named it for the queen...Crossout 12.

"...And there are two strains of this virus: Crossout A, which has a very low mortality rate of less than 3% and is airborne, and B which kills almost everybody it infects and is passed sexually or through blood."

"I demand to know what can be done about it!' shouted the queen.

"The disease came from dreadwings on the island 50 kilometres off the coast. If we get some blood from those wild dreadwings, perhaps we could find antibodies against it.

"The people must not know about this virus. It could sent our whole nation into anarchy, and i could loose the throne. How many patients are there so far?

"25 from strain A, and 10 B, 8 of which have died. They are locked in a secured laboratory."

"Excellent. This is a job for my best General, Victor Fowl. Contact the Valkyrie right away, doctor, because you'll be on it soon.

Victor fowl, a tall skinny man with white hair and blue eyes is aboard his very light and fast corvette class airship. It's dart-shaped balloon was barely big enough to keep it afloat, to save weight and mass. It had two moon shaped wings on it's gondola with one big rocket engine at the back, and two small pivoting turbine engine on the front half. Weaponry is two independently-aiming 20mm miniguns on the front, one on the back, and a large 75mm canon poking out each side. It's the second smallest class of airship, after a dingy.

They docked with the palace to add the doctor to their crew on their way to Dreadwing Isle. For them the journey would be only 30 minutes. The bustling street between the towers of Valdin city aglow beneath them.

The other airships in the sky didnt bother them, even though they made the Valkyrie look like mosquito. They could just weave and thread between them, being careful not to get caught in their thrust zones behind their engines and get blown away.

After a decent half hour of near-top-speed cruising, about 300KPH for the Corvette Class Valkyrie. But when War Emergency Power is applied it can reach burst of 500kph

Now they circled the island in search of dreadwings to tranq' and extract blood from.

They soon found a nest with several of the screeching creatures. Victor took aim with his air rifle and fired. The creature was subdued and it's friends fled.

The doctor disembarked the Valkyrie and inserted his catheter into the creatures neck to slowly extract two litres of blood.

"Doctor," said Victor "If this disease comes from Dreadwings, how come it rarely shows up? Almost everybody rides Dreadwings.

"Nobody knows," the doctor said slowly shaking his head "But it happens at the first third of every century, in a different form or strain."

"Very...interesting," said Victor, scratching his silver goatee "but stupid. How can the same disease come every century?"

"Mother nature. She will always take over when us trolls leave somewhere."

The captain of the Valkyrie rushed out to salute the General. "General Fowl, we received word of a dreadnaught airship that set out for Dante's Freezer, but they stopped on this island, and then just an hour later, fell off the radar. It's the VMS Maria."

Victor went wide-eyed and stared at the doctor, the captain, and then the middle distance and mountains in disbelief "How can a dreadnaught just disappear? They make the Valkyrie look like a mosquito."

Before anybody could answer his question, he saw, crushing the tall trees and partially on it's side, but still intact, Valdish Military Ship Maria.

Dreadnaughts were like small cities in the sky. Like Victor said, they made Corvettes look like flying bugs. They had not one, but gondolas on their balloon, one bellow, and one upside-down clinging to the top, and a large turbine engine on the side of each gondola.

Everybody took their positions in the bridge of the Valkyrie.

"Captain," said Victor with confidence "Can we try and make contact with the Maria?"

The captain was scanning every channel with a knob, but there was nothing. "Nothing whatsoever, general."

"Looks like we're going to have to dock. Bring us close and scan for an open hanger.

The Valkyrie's rocket erupted into full throttle as they made haste down to the Maria. They were hovering sideways merely tens of meters from the hull, scanning for signs of life and a place to dock. But all the of the hanger bays were shut.

The general was patched into the external megaphones of the corvette and began to attempt contact. "Crew members of the Maria, this is General Victor Fowl. Please make your presence known. We have come to rescue you."

There was no detectable movement.

