Sam brushed another tear from her cheek. She was having another depressive episode about her life in general. Sure, Sam was grateful for the small things in her life, such as having great parents, reliable friends, a roof over her head, an education, a job, but there seemed to always be one element that was missing: a life companion.

Well, not entirely missing. Sam was lucky enough to date eligible bachelors here and there, but they rarely ever blossomed into a serious relationship. The last inkling of a serious companion was with that scumbag, James. She was never a true woman in his life, only a toy to play with to gain access to the invisibility formula that was allegedly made by James' dad, the scientist in the military. The man and James had absolutely no biological connection. It would seem odd from the very beginning that an American military scientist would have a son with an English accent, and one who claimed to be a foreign exchange student.

The first time Sam ever fell in love, was with a man named Mac Smit. He was supposedly the new leader of WOOHP, right after Jerry 'retired'. After a couple of incidents where Sam, Clover, and Alex slipped from death's fingers, it didn't take long to figure out that Mac Smit was really a notorious criminal named Tim Scam. Of course, Sam immediately called the crush quits, as she wasn't about to associate herself to someone who is okay with hurting innocent people.

Yet, Sam could not seem to get over Tim Scam. Nearly every date afterwards had Tim's features: tan skin, green/blue eyes, tall height, strong body, brown hair, and high intelligence. The biggest con? None of them were the Tim Scam. She constantly found herself yearning for his presence. Yearning for him to be free like a bird.

Sam knew that if she chose Tim right now, it could negatively impact her job, and her relationship with family and friends. Majority would probably not see past the fact Tim possessed a lengthy criminal record. Sam sighed. She knew that crime doesn't always define a person. There was a possibility that he/she was misunderstood, or perhaps framed for a crime. There was a chance Tim Scam was in the unfortunate position of being framed for a crime. "How can I approach Jerry to further investigate Scam?" Sam thought. Her heart sank at the realization that Jerry would turn down that suggestion. From the perspective of a crime defeating organization, Jerry thinks of Scam as a constant threat, especially since he had an employee record at WOOHP. What Sam finds strange, and a tad bit illogical, is that if Scam really did commit the crime he was fired and imprisoned for, then what is with the constant escape from jail and the strong revenge against WOOHP? Wouldn't he, or any other criminal, just stay put because they were guilty without a reasonable doubt? Sam was sure something else fishy was involved when Scam was convicted. He wouldn't be escaping from prison if he had a truly guilty conscience, one that would make him stay.

Then, there was the possibility that Scam could be a sociopath, and that breaking the law was nothing to him. As long Scam was able to break free, attempt at his revenge against WOOHP, and cause some form of chaos, nothing else mattered.

Sam slowly got ready for bed. There was no point in trying to cheer herself up. She couldn't understand why her fate was lined up in such a fashion. Why she just had to be in love with a criminal (or an individual who might be wrongly labeled as such). Nothing made sense.

Tears flowed freely from her eyes. The jealousy for Clover and Alex, who didn't have to constantly think about choosing between right and wrong. The pain Sam felt at the possibility of never finding a life companion. The frustration of either choosing Tim Scam himself, or another guy who had the features but living with the yearning of wanting the original. Sam cried until her heart felt significantly lighter. Her pillow was soaked with salty tears to the point of being switched out for another one. She got up out of bed to blow her nose in the bathroom and wash off the tear stains.

No matter how many scenarios, possibilities, theories, proposals Sam brainstormed, they all led back to one question:

"Why me?"
