Chapter one

The wizarding world was finally moving on after the war with Voldemort. There were many changes being brought in, in the hope they could prevent going through anything like what they had been through. The ministry had most of the changes as they did not want dark wizards working inside ministry. Since the majority of the people who sat on the Wizengamot were now in Azkaban for being death eaters and they were the ones who brought in new laws or got rid of laws they didn't like. Now the law was passed that all employee's had to be questioned by aurors using veritaserum.

Apart from what was happening in the ministry, there were many marriages happening and lots of babies being born. Now everyone knew it was safe, many wanted to start having families.

Harry Potter, the saviour of the wizarding world was planning his marriage to his long time girlfriend, Ginny Weasley. Many of the hero's of the war were also planning their weddings. Most were going to be held right after all the hero's finished their last year at Hogwarts.

Kingsley Shacklebolt was the interim Minister for Magic but when it was put to a vote, he had been named Minister for Magic. He was behind most of the changes that were needed. One thing he had to get used to was how much paperwork he had. Even though he did a lot when working as an auror, it was nothing compared to how much he had as minister especially how he was trying to make their world better for everyone and not just pure-bloods.

Kingsley looked up from his paperwork when someone knocked on the door, 'Come in.'

'Sorry to disturb you Minister, but Mr Conrad said he needs to speak with you. He said that's it's urgent.'

'Who is Mr Conrad?'

'He's the head of the department of magical births, deaths, marriages and contracts.'

Kingsley sighed, 'Very well, send him in,' he put down his quill, which he did often when he was disturbed. He knew being the minister would take a lot of his time, but he was finding himself swamped with work and a lot of interruptions.

'Thank you for seeing me Minister.'

'It's fine. Tell me what's so urgent?'

'I recently received notification of an impending marriage between two young people. As I was ready to file the paperwork, I was notified that one of the people named had a magical contract. I found it and also realise this contract was unbreakable.'

'I don't understand, what type of contract and who made it?'

'The contract was signed by Charlus Potter and James Potter, for Harry Potter. It's a betrothal contract Minister. I just received the paperwork for Harry Potter's marriage to Ginny Weasley, but that's not who's name is on the contract.'

'Who's name is it and who signed for the woman?'

'The name is Megan Jones. Her father, Graham Jones and her grandfather, Winston Jones signed. It was signed on the same day, the day the youngest turned one, which was on Harry Potter's first birthday.'

'Show me,' Kingsley held out his hand, then he began to read, 'Damn, it really is unbreakable.'

'Unless one of them dies, it even covers anyone that tries to prevent this marriage or tries to keep them apart. The reason I brought this to you instead of contacting the two the contract involves as I know you are friends with Harry Potter and I know his parent's died not long after he turned one. I doubt he, nor would anyone know about this. I am unsure of Miss Jones.'

'I will speak with Hestia Jones, they might be related, I'm just not sure if they are or not. I will also speak with Harry. Leave the contract with me so I can show them. But I don't want anyone to know about this. I need to get all the facts before I can speak to them.'

'I will keep this to myself sir.'

Kingsley waited until the man left before he sighed again, 'Why would James Potter bind his son to someone? There has only been a few magical betrothal contracts in the last one hundred years and those were mainly those pure-bloods that wanted to keep their line pure. I wonder if Lily Potter knew, she was a muggleborn and most muggleborns were against these types of magical contracts.' He knew there was nothing he or anyone can do to prevent this, but it did make him very curious.

Kingsley used his office mirror to speak with his secretary, 'I need you to send for Hestia Jones, please.'

'Yes, Minister.'

Kingsley went over the contract more thoroughly. It was only twenty minutes when his secretary was showing Hestia into his office.

'Hestia, are you related to Megan Jones?'

'Yes sir, we're third cousins, once removed, or something like that. I could never understand how all that works,' Hestia's brow furrowed in confusion wondering why the minister was asking about Megan.

'Did you know her father and grandfather?'

'I saw them at family gatherings, like weddings or funerals, but we weren't close. I went to both their funerals. Why?'

Kingsley picked up the contract, 'Graham and Winston Jones signed a magical and unbreakable betrothal contract for Megan. She was almost two years old when this was signed.'

'That would have been around the time Winston died. I know Megan was only a toddler, but I don't remember how old she was. Her father died the year you-know-who returned.'

'Is her mother alive?'

'No, she died during the first war with…him.'

'I'm trying to figure out if she was told. From what I know of the other person named, he doesn't even know Megan, nor would he know about this. He probably doesn't know these types of contracts exist.'

'Who is she supposed to marry?'

