Happy Power Rangers Day!

I had wanted to get at least one more chapter written before I posted this, but then I decided I wanted to post this for Power Rangers Day, which is, coincedentally, my birthday.

So here we are! Onto Beast Morphers at last!

Hope you enjoy!

Chapter 1: Beasts Unleashed

Soft and peaceful music filled the air, interrupting the quiet that 6am brought, but Asher was already wide awake. She emerged from the bathroom of her small apartment, and lifted her phone from beside her pillow to turn the alarm off. When the quiet returned, she took a quiet breath, and smiled to herself.

"Today's the day," she said under her breath, lifting her glasses from the bedside table. She slipped them on before fixing her long brown hair in a ponytail, flicking her bangs out of her face. Asher found herself oddly calm despite everything as she lifted her jumper. "Oh, Wristcom," she remembered, grabbing the device from beside her bed.

When Asher returned to the bathroom to scrutinise herself in the mirror, big green eyes stared back at her from behind her black-rimmed glasses. Her hair was neat, and she wore a pair of black jeans with her purple jumper, which was already slipping from one shoulder and showing the pink strap of her cami. "Not like the outfit is going to matter for long," Asher gave herself a small excited smile, before pulling on her purple low-tops. Grabbing her bag and keys, Asher left her apartment and made her way into town.

Coral Harbour was almost silent at that time, with only a few people trudging by on their way to work. There were already cars on the road, with the drivers drinking coffee and hoping they wouldn't be late. They barely spared Asher a second look as she jogged down the street, barely weighed down by her bag as she hurried to her favourite training spot.

"Mornin' Ashe," the girl opening up yawned widely. "You're a little early this time," she smiled to the taller girl, who usually arrived just after opening time. "Honestly, how are you willingly up this early?" Chloe asked after another yawn.

"You ask me this every time you open," Asher pointed out, smiling in amusement. "And good morning to you too, Chloe," she added, making the girl laugh as she opened the doors and let Asher inside.

"Gee, thanks," she said dryly. Chloe liked that Asher showed up every day when she was opening the centre. Not just because she helped with getting the youth centre ready for the day, but she was sweet and friendly. "So how goes the training? You gonna tell me what it's for?" Chloe asked as she went behind the smoothie bar, tossing her jacket onto the stool in the corner.

"It's going well, thanks," Asher answered simply as she helped lift chairs from the tables. Chloe rolled her eyes, but it was in good humour. Asher never told her why she trained so much, and she suspected she never would. "How's college going?" she asked once the last of the place was set up, and she went to the smoothie bar.

"Exams are coming up. I'm so screwed," Chloe sighed. "The usual?" she asked as Asher leaned on the bar.

"Yeah, please," Asher nodded. "I'm sure you'll do great. You're really smart," she encouraged, and Chloe gave an embarrassed laugh, turning away to hide her blush.

"Okay, stop distracting me while I work," once she'd served Asher two smoothies, Chloe gave a haughty sniff. Asher laughed and nodded.

"Sure. Don't work too hard," she teased. Chloe stuck out her tongue and left her to it as Asher took a sip of the pink smoothie in front of her. She then pushed the purple smoothie slightly to her left, and a moment later someone leaned their head on her shoulder. "Good morning to you too," she chuckled, not moving.

"Mmph," was the only greeting she got from the tall blond that was her usual sparring partner. Not that she was surprised. He took the extra smoothie and finished it in a few gulps, before taking a deep breath.

"Better?" Asher teased as Blaze turned to her.

"How are you always so awake this early?" he complained, finally able to form a coherent sentence.

"I take after my mother," Asher answered simply. "You think you'd be used to it by now. You've had to get up this early for a while, and that's not about to change," she pointed out, and Blaze's face lit up with a grin.

"You're right," he agreed, and swiped the smoothie in front of her. "So let's get ready for some training. Ravi and Roxy should be here soon," Blaze took a gulp, before Asher stole it back. He grinned, and she just took a drink, not reacting.

"I'm just surprised that you usually beat Ravi here," Asher spoke once she finished her smoothie and they made their way to the changing rooms.

"You know why that is," Blaze shrugged.

"True," Asher nodded. "I just don't know why they decided to keep it a secret from us," she said.

"A badly kept secret. I think half of Grid Battleforce knew they were dating," Blaze scoffed, before shrugging again. "Though I don't think it's gonna matter anymore," he said, and his cryptic words made Asher's eyebrows raise, and she looked up at him.

"Why's that?" she asked, and Blaze frowned.

"Because Ravi broke up with her after the announcement," Asher's eyes widened. She'd figured out that the two were dating the moment she'd seen them together, not long after Roxy had joined Grid Battleforce. And the last she'd seen, the two were still very much infatuated with one another. "You really didn't know? I figured you'd made the connection, since you pretty much memorised that handbook the Commander gave us," Blaze looked a little surprised at how stunned Asher was. She immediately groaned.

"That dumb rule, really?" she asked, a little exasperated.

"You know how rigid Ravi is when it comes to the rules," Blaze reminded her, a little amused by how off guard Asher had been with the news. Normally she seemed to know everything first. She was sharp, and smart enough to keep up with Grid Battleforce's resident genius, and while she was on the awkward side and could be shy with new people, she'd gotten along well with those in their training group.

"Just like his mum," Asher shook her head, irritated with their friend. Roxy was bound to be crushed. "Meet you out there," she told Blaze as they reached the changing rooms.

