Day 4 of Rare Pairs but also a bit of HurtNoctWeek (find them on Twitter). BUT HERE WE GO FINALLY WITH This one!

Bullets ran through the Citadel and Noctis's heart beat just as loud as the guns being fired. He jumped and dodged men left and right, trying to get through the insanity that was going down. He didn't even look back to see the fight, not wanting to know how his father was fairing.

All he had to do was do what he was told by him. He was going to warp and run as much as he could to get to a safe room. He was the only one who could go fast enough to try and avoid much of the fire.

Another gun was fired, and Noctis cried out when he felt something hit his leg. He warped again, but staged on his landing and crumbled to the floor. He cried out as he gripped his leg. He turned his head to see the assassin coming closer, pointing his gun at him again.

If he didn't move now, it was going to be all over. He summoned a small dagger from his armiger and threw it forward, warping as far as it would take him. He kept going as far as he could until he felt himself hit stasis.

"Shit! If I can't warp any further I'm done for."

He could hear the shouts of the assassins closing in behind him. He knew he wouldn't have much more time if he stood there and waited. He looked around and saw that he was near a walkway that went over the floor below. With a glance he could see Kingsglaive running around, most likely heading to fight the other assassins on that floor.

With feeling that his magic recovered slightly, just enough for one warp, Noctis did the only thing he could think of. He threw his blade one last time, over the balcony and let himself fall to the floor below. He knew it was only a couple of feet, it wouldn't kill him, but it was going to hurt like hell.

And boy did it ever.

Noctis screamed out in pain when he hit the floor, hardly able to focus on the shouting of Kingsglaive around him. He knew though he would be safe now that he was near them. Someone would pick him up and carry him to safety while the rest fought the assassins close on his tail.

His consciousness was beginning to fade, probably from the loss of blood and whatever he hurt in that fall. But he knew he was in someone's arms. Someone was going to carry him to safety and he would be okay in the end. All he could do now was close his eyes… and let the darkness take him.

When Noctis opened his eyes, he saw that he wasn't in the safe room. He wasn't in any room at all, but instead a beautiful field of blue flowers. He recognized them from the history books. They were known as Sylleblossoms and were said to be mythical flowers filled with magic. No one had ever properly seen one in person, not in at least two thousand years according to the legends he had read about.

"Where am I?" Noctis wondered as he pushed himself up.

He started to walk around the area, trying to see if he could find a building or maybe even another person. Looking all around though, he only saw the flowers go on for miles and miles. It almost looked like there was no end to them, but he knew something like that was impossible. It had to end somewhere, and maybe he could figure out just where that end was.

He decided to reach into his armiger, hoping to use something to help him warp, but nothing came to him. He blinked a few times before he tried again, but still no flashed of crystal blue appeared.

"What the… let me try normal warping," Noctis muttered.

He tried to focus himself, willing himself to warp further, but he remained where he was standing. With a frustrated sigh, he ran a hand through his hair.

"What the heck! What's wrong with me?!"

"Nothing is wrong with you, Noctis. Well, not entirely."

Noctis spun around to see a man standing there. He wore a white robe that had detailed light blue prints of Sylleblossoms on it. He maybe was just a few years older than him, but was most definitely way taller, maybe around Ignis's height or even Gladio's. Noctis wasn't too sure, but he did know that this strange man had silvery hair that shimmed in the light.

"Who are you? How do you know my name?"

"My name is Ravus, and I believe I could provide you with some helpful information."

"Like where this is? And why I can't warp or access my armiger?"

Ravus nodded. "It's because you are in a coma in the waking realm."

"I... I'm what? No way! I'm here and awake, how could I be in a coma?"

Ravus shook his head this time. "You are awake here because this is a realm between the waking and death."

Noctis stared, almost ready to still be in disbelief, but then he took in the other factors. He was in a place with Sylleblossoms, a magical legendary flower. He last remembered running from assassins, being shot, and falling from a floor down to the one below.

After that he didn't remember anything after that. There had been so much pain and chaos that it was hard to really take everything in. Starting to breath out slowly, finally taking in what Ravus said as the truth.

"So I'm dying?"

"No, not necessarily. You are between the two, stuck in a limbo hence being in this realm. Whether or not you live or die determines what happens in the waking realm," Ravus answered.

Noctis sighed as he flopped down into the flowers, falling down on to the back to stare up at the pure blue sky. "I'll be stuck here for who knows how long…"

"No worries," Ravus said as he sat down next to him. "I'll be here to accompany you."

"But what about you? Are you like…?"

"Oh no, I am not of mortal existence. I am a watcher of this realm, here to assist those who are stuck here until they return to the waking realm."

"Or die," Noctis muttered. "But I guess that's how you know my name, right?"

"Yes ,and while death may be a possibility, I prefer to not think of that as an option. Remaining positive is good for the soul to help it wake."

"That mean there are others here?" Noctis asked, feeling a tad curious. If he was going to be stuck in limbo, he might as well learn all he could.

"Yes there are others here as well, but there are not all too many. But I am sure in time you will find those others if you so choose."

Noctis hummed, running his hands through the flowers next to him. "Guess that could be interesting. Anything else to do here?"

"We can create whatever we can to help accommodate people who come here. Anything you need, let me know, alright?"

"Can you create a lake to fish?" Noctis asked, suddenly rather intrigued. "With really big fish and stuff too?"

"I can," Ravus said calmly.

With the wave of his hand, the land shifted around them. A lake forward just a few feet ahead of Noctis and he smiled at the sight of it."A good fishing pole and tackle box too?"

With another nod Ravus did just that and Noctis stared down at a very nice and sturdy fishing pole. He held it tightly in his hands as he jumped back up to his feet. "Well I guess being here won't be so bad. Got something fun to pass the time at least."