"Captain, could we make our own way in?"

"Yes, general, we can blast open some doors."

"...do it."

The gunner primed the miniguns and they spun to life. He trained them onto the doors and when the miniguns thundered at over 1200rpm each, they ripped like tin foil.

The hanger was completely empty. It was strange because it was rare to see one that didn't have several dreadwings and at least one corvette-class airship inside.

"I don't like the looks of this, general," said the captain "Not a soul in sight so far."

The general the five only soldiers aboard[assault-class with light armor and SMGs] left the Valkyrie. The general ordered the captain to keep circling the dreadnaught and the surrounding forest for signs of the crew in the meantime.

They carefully treaded through the leaky iron and wood corridors with exposed wiring and pipes.

One soldiers found shell casings lodged in the grating floor "General, there are allot shell casings."

"Im not surprised. Something definitely boarded this vessel."

"General, I think we should check engineering? Perhaps we could figure out why they crashed."

"Spot on, soldier. As he said, gents."

They made their slowly to Engineering. Even the general was afraid that anything could side blind them from an intersecting hallway as they followed the signs, both literal and figurative, to engineering. Soon they found corpses, but very few and far between.

"These poor souls had no chance...and no idea," shivered the general. "I would rather die than see all my men fall the same way."

"That's why we are honoured to serve you, General," smiled one of the soldiers.

"General," said another soldier "Do you think the crew escaped on all of the docked corvettes?"

"Highly likely, Private," he responded positively.

Before anybody could say another word, a flash and bang thundered from down the hall, and a bullet ricocheted from pipe to pipe, causing a small fire behind them that they had to escape from.

"STAY BACK! STAY BACK!" screamed the shooter, laying against the wall at the T-section at the end "YOU'RE NOT TURNING ME INTO ONE OF THOSE THINGS!"

He fired his revolver twice at then general and his men. One shot barely missed and snapped past the general's head and the other, fortunately, harmlessly hit one of the soldiers chest plates.

"ARG! Cease fire, or we will fire on you!" the soldier ordered.

His warning fell on deaf-and probably insane-ears. He fired another shot that barely missed all of them. So the soldier cocked and fired 10 anti-personnel squashing and shattering rounds into the screaming troll.

The shooter began to weep as he reloaded his SMG "Never...have I had to shoot one of my own."

Another soldier stared at the now-dead, smouldering corpse of that insane troll "He had shellshock. I have seen shellshock before. A horrible psychological condition brought on by the violence of war."

"These things happen," shrugged the general. "Shellshock is very common.

Soon they made it to the locked door of engineering. They only way they could break through the door was with a portable bomb the size of a briefcase. They set the clicking timer, and retreated around the corner. The explosion launched the door across the hall and it's banana-shaped remains hit the T junction. So it was fortunate they weren't there.

When they entered-guns drawn and ready to fire-what they found made their heart sink into their stomachs. All of the many engineers were dead, in three separate groups.

"Why-...WHY?!" cried one of the soldiers "They committed suicide!"

"Very strange...and sad," said the general, as he observed the bodies. He found shell casings in all of their hands, and one of each group has a casing with a bullet still it in one hand, and his pistol in the other "They tried to barricade themselves in here. They devided into three groups, drew shell casings, and they overed their heads to those who ere chosen. The one who drew the unexploded shell had to shoot all the others and then himself."

One of the soldiers let his rifle slip out of his hands when he illuminated a horrid message on the walls.

"Dark Master had returned! SAVE YOURSELF!"

"SIR!" shouted another soldier "I have found some audiotape. It's still warm."

"Well let's hear it, dammit!" said the general.

The soldier fed the green end[meaning beginning] into his belt radia that they normally use to communicate between each other. A crackly audio and a barely-coherent, traumatised voice came out.