"Better bring your A-Game, Bly," he taunted as he pushed the door open, and she rolled her eyes, not responding as she went into the changing room.

"Stupid Ravi," Asher muttered to herself as she pulled off her jumper and folded it up to put into the locker. As she thought about how to approach Roxy about it, her phone buzzed suddenly. A little surprised, she pulled it from her pocket. "Ryne?" she murmured when she saw who was sending her a message, and smiled.

Ryne wasn't like Asher in the slightest.

After almost missing the bus to Coral Harbour, late from sleeping through her alarm, Ryne had proceeded to fall asleep for the entire journey there. When she'd arrived, she was disorientated, and it took her a few seconds to remember where she was.

Climbing off the bus, Ryne squinted in the bright morning sun, and lifted her hand to cover her face. She yawned, and brushed her long fluffy black hair out of her face and pulled off her large beige woolen cardigan to remain in her white t-shirt, blue shorts and black boots.

Checking her phone, Ryne pulled her bag onto her shoulder, and followed the directions that Asher had sent her, walking towards the youth centre as she pulled on her headphones, listening to her music as she walked. She glanced at the directions as she walked through the city, while looking around at her surroundings.

"It's real different to Briarwood," she murmured to herself, looking up at the tall, modern buildings that surrounded her. She'd visited New Tech City a lot, as well as places like Amber Beach, Summer Cove, and even spent several summers over in Zandar, but there was something different to Coral Harbour, and she liked it.

Finally she reached Riptide Gym, where people were coming and going, both for workouts, and just to hang out. Ryne looked up at the building, and took a picture on her phone before walking inside.

The inside was busy, with people working out on the equipment to the side, while the main part of the hall was in use for a karate lesson. Ryne barely glanced at them as the teacher walked between the students, counting their strikes, and went to the counter.

"Welcome," a cheery blonde smiled at her. "What can I get you?" she asked as Ryne pulled her headphones down around her neck and looked up at the selection.

"Um…" her voice was quiet, and the girl behind the counter leaned forwards slightly. "Strawberry, please," she requested, handing over the money, and the girl nodded.

"Coming right up," as Ryne took a seat at the counter, dropping her bag to the ground, she turned to watch the bustle of the place. "It's always this crazy," the girl told her, and Ryne glanced at her.

"I figured a gym would have different rooms and stuff for all this. It's so...out in the open," Ryne admitted as she looked over to the people on the machines nearby.

"Yeah, I thought that too," the girl laughed, setting the smoothie down in front of Ryne.

"Thanks," she pulled the drink close and took a drink, thirsty after sleeping the entire journey to Coral Harbour.

"I've not seen you around here before. New to the gym?" the girl asked, and Ryne laughed a little.

"New to town," she corrected. "I'm visiting my cousin, she should be training here," she explained.

'After years of waiting, we are now just hours away from when Mayor Daniels will pull the switch for the first time,' the two looked up at the TV by the bar. A blonde woman was on camera, looking excited. Behind her, people were setting up what seemed to be a podium. 'And clean Morph-X energy will flow from the Power Rangers' Morphin' Grid into the towers, all around Coral Harbour,' she announced, and Ryne tilted her head. 'We're tapping into the energy source that gives the Power Rangers their heroic abilities. Is this a stroke of genius that will save the planet from pollution? Or is it in fact...a dangerous mistake? Today is the day we'll find out,' she said, and Chloe snorted.

"Not ominous at all," she muttered, and Ryne tore her eyes away from the news report and back to her.

"Not a fan of the idea of using that kinda power?" she asked curiously. It was all she'd heard about for months, as Grid Battleforce prepared to test out using the power of the Morphin' Grid in the city as a new form of energy. She could remember when they'd first harnessed the power, a little over ten years ago.

"I can't pretend to understand much of it," Chloe shrugged. "But messing with stuff to do with Power Rangers...seems a bit risky," she commented, before turning to serve another customer. Ryne had to agree, not entirely sure it was the best thing to do.

"Whoa!" she turned, hearing the gasp behind her, and saw the teacher of the karate class standing in front of one student, who looked alarmed. "That was really close," he complained, having narrowly avoided the kick from the teacher.

"Blaze!" Ryne wasn't the only one to have noticed, as three others walked over. "Leave him alone!" the dark haired young man told him, but Blaze was annoyed by the boy who'd joined the class late, and had decided to listen to music instead of paying attention.

"Back off, Ravi," Blaze told him as Roxy frowned and Asher sighed. Blaze turned back to the young man, and kicked out again, but he dodged with a cry. The rest of the students backed off quickly.

"Here we go," Asher pushed up her glasses to pinch the bridge of her nose. Blaze bombarded the new student with attacks, but he dodged each one before standing tall to block more. He then flipped over Blaze's head, and caught his next punch.

"Careful!" the boy warned. "Someone's gonna get hurt," his words only riled Blaze up more, as none of his moves connected.

"That someone is you!" Blaze yanked his arm free and kicked the boy, landing a blow this time. The boy stumbled backwards, barely managing to stay on his feet as Blaze chased him down. He threw a punch, and the sound of metal echoed through the gym, along with a sympathetic hiss as Blaze's fist hit the metal pole.

