A Unicorn found himself sudddenly in the middle of a valley which looked infinite to his eyes. A few seconds later he started to see others like him appearing as if by turn, but like they'd have been always there and he would only had learnt to discover their presence.
However, a much more amazing thing came soon when the newcomer met a magnificent golden Unicorn, who strangely even had wings.
"Are you... A real Unicorn?" -He asked, doubtful.
-"Yes, you can see there my long horn".
-"But I thought... Our race wasn't supposed to fly..."
-"And you're right. But... If you'd just turn to look over your shoulder..."
-"Wh- What? ...Well, now I really can't believe it! I actually have wings. And I'm golden like you!"
-"Yes... We're two of the few in our race who died giving their lives for someone much loved".
-"So it's like a gift we've been given?"
-"Again... Yes; you guessed it right. Now I'd like to know your story..."
It didn't take him very much to remember those last minutes of his life.
-"I went to the Emrallt Forest not knowing very well the reason in that moment; a burning bough caught my attention for a few seconds, but when I looked again in front of me she was right there.
"More than slightly shocked and scared I gave some steps backwards, but when she noticed me her eyes showed anything but anger. It looked like not even her had seen me until then. Seeing my fear, I guess, she cut a bough with leaves and some acorns, letting it fall in front of me. Then I turned for a moment to pick a violet flower and offered it to her. She smiled briefly as if saying 'Follow me', so I started to run after her into the heart of that Forest... No longer with fear or unsure of what I wanted to do there.
"When she returned... I mean, approached and we could look into each others eyes again, I made appear many red flowers around a tree -once more for her- while she was doing something in another. Then she went to the tree which was dressed with flowers and created for me a soft rain of red petals. Shortly after that we slept together, on the fresh fallen petals.
"But then... Waking up and remembering what she gave me earlier, I went to look for another violet flower; if possible, more beautiful than the other. And I went too far away from her, trying to find one of them... All I could see of my beloved, after having heard a big cry of pain, was her lifeless body. That's when, behind the tears, I knew what to do.
"I surrounded myself completely with a white light, then before my spirit would've left my body I touched her face with my nose. Now at least she could live to remember our tender moments".
The other Unicorn talked again with calm.
-"I see that you did very well, anyway; instead of going full of rage to avenge her, all your feelings and concern -although full with sorrows- were for the one you loved so much.
"I just don't know why you didn't say that she was a Dragoness..." -Smiled finally the other Unicorn.
-"Well, um... Sorry. But how did you know?"
-"Since you told me about that burning bough, I think. None of us can really set wood on fire".
-"That's true... Now may I ask you something?"
-"Yes, you actually can ask me anything".
"Well... Who did you give your life for?"
-"I was almost wishing that question. In my case, with the same kind of sacrifice, another Dragoness returned to life a little less than eight hundred years ago. You shouldn't have kept hidden such kind of love, here".
"Sorry, I'm afraid that I still don't understand it well..."
"Don't worry, this is what on Earth they call Heaven. Here you don't need to understand things... Only feel, or enjoy them.
"Now that you gave your life for her, besides, you were granted with the gift of returning and spend along with her a whole day, every year".
The completely unexpected gift made the golden Unicorn feel his old beating heart shining like a little star inside him.

A green Dragoness descended slowly at the edge of a Forest even much bigger than the Emrallt Forest where she had found true love... Losing him too soon because of his own kind.
In the place where she was now lived her mother and also other two Dragons. The grief-stricken Dragoness, after having landed with new falling tears, started to walk slowly to where she knew her mother would be.
-"Hello again, my daughter -she greeted her from a certain distance. -...Oh, wait, why are you crying?"
-"Because... I met somebody in that Forest by the Valley of Unicorns; Emrallt, I think the name is.
"He looked scared of me, but when I offered him a bough with leaves and acorns as a token of friendship he picked for me a violet flower; right then my heart took me to fly full of happiness... Because I had already fallen in love with him.
"When I was looking for something on the trunk of a tree, he made appear many red flowers and I made them fall on him, grateful, with my wings. After that we slept cuddling.
"Suddenly a loud noise woke me up... Five or six Unicorns were watching me. And then... One of them ran in my direction, to pierce my chest with his long horn.
Here the mother Dragoness thought about herself right in front of all the Unicorns, punishing them; but kept in silence letting her continue the tale.
"I threw fire to my attacker, of course... But too late, my mother. He could escape death while I didn't... Well, then.
"I don't even know why he attacked me... But what's worst, mother, is that I thought for a moment that the one I loved since then had betrayed me somehow. Now I regret that so much...
"After an unknown amount of time, when I could already feel my soul abandoning the Earth, he brought me back to life using some kind of magic..."
-"No, it doesn't look like magic to me, my daughter -interrupted her softly, the other Dragoness, but happy for what had finally happened. -True love can make even much more wonderful things, the way I see it".
-"Maybe you're right... The case is that he evidently had left only to bring me an even more beautiful flower, because that's what I found later, still not believing my own situation. Now, this is the violet flower with which he said his last 'Farewell'.
"I live indeed thanks to him... But my heart will cry for him until I die. And..."
-"Of course, my poor daughter.. -interrupted again, her eyes full of tenderness, the mother. -Don't worry, though... I can see why you fell in love with that Unicorn".
-"Yes, he was so b... Oh, um... How you knew what he was?"
-"Maybe because you told me about it yourself. A Dragon wouldn't do much with boughs with acorns, unless it's setting them on fire".
"You're right... -smiled the daughter a little. -Now... Thanks for understanding me and accepting my love for him.
"There's a young tree growing right where we spent that peaceful time. Only this, will make me return there.
"And I don't want to see any other of his kind, because... Anyway, I would attack them furiously even for the memory of my lost beloved..."
-"I know it, too, my daughter. But please try not to feel that way. Let your love for him grow much bigger -like that tree- than your hate for the other Unicorns... Because doing that you'll always be happy".