"IT'S HOPELESS! To anybody who finds this message, return to VALDIN. WARN THEM! THE DARK MASTER'S MINIONS! They stole our corvettes and are heading for our cities. We sabotaged the Maria so at least they wouldn't use the dreadnaught against us. These creatures can indoctrinate our dead. These...DEMONS!"

When the recording was over, all were frozen with fear. But the general was the first overcome it and ordered, "Sarg' we need to go back to hanger so we can be extracted."

The sergeant was looking around nervously "Sir-."

"I d'nave time to argue. I gave you an order."

"General...LISTEN!"

All they could the sound of creatures squeezing through the air vents, and even gargling and running down the iron grating hull.

"CONTACTS!" screamed a soldier before he opened fire down the hall "LOTS OF CONTACTS!"

Horrid, tall, red-scaled demonic creatures were racing through the hall.

Several came out of vents. They were the same creatures under the command of the dark master years ago.

But the SMGs and the generals pistol made short work of them, luckily.

The general on his radio "SKIPPER! SKIPPER do you copy?"

"Loud and clear general."

"The Dark Master's minions have returned! We found a recording and all of the engineers had committed suicide after locking themselves in. They stole all of the Maria's corvettes and they're heading straight for Valdin."

"I'll extract from the same hanger if I can. I found many crashed corvettes, but if all fifty were stolen from the Maria, the rest have probably made it to Valdin by now."

So the general and his men raced through the corridors. They killed many more demons before they encountered red-crystal-hearted, barely-fleshed skeletons of their owns, throwing fireballs of them.

The generals first instinct was the aim for the red, glowing hearts of these creatures, which caused screams to come out of them, until they exploded and killed all demons and skellies around them.

"By the gods, general. They've turned our dead into walking suicide bombs!"

Soon they were inside the hanger and the Valkyrie was hovering parallel with the open door.

The general and his men raced for it, because for all they knew, all hell was behind them.

The leap onto the deck, and not a second later, the captain gunned the engines for Valdin.

But when they cleared the fog and set eeys on their home island, it was engulfed by several firestorms.

"Valdin is...burning," sobbed the captain "The palace has been destroyed...all waterfront facilities destroyed. Receiving no communication from anywhere in the cities...not even beacons."

"Wait," said the co pilot "I'm receiving multiple assistance request from fleet ships. Um...4 dreadnaughts, one of which is a mothership, and about 12 frigates. They are in Gutstone to the south. They say they are evacuating survivors."

"Full speed to Gutstone."

When they got there they could see a river of survivors lining up into the landed dreadnaughts. The firestorm and Dark Master's minions behind them.

"These survivors are all that remain of our people," chocked Skipper. "Without them, we will become extinct."

"General Fowl, this is the mothership Periwinkle. There's way we can board all these people quickly enough on foot. Therefor we are launching our corvettes to pick up more civilians."

"Do it, Periwinkle."

Meanwhile the Valkarie descent down and the general spoke to the civilians through the megaphones.

"Attention civilians, in order to board you all immediately, the Periwinkle will launch several corvettes to extract you!"

The skipper, at the helm, saw an immence creature heading for the civilians fast, a giant earth golem, the same one the heroes of Warfang vanquished.

"Bring us in close!" shouted the general, aim for the chest and head.

"Aye!"

The Valkyries two miniguns whined to life and unleashed upon the golem. It didn't do much but the creature fell on it's back.

"Bring port-side and hit him with the canon!"

The so the Valkyrie got down to it's level and hit the creatures chest with it's canon. The creature erupted into a ball of fire and rocks.

The civilians were almost evacuated, just a couple hundred left, which should take 2 minutes.

The firestorms had engulfed all but the smallest most isolated towns, which were now empty.

"General Fowl, this is Perrywinkle. We have evacuated all living citizens. You are free to dock at D1. There's nothing left for us here...let's go."

But the general knew that the Demons would use their former island as a staging area. So there would be one more thing they had to do before they left.