"Tried to warn you," his opponent shrugged, looking a little smug. Blaze growled as his temper grew worse, and he kicked up the sticks lying next to him on his bag. Dodging, the other boy winced as he tried to block the strikes, and jumped backwards.

"Blaze, stop it!" Roxy pleaded with him. Blaze ignored her, losing one of the sticks to his opponent, and the two continued to fight until Blaze was disarmed, and the other young man held them both against him.

"Okay, I'll admit it. A couple of your moves were a little...challenging," he breathed heavily.

"Devon!" the sharp shout made everyone jump and look around quickly. A man in a suit stood in the entrance to the gym, with a woman behind him carrying a table. Devon winced, and turned to him.

"Hey dad…" he greeted with a weak smile.

"His dad's the mayor?" Asher whispered to Roxy and Ravi, stunned as everyone in the room recognised the man.

"You are leaving, now!" he ordered Devon, who sighed.

"Thanks for the lesson, Blaze," Devon tossed the blond the sticks and walked away.

"This isn't over," Blaze warned him, but Devon ignored him, grabbing his bag to go and change.

"You're such an idiot," Asher grabbed the blond's wrist and dragged him away.

"Hey!" he protested, but she had a strong grip, and he hesitated to say anything when he saw her annoyed look. She dragged him away from the spectators, before whirling around.

"Don't hey me, Blaze," Asher growled at him. "What do you think Commander Shaw would say if she got word that you lost your temper and got in a fight with Mayor Daniels' son?" she demanded, and he huffed, looking away.

"He had an attitude problem," he muttered.

"You both had attitude problems," Asher muttered, lifting his arm to study his bruising hand. "Not broken," she confirmed as she forced him to flex his fingers, wincing as he did. Looking around to make sure nobody was coming, Asher took a breath, and her skin began to light up with golden light. Blaze flinched, averting his gaze from his glowing friend, and the pain faded from his hand. When the glow died, he looked down at his hand to see the bruising had faded.

"That never fails to amaze me," he commented as Asher released him. He then groaned when her fist sank into his stomach, and he doubled over.

"Don't make me have to use it again for something so dumb," she warned him, still angry. "I'm going to change and meet Ryne. I'll see you guys back at GB," with that, Asher turned and stalked off.

"At least someone can get through to you," Ravi said as he approached, arms folded. "I'm surprised she even healed your hand," he commented as Blaze rubbed his stomach.

"Me too," Blaze admitted. Both he and Ravi had been amazed by Asher's fighting skills when she'd joined Grid Battleforce, shortly after them. It was clear she'd been training far before deciding to join. But they hadn't expected her to display an array of powers, including a healing power, which she had only shown Blaze, Ravi and Roxy a short time ago. She'd said she needed to trust them, if they were to be a team, and it seemed to bring them all closer.

Asher's anger had faded by the time she was back in her usual clothes and approaching Ryne. The younger girl was still sitting at the smoothie bar, occasionally talking to Chloe, while watching people come and go through the gym. When Asher walked over to her, Ryne immediately looked over, and broke into a smile.

"Ashe!" she jumped from her seat and threw herself into Asher's arms, making the taller girl laugh.

"I've missed you too," Asher teased, but hugged her tightly. "How was your trip? Everything okay?" she asked, releasing Ryne, who smiled up at her. Even now, she adored her older cousin.

"It flew by," she answered, and Asher raised an eyebrow.

"You slept the whole way, didn't you?" she accused, and Ryne went red.

"Maybe," she mumbled. Asher laughed, not surprised in the slightest. She had to admit, she envied how easily Ryne could fall asleep anywhere.

"Come on. I'll show you to my place, and when I get back later, we can grab dinner. Sound good?" Asher offered, and Ryne nodded.

"Sounds great," she grinned. Both waved to Chloe, who smiled back at the pair as they left. "So what happened with your friend? How bad did you kick his butt?" Ryne asked as they walked through the streets of Coral Harbour. "You looked pretty mad," Ryne was grinning, having seen how mad Asher had been when she'd dragged Blaze away.

"I didn't kick his butt," Asher looked embarrassed as Ryne giggled.

"Are you sure? I've seen you look at Kai and Niall the same way you looked at him, and when that happens, they tend to end up eating dirt," she teased, and Asher huffed, reaching out to mess up Ryne's already dishevelled hair. All it did was make her cousin laugh more.

"Blaze is an idiot with a short fuse. But he's a good guy. He has to be, considering…" Asher trailed off, and Ryne's eyebrow arched up as she looked up at her.

"Considering what?" she asked, and Asher bit back her groan. When Ryne had such an expression on her face, it meant that her curiosity was piqued.

"Nothing," Asher told her, but saw the look in her eyes. She was interested now. "So, how's Briarwood been?" she pushed to change the subject, and saw Ryne's lower lip jut out in annoyance.

"Fine, nothing unusual to report," she shrugged, before grinning. "I did send this to Nathan, Kai and Niall," she held up her phone, and Asher's eyes widened as she saw herself in the picture, wearing her training gi and looking annoyed.

"Why are you such a brat?" she groaned as Ryne started to laugh. Asher shook her head, but couldn't help but smile at Ryne's infectious laughter, even if she had sent a picture to Asher's younger brother, and their twin cousins, who were almost guaranteed to make fun of Asher for it. "I haven't missed you at all," she declared, but Ryne just grinned at her.

"You totally have," she said, and Asher just sighed.

