Infinity Crisis Aftermath: Batman Family

Gotham City, Earth-1989

A futuristic aircraft raced through the skies over Gotham City. The aircraft had resembled a mix of a sleek jet and a large black bat. The pilot was a man wearing a black suit with a gray utility belt around the waist. The black boots and gloves had the appearance of being melded into the suit. The chest had an emblem of a large red stylized bat, and the cowl completely covered the face.

Batman. Real name: Terrence "Terry" McGinnis. Birthplace: Gotham City. Affiliation: Justice League. Physiology: Baseline Human. Powers and abilities: No innate superpowers. Trained martial artist and detective. Batsuit provides short-range flight capabilities and enhanced physical abilities.

"Thanks for helping me deal with those Jokerz." Terry thanked the woman sitting next to him. She wore a dark purple suit with dark blue highlights. A golden utility belt encircled her waist, and a pair of small crossbows were holstered at her sides. Her cowl let her dark hair free, and her costume was completed by a dark blue scalloped cape.

Huntress. Real Name: Helena Wayne. Birthplace: Gotham City. Affiliation: Justice League. Physiology: Baseline Human. Powers and abilities: No innate superpowers. Trained martial artist and detective. Huntress costume provides enhanced physical abilities.

"No problem. I was happy to help. You're like a little brother to me, after all." Helena smiled. "Besides, I was in town and I admit, I was looking for a bit of action. Surprised you didn't have Matt with you tonight."

"It's a school night." Terry explained. "Matt only does the Robin thing on weekends." The two flew in silence for a short time. "So, that whole Dusting thing, huh?"

"Yeah. Brrrrr." Helena shivered. "Seeing Dad crumble to dust before my eyes..."

"I saw it happen to Matt." Terry recalled. "And to Maxine. I shudder to think what could have happened if they never were restored."

"What I wonder is what caused that whole thing?" Helena remarked. "It felt so...out of nowhere."

"Mm." Terry agreed. "I know it wasn't any one of our regular rogues, although that new Poison Ivy did claim credit for it."

"Not surprising." Helena rolled her eyes. "Half of the earth's human population seemingly dead? She'd love it." Their conversation ended up getting interrupted by beeping. Beeping that was heard from the console on the Batwing. The two superheroes looked at each other.

"It's Dad." Helena said.

"Can't keep the boss waiting." Terry pressed a button, and on a screen, appeared a gray-haired man wearing a black turtleneck sweater.

"Hi, Dad!" Helena waved.

"Hello, Helena." Bruce Wayne smiled warmly at his daughter. "You two did some good work tonight."

"Thanks, boss." Terry said.

"How's Mom doing? Is she still down in Africa?" Helena asked. Bruce nodded.

"She's doing fine. Big cat sanctuaries have been Selena's big passion for years. I got a call from Nightwing down in Bludhaven."

"Need a hand down there?" Terry asked.

"Dick, Stephanie, and Cassandra have things handled down there. But they found something unusual."

"Unusual?" Helena asked.

"Come to the cave." Bruce ordered. "You need to see this." He ended the transmission. Terry and Helena looked at each other.

"You get the feeling it's going to be one of those nights?" Terry asked.

"In this business, that happens more than you think." Helena nodded. "Let's roll." The craft headed back towards Wayne Manor.

A short time later, the two superheroes were standing with Bruce in front of a large screen. The screen depicted a handsome Black man with graying temples wearing a black suit of his own with a blue and gold bird-like emblem that went over his shoulders and arms. His identity was hidden by a black domino mask. Both Terry and Helena had their masks removed.

"Talk to us, Dick." Bruce said.

"Spoiler, Batgirl and I were dealing with a rogue splinter group of the League of Assassins when we discovered they had a rather...unusual target." Dick moved aside, revealing the body on the slab behind him. The body was of a bald skinny green-skinned alien, with large ears and wearing a purple-and-black uniform.

"The hell is that thing?" Terry asked. Bruce looked at the cadaver on the slab.

"Hmmm..." Bruce thought out loud. "It's clearly not Martian."

"It's still obviously alien, though." Helena said. "Maybe one of the Lanterns would know. Space is their thing."

"I called the League." Dick nodded. "Neither J'onn nor Baz said this thing doesn't look like any alien that they've ever seen, but they're looking into it."

"His quest will be fruitless." Another voice announced. "As this being is an alien from another dimension." The source walked up: A tall man with short dark hair. He wore a blue pea coat, a gray vest with a white shirt and blue ascot tie. His outfit was completed by a pair of blue jeans and a brown messenger bag over his shoulder.