"Really?" Ravus asked, sounding a little in disbelief. "How does this count as something fun?"

"Have you ever been fishing before, dude?"

"First of all, my name is Ravus, not Dude," Ravus deadpanned. "Second, I am a watcher in this realm, I do not spend my time fishing."

"Well," Noctis said with a grin. "Looks like it's time to learn. Come on and join me."

With Ravus following behind him, they headed to the dock that led partway into the lake. Noctis set up his fishing pole with a shiny lure and sat down on the edge of the dock, casting the line out to the water.

He could see that Ravus was staring at him the entire time, looking confused and puzzled as Noctis sat there relaxed. He hummed cheerfully to himself though, trying to enjoy as much as he could.

Even if he was stuck in limbo, he wasn't going to just give up. He knew in the waking world he was probably getting the best medical attention that he could. Presuming Ignis and Gladio had made it through the attack, they were no doubt at his side every day.

Though, that did bring him to think about another thought. "Uh, Ravus? I got a question."

"What is it?"

"Do you know… is uh my dad here?"

"Your father?"

"During the attack that got me here… I ran leaving my dad behind. I don't know if he was hurt or not. If he…" Noctis swallowed.

"I do not know of anyone else who has entered this realm recently besides you. If someone died though without first entering this realm then I would have no knowledge of that."

Noctis shuddered. While knowing that his father wasn't in limbo was partly good, it didn't help lift the rest of his fears. If he wasn't in limbo that meant one of two things, and he was afraid of what one of them was.

Suddenly he felt a warm blanket placed over him. "Huh? What's this for?"

"You were shivering. Were you not cold?" Ravus asked, tilting his head.

"N-No… just was worried," Noctis said as he placed the fishing pole in a knothole. He then pulled the blanket tighter. "But thanks."

Rauvs moved to sit down next to Noctis, bringing his face closer than before. It was only now that Noctis saw the man's eyes, one being purple and the other an icy blue. He had never seen something so unique before. He found it rather pretty to look at, but he made sure to quickly look away. Surely staring at a watcher of a limbo realm wasn't a cool thing to do.

"Why are you staring at me?" Noctis decided to ask.

"Only curious. You say you are not cold yet you tighten the blanket as if you need it."

"I'm just… I guess I feel a bit cold. Just a lot of thoughts, you know? I'm in limbo. I almost died during an assassination attempt. I don't even know when I will wake up."

Ravus stared again, but he offered a small smile. "I believe that you will wake up. Keep your soul happy and do not give up on yourself. I'm sure you have many people waiting for you."

"Y-Yeah I guess so… being a prince I got a lot of people. Dad, Ignis, Gladio, Prompto, Iris… and I guess all the Crownsguard and Kingsglaive care about me too."

"You see? You have a life still waiting to be lived. Give yourself time to recover and before you know it, you will be back."

Noctis smiled at the warm encouragement, it did help alleviate some of the internal worries he was feeling. "But what about you? What does a watcher of the limbo realm do? Or like do you have a family or something?"

Ravus shook his head. "We are created by the Astrals to watch and help those who are here. We have no family, only this purpose that we live out throughout time."

Noctis frowned. "That sounds… kind of sad no offense."

"I don't understand why it is sad. It is my purpose. That's all there is."

"But there's more to life than just doing that!"

"I do not have a life like yours, Noctis. I am a being beyond mortal. Not an Astral or Messenger, but still similar."

"That's still not a life. You need to do more even if you are just here. You said you could create anything! You could have so much more fun if you ultizled that!"

Ravus looked at him, more confused than before. "I still do not understand."

"Here," Noctis said as he picked up his fishing pole. "Take this and try fishing."

"Why?"

"Because! You should try and learn to have fun! Can you make me a second pole then? So we can fish together?"

Ravus nodded and did just that before taking the pole that Noctis handed him. He stared at it then out at the lake. "And what am I to do?"

"Wait for the fish to bite. Here I'll show you hopefully."

Noctis cast out his line and waited for a bite, keeping an eye on Ravus's line as well. "If you feel a bit way for the line to pull a little, then pull up on your pole and start trying to reel it in."

The two sat there for a while until Noctis got the first bite. He waited until the right time and then proceeded to reel it in. He made sure to tell Ravus what he was doing so he would understand what to do if he got any bites on his line.

He chuckled softly when he saw the surprise on Ravus's face when he did in fact get a bit. He nearly dropped the pole when he saw the fish and Noctis wished he had his phone to take a picture. Maybe that would have to be something he would ask Ravus for later.

By the end of it, the sun had set in the limbo realm and Noctis had caught and released several great fish sizes. Ravus had even caught a few smaller fish. Overall it was a fun time and now Noctis could sit and relax, watching the sunset.

"So, I won't get hungry or tired here? Cause it's just my soul or whatever?"

"Correct. You can eat and sleep as you please, but you will never actually need it."

"Damn, I love sleep," Noctis laughed.

"Oh? Is that so?"

Noctis looked at him, trying not to laugh. "Guess you don't sleep either?"

Ravus shook his head. "Never have had a need."

"Well I guess today is a day of trying," Noctis said as he leaned against Ravus. He closed his eyes and thought about trying to get a little sleep. He started to drift off as he started to imagine what he could teach Ravus next. He figured it would be fun to try, plus it was nice to have a friend while he was stuck here in limbo. It wasn't going to be so bad after all.

Though he had a small thought of what would happen when he would eventually wake up, he put that aside to enjoy his time right then and there.

I plan to make more to this story one day, either as a separate story or adding on to this. But I will make a happy ending!