'I can't say just yet. I need to speak with the two involved. Just know that the man Megan has to marry is a good man Hestia.'

'Good, I was worried. It was normally those old pure-blood families that had these contracts and they all supported you-know-who.'

'This man is fully light, you don't have to worry. I happen to be good friends with him as well. Do you see Megan at all?'

'We saw each other at Hogwarts after the fighting, spoke for a while before she left. I haven't seen her since.'

'I know you're related to Gwenog Jones, is Megan related to her?'

'Yes, Gwenog is Megan's first cousin.'

'Alright, I'll let you know after I've spoken to them. Thanks for the information.'

'No problem, Minister.'

When Hestia left, Kingsley wrote three letters, one to Megan Jones asking her to come to his office the following day, at eleven in the morning. If she can't make it, then to name a time for the following day. He also wrote to Minerva to explain how he was writing to Harry and needed to see him in his office the following day, at ten thirty. He would send Harry's letter to Minerva as well that way no one would ask questions. Even if Megan couldn't make it, Kingsley still needed to tell Harry about this. He was sure the young man had no idea things like marriage or betrothal contracts existed. They might not be used as much anymore, but they were still legal as long as they were signed by the heads of the family, which is this case, the contract was.

Minerva read the letter from the minister and it had her confused. It was unusual for any student to leave school unless it was the holidays, or a family member died. Harry Potter had no family, apart from those muggles and she knew Harry would not care if anything happened to them. So she was unsure why the minister needed to see Harry.

Harry and Ginny were sitting with Hermione, Ron and Neville, going over the plans for the wedding. They had four months left and figured with tests coming up, they had to get these plans done, in between studying. When they wanted a break from studying, they worked on the wedding plans.

'Harry, I was asked to give you this.'

'Thanks Dennis,' Harry took the parchment and read, 'McGonagall wants to see me straight away.'

'Now, we're trying to get all these plans done,' Ginny said in a huff.

'It's not like I can say no to the headmistress Gin. I'll be back as soon as I talk to her. I'll try not to be too long.'

Harry left Gryffindor tower and headed up to the McGonagall's office. There were no gargoyle's so Harry just ran up the stairs and knocked on the door.

'Come in Potter.'

Harry stepped into the office, closing the door behind him, 'You wanted to see me Professor?'

'Yes, I received a letter from the minister and he sent one for you.' She held out the parchment.

Harry opened the letter and began to read, 'Kingsley wants to see me in his office tomorrow, but he doesn't say why.'

'No, he did not. So come here at twenty past ten and I will allow you to use my floo to get to the ministry.'

'Um, okay. Is that all Professor?'

'Yes, you can go Potter.'

Harry hurried back to Gryffindor tower and back to his girlfriend and friends.

'What did McGonagall want?' Ginny asked.

'Kingsley wants to see me tomorrow, I have to go to the ministry.'

'Why?' Hermione asked.

'No idea, his letter didn't say.' Harry showed Ginny the letter before Hermione read it.

'Well, we can't do anything about that so we might as well keep working on these plans.'

'As long as it stays casual, I don't like formal things,' Harry said with a sigh.

'The only formal part is the actual ceremony and having the wedding pictures done. Ron and Hermione are going to make a small speech each and I think dad will as well, but that's all. I'm the only girl in seven generations of Weasley's, I know dad will want to say something.'

Harry sighed again, 'Alright, then it's just a party. No sitting away from everyone and I know want it to be just us dancing.'

'We know Harry, we've already worked it out that we'll sit with our friends and all of us will get up to dance the first dance with you and Ginny,' Hermione said.

'And your mother knows that we're all adults and we can have a drink if we want one,' Harry said.

'Yes, I spoke with dad first, then we spoke to mum about that. She was more upset that the rest of the family weren't invited.'

'I explained that though. If your extended family was invited, which I don't know, then our friends couldn't come. This is our wedding, not your mother's, so I want our friends there.'

'We know Harry. She only agreed when you threatened to have a private ceremony without anyone being invited, including her and it wouldn't be at the Burrow. She knew you couldn't be talked around so she had not choice but agree. Now let's just get back to this then we can concentrate on our studies. I also have more practice since the scouts will be turning up over the next few games.'

Harry nodded, they began to go over the plans again. Harry had been surprised with how much preparation goes into a wedding, even one that wasn't formal, there was still a lot to organise. They originally planned to have a longer engagement, but they realised if Ginny did get picked up for one of the quidditch teams, trying to get married and have a honeymoon would end up impossible. It might of ended up delayed. Harry still believed they should wait for at least another year or two but with how old fashioned Molly Weasley was, trying to get some private time with Ginny had been impossible.