After leaving Ryne at her apartment with the promise that she would only be gone a few hours and then they could get dinner, Asher made her way into Grid Battleforce's main building. She paused as she stood inside, admiring the large entrance hall as those who passed greeted her, all recognising her.

"Ashe!" she smiled wider at the loud call, and saw a tiny young woman waving eagerly at her. Beside her stood her larger but younger brother, who was also waving.

"Hey guys," she greeted Ben and Betty, who had been friendly to her from the moment they'd met. "Desk duty today?" she asked, seeing them take a visitor's pass and study it before nodding them along.

"We're to check all visitors to the base today," Betty nodded.

"Punishment for causing that explosion in Nate's lab last week," Ben clarified. Asher winced sympathetically. The two were both very smart - smarter than most gave them credit for - but they had a tendency to go overboard. Rather, Betty had a tendency to go overboard, and Ben usually ended up going along with it.

"But we're okay with it! Today's an important day!" Betty smiled happily, always determined to see the positive side of any situation. "We'll make sure nobody gets in who shouldn't be here," she declared, and Asher's smile grew.

"You said that your cousin's visiting you? Busy time for it," Ben commented, remembering what Asher had mentioned in passing a few days ago.

"Yeah," Asher nodded, smiling wider. "I just have to hope the little goof doesn't get bored before I get back," she said, making the two grin. "I'll introduce you to her when we have a minute," she told them, wanting them to meet Ryne.

"Hey, Asher!" she looked around to see Blaze waving her over.

"I better go. Don't go too crazy, and don't forget that the Mayor is coming today," she reminded the siblings, who nodded as Asher walked over to meet Blaze.

"Nervous?" he asked, grinning with excitement as they scanned their passes and walked through.

"Of course. You?" Asher asked, but already knew the answer. Very little scared Blaze, and he was always ready to take the lead. They'd become good friends during their time as cadets, and she was glad that he had been chosen with Ravi and Roxy to be her teammates.

"Nope," Blaze answered confidently, and as they walked along the corridors, neither noticed Ryne walk through, disposing of the pass that she'd swiped from an unsuspecting guard as she slipped into the shadows.

"Oh man, I'm totally lost," Ryne gulped as she slipped into a room unnoticed by the guards stationed at the doors. She'd sneaked out only a little while after Asher had left her to her own devices, and followed her the entire way to Grid Battleforce. Her cousin was too preoccupied to notice, and Ryne wanted to know what secret she was hiding.

"Unload it right over there," Ryne ducked out of sight as a stern voice spoke loudly.

"Speaking of lost…" she murmured as she saw Devon push a cart in, trying to hide how nervous he looked. The man with him strode off, and Devon gaped at the machines that were all around the room. Ryne didn't blame him. She was just as fascinated by what was going on. Across the room, she saw four body scanners, where the people inside were obscured from view.

"What you're about to see is classified," Devon whirled around when Commander Shaw led Mayor Daniels into the lab. "Forget what you've heard, Mr. Mayor. Morph-X will do a lot more than power the city's lights and automobiles," Ryne had heard all about Commander Shaw from Asher. She was a tough woman who had been helping to run Grid Battleforce from the moment it was up and running, with help from SPD.

"This master computer controls the entire system," a young man, barely older than Ryne, walked with them, and she recognised him instantly. He was famous, especially to her family. Nate Silva; a prodigy who had been the one to find a connection to the Morphin' Grid in a harmless way, allowing him to convert the power to energy. "When you activate the Morph-X Tower network for the first time, the Morph-X will flow from here...to here," he gestured to the four chambers. "Where it will combine with animal DNA," Nate explained. Ryne leaned forwards, aware that Devon was close to her own hiding spot, so she could listen in. "Then, it'll flow into our four subjects, mutating their DNA," Nate explained to the sceptical Mayor.

"Mutating them into what?" Mayor Daniels asked, confused.

"Into our secret weapons," Commander Shaw gestured to one of the screens, and the man's eyes widened.

"You're creating Power Rangers," he realised, and Ryne's eyes widened. So that was the big secret Asher was keeping from her.

"That's correct," Commander Shaw confirmed.

"Rangers? Cool," Devon laughed quietly, making Ryne smile faintly.

"The mutation should work perfectly with teenagers. And our top four cadets have proven they have the courage and fighting skills it takes," Commander Shaw continued, determined to win over the man. Mayor Daniels had already expressed his concern about using Morph-X, scared that it would lure villains to attack the city.

"We've developed special equipment: Beast-X Blasters, Beast-X Sabers, Beast-X Morphers. And...Morph-X Keys," Nate gestured to the equipment on the table.

Ryne leaned further forwards, very interested in what Nate had to say as she saw the equipment. Her fingers twitched, as she fought the impulse to examine them. In her fascination, she missed Devon's distraction, and he watched the Morph-X nearby turn purple, and green again. "These transporters can send anything to anywhere," Nate handed over a small blue crystal device to Mayor Daniels, and walked over to a computer. "Wait till you see this," he activated a program, and the sabre that had been hovering between two of the crystals vanished.

"Where'd it go?" Mayor Daniels asked, astonished.

"Exactly where I sent it," Nate held out his hand, and the sabre appeared.

"Very impressive," Mayor Daniels nodded, won over by Nate's creations.

"So if someone or something comes to steal our Morph-X, we'll be ready," Commander Shaw spoke, soothing the man's earlier fears.