"Friend of yours?" Helena asked the boys.

"How were you able to enter my cave?" Bruce narrowed his eyes at the new arrival.

"I do have my ways." The man stated. "I am the Doctor." He pointed at the screen. "And this creature is called a Skrull."

"A Skrull, huh?" Helena blinked.

"Skrull." Terry repeated. "I swear, that sounds like something out of an old comic book."

"It comes from another reality." The Doctor explained. "A reality similar to the one my two companions come from."

"Companions?" Terry asked. Two more figures emerged from the darkness next to the Doctor. One was a skinny, friendly looking blond man wearing a green jumpsuit. The other was a tall Amazon of a woman, her brown hair done up in a 1940s style. She wore a costume similar to Captain America's, only with the British Union Flag on the chest. On her back was strapped a round shield with the same flag in the center bordered by concentric circles of blue, white, and red.

Terry whistled at the woman. "I take it you are a bit of a gym rat."

"Something like that." The woman smiled, showing an English accent.

"This is Steven Rogers and Captain Margret Carter." The Doctor introduced.

"Call me Peggy." Captain Carter smiled. She saw the Skrull's body. "Bloody hell. That's the fourth reality we found these green blighters in."

"Other dimensions." Helena blinked. "That's...not new to us."

"Oh?" Steve asked.

"When I was growing up, Mom and Dad regaled me of the old Justice League/Justice Society teamups that they had back in their League days." Helena smiled.

"Ted Grant still owes me fifty bucks." Bruce grumbled.

"Oh yeah, that protege of his called you a dork." Terry laughed. This made Bruce shoot him a look, Dick chuckle, and Helena giggle.

"What was her name, Yelena?"

"Yolanda." Helena giggled. "She's gonna go far."

"I remember that." Dick chuckled. "Bruce shot her that patented Bat-Glare of his and she just rolled her eyes." Bruce rolled his own eyes.

"Young punks got no respect for their elders these days."

"So, this...Skrull thing is from another dimension?" Dick asked.

"Indeed." The Doctor confirmed.

"The three of us have discovered them in four other realities so far." Steve informed.

"One of my past selves and future selves has also found more of them running around in a variety of alternate Earths." The Doctor added.

"What're these things after?" Bruce asked.

"We think they're out to destroy the Multiverse." Captain Carter explained. "Steve and I...we believe they're the reason our reality is gone."

"Gone?" Helena wondered.

"Yeah." Steve nodded. "Our reality was...destroyed. Consumed by...white. A wall of white."

"And you think these Skrulls are involved in that?"

"I discovered them in their reality before it was destroyed." The Doctor explained. "I doubt it was coincidental."

"Only good thing about that madness was that the temporal chaos before it got us back together again." Peggy sighed.

"Why should we trust you?" Helena asked.

"Lady's got a point." Terry agreed. "How do we know that you guys aren't these 'Skrull' things yourselves?"

"You're just going to have to." Captain Carter sighed. "I know. But we are who we say we are. We want to find out why the Skrulls have come to this Earth. This faction of them clearly has dark goals in mind, and we need all the help we can get to stop them." Bruce walked up to Captain Carter and narrowed his eyes at her.

"...She's the real deal." Bruce concluded. "She reminds me of Clark. Man has a knack for being inspiring." The retired superhero turned to Dick. "Dick, call the League. Tell them to keep an eye out for more of these Skrulls. And also warn the JSA."

"They can shapeshift." Captain Carter added. "Remember, they can pose as anyone."

"Great, how are we supposed to find them, then?" Terry asked.

"I can provide devices to help detect them." The Doctor offered. He pulled a small watch-like device out of his messenger bag. He looked at Helena and Terry. "I can also help modify your suits to help you find them."

"Let's get to work, then." Bruce agreed. "The first thing we have to establish is motive. Why are they here? What do they want?"

"That's why we're here." The Doctor said. "We have to find the answer to those questions..."

Yup! It's not just 13 and 7 investigating the Skrulls' little multiversal invasion, we have the 8th Doctor involved as well! His outfit is a mix of his Big Finish outfit and the costume he wore in "Night of the Doctor". Also, Earth-1989 is basically based on the two Tim Burton-directed Batman movies. And I felt that for a future of it, I'd mix in some elements of Batman Beyond and the pre-Crisis Earth-Two, hence Terry McGinnis and Helena Wayne being Batman and Huntress here.
