I have never attempted to write anything before now, being happy to just be a stalker of those with talent. However, the 4F challenge #184 given by the deviants of the LFFL on FB inspired a plot bunny that just wouldn't let go. And so, here is my first entry into the world of fan fiction, a very short one-shot. I hope you enjoy it.

REMEMBER ME

Jareth knelt in the shattered remains of the room. All around him floated pieces of the final maze that was meant to put a stop to her quest for victory once and for all. He saw none of it. Instead, his eyes were fixed on the crystal in his hands, a crystal that showed him the girl, the only girl, the one to whom he had offered it all. His heart, kingdom, dreams, everything he had done, he had done it for her. She celebrated her triumph over him and his Labyrinth with his subjects, reveling in the destruction she had wrought.

An icy cold wind began to sweep through the room. Jareth did not feel it. He could feel nothing but the pain inside. With her final words, she had taken it all from him. "You have no power over me." Could she really know the true power behind those words? Did she really understand all that he had been offering her?

It wasn't just her love he so desperately desired; it was her belief in him. Fairy tale kingdoms and their inhabitants thrived on belief. Those who she held and cherished as friends would flourish. But he, already he could feel the effects of her loss of belief in him. Had she truly not heard the words he had sung to her? Perhaps he also had not really been listening. Had he himself not told her that he couldn't live within her?

Already he could feel the change coming upon him. He didn't fight it. He welcomed the relief from the emotions that were threatening to tear him apart from within. Gently, with one gloved finger, he caressed the image of the girl, laughing with glee, held within the heart of the crystal. Even as he felt his lips begin to vanish, he whispered to her one final time. Her name, along with his final words, continued to echo throughout the darkness of the broken, floating room, even after the man who uttered them was long gone, and the owl that was left in his place had taken flight…"Sarah, remember me."