"I sincerely hope you're right," he looked around, and spotted the four scanners nearby. "Can I meet your team?" Mayor Daniels asked as he started towards them, but Commander Shaw quickly blocked his path.

"I'm sorry," she stopped him as he looked a little surprised. "Their identities must remain secret. I'm sure you understand," she said, keeping a neutral expression. The Mayor nodded slowly, but his gaze remained on the four for a moment longer.

"Of course," he agreed.

"Mr. Mayor?" his secretary spoke for the first time. "The ceremony begins soon," she reminded him. Mayor Daniels looked from her, back to Commander Shaw.

"Good luck, Commander," he nodded at her. She nodded back, watching as he walked away. "Nate," the man nodded to the young genius, who smiled.

"Thank you, sir," he spoke politely. As Mayor Daniels left, Nate walked back over to one of the computers. "The cerebral scan is complete," he called to the Commander.

"Good. Get the Cadets into position," Commander Shaw told him. The scanners lifted, revealing Roxy, Blaze, Ravi and Asher, who sat up, looking a little tired from lying still for so long.

"Time to suit up," Nate smiled at them.

"Seriously? Them?" Devon scoffed as he watched the four climb off the scanners. The shelf then rattled, and he cried out. Ryne looked over as he fell out of his hiding place, wondering what had startled him, before ducking back into her hiding place.

"Who in the…?" Commander Shaw whirled around as she heard Devon crash into the barrels and scramble back to his feet. "Show me your clearance badge!" she ordered as she walked over and spotted him.

"He doesn't work here," Commander Shaw turned at Asher's surprised voice.

"That's the Mayor's son," Blaze growled, recognising Devon.

"Excuse me?" Commander Shaw turned back to Devon as the two guards restrained him quickly. Her anger was obvious, simmering and ready to explode.

"Sorry, my dad said he had a meeting, and, well...I just wanted to try out the simulator, so…" Devon tried to explain himself.

"We don't have time for this right now," Ravi warned quietly.

"Hold him in detention," Commander Shaw ordered.

"Wait!" Devon protested. "There's something in your computer network, a virus maybe!" Devon insisted as he struggled against the two. Nate immediately walked back over to his computer. "I'm telling you, I saw an avatar," he pleaded as he was met with several looks of disbelief. "It was this totally creepy snake! It moved in the system like it was alive!" he shouted as Asher and Roxy both looked up at the canister of Morph-X, which looked completely harmless. Blaze folded his arms, looking almost amused.

"The firewall is up and secure," Nate dismissed his claims. "All systems in the green," he told the Commander.

"That's because it's already inside!" Devon shouted.

"Take him out of here," Commander Shaw ordered, done with his story.

"You've gotta believe me!" Devon continued to shout as he was dragged out of the room.

"Told you that guy was crazy," Blaze scoffed as Devon's shouts echoed back in. They walked away to get ready, and Ryne sank to the ground behind the barrels, wondering just what Devon had seen.

"Run a full check on the computer system," Commander Shaw whispered to Nate.

"We don't have much time," he reminded her, and was met with a stern look.

"Then do it quickly," she said, so serious that Nate nodded.

"Yes ma'am," he agreed, immediately launching into a search.

Asher fidgeted when she was nervous.

And right now, she was so nervous that her hands wouldn't stop playing with the corner of her white and pink jacket. A part had come loose, and she wound it around her fingers and unwound it, staring over at the chambers.

In only a few minutes, she was going to become a Ranger. The Pink Ranger, with DNA of a Squirrel combining with her already unusual DNA. Asher took deep breaths, trying to calm her rapid heartbeats. Soon, she was joined by the other three, and as Blaze and Ravi walked ahead, Asher caught Roxy's arm, seeing her teary eyes.

"Later," Roxy whispered, smiling slightly at the concern her friend was showing. They approached the chambers, standing inside as blue light shone down and held them in place.

Ryne watched from her hiding place, not daring to move. She'd watched Nate scan for any problems with the system, and come up negative. Nothing wrong at all, and he'd sounded confident. Ryne, on the other hand, was worried. But she couldn't do anything to check without revealing herself, and she didn't want to be the reason for anything bad to happen to Asher.

"Morph-X entering the system," one of the scientists told Nate, watching the levels rising. They looked up to see the glowing green liquid flow through the pipes and reach the four chambers where the four cadets stood.

"Begin Morph-X DNA reconstruction. Subjects locked into neural aligners," Nate spoke as the Morph-X began to fill the containers over their heads. "Phenomenal! It's working," he allowed himself an excited smile, right before an alarm blared.

"Wait!" the other scientist's eyes widened. "The system's detecting a foreign virus," he warned.

"I am Evox!" a talking snake appeared on the computer screen, eyes glowing red as it laughed.

"Evox? Who?" Ryne breathed, standing up as she forgot all about hiding.

"The Morphin' Grid will be mine!" Evox declared as the Morph-X turned purple.

"That virus! It's infecting the Morph-X!" Nate realised with horror.

'Nate, abort the Morph Sequence!' Commander Shaw ordered, and Nate quickly got to work trying to shut down the program.

'This is Commander Shaw!' the Commander's voice blared through the base. 'All non-essential personnel, evacuate,' her orders echoed, and everyone began to leave as Nate moved quickly.

"Nothing! The system's not responding!" the other scientist warned as he worked with Nate to try and stop it.