"Periwinkle, this is Valkyrie. We heading to Mount Doom. We are going to start a seismic reaction and destroy the remains of our city."

Fowl had to move the headset away from his head when the Periwinkle captain started to scream, "ARE YOU OUTA YOUR BLOODY MIND!?"

"OUR LAND IS LOST! The forests burn, the cities are being occupied by THEM! We may never be able to dwell here. But we can buy some time by killing one of the main sources of demons."

"...ARG...DO IT!"

So Valkyrie set full afterburner to Mount Doom, the highest point in Valdin. They had one superbomb aboard as well as many regular bombs, each one strong enough to kill a dragon. The 'fat boy' bomb aboard was for extremely large structures.

Knowing this, Fowl was concerned and asked the skipper, "How much firepower will need to awaken Mount Doom?"

"Not much," said the skipper with a sad frown on his face, holding the control yolk one-handed "A well -placed bomb or two."

"I can see the sadness in your eyes, Skipper. Valdin is gone, but us trolls persevere. That's how we migrated from Dante's Freezer."

"The only thing that made it better for me. Victor, is that my family survived and are aboard Periwinkle. But I know I am one of the very lucky ones."

They decided that instead of entering the volcano from the top, they would navigate the large tunnels on the side.

But the demons caught wind somehow of what they were doing, or perhaps they just had a hunch. Now several wyverns are on their six, perusing them through the tunnels. They were same flying creatures Spyro and Cynder fought before.

Luckily the rear minigunner was already prepared and unleashed upon them. Sometimes he was able to take them out, but the last few latched onto the corvette airship and found their way onto the deck. They could feel the turbulence.

"MEN!" shouted the general "Join me on deck and let's get these things off our ship!"

The general drew his pistol and short sword "Bring it on, you big fiery FREAKS!"

The first of the three boarding wyverns launched itself for Fowl. He swung upwards and got the creatures head. It fell and he impaled it.

Him and the soldiers unleashed fire upon the the last two.

One fell dead, but the other pinned the general to the deck and began to scratch at his face.

"HOLD STILL, GENERAL!" The sergeant shot the creature in the head, dead. And the almost-traumatised general wriggled free and crawled backwards staring at the creature in fear.

He pointed at the sergeant "You...deserve...a promotion."

The sergeant was almost as shocked as him "...I'd be honoured."

They returned to the flight deck and they were about to enter the belly of the volcano.

They were all awestruck at the sight of the abyssal volcano they were now merely meters above the floor of.

"General, men," said Skipper "strap yourself in, we are going to have to rocket our way upwards outa here soon."

So they did. And now the general was to do the honours. He put in the code for the bomb and the general and captain drew theirs keys, inserted and turned them at once. He pushed the red button and bomb bay doors swung open and fat boy was dropped.

"GUN IT, SKIPPER!"

The Valkyries rocket thundered as they began to ascend. Everybody slammed back in their seats The bomb crackled and cracked the floor and soon the airship was just as much propelled by the escaping heat as it was by its engines. This would be entirely beneficial, if the tail of the corvette wasn't smouldering.

They were only 10 seconds from freedom, but with the wall of lava practically touching their tail, it felt like eternity.

They soon burst forth and levelled out, making their way back to Mothership Periwinkle.

All were catching their breath and grabbing their chests in relief. "You fancy...a look, General?" said Skipper.

He nodded and they all went to the back of the deck, leaving the co pilot flying.

A colossal tower of fiery death was spurting from Mount Doom and engulfed the now-Demon-occupied capital, Valdin City. It was the only major city. But now it was Demon hive. Now it was destroyed.

"This morning, Skipper,...we were an advanced bustling civilization, with hundreds of thousands of the most intelligent beings in the world. The fleet is all that's left of us. It's finished."

"No, general. I think we're just getting started."

And so Valkyrie docked with Periwinkle. Who knows what was next. Or if they would survive life aboard ships and a horrid plague that infects them.