"I can't stop the Morph!" Nate was panicking, and Ryne groaned.

"I'm gonna get in so much trouble for this…" she muttered, but when she looked over to where Asher was staring blankly ahead like the others, oblivious to the danger she was in, Ryne knew she had to step in. "Ashe can shout at me later," she jumped out of her hiding place and went to one of the computers, starting to search the system.

"Hey!" the other scientist noticed her.

"Okay, you can shout at me later," she grumbled, searching the systems. Her heart sank as she saw the data in front of her. "That virus has deadlocked any way of stopping this sequence," Ryne rushed over to Nate, who was torn between stopping her and stopping the virus. "Is there any failsafe? An external off switch?" she asked, looking up at the young man who was barely taller than her.

"No! All the failsafes were programmed in here! And they've all been cut off!" he exclaimed, and there was a thud nearby. Looking up, their eyes widened as they saw Blaze on the ground, unconscious, while a flickering version of him stood in crimson armour. He smirked as he stepped out of the chamber, before pulling on the cat-like helmet.

"Stop right there!" the guards warned as they pulled their blasters, but before they could even aim them, Blaze blasted them with purple energy, and they crashed into the wall, not moving. Nate and the other scientists ducked behind the counters. Ryne froze, seeing how dangerous he was, and her gaze turned to Asher, trying to figure out how to stop the virus from claiming her too. Roxy then collapsed, leaving behind a virtual copy in sandy yellow rabbit-inspired armour. She giggled.

"Pathetic human," she already wore her helmet, with glowing yellow eyes. "We Avatars serve Evox now," Roxy declared as she walked over to Blaze, who laughed darkly.

"Wait, no, Ashe!" Ryne cried out as Asher collapsed too, and a copy of her stood in dark pink, almost purple armour, with points on either side of her helmet like ears.

"One more to join us," she said, looking over at Ravi, before all three turned to Ryne. "And how about we take care of this little intruder?" Asher asked, laughing quietly. Ryne could see Nate and the other scientists in the corner of her eye, looking terrified.

"I don't know who you are, but you're not Ashe. And I will stop you," Ryne promised, lifting a hand, crossing her arm across her chest. She willed the energy that had been bubbling under the surface to come out, and the blue light sparked to life in her hand.

"Oh?" Blaze cocked his head.

"Oh, please," Asher scoffed. "You haven't beaten me once. And that's not about to change, especially when-" she stopped when a blast shot out from behind Ryne and hit the cables connected to the chambers. Ravi fell to one knee, but seemed unharmed.

"What?"

"No!"

"How?" the three Avatars were distracted from Ryne as they spotted Devon holding a blaster that one of the guards had dropped.

"You!" Roxy shot her own blaster at Devon, whose eyes widened. He rolled along the ground to dodge her shots as she snarled. "You'll pay for interfering!" she declared.

"Leave him alone!" Ryne threw out her hand, and Roxy screeched as the blue energy slammed into her. She landed on the ground near Nate, who scrambled away from her.

"Little brat!" Asher aimed her blaster at Ryne, only for a trolley to crash into her. The blonde who had shoved it fell backward from the force, and Blaze growled.

"Big mistake, laundry girl," he held out a hand and called on a sword, rushing her. Zoey swung the cart again, but he shoved it away.

"Look out!" Devon reached her and pushed her down.

"Oh no you don't!" Ryne rammed her shoulder into Blaze before he could hit Devon. As Blaze caught himself, he was suddenly kicked in the back by Ravi, who looked furious. He and Zoey then started to fight Roxy, while Devon and Blaze resumed their fight from before.

"I shouldn't be surprised that you snuck in here," Asher sneered as she circled Ryne, who was standing in a fighting stance. "You always were a pain for showing up unwanted," her words made tears spring to Ryne's eyes. Asher had never been intentionally cruel to her.

"You're not Asher," Ryne repeated, more for herself than the person she was facing.

"We'll see!" Asher laughed, running at her. She swung a punch that Ryne dodged, leaving her open to a kick that the shorter girl planted against her stomach. Asher wasn't deterred, fighting back until she was able to grab Ryne, tossing her across the room and into the side of one of the machines.

"Ow…" Ryne groaned as she sank to the ground, in pain everywhere. She'd never had to fight so seriously before.

"Watch out!" Ravi ran past her and kicked Asher out of the way. He then pulled Ryne back to her feet, leading her away from Asher before the two kicked out at Blaze, who blocked their way.

Despite how hard the four strangers fought, the three armoured Avatars were far stronger, tossing the four to the ground near where their bodies lay motionless.

"Enough!" Roxy held out an arm, and wires shot out to wrap around the four, holding them in place. "The Morphin' Grid will finally belong to Evox!" she declared with a laugh.

"Why fight it?" Blaze stood beside her.

"Especially when you could join us instead," Asher chuckled. They were surprised suddenly, when two shots rang out, and a piece of metal on top of the chamber came crashing down, snapping through the wiring holding them prisoner.

"What?!"

"No!" Blaze growled, and a moment later a burst of energy filled the room.

'Initiating Morph Sequence,' the computer's announcement came right before green light appeared above the four, swirling and hiding them from view. The green then changed to Red, Blue, Yellow and Pink, before fading to reveal the four Morphed.

"What just happened?" Devon asked, confused.

"They've Morphed into Power Rangers!" Roxy growled.

"You've got to be kidding," Asher groaned.

"Whoa, she's right!" Devon exclaimed as he looked at the others with him. "You're the Yellow Ranger!" he pointed at Zoey.

"No way! Don't look now, but you're the Red Ranger," she told Devon, who looked down at his own outfit. Ryne did the same to her own, seeing her pink coat and skirt, with black leggings and pink and black boots. To say she was stunned was putting it lightly. She'd grown up hearing stories about Power Rangers. She never dreamed she'd be one.

"I don't know who you are, or what you are, but you're not Asher or Roxy, or Blaze," Ravi declared as he walked towards the two. Devon, Zoey and Ryne stood with him.

"Master of the obvious," Roxy drawled. The fighting broke out again, but the three armoured Avatars found it a lot harder this time, as Ravi easily shoved Blaze off and into Devon's path. The new Red Ranger yelled as he ran at Blaze, speeding along at a pace they couldn't keep up with. Blaze was thrown across the room from the force, groaning.

"How'd I do that?" Devon wondered, baffled by the speed.

"It's the Cheetah DNA inside you," Ravi explained. Nearby, Zoey leapt through the air with ease thanks to her new Jackrabbit DNA, clearing crazy heights with simple jumps and dodging Roxy's strikes, while Ryne found herself reacting a lot faster to Asher's attacks due to her own Squirrel DNA.

"Stay...still!" Asher growled as she threw punch after punch, but the Pink Ranger was able to react the moment Asher moved, and she moved past a punch to land one of her own.

"No thanks!" Ryne then kicked her, throwing Asher into the trolley behind her. "Geez, like my DNA wasn't weird enough to begin with," she grumbled. Using his gorilla strength, Ravi lifted several barrels at once and threw them into the three.

"Nice one!" Devon praised him as they stood with Nate.

"We have to find a way to get rid of these Avatars," Ravi said, looking around for something to help.

"How about those?" Ryne asked, seeing the massive crystal devices behind Nate.

"Yeah! They can teleport anything, right?" Devon remembered what Nate had told the Mayor during his tour of the place.

"Affirmative," Nate nodded quickly. "Whatever's caught in the beams," he explained.

"Yes! Nate, program them to teleport as far away as possible," Ravi told the young genius, who nodded.

"Preferably another dimension or something," Ryne said as Nate nodded and stood up, quickly starting to program the teleporters.

"Get up!" Roxy snapped at Blaze as the three Avatars stood again, not happy.

"They're ready," Nate told the Rangers.

"Blue, Pink, you distract them," Devon instructed.

"On it," Ravi and Ryne grabbed weapons from the table beside them as the three Avatars approached. The two fired shot after shot at the three, which Blaze deflected while the other two ducked behind him. While they did, Devon and Zoey used their new powers to place the teleporters and activate them. "Get down!" Ravi grabbed Nate, and they all ducked behind cover as the teleporter beams collided with the three.

"What?!" Roxy cried out.

"No!" there was a bright flash of light, and when it faded, the three were gone.

"It worked," Devon breathed a sigh of relief, exhausted. They were all quiet for a moment, before Ravi pulled his helmet off. The other three followed suit, looking at the hole in the ground where the computer and three Avatars had stood.

Asher lay unmoving as the lid of a stasis chamber moved to cover her. Once it hissed, closing tight, the beep of her steady heart rate joined that of Blaze and Roxy's. Ryne stood beside her, seeming unaware of Ravi staring down at Roxy, blaming himself for hurting her. Instead, all she could focus on was her cousin's peaceful face.

"Dammit…" tears welled up in her eyes and rolled down her cheeks in fat droplets, and she leaned on the chamber. "I'm sorry Ashe...I should have done something. I should have been faster. I hesitated and...and you're paying for it," Ryne whispered, unable to stop her tears. "Why didn't I do anything as soon as I knew something was wrong? Why didn't I think of destroying the pipes instead of looking for a failsafe?" she questioned.

'It's not always about what you did or didn't do. Sometimes what matters more is what you will do,' the words that her mother had told her one night when she couldn't sleep, forced their way into her mind. Ryne blinked, her tears slowing and finally stopping, and she straightened up, wiping them away.

"I will figure out how to help you," she promised her sleeping cousin, and with that walked out of the room.

"Hey," Zoey smiled as Ryne joined her and Devon. "Thanks for helping us out back there," she said to the shorter girl, not making a comment on her red eyes.

"Yeah, that power of yours, that was incredible," Devon nodded, and Ryne went red. "How'd you do that?" he asked.

"Thanks," she murmured. "It's...I got it from my dad. He says people from his planet could do...this," Ryne held up a hand and the blue energy sparked.

"Whoa," Devon leaned a little closer as Zoey looked a little nervous.

"So you're not…"

"Human?" Ryne answered for the new Yellow Ranger as she let the power fade. She gave a wry smile. "I'm about a quarter human, I think. It's a hard one to figure out at this point," she shrugged.

"Nate says if it wasn't for you guys, I'd be an Avatar too," before either Zoey or Devon could ask what she meant, they turned as Ravi walked over, having said his piece to Roxy as she slept. "Thank you," Ravi smiled.

"I'm just sorry that we couldn't help them," Zoey said, looking over to the three pods. Ravi nodded, not speaking, before turning to Devon.

"You're the guy that Blaze was hassling at the gym. I'm sorry, I should've jumped in and-"

"No sweat man," Devon stopped his apology with a smile. "I can take care of myself," he said confidently. Ravi's smile returned.

"So I've noticed. I'm Ravi," he introduced himself properly.

"Devon," they shook hands, and Zoey held her hands out to them.

"And I'm Zoey," she shook their hands, before they turned to the other, quieter young woman.

"You're Ryne, aren't you? Asher's cousin?" Ravi guessed, taking her by surprise. "Ashe told us all about you. Was super excited for your visit," he told her, and Ryne smiled sadly.

"Yeah, that's me," she nodded, waving at them.

"Nate, report," they looked around as the doors slid open and Commander Shaw walked in.

"Their bodies are perfectly healthy, but their brains are functioning as if they're in a deep sleep," Nate explained as he walked over, having been trying to wake the three. "From what I can tell, the Virus duplicated them, creating...essentially their evil twins," he tried to explain it in simpler terms. Commander Shaw frowned.

"So how do we awaken them?" she asked.

"Blaze and his Avatar, Roxy and her Avatar, Asher and her Avatar...they're linked through the Morphin' Grid," Nate told her, worried. "Meaning that as long as their Avatars are awake, our friends will be asleep," he told them.

"So the only way to wake them up…"

"Is to destroy their Avatars," Devon finished Ryne's thought. Nate nodded.

"Affirmative," he said, and turned back to Commander Shaw. "Even though I've sent their Avatars to a different dimension, they're intelligent. They'll find a way back here," Nate warned.

"That's why we have the four of you," she turned to the four. "The Power Rangers, to protect the Morphin' Grid," Commander Shaw said.

"You can count on me, mom - I mean...Commander," Ravi coloured red at his slip. His mother nodded at him, before turning to the other three.

"Zoey, Devon, Ryne, the Morph-X has combined your DNA with Cheetah DNA, Jackrabbit DNA, and Squirrel DNA. You are the Red, Yellow and Pink Power Rangers," she told them. They were quiet for a long moment, before Zoey decided to speak.

"Roxy should be here to protect the city herself, but until she can...I'm proud to take her place," Zoey said, determined to do a good job. Commander Shaw nodded, happy with her answer.

"Ashe saved me, when we were little," Ryne said quietly, thinking about what she'd been told. She was too young to remember what had happened, and Asher had never spoken about it, but her mum had told her. "And I'll repay her by doing this. I'll save her, and protect the city," Ryne said, lifting her head.

"This isn't what I expected when I woke up this morning," Devon admitted, laughing a little. "But it is pretty cool. Whatever I can do, I'm in," he decided.

"Very good," Commander Shaw nodded, taking in her three new Rangers.

"Commander Shaw," Ryne's eyes widened at the familiar voice, and they looked around as a man strode in, wearing an SPD uniform. He had black hair and green eyes, while wearing a pair of glasses, and looked scared. "Where is she?" he asked, not seeming to notice the others there. Ryne shrank away, moving behind Devon as he looked from her and back to the man who seemed familiar to him.

"Right through here," she turned and led him to the chambers in the back of the medical bay.

"Who was that?" Zoey whispered.

"That's Spencer Bly," Nate whispered back. "One of the higher-ups in SPD, he helped create Grid Battleforce," he explained. Devon whistled, amazed.

"He's Asher's dad," Ryne said quietly, watching her uncle as he stared down at the pod that Asher was sleeping in, barely seeming to take in what Commander Shaw was saying. Ravi nodded, having been aware of Asher's connections to Ranger history.

"Wow…" Zoey stared at the man, in awe. She'd read about him when she'd joined as a Battleforce Cadet. She never expected to meet him, or for him to be the father of one of the people they now had to save.

Taking a deep breath, Ryne walked over to her uncle, and he jumped when she reached out to take his hand.

"Ryne," Spencer managed a fond smile as he looked down at the girl. "Always able to sneak up on me," he put a hand on her head. "You're the new Pink Ranger?" he asked, having heard that much from Commander Shaw, who stepped out to give them a moment. Ryne nodded.

"They said if we beat their Avatars, they'll wake up," she said quietly. "I couldn't help Ashe before this, but I'll make it right," she said, and was surprised when he chuckled.

"You're so quick to blame yourself," he ruffled her hair. "Just make sure you look after yourself too. Asher won't thank you if you get hurt trying to help her," Spencer pointed out, and Ryne brightened just a little. He was right. Asher would be too busy shouting at her.

"Yeah," she nodded.

"Go. From the sounds of it, you and your new team have a lot to learn," Spencer encouraged, nudging her away. "Good luck," he told her, and Ryne nodded again.

"Thanks, Uncle Spence," she said, and walked over to rejoin her new team.

"Take them to the Battle Simulator, and teach them what they need to know. We may not have much time," Commander Shaw said. Ravi nodded as Devon's eyes lit up, realising he was getting what he wanted.

"The Battle Sim? Yes!" he cheered as they followed Ravi out. Ryne didn't pay his childish behaviour any heed, determined. She would help save Asher, and they would protect the city and the Morph-X from Evox.

Beast Morphers is going to be the last season set in the Ariverse, because as much as I love this series, if I don't end it now, I don't think I ever will xD.

For some reason this website doesn't have the characters from Beast Morphers on their list. Weird and annoying.

Either way, I hope you enjoyed the chapter, let me know what you think!
